Submission URL: https://wiki.stararmy.com/doku.php?id=wip:faction:vekimen_defensive_task_force

Faction: VDTF
FM Approved Yet? Yes
Faction requires art? No

For Reviewers:
Contains Unapproved Sub-Articles? Yes
Contains New art? No
Previously Submitted? No

Notes: These are just hub pages for me to keep everything in order. I will be requesting a move of everything I have put in the "Species:Vekimen:" Namespace to more appropriate name spaces once these pages are clear for approval.

My feeling here is to reject this, as it is not complete. That's not a comment on how well it's done or its quality — it's just not yet ready for submission review.

You can withdraw this if you like, or I can reject it without the label and restore it later when you're ready.

What about it is incomplete?

Better question, these are literally base pages. By default, they may never be complete to the levels of factions like Yamatai without months and months of work. These are places for people to go so that they have a starting point for either the VDTF as a faction, or the technology the VDTF has made through Komodo Arms.

Komodo Arms will /never/ be completed because there will always be new technology ((hopefully)) to be designed.

The Faction page is just a local page to put all the other more detailed informational pages. An approved example would be the page for the Iroma, which I based the faction page off.

You should just get rid of all of the empty subheadings, then, until you have something to put there. Better to fit in wiki style for approval's sake than have a big empty list forever.

What @raz said. They don't have to be complete in for all time — they just need to look complete now. No redlinks, no empty headers.

What empty headers? I made sure the headers under KAM had something under them and made everything more or less uniform. Recent change, are than any specific empty headers.

I removed redlinks on the Faction page, based on what @Wes told me about the rules on redlinks. No link statements are fine as placeholders.

The stuff under KAM that says "none to date" can be removed, I would argue. @Wes, can you confirm? If there's nothing to put there, why have it there at all? Makes the page cleaner and easier to read, and there's no loss of relevant information.

The reason I have that is to maintain the format of the page. The "None to Date" is me making sure that there are things going there. After all, they are headers.

The VDTF page needs some meat to it, in my opinion, in terms of text under the headers.

The Komodo page looks fine to me except for all the "none to date" sections. Really it should have been submitted in another thread.

You can always add those sections back later once there's there's to put in them.

Does that mean this page needs more meat too it as well?

This is a link on the front page of the whole wiki itself. I felt it was a fairly good option. What else would you like on the VDTF page?

I like having the formatting there in regards to the Komodo Page. As I come up with things I can put them in under "In development" and move on from there. If it's really that big an issue I can remove it, but I would much rather prefer not to, just to keep it in mind and the like.

That was approved a very long time ago, and other approved submissions don't really have any bearing on current submissions.

The Yamatai Star Empire page is probably more in line with what Wes is looking for, or even the more recently approved USO page. Nashoba's Hidden Sun Clan splash page is also really great. So is the Neshaten page.

The factional splash page is linked from the main wiki page, and is often the first thing new players see. Strive to get them excited with a bit of history and fluff, or something~

I thought this looked familiar.

I'll get on updating that right away, Edto. You've got such a discerning eye.

I've said it before to you and I'll say it again, and that is to always strive to do better than that which came before you.

As beautiful as that sounds, there should be a clear accepted standard. There is only so far you can "Improve" something. I looked at Yamatai, and fully admitted I do not yet have near enough content to hope for that, and then I saw some other faction pages, and they weren't quite great, then I saw the Iroma page and went "This looks clean, to the point, and transfers information quickly, giving direct links to where you want them to go"

"Be better than what came before you" is a horrible bar to set as a standard. What is the standard.

Personally, I would say that is adding links for the sake of adding links. Why aren't all those aspects given their own hub pages? Their own stubs? Imagine if Yamatai posted every single drug, food item, and other such things.

You want a good layout?

https://wiki.stararmy.com/doku.php?id=faction:yamatai_star_empire

The fact you have "Food and Drink" and "Drugs" with every single link for each item just looks bad. No offence, but it seems like you are deliberately trying to make your faction page longer.

Instead, make a page for "Food and Drink" and "Drugs" and then link all those items on those pages, linking those pages on your faction page. Cleaner, and people don't have to read through all the items if they aren't interested in reading through all the items, they can just click the link if they are.

I'll make a hub for a few of them and get back to you to show you what it can look like.

There's no set standard. You shouldn't expect one; FMs have flexibility there. But there is a reasonable floor, and the Iroma page easily meets it.

Yours doesn't. It's full of headers without anything substantive under them. That's why I inquired about removing them. THAT is a cleaner page. The Iroma page does just fine and certainly is clean enough for reading. If people want to check out food and drink, they can do it from the main page. That's acceptable. Yamatai has a different approach.
