RP: YSS Anoiktos Verse 1.0: A Dove Amongst Ravens

YSS Anoiktos, Cargo Hold

Machariel blinked as it dawned on him just who he'd offered his hand to. Oh, Lord......actually, I withdraw that; the Heavenly Father, after all, does teach us that there exists no sin in helping those that require it. That, and she is rather attrac...

The Patrician - unaware that a faint blush had crept over his features - shook his head a couple of times (No, one must not have such thoughts...especially of an inferior Caelisolan...) - then snapped his arm up in a crisp salute as he belatedly realized the presence of the ship's Prefectii. Damn it...distractions like this are precisely why the crew should have been composed solely of Archangels!

Mihral picked up her data pad and fluttered her wings before sitting back on the crate she was and started typing away. "Well aside from minor damage to the interior of the ship there's nothing to really speak of...we didn't really reach the limits of the shielding, but we can calibrate it to have that as the 'safe limit' and have the AI start warning you when you approach that. I can run simulations and get theoretical limits, but we shouldn't push the system to it's limits anyway."

Char took a moment to regain her composure, annoyed as she was, the results they had were satisfactory for the moment. She took a breaath before she looked at both Shamshiel and Miharel. She nodded softly towards the two scientists with a deep breath; "Very good then, Since the suit was hardly damaged, and we didn't reach the shields threshold I believe we can call this little test a success...wouldn't you say Lekos... Topazios?" She looked at the two once more before looking at Ambriel. "The situation is under control ma'am, the ship is okay outside of minor asthetic damages that were caused by an electrical discharge... A simple mis-calculation as it normally goes with experiments." She offered a gentle smile to the older captain.

Ambriel took a moment to look around the room and assess the damages of the cargohold. She took a deep, and drawn out breath at the situation explanation before slightly leering towards the two scientists. "As much as I appreciate the hard work, explosions of any kind... which include electrical... are extremely hap-hazardous... Please in future experiments try to avoid any type of explosions...keep that in mind and your apology will be accepted."
Ambriel sighed. "So that being said... Do you believe it is good enough to take down to the planet?"

Cargo Hold

"I would agree the testing was successful" Mihral spoke as she smiled to Char. After looking over the figures she only became more confident in that statement. Once Ambriel spoke the scientist gave a nod. "Yes, we should be able to bring this down to the surface with no problems. We have a small team so adjustments wouldn't take much and we can quickly educate everyone in what not to do with it." She turned her datapad around to show everyone the display with various graphs on it. "Fortunately energy consumption should not increase by even 20% so as long as we don't try to run the batteries dry we shouldn't have to worry. However..." She switched to a different graph. "Processing load drastically increases to handle the switching from passive to active directed protection. It would be best to have some of the AI assist systems run on a more processor friendly setting...but I don't really know a whole lot about that sort of thing."

Machariel sighed, staaaaring at Mihral; the former's expression was equivalent to that of someone who'd just witnessed a Caelisolan sprout an extra set of wings or transform into a Mishuvurthyar. Processing load? Active directed protection? Processor-friendly? .....what the Hell is that Plebeian speaking of? "Would thou please translate that into something understandable by the rest of us?"

Char looked at Machariel and couldn't help but have a smirk on her face. "I rather perfectly understood what she said... perhaps you should pick up a book?" She joked with him before she looked back at Mihral. "Alright; I'll prepare us for launch and you two handle the preparations for the MCAS, if that is alright with our captain." She looked at Ambriel now, awaiting her dismissal.

Ambriel listened to what Mihral said about the AI systems and thought about it for a moment. "Alright; I'll approve the AI systems usage for the purpose of final testing if one of you would watch over it." She nodded towards the scientists and Char before she took a breath. "Dismissed for the time being."

Shamshiel fluttered her wings feathers once, shaking off some rather uncomfortable static electricity that seemed to have remained from her previous gaffe, while recapturing that rather sure of herself shine in her green eyes as she shot Machariel a quick look when he voiced his confusion. She was sure she could see the remnant of a blush that had been on his cheeks before... hmm, was it from the touch? Still, seeing the Patrician at a loss was clearly something she had to rectify. Even if she was rather haughty for a lower classed Elysian, she didn't want to see such a gallant angel be embarrassed either. "My lord, the thrust of what Mihral is saying is: the computer will do it for you. It's just very power hungry at the moment. But we can fix that." The fiery headed scientist tilted her head to the side, some of the hairs still a bit frizzy from the discharge making her look a bit mad, but at least she wasn't using jargon over his head. "Is that explanation more to your satisfaction?"

