Hello, everyone! @Zack and @paladinrpg have already been discussing this with me, and I guess I ought to ask for some broader opinions and advice.
The Joint Technology Expedition is my idea for an NPC I'ee fleet trawling through alien territories in a quasi-legal fashion, seeking to procure new technologies for the I'ee in whatever way they see fit.
Since Sally and Yui, my two lil' ambassadors, have been tied quite firmly to their plots, coupled with my reluctance to go creating a billion pairs of wasps to swarm the universe with naivete.
At the helm of this little fleet would be two opposing characters: Sammy, the Ee'ith moral compass for the expedition, and 'Gut-stripe', a ruthless Thi-thi captain who has grown tired of the I'ee's inferiority in battle against the NMX scouting parties.

The main intent behind this NPC fleet of mine is to have a plot element that can become embroiled in action without being tied to it for longer than it needs to be.
While Zack has already expressed interest in having the I'ee involved with Uso in some way, I want to make sure that such an idea would be viable for its intended purpose. I also worry that it might get old fairly quickly, and not generate enough interest and enthusiasm to justify its existence.
I do have a couple of ways I might salvage the idea if it falls through, mainly involving Gut-stripe, since I quite like her already.
What I'm primarily looking for here is feedback, though. Please tell me what you think of the idea, or ask if you need elaboration of some sort regarding it.
