RP: Lorath YE34 - You Can't Always Get What You Want

There was a Nepleslian saying which went far back, so far back it likely predated the Lorath exile beneath the surface of their world, so far back that it could have even predated the Matriarchy in itself, but it was a valid saying that lingered so heavily in modern dealings with the Nepleslians that the saying in Trade had even become part of Lorath dialect; "You can't always get what you want.". It certainly did seem bleak, but it also had implication, implication that what one wanted was not always what was best, sometimes what a person wanted would have to yield to what was needed. It seemed, that the Nepleslian saying had a deep tie to the situation in which the Lorath High Priest had found himself in light of the recent blow which the Ketsusuri Princess had dealt the Matriarchy this time.

A year and a half in Lorath time was certainly a short time to keep a national secret, a secret which was so well kept from the United Outer Colonies, even though the truth was so known to the people of the Matriarchy. However, with the secret so freshly buried, it was a small wonder that they were able to keep a lid on it until it was truly settled. Unfortunately, time to settle was simply unavailable, and it resulted in their secret ending up on the cusp of being discovered, it was just a matter of time. They had the where, all they needed was the when and the how. Those were the things which Velor had at his disposal, those were the things which were going to save the face of the Matriarchy from being painted as that of a demon by the Empire, which no doubt they had the intent to do the moment one of their scientific marvels would uncover a glimmer of fact and augment it with a load of assumption.

What Velor knew was that the choice his sister and him had made to exterminate the Occhestians was one that was not taken lightly. They knew the risks, no, not the risks of the extermination, that was not the risk at all, the risk was keeping them alive, allowing them to continue. When they had taken their shot at the Xiaah, the Occhestians had sent a message, that was what Velor was certain of. It was a message of their being ready to exert their will, their being ready to make their own truth. It would have torn apart not just the Matriarchy, no, the Occhestians which they had been forced to exterminate were an embodiment of the worst sins which had ever been committed by the Matriarchy in their strive to reclaim their world. There was no love to those people, no compassion. They were products, products of the Occhestian state, and Velor knew they would have acted without restraint and would have carried out their vendetta against not only the Matriarchy, but also the Yamatai Empire, and that, was the truth that Velor knew.

With such thoughts in mind, Velor arranged notes, written notes, as he rehearsed what needed to be said, before another truth could be painted over the facts, the facts as they were, the facts that he knew were genuine. It was up to time to tell what others would deem as the 'truth' in their eyes, but, he knew that to speak words of confession was the first step of penance.
