Message Body

Original plan of operation against NMX assets in southern charted region was received at mission briefing on the date of XX of XX, YE34. Original plan acknowledged, and evaluated. Due to highprobability of complications proposed by the original plan, a revised version has been drafted at request of Shosho Ketsurui Hanako. Revised operation plans are enclosed.

Document: Proposed Operation Revision

1. Assets

A) A key focus of the revised operation is a change of assets to be utilized for the operation. Currently, the operation calls for the use of a single standard First Expeditionary Fleet squadron, with a small infantry payload aboard, as well as a stand-by portion of strategic assets from the First Expeditionary Fleet which would be called upon once the squadron has conducted an initial assault and scouting run. While seemingly sound, this arrangement is not advised. Plumeria are ill suited as troop transports, main weapon arrays on Plumeria-class ships have excessively pronounced energy signatures, thus removing the stealth aspect from the scout-and-hit tactic, and the Plumeria-Class is frankly too valuable to burn away on a possible suicide mission, most especially when entrusted with the life of a Shosho.

B) Revision of the operation would call for the following assets, based upon astronomical data and what little intelligence has been gathered.

336 (28 Squadrons) V9 'Nodachi' Assault Fighter
672 (56 Squadrons) V6C 'Hayabusa' Starfighter
84 (7 Squadrons) V7 'Ginga'
14 Ke-T8-1b Kuma Science Variant (With Ke-T8-P3102)
YSS Kikyô
YC-28
2nd and 3rd First Expeditionary Fleet Squadrons
28 Third Standard Fleet Ayame-Class*
168 Third Standard Fleet Irim-Class* **
28 Legion II C11 Sydney-Class Troop Carriers

* Additional units possibly recommended, in the range of double the original suggested quantity, however current values are indicated for the purpose of reduced losses in the event of mission failure.

** In the event of additional units being available, would recommend allocation of four standard squadrons of Irim-Class ships to Phase Four of operations.

C) Explanation of the assets involved is as follows.

V9 'Nodachi' - Bomber and Fighter Escort in initial raid.
V6C 'Hayabusa' – Light-armored target neutralization in initial raid
V7 'Ginga' – Heavy-armored target neutralization in initial raid
Ke-T8-1b Kuma Science Variant – Scouting sensor sweeps in initial raid
YSS Kikyo – Ferry for initial raiding assets
YC-28 - Assisting ferry for initial raiding assets, support for 2nd Squadron raiding group.
2nd and 3rd First Expeditionary Fleet Squadrons – Second wave raiding group, high-threat asset neutralization
Third Standard Fleet Assets – Planetary bombardment/disposal, Station bombardment, Power Armor troop delivery
C11Sydney-Class – Troop delivery for planetary raids

2) Operational Phases

1. Phase One

Due to the NMX having continued engagements with First Expeditionary Fleet assets in the area of the Samurai Sector, it would be inadvisable to advance from the Samurai Sector for the purpose of an assault, due to this, a neutral staging area would be required. Due to the ideal proximity and position, the Tarkarae system would serve as an ideal staging point for the requested assets. Once gathered, the second phase of the operation would begin.

2. Phase Two

V9 'Nodachi' Assault Fighter squadrons, V7 'Ginga' squadrons, V6C 'Hayabusa' squadrons, Ke-T8-1b Kuma units, YC-28 and YSS Kikyo would be assigned the task of the initial scouting run. YSS Kikyo and YC-28 would ferry the small craft within a CDD bubble into the eastern-most portion of the nebula to the north-west of the target stellar cluster. V9, V6C, V7, and Ke-T8-1b units would move beyond the virtual-collision perimeter of the nebula. Once beyond the collision range, fighters would pair-off, with two V6C to each V9. Fighters would pair with V7 units, with four V9 and eight V6C to cover each V7. Once in formation, V7, V6C, Ke-T8-1b, and V9 units will proceed to the seven systems within the target stellar cluster. Twelve V7 bombers will fold to each system, with their fighter escorts, V9 units will serve to ferry their V6C partners through hyperfold. Two Ke-T8-1b units would fold to each system as well.

