Are you happy with that rendition, Wes?
It makes the Kodians approachable, yes. I sets them in uniform too, which I figure is also good. But I find the approahability to be a double-edged sword, as it seems to detract from how larger than life they could be. The sketch... makes me (unkindly?) think of them as Carebears in uniforms.
I've read the RP surrounding the first contact with the Kodians. I'll admit it the sketch above falls very shy of how... badass they seemed presented as.
In my mind, they were huge - in a way that would make them awkward inside starship corridors. They seemingly could stand on their two hindpaws and walk around like that while having their forepaws fully capable of manipulating things/tool usage... but they could go down on all four just as naturally. They also had this gritty kind of cybernetic components and other semi-armor-like plated grafts on them that might've made them seem more at home with Nepleslians than Yamataians.
I do have something I could point out as an example: the war bears from the Golden Compass movie.
This guy has presence. This guy isn't like us, he could tower over most of us if he stood upright, and probably would only be able to fit within most of our living spaces going on four paws. This guy wouldn't wear uniforms since it'd be silly to try tofit them in one of those, but we could fashion "Star Army harnesses" to accomodate them. Our bodyarmor/power armor approach wouldn't workwith them either, requiring other arrangements.
All of this is less convenient, less homogenous than what the sketch above would offer. But it would be so much cooler to envision them so. Even though it's still essentially an animal-like anthropomorphic alien, it;d be different than us, and so in a way would feel more alien when we'd face or deal with such an individual.
