Mitsuko sat up straight as Taharial took the seat next to her, pulling her back to the present. "Oh...I have been well, Chasan-Hei. And yourself?" She smiled politely befoer sipping at her hot beverage, not wanting to eat while chatting with the other crew member. "Enjoying this time off, I hope?"
It wasn't long before presents began to be passed out, Hanako's creating quite a pile, as usual. She had already received a set of luggage some years back, so likely didn't receive another, but the other gifts were very appreciated. She had the blanket wrapped around her shoulders as she carefully examined the firearm the Nepleslian transfer had gifted her, carefully packing it back up with the rest of the items. Most of the crew she had not known for long, so she'd also selected fairly generic gifts for most of them. Everyone received a simple leather schedule book for the coming year that had room to track things like expenses and supplies in addition to appointments. It also came with a code for an identical digital app, for those that preferred that over low-tech pen and paper. There's was also another code included for a slightly more personalized subscription to some sort of specialized digital magazine, like Neko of Fortune Quarterly for the infantry, or Popular Stellar Mechanics for the more technologically inclined.
Additionally, a few received more personalized gifts. Natsumi's contained a framed picture of her, Mitsuko, Riko and Misato during a Year-End shopping trip from a few years back, apparently pulled from Mitsuko's memories. It had obviously taken a bit of work to find one 'frame' where she'd caught all four of them in the reflection on a storefront window. There was also a miniature, remote controlled drone shaped like a Plumeria-class ship. Victory had received some sort of specliazed tools and devices that were obviously exciting for the pair, but seemed useless and dull to anyone outside of their field. Tahariel's gift included a glass jar pre-filled with lollipops. Hanako was obviously the hardest to shop for, as there wasn't much she couldn't just buy for herself. Mitsuko had hunted down an actual hard copy of a book written about Ketsurui Uesu for the captain's collection (although she probably knew him personally, so there wasn't much a book could tell her, but at least it would look nice on display). She also included her extremely thorough notes and research about their last few missions, relating to Uesu's fleet, the wreckage and ships they'd recovered or destroyed, and the two alien species they had encountered. Because of course she'd spent her vacation working.
