Interest Check Want to join the crew of a salvage vessel?

The SRSS Yggdrasill is a salvage vessel, or more specifically, Search, Rescue, Salvage. The niche is largely unexplored, and permits some rather interesting situations. If interested in joining this ship's crew, please reply to this post, so Wes and I can gauge interest, and determine our next course of action. This RP can be a starting point for new players, or a place for the players who Yui has ICly booted from the Star Army.

Note that while the RP isn't specifically combat oriented, it can and likely will occur from time to time, perhaps in the form of a rouge Power Armor or a pirate attack.

SALVAGE

The Yggdrasill was designed primarily as a salvage vessel, to pick parts directly from the battlefield. Built from a Vampire and outfitted with various custom devices, the ship is almost as at home in a debris or asteroid field as it is in deep space. To find items, a custom-made Star Army Item Generator has been programmed, with hundreds of items from 6 races (+ 1 Civilian List) and 23 planets. Easily edited and written for, this number will increase as time goes on.

Your character can look for that trinket to pawn for his next paycheck, look for parts to that machine he's been trying to build, or he can dare to dream, and hunt for that Big Score that is waiting, adrift in space.

RESCUE

Part of the job of a salvager is to send home the dead to their loved ones, to provide closure in exchange for taking their income from the battlefields, but occasionally, someone out there survives the attack, or a ship manages to fire a Soul Savior Pod with a memory backup device. In these instances, it is up to the salvager to use their skills to preserve life, and return that soldier home. This can be a rewarding experience for the player, and returning them may just build ties with other groups in the future.

EXPLORE

As stated, the Star Army Item Generator supports several races and many planets, and is expandable. Because of this, the Yggdrasill will travel across known space to various sites, meeting new races and cultures, which can be interacted with. As a civilian vessel, the crew itself may have people from multiple races as well, permitting very interesting scenarios.

TECHNOLOGY

Multiple races mean exposure to many varying technologies. A technician on the Yggdrasill can find and study many different kinds of armor, weapons, etc. And become quite well rounded over time. If they learn enough, and have enough ingenuity, perhaps they can eventually combine the technologies they encounter into interesting new concepts and designs.

This would also be a pretty good way for a new character to build up some cash and items, even if you only hung out for a mission or two.

Well, Sekiko, I was referring to the order Yui just made about certain races not being allowed in the SA, but you fit in there, too. ^^

I'm interested but perhaps you would do best by posting a job offer and preparing an introduction.

For example, you could say you needed a navigator, an electronics specialist, an accountant and someone who's experienced with identifying objects or using weapons (the latter if salvage is particularly feirce).

Sounds good.

What's the scale of the plotship?

I've put together some positions that the Yggdrasill would need. While the computer can allow one person to run these functions, we'd need:

Executive Officer, a.k.a. First Mate: This person would be in charge if Toshiro were not present, and would be his second-in-command otherwise. Such a position would need to be earned by a member of the crew over time.

Pilot/Navigator: They are able to pilot the ship and also will be trained to be able to use the Grappler System and the dynamic thruster system. This person would actually bring in most debris.

Offense/Weapons: They will control the Yggdrasill's non-grappler-based weapon systems. Also should be trained in the use of a battle tank, just in case the Yggdrasill's is needed. In non-battle situations, this person would be in charge of working with the Engineers and Technicians to maintain the weapons, and assist in identifying related salvage materials.

Defense/Tactical: They will control the Deflector, Shields, and maintain Life Support and dynamic gravity. This person would also control the internal grapplers in the cargo bay, and the Graviton Projectors mounted on the ship itself.

Communications: This person would be in charge of the communications system. This would be fairly standard, though the person would also be trained in the Yggdrasill's custom emergency communication system, YEPCS. YEPCS requires collaboration with the Pilot, who controls the Grapplers, and the Pulsers on them.

Engineer/Technician: Yaichiro fills the role of Chief Engineer, knowing the vessel more than anyone else, but one or two technicians aquainted with the Vampire-class's design and operation are needed to assist should he be stuck on the bridge. They will also assist him in identifying salvaged components.

Medical: The ship's doctor must be well-trained in medical practices for most humanoid species. The ship's doctor will have the task of preserving salvaged tissues for return to their families, as well as treating the crew and the rescued. The doctor's demeanor must be taken into careful consideration, as they will likely handle more dead body parts than most doctors, and depression is possible.

Positions that may be open in the future:

Power Armor Pilots: The Yggdrasill may eventually find enough components to make a functional Power Armor, or purchase one, whatever. At this point however, the only Power Armor component that is usable is a LAMIA torso which needs a lot of work, and is only pilotable by computer or an 8-inch-tall NH-12. This may change at a moment's notice, however. It is truly luck of the draw.

Additional Captains/Crew: It is also possible to find other ships adrift in space to salvage. While rare, it is concievable that the Yggdrasill RP may one day expand to be multi ship, or even a small fleet. It depends on what happens.

Alcohol will be permitted on the ship, as long as it doesn't hinder crew performance. 18+ posts will have to have that in their thread title (if the ship gets its own sub-forum).

Well since I was asked and I have been following this for a little bit, I heard they found a Helashio. Can I make a Helashio NPC for the domestics on the ship?

Yep!

We'll work out the details for that.

That's 3 + me so far. ^^

Note that this RP will permit some 18+ elements. It might not wind up being like on the Sakura, but I must warn that it will be present, and a certain level will be permitted as the norm. Anything super explicit though, will need an 18+ warning on the tread name, and made super tiny when posted.

The frequency of such things depend on the players themselves, of course.

Suuure you were.

That aside I absolutely reccomend it. Get a few people on Yggdrasil and you can have a plotship reminescent of the awesomeness of Serenity! If... Mal were a hopeless puritan with no sexual experience, and Inara was an army fucktoy with a mental inability to screw...

Uh, I was under the impression the Seion was a character background thing. You're telling us it was an actual plotship?

MM07, I recommend you check out a classic PC game called "Hardwar".
If you have trouble getting it, I'll rip my CDs and have a shot at torrenting them.

The game revolves around trying to make a name for yourself, trapped on Titan. Your ship is a sort of hover craft come jet-fighter with a wide array of capabilities and there are four primary roles a player can take but it's not limited.

You'd be interested in the salvaging/pirating roles within the game: From 4 or 5 hours of gameplay, you can get some pretty sweet inspiration for salvage situations.

Say, you see someone about to pick up some cargo and a pirate is more than interested. He could remain undetected until they're close to the trading area and then open fire on them. In the mean time, you've tagged along behind and let the fight unfold until the cargo-ship is on it's last legs and then finish off the pirate.

Collect his scraps from whatever's left of his ship and trade parts the ship needs for repair from your repository and make a killing in the process or demand it in return for his best cargo.

Not only do you have some sweet salvage kit and some good cargo but you've also been paid a bounty from the local authorities for destroying a known pirate.

...Actually, now that I think of it...

How is the Pirate RP going?

I have a character from a previous RP who would probably get on very well in this setting.

Piracy is not my area, I'm just working on the program for it and the lists. THe rules for the Piracy function are still being determined as well. However, it may be interesting to have Salvage/Piracy crossovers, maybe a rivalry here and there.

And I will look for Hardwar. It sounds like a neat game and a good inspiration maker.

Note: Looky! We're an official plotship now! ^^
