Re: Tech Challenge: Breaching Pod
Your pod would need to be extremely hard in order to survive the impact, let alone the concussive force involved during said impact could snap spines, break bones and liquefy internal organs or rupture them. :| If your pod isn't made of comparatively strong material, it'd be like a lead round striking a titanium plate. Since even if you 'bore' into the hull, the sides of the pod is scraping along the rigid edges of the hull, which would also rip it open, and decompress you into space. Plus, depending on the hole made while you bore into the hull, you're still going to have a force of impact to widen it enough to actually fit through.
Even then, along the outer edges of the whole, and pod, you got a hole. "Adding a new airlock" isn't as simple as it sounds either. Since the pod would be incredibly unstable during you attempting it, as well with ship movements you're pretty much looking at a split second window, and I am being generous on the time scale given the erratic and speedy movements of starships in space. Even if you form said airlock, nothing is stopping it from being ripped off as soon as the ship performs a turn, accelerates, or stops.
