KFY W2904 Subspace-Encased Particle Cannon
The Type-29 Fleet Plan called to make modern Star Army fleets smaller and placed a large emphasis on the vessels in the Strategic Pool for fleet operations. However, the ship designs that makes part of the Strategic Pool are smaller hulls (from YE 27 and up) that cannot mount as much weaponry as older vessels such as the Arashi-class escort and the Irim-class gunship.
Salvaged Subspace-Encased Positron Tunneling Cannons from Sfrarabla Mishhuvurthyar Xhrafuklurp (SMX) vessels provided one mean of solving that problem. The weapons had a good range, an excellent damage output, were not ammunition dependant and even had respectable firing rates - exceeding in many respect the Star Army of Yamatai's positron railguns, AS-5 torpedoes, variable weapon pods and projected aether beams while still being of manageable size.
Reverse engineering the weapon yielded the W2904 particle cannon, meant to be mounted on ships that couldn't support antimatter turrets. Like it's Mishhuvurthyar-designed predecessor, the weapon has astounding shield and armor piercing properties while also compromising the target's power grid from the backlash of positive energy released on impact.
The cannons are typically mounted on turrets with a gyroscopic mount to offer optimal tracking and firing arcs.
Primary Purpose:
Anti-Starship
Secondary Purpose:
Assault
Damage:
Extremely Heavy; pierces through distortion and repulsion shielding, ignores force and scalar fields and easily breaches through zesuaium and xinthium.
Range:
1 AU
Rate of Fire:
Once per second.
Payload:
Effectively unlimited, so long as the ship provides power.
As I was designing the Kochou-class Long-Range Escort, it came to my notice that a smaller hull would never be able to hold as much weaponry as the Kochou's predecessor, the Arashi. The Arashi-class escort carries an extremely large amount of weaponry and LAMIAs that rival even the Irim gunship, so, if a new escort ship design was to be given consideration, it needed to have the weaponry that could rival it's predecessor.
I took the 'less weapons, higher firing rate' route and, on Wes' suggestion, planned to base the Kochou's main anti-starship weaponry aside from it's W2901 main gun on Mishhu weaponry. This has actually already been implemented with the Yui 5 scout destroyer, but it didn't seem widely used.