Bowing slightly to Ambriel, the Anoiktos' resident engineer that had lost some face before seemed determined to get it back."Prefectii, I would like to atone and take the honor of observing this final phase of shield testing... to prove to you I shan't be so careless again."

Had Charalampos not enjoyed the twin luxuries of being a fellow Archangel and of higher rank, Machariel would have launched into a fiery tirade about "proper respect" and whatnot; with the aforementioned facts in mind, however, he did his best to remain as stoic as possible, painfully aware of the consequences that came from insulting someone of greater authority. Rank and my......personal tastes in literature aside, how dare thou deem me to be as uneducated as some Plebeian - let's see thou try to solve multi-variable integra-

The Semeai's decidedly irritated thoughts came to an abrupt halt as the other egghead in the room - the civilian-clothed (and, to the Archangel's discomfort, extremely attractive) Caelisolan he'd helped earlier - provided a surprisingly helpful answer that, even more surprisingly[/i], was delivered in a polite fashion. That was...not what I'd expected.........

Machariel was about to reply, only for Shamshiel's next request to completely throw him for a loop. In the name of the Lord......are thou insane? A mere Plebeian such as thyself, in addition to wasting the Kleos of making first contact with an unknown race, wouldn't last more then a minute down there! After a pause, taken in a (partially successful) attempt to keep the shock and outrage out of his voice, the eldest of Barachiel Valeria's two children spoke. "Begging the Duplicari's pardon, but would I not be a better choice for the test candidate? With all due respect to Ms. Topazios..." - another pause as he glanced at her, inadvertently locked his hazel eyes with the jade-colored ones of Shamshiel, blushed, and looked back at Char - "...I believe that I'd be far better at piloting the powered armor, especially if something were to malfunction..."

Mihral pulled up a screen on her data pad and walked over to Machariel to show him. It was a pie graph showing the the processing load of the MCAS AI suite under normal load. The plumper than average Elysian getting rather close to show him clearly, their wings almost touching. "This shows the normal amount of processing power dedicated to each system when the suit is in combat. However, this portion of free processing is smaller..." She brought up a separate diagram just showing how much processing the active electrical distribution system needed and overlayed it over the old graph. "...than the space needed for the system. We will have to tune how much power is used by the other systems."

The heavier woman took a few steps back to give Mach his space and then began typing away at her datapad again and then turned to Shamshiel. "I think we can lower the power the targeting systems use, it would take a little longer to aim, but this is an exploration mission not a combat mission anyway." Either she was ignoring Machariel's request to be the next one to test, or she just didn't care who was the next in the suit.

Charalampos looked at Machariel for a moment, interested in what he was saying due to the fact based on what she's seen from the male showed nothing to give her hope that the male would be worth the waste of armor. She crossed her arms softly beneath her hefty bosom for a moment, this made her much more perky than she normally is, and tilted her head a bit.

"Hm..." Was the only thing heard from the red head's vocal cords.

Ambriel, however, being the captain and prefectii; looked at Shamshiel for a moment before looking at Machariel. She took a moment to gather her thoughts before speaking up towards the both of them. "If Semeai Valeria desires to get into the suit to get blasted by electrical currents then by all means; allow him to. Topazios, you can watch over the last bit of testing as Charalampos finishes up the preparations for the landing. Semeai Lekos, you will aid Topazios however she sees fit."

With that, the Captain rubbed her forhead a bit before she and Charalampos depart the cargo area where they were doing their testing.

The other red-head in the room gave a bit of a wry smile, as her words had the desired effect. Shamshiel had never actually intended to step into the armor herself, of course... but rather to make Machariel more willing to offer his services out of a sense of duty and pride. Indeed, he was quite handsome the way he looked at her for that brief moment... the civilian scientist could indeed get used to such attention from the son of a Patriarch. Just why was this lovely specimen such a lowly military rank, though? Surely there was a bigger tale to fill an entire play script that he could fill her in more privately on, when the more technical matters were concluded of course...

