What Would You Like To See Art For in 2025?

As discussed in Star Army's January 2025 Community Meeting, I'd like to do a new surge of art commissions to start off the new year.

I'd like your feedback as a community what we should be getting art for.

These could be updated character artworks for player characters in plots, something to help out new players who are sticking around, or art for places or technologies of Star Army that appear in the RP.

I'm also interested to hear if you have recommendations for specific artists or art commissions that have decent prices, terms, speed, and communication, and can accept PayPal payments (Russian artists for example cannot because of the ongoing war).

Also if you see a suggestion you like below, you can upvote it so I can see what the most popular ideas are. Thanks for your time and I hope you'll love the art we get.

Q: But Wes, can't you just AI up everything?
A: No! I want artwork that's uniquely Star Army's, and human artists are way better at getting the details (e.g. uniforms) right. And I don't want to replace artists, just to supplement things. Star Army means to be a friend to artists and support artists with the funds we have available (which are sparse, but still)

Q: Who's going to pay for it?
A: I expect to mostly pay for the 2025 Art Surge using my own funds plus Site Supporter donations (as available). If you want a particular artwork you can also purchase it and have it be a part of the surge. There will be a wiki page to show all the cool art we got similar to the 2021 Art Surge.

I would like to see more illustrations! I know this is both a more expensive option and one that is harder to find capable artists for, but the few full illustrations sarp does have really add to its charm and worldbuilding. Examples include Kotori looking out at space (it's a xenforo background), Masumi in a Mindy on the Eucharis mission(on Mindy page), and any Adam Kop starship art.

I’m new, so idk what is what, but I really like when roleplay has images of the setting. Makes it feel more immersive?

Like idk maybe stuff like this, though probably this stuff might already be in the wiki?
  • Interior layouts of the common ship designs
  • Main cities (or important landmarks within the cities) from the homeworlds and what those look like (architecture, parks, world wonders)
  • starbase locations and their layouts, their community centers, ect
  • Military and/or Corporation logos/mascots that appear commonly on equipment
