Just noting that this is my first character and any suggestions on ways to improve on it would be appreciated, thanks.

Until its finalized it will keep getting updated so I will say what revision it is on the next line

Revision 7

Starting rank should be "Santô Hei". You do not have sufficient board rank nor experience in the Star Army Roleplay to warrant for more (actually, starting at the bottom would likely be better for you).

I find the character's personality to be somewhat uneven with his career. Remember how soldiers have to go through grueling training and discipline before being able to qualify for frontline duty.

Also, I must say that I dislike the history. An amnesiac found in a drifting ship is extremely cliche - it's very 'been there, done that'. I recommend you actually try to flesh him out as a person and aim for something more ordinary and humble for a background. Humble beginnings make for better, more worthwhile developments later. Flesh out his background, tell us how he grew up and how he'd have joined the Star Army.

I very much doubt he'd have served in the army for seven years and only got to sergeant - or more likely 3rd class soldier. Since when you begin you should essentially be playing a rookie just out of training. You may be talented in your field of expertise, but more modest skillsets are more advantageous to you as a player because theyallow you to make beginner's mistakes with more credibility.

And let's face it... you are going to make mistakes. Toning it down is really for your own benefit.

bagel

Ya, I was thinking that the history was kinda sterotypical :P
The new ones so-so, makes more sense and its strechable.

For the rank, I had no idea what to put so I just wrote sergant so ya.
See what you meant by conflicting personality traits so I changed them and the total years around to make a little more sense.

Once again, any more suggestions would be appreciated <('.'<)

Its a good skeleton, but it feels like just that - a skeleton.

More detail, I think, could make this far more interesting - especially in the realm of appearance and personality. The devil is in the details.

Or decals.

Or meatballs.

Whatever.

Just my suggestion. ^.^

Make him younger. Like Kotori said, he should be a kid fresh out of training, most likely in his late teens or early 20s.

And special accomplishments such as "saving another soldier's life" have to be earned through roleplaying. :)

Technology Operation: Takuma has graduated from a tech school and is can operate the operating systems Kessaku OS, Cosain OS, and Linux.

While I'm pretty sure the concept of open source software will survive into SARP's time period, no one would know about Linux by then. Heck, no one would know about America by then. :p

If Cosain OS is a real OS, then the same thing applies.

Ya, I just threw that in as a joke, I can take it out if its needed. And cosain is a made up word based of random labels being read off things on my desk. That I can remove too, unless I'd be allowed to have a personal computer running that operating system.

I could find an ancient computer floating in space that still runs windows 95 XD. Maybe thats why they crashed...

Please do remove them then. :)

You can say that he's familiar with "alternative" OSes. That would be a good skill to have if he ever needs to operate a Nepleslian or Elysian computer.

I have a small request unrelated to your character.

Is it possible for you to go in your profile and change your name? You're kinda hard to refer to with a name that's more like a phrase (through truncated).

I don't care if you call yourself 'roboduck' or 'duckman', but having a proper noun to represent you would be a small, though not inconsiderable, asset for you.

oh sorry, didn't think it would be a problem I'll go ahead and do that.

Ok, it is an actual name now. Got it by flipping open a book and seeing the first word I saw XD

Thank you. the attention is appreciated ^_^;

Sorry to have derailed the comments on your character.

In the regard of his fighting style, can you explain what is Shorin-Ryu Shorin-Kan please?

<History>
In ancient times, the Satsuma clan of southern mainland Japan invaded Okinawa. The Okinawans bitterness to the new Japanese rule inspired the widespread use of To De, a fighting style learned from the chinese. Three styles - Shuri-Te, Naha-Te, and Tomarie-Te, were created. Later, after it was no longer used as survival techniques, it was known as karate (empty hand), which became now more of a sport then survival. Shorin-Ryu Karate developed from the Shuri-Te Lineage. It is known for its short stances and fast hand movements. Shorin-Ryu translates to "The Way of the Shaolin", originating from one of the first temples to train its people in the ways of To De, or karate.
</History>

Probably a little too much information, but hey, its what you asked.
Shorin-Kan is the version of Shorin-Ryu.

Mathematics: After graduating from a tech school, Takuma has built up a mathematics skill up to anything needed to fix a computer or malfunctioning power armor.

Not to be picky, but you'd need another slot to be able to fix computers and power armors, and you don't have any slots left. :p

How about, he knows enough mathematics for his other skills: first aid, shuttle pilot, demolitions.

Otherwise, this is pretty much ready for approval. Please start thinking about which plotship you want to join. :)

Hmm... is there a way I could combined the medical and science with the mathematics, because I would like to still be able to fix computers and power armors. That or could I combine the Technological Operations with the Mathematics. Tech and Operations + mathematics would make sense.

Would this work as a combination?

Technology and Starship Operations:
Takuma has graduated from a tech school and can use the operating systems Kessaku OS, as well as many foreign operating systems, for when he is behind enemy lines. He also used to be a shuttle pilot and knows how to navigate and fly any small starships.

If not, any combination or removal suggestions would be appreciated. I want to keep demolitions though, so I'd rather not remove that.

Better yet, any place I could toss in fixing computers and power armors that would make sense? Pretty much I want to add fixing computer and PAs without removing demolitions.

EDIT: Ok, I changed the skills around a little, I'm not sure if I did something wrong by the combination I did, but its plausible.

EDIT 2: Ok, I just realized that with the other skills I placed, the mathematics one seems kinda useless. If I separate technology and starship operations again and remove mathematics, is there anything wrong with that? Because my mathematics just says what repair and maintenance says now.

Re: Takuma

Nope. Sorry. Mathematics is required, since it's a separate skill set (though one laden with theoretical knowledge rather than applicable knowledge.) Think of it as a prerequiste skill to be a SAoY soldier.

The way I see it, you're trying to cram in 8 skills into 7 slots:

Communication: required skill
Fighting: required skill
Tech Ops: required skill (how to use a computer)
Math: required skill (the theory behind some of the other skills)
Starship Ops: (how to pilot a shuttle/starship)
Medical: (first aid)
Maintenance and Repair: (fixing stuff)
Demolitions: (blowing stuff up)

You can't have your cake and eat it too though. Please try to cut one of the last 4 skills. :)

PS: If/When I suddently disappear come Monday, one of the other GMs will (hopefully) assist you. :D

Wait, medicals not required? In that case I have an easy fix XD I was under the assumption that I only had 3 choice skills, but now that I know medicals not required, ill fix it right now.

There, that should work.

Yep. Medical skills are required for science officers and medics only.

We don't normally approve bios with starting ranks greater than Santo Hei, but since you worked hard on this, I'll make an exception. He probably would've been promoted to Joto Hei after his first "real" mission anyway.

Character approved!

You'll want to choose a plotship next. Feel free to PM the GMs to ask them about their ships.