Shamshiel nodded her head to the prefectii as she consented to the setup. "So shall it be then." She took a step closer to Machariel as a more playful and confident smile met his passing blush. "Thank you for volunteering, my lord. I assure you that this time should be without incident... the Mnemosyne AI shall be compensating for any irregularities in the current and will shutdown as needed. Beryl, if you would be a dear?"

The mini-neko FAR shook it's holographic green-haired head and nipped up from where it was knocked dazed from the previous discharge, quickly using it's cutting tools and manipulator arm to splice out and rewire the damaged coils on the portable fusion generator turned electromagnet. In a moment it was ready to begin the induction current again, although some black corrosion on its surface from the discharge before remained. All that was left was for the resident subject to enter the armor for testing to formally begin.

As Shamshiel watched the officers depart she allowed herself to relax a little more, Mihral pointing out her suggestions. "You're quite correct in that assumption. I think targeting can definitely be taken down a notch without too much effect. Have you also considered capping the power draw from certain lesser used servo motors, except when under extreme load? Might be an extra percentage point or two in there if we are aggressive..."

For a moment there, the green-eyed gem seemed entirely down to earth for the brave Semeai, but now it was back into the thick clouds of techno-babble between the two female scientists.

Machariel's unease only increased as the other Plebeian in the room (who, unsurprisingly, was also one of those accursed scientists) got intimately close to the Archangel and - in typical egghead fashion - proceeded to display a seemingly meaningless diagram of sorts while babbling on about something called "free processing." Oh, for Heaven's sake, would thou idiotic Ple...hmm?

Upon further examination, the teenaged Semeai realized that the aforementioned diagram had numbers on it. Granted, they weren't exactly easy to read...but they were there - and Machariel Valeria, although admittedly not the greatest in terms of grasping scientific concepts, happened to be very good with numbers. Had he been say, a Plebeian (or just in a better mood), the eldest of the Valeria children would have let out an exclamation of joy upon finally getting told something useful; being the aristocratic (well, aristocratic-raised) individual he was, however, Machariel merely settled for allowing a faint half-smile to flicker across his features - only to reflexively tense up a moment later as Shamshiel joined her colleague in standing uncomfortably close to the young Patrician. Uh......

One part of Machariel's mind noted that he was surrounded by two extraordinarily attractive females - and thus had already began conjuring some very......detailed mental imagery of the three engaging in some extremely inappropriate acts. Oh, God......

Another part of Machariel's mind was chastising the first. No, damn it, they're Plebeians! One does not entertain notions of becoming intimate with an inferior Caelisolan!

A third part of Machariel's mind was freaking the Hell out, thanks in part to the Prefectii and Duplicari having since left the compartment; with them gone, the Semeai was the only rational individual left among the three remaining Elysians - and was also the lowest in rank.

A forth part of Machariel's mind pointed out that one of the "irrational" figures - the cute redhead, according to that blasted first part - had (politely, surprisingly enough) spoken to him...

Shamshiel said:
"Thank you for volunteering, my lord. I assure you that this time should be without incident... the Mnemosyne AI shall be compensating for any irregularities in the current and will shutdown as needed. Beryl, if you would be a dear?"

...and that it would probably reflect poorly on the soldier (along with the Valeria name by extension) if he didn't enter the MCAS sooner rather then later. After all, a gentleman never, ever kept a lady waiting - even if said lady was a Caelisolan - and besides: the sooner he was encased in the armor, the less chance there would be of anyone noticing how......painfully tight his trousers were becoming.

With all of that in mind, Machariel distractedly replied "Of course..." to Shamshiel as he hurried over to one of the nearby storage lockers, stowed his gear, then jogged back to the designated Modular Combat Armor System and proceeded to enter it, sighing as he did so (owing to the process being irritatingly difficult, even more so then that of the Anthedon); a few grunts, snagged feathers, and muffled curses later, the Patrician activated the armor's systems, feeling a mild sense of relief upon discovering that it wasn't "his" armor that was being utilized (as the HUD was configured quite differently) - along with a major sense of trepidation as he realized just how potentially lethal things could become. Oh Heavenly Father, may thy grace grant thy humble servant the endurance necessary to survive this technological trial......

