Does anyone know if having all this extra stuff (the javascript code is actually in the page HTML) at the top of each forum page is going to make Google angry and hurt our search rankings?

I do not think it should it is no different than half the other stuff we have in our forums.

What Nashoba said, plus, it gives a good number more words for Google to hit on, I'd imagine.

Google penalizes for duplicate content and only reads a certain amount of the page before it stops. So I'm worried.

Most of the Factoids are short, and they would rarely duplicate what is in the posts.

I don't think you understand. Robots read the code of the webpage, which means every page on the forum right now has the entire list of SARP factoids near the top whereas we only see one random line from it.

BionicSamurai said:
what search key words are you most concerned about?
Things like sci-fi roleplaying, roleplay forum, etc.

Then we need to find another way to do the factoid without it being in the page.

If we make a PHP page for it, only one line of it will be served with the page.

What if I used the board's notices system to schedule a new tip to appear for every day?

That would be okay. Any chance to have it change a couple of times a day. Like in am one message, afternoon another?
