Long story short, as I initially created the original versions, I was thinking to myself how in Gundam, the weapons were typically stated as being a much smaller caliber than they actually appeared. It turned out that even thinking about this was a bad idea, as I ended up doing the exact opposite mistake; listing the weapon caliber as being far larger than they actually looked.

This is intended as a caliber retcon only, not an update or overhaul of the weapon articles themselves.

12.7mm? That's half an inch. Surely the bore diameter on the pistol is greater than that?
 
That's the funny thing; the bullets for everything are caseless and are longer than conventional bullets, so they're bigger and heavier than the normal calibers. Also, if their diameter is small, but with a larger height, we can fit the ammo into the magazines more easily and avoid more messing with the space time continuum.