Mihral made her way behind the improvised directed current machine, and then behind some crates for extra precaution. She was happy that Machariel offered up his services as the next test though, she didn't want to do it herself, even if she knew the math was right, it just wasn't her kind of thing. While everything was getting set up in the final stages, she spoke to Shamshiel "I do not know much about mechanics, I wouldn't be able to pick the right ones."

She began typing on datapad once again, this time bringing up a volumetic display of the suit and shield integrity levels. "Lord Machariel, if you feel anything while inside, please let us know, even the slightest thing."

Cargo Bay > Bridge

The sound of the machine getting fixed caused Charalampos to wince, now free of the MCAS and the pain supression she realized just how the explosion had effected her. She rubbed her shoulder a bit with a rather sympathetic look on her face. "Should the AI falter, I do feel rather bad for that ignorant Patrician welp in there... Even my well trained body was strained by that explosion..." She eyed towards the captain for a moment before she looked forward continuing her stride at Ambriels pace. "Out of curiosity; however, I wonder what we may find down there...It could be anything." She said idly.

Ambriel listened to her XO, her mind alert as always despite her seemingly unwavering attention dedicated to where she was heading. "So long as he gets the job done I don't particularly care." She said in a firm tone before she looked at her XO. "I hope we find something worth all this trouble; otherwise coming here would have been just a waste of time that we could be using for more interesting ventures." She opened the door to the Bridge and sat back in the captains chair while Charalampos sat nearby awaiting the final results of the testing.

Cargo Bay

After the machine was repaired by Beryl, everything looked good to go. As Macharial got set into the MCAS, it wouldn't be until his highness was all strapped in that he would've most likely noticed this was a womans MCAS, and more noticable is the name etched into it: 'Mother'... Now wonder who that could be.

YSS Anoiktos, Cargo Hold

Machariel froze as he caught note of the name etched on the helmet's interior surface, just below the HUD - and thus missed the comments of the others in the room, for the Patrician's mind had summoned forth memories of the gorgeous, graceful, beloved, and deceased individual known as Lailah Valeria. That's...no, that's......inconceivable! Not even Father has that much authority! After all, he would've informed me if anything of Mother's was recovered.........

The longer he thought about it, however, the less certain the teenaged Semeai (motionless inside the MCAS) became, for "Father" - also known as Barachiel Valeria - was ruthless......and while there was plenty about his childhood that he'd rather forget, Machariel at least knew one thing for certain.

He knew that his father, in the days after learning of his wife's death, hadn't been terribly distraught, despite Barachiel's grieving in public.

Rather, said father had been..........exultant.

YSS Anoiktos, Cargo Hold

Mihral had waited a bit, but she did not get a confirmation from Machariel that he had heard her. The test had not even started yet but there were already problems with communication, that did not bode well. So the shapely Elysian made her way over to the Patricain and without so much as a warning whapped him on the head lightly with her data pad. "If you're not going to respond you need to step out. This is a very dangerous experiment." Her voice was stern but yet there was a hint of forgiving to it, it was a voice that had been developed more than 10 years keeping her own child in line.

YSS Anoiktos, Cargo Hold

Shamshiel tapped her nails against the console of the computer screen that had grown out of the organic deck, ready to once again begin cycling the fusion generator's power through the coils and create the directed energy field at the MCAS. The red-haired engineer peered over the console, wondering what the delay was. She caught the image of Mihral bopping him over the head with the datapad, which elicited a stifled chuckle. "Oh my, what seems to be the problem?" Shamshiel queried the Patrician, "Having second thoughts?"

YSS Anoiktos, Cargo Hold

"I'm fine" snapped Machariel at the two females, their (perceived) condescension plus the Patrician's annoyance at being interrupted momentarily enough to surpass his self-control. "Let's..." - a pause, as the teenager attempted to reign in his anger; a moment later he continued, rage (somewhat) abated - "...just get this over with."

A couple of seconds (and a sigh) later, he added "I......was merely thinking about my mother's passing."
