TECH CHALLENGE: 250,000 KS to the first PC to design a breaching pod for Yamatai. Think of a shuttlecraft that cuts through enemy ship hulls and basically add a new airlock to that ship. It should have a docking port for shuttles, as well as be able to carry passengers for the first strike.

Re: Tech Challenge: Breaching Pod

*wrinkles nose* Sounds too much like Mishhuvurthyar approach to me.

Wes, with power armors able to fly through hull breaches and teleport systems that can allow entry on a shieldless ship... we really need this?

Re: Tech Challenge: Breaching Pod

I'm with Fredley on this one... Maybe for something like the Neps, but not so much the Yams...

That said, one could just go the Games Workshop approach and send in a drill torpedo with peeps inside. Or just make it hallow on the inside as a tunnel of sorts.

You can stop talking about Nepleslia like you actually know anything, now.

Re: Tech Challenge: Breaching Pod

Teleportation is not always reliable. I still want a breaching pod.

Re: Tech Challenge: Breaching Pod

I wasn't making a complaint. I was merely expressing doubt as to that approach for Yamatai's military... but I remember Wes wanting to 'put back the army in Star Army' and I figure this might be part of the changes he'd like to have.

Re: Tech Challenge: Breaching Pod

You have Powered Armors, namely the Mindy with a MDR 5 'Sword' forearm weapon mode, which translates to SDR1. Personally, I'd love to see powered armors strapped to the hulls, cutting through them, and then hopping into the breaches then a pod. You have a pod, your troops would be technically without a PA, or have basic 'battle armor' (which there is nothing I can spot on the wiki). You do it via PA, you're pretty much massacring the crew instead of wasting lives in terms of just sending in infantry since most ships now has anti-personnel weaponry built into them which would mow down infantry.

EDIT: Plus, a pod is a bigger target over a Powered Armor. :?

Re: Tech Challenge: Breaching Pod

In another RP I do, we make heavy use of boarding pods that are fired from a railgun like device into an enemie's hull, moving too quickly to be taken down by most kinds of weapons fire. it essentially uses the boarding pod as a specific type of shell as opposed to some sort of warhead.

Would totaly suck if you were in said breeching pod and it misses the target. God knows when the battle will end and they retreive you, and I dont think it'll be that easy to retreive something travelling at a fraction of the speed of light. I suggest putting NWISes in said pod.

Re: Tech Challenge: Breaching Pod

Your pod would need to be extremely hard in order to survive the impact, let alone the concussive force involved during said impact could snap spines, break bones and liquefy internal organs or rupture them. :| If your pod isn't made of comparatively strong material, it'd be like a lead round striking a titanium plate. Since even if you 'bore' into the hull, the sides of the pod is scraping along the rigid edges of the hull, which would also rip it open, and decompress you into space. Plus, depending on the hole made while you bore into the hull, you're still going to have a force of impact to widen it enough to actually fit through.

Even then, along the outer edges of the whole, and pod, you got a hole. "Adding a new airlock" isn't as simple as it sounds either. Since the pod would be incredibly unstable during you attempting it, as well with ship movements you're pretty much looking at a split second window, and I am being generous on the time scale given the erratic and speedy movements of starships in space. Even if you form said airlock, nothing is stopping it from being ripped off as soon as the ship performs a turn, accelerates, or stops.

Tech Challenge:

150,000 KS for a claymore-style mine (for Yamatai or Yamatai and Nepleslia)!

This is still open too.

I am currently working on the Breaching pod idea. I do have one question, Can Corporations win the prize, or does it have to be a PC?

I'm willing to help you on the breach pod idea, Kai. I've done a good amount of contemplation on that subject myself... :?

That and I have no clue what I'd do with all that KS if I came up with it on my own. (buy an AIR2-Lancer?)

...and I wonder where this is from >.>

Well I still have to talk to Wes, but I guess I can volunteer for the aquatic weapons.

Please do notice the reactor thing on the tech challenges board though, though I been trying to get a plausible reactor for the Nimiss for a long while now...
