Star Army Cabin, Type 39

The Type 39 Cabin is a home and/or office wooden cabin design used by the Star Army of Yamatai. It was added to the Star Army's catalog of equipment in YE 39 for use as a home or small office on habitable planets.

As part of their benefits of service, members of the Star Army of Yamatai may request land with one of these cabins on it after serving 3 or more consecutive years.

The cabin is currently not sold to the public but the Star Army values them at 25,000 KS.

Exterior

The cabin is made of sturdy wood that may be stained and treated or painted. Typically the exterior walls are plastered and painted a bright color and the beams are painted white. The roof is made of power-generating solar tiles.

Star Army cabins have a front porch with a railing, and it is common for chairs to be located on the porch.

It is typical for the flag of Yamatai or a rank flag (if an officer is present) to be flown from the porch.

Dimensions

The cabin is modestly-sized.

  • Height: 6.71 meters (22 feet) without chimney, 7 meters (23 feet) with chimney
  • Width: 9.75 meters (32 feet) across
  • Sides: 7.8 meters (25.6 feet) on the sides excluding porch, 8.8 (26 1/4 feet) including porch
  • Front door height: 1.83 meters (6 feet)
  • Floor space: Around 850 ft2

Interior

The cabin has a small, cozy interior consisting of 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, a kitchen, a living room and dining room, a utility/laundry room, and stairs up to a loft. Each story is about 2.4 meters (8 feet) tall.

In the typical home configuration, the cabin entrance leads to a living and dining area (on the right side) with staircase just inside the door leading to the upper floors. The left front of the house is the main bedroom, which has a closet that is under the stairs. The door to the bedroom is at the foot of the stairs and on the left when entering the front door. The kitchen is centered in the rear of the house, adjacent to the dining area. From the kitchen or the bedroom, a utility area with laundry machines can be accessed. A bathroom at the left rear corner of the house is accessible from the utility area or the back of the cabin.

The general layout is below (not to scale):

The exits of the house are the double doors in the front, a sliding door in the dining room, and a door from the bathroom directly to the back yard/porch (if present).

The living and dining area may optionally be equipped with a fireplace with a brick chimney leading up to the roof; however on some cabins the chimney on the roof is merely cosmetic, which saves space in the cabin.

It is common to find a Star Army Sofa, Type 39 in these cabins as they were made around the same time.

Second Floor

The second floor is a loft area that can be used as an additional bedroom or living space. The loft area is usually left open and covers the left side of the house (as view from the front door). On the right side the area above the living and dining area is left open to the roof rafters. Alternatively, the cabins can be built with the loft covering the entire second floor for additional floor space. The front of the house has two dormer windows.

Office Configuration

The Star Army also uses these cabins for office space and small recruiting stations.

In the office configuration, the cabin is laid out as follows:

The second level is used as a lounge and breakroom, or for storage.