3. Phase Three

Upon arrival in target systems, V9, V7, and V6C units would divide themselves between available planetary targets, while Ke-T8-1b units would conduct sensor sweeps of the target systems. Ke-T8-1b units will serve as spotters, providing target data to the fighter and bomber groups, placing priority on neutralization of assets which would interfere with fleet mobility, as well as neutralizing defense platforms which would pose a threat to gunship-category assets. In the event of presence of enemy combat spacecraft, priority targets would be designated as ships which would be beyond the capabilities of a gunship to easily deal with, such targets would be engaged, with primary weapon systems set as a priority target to be neutralized, and not the ship as a whole. Once sensor sweeps of the target systems have been completed, as well as priority target neutralization, the V9, V7, V6C, and Ke-T8-1b units will move back to the YSS Kikyo for pick-up and egress back to Tarkarae system. En route to the YSS Kikyo, Ke-T8-1b units will signal the YSS Kikyo, which would then relay a message to the assets at the Tarkarae system, at which time, the fourth phase of the operation would begin so long as it is determined that the target systems would be able to be breached by the assets allocated to the operation.

4. Phase Four

This phase of the revised operation will most closely resemble the originally proposed operation. At this phase of the operation, the two First Expeditionary Fleet squadrons requested would move in on the target stellar cluster. 2nd Squadron plus YC-28 would move in from the northern route into the stellar cluster, while the 3rd Squadron would move in through the passage to the west of the stellar cluster. Squadron assets will proceed to priority target star systems based upon data acquired from the third phase of the operation. Priority would be placed upon systems with defensive assets which would pose an immediate threat to cruiser-type assets, as well as neutralization of planetary defense batteries, and the destruction/disabling of transport craft which may be in the process of escaping the stellar cluster. Once engagement has taken place between 2nd and 3rd Squadron assets and target assets, phase five of the operation would begin.

5. Phase Five

The fifth phase of the operation would involve 3rd Standard Fleet assets which would be on loan for the operation. At this phase of the operation, the Irim-Class and Ayame-Class ships would move against the target stellar cluster, hitting systems which have already been engaged by the fourth phase operation. Upon arrival, Ayame-Class and Irim-Class assets would engage targets which were simply too large or too heavily armored for the Plumeria-Class ships to deal with during the fourth phase of operations. If necessary, the Ayame-Class assets would be able to move chunks of planetary bodies which contain high-value enemy assets or hardened targets into the star of a given system. Upon engagement with stationary or planetary targets, the Ayame-Class assets will deploy power armor payloads to assist in target bombardment. During this phase, targets designated as assets which would be ideally captured would be ignored during the bombardment, and would be marked as targets for the sixth phase of the operation.

6. Phase Six

At this phase of the operation, in theory, most enemy assets which would pose a threat to transport craft would be neutralized. Due to the expected neutralization of high-threat assets, a proper ground raid would be made possible. At this phase, twenty-eight C11Sydney-Class ships will move to designated priority targets which are to be captured, ideally, with four ships to each system of the stellar cluster. During this phase, the C11 units will deploy infantry assets on stations, planetary bodies, high-value starships, and other targets ideal for infantry assault. While infantry operations take place, the assets on loan from the 3rd Fleet, and the 2nd and 3rd First Expeditionary Fleet assets will provide cover as well as orbital strike support to the infantry assets which would be deployed.

7. Phase Seven

At this phase, ideally, targets which were designated to be captured would be occupied by infantry and would either be held for fortification, or, would be moved by Ayame-Class assets through the use of gravitic beam towing, or, by transposition array. If NMX assets provide continued resistance, operational assets will egress back to the Samurai Sector. However, at this phase, if it is deemed possible, the operational assets may loiter until appropriate assets can be dispatched for a long-term occupation and mop-up operation.

3) Expected Result

With the proposed operation, it is estimated that regardless of what assets the NMX would have available in the target stellar cluster, the operation would be able to at the very least be able to disrupt NMX assets in the area, at the most, the operation would result in a crippling of NMX activity in the area, as well as a possible means of creating a foot-hold for a long-term engagement in the area. However, in the event of the discovery of NMX assets beyond the capability of the operation to engage, the loss of assets to the enemy would be minimal, confined to the loss of fighter-sized craft.
