Psionic Warfare

I have a few more questions that I have been unable to find a answer to:

-How does the ADN system function?

-What medium do psionic transmissions travel through?

-What is there carrier wave/particle?

-How fast does a psionic signal propagate (travel)? Below c? At c? Instantaneous?

-Why can't psionics be used for attack? After all, lasers are in many ways just a more powerful, concentrated form of a radio transmission (and microwave radar has now been developed into a weapon btw).

-Psionics apparently allows for the alteration of brain matter because it transmits data (which, by necessity will alter the state of matter, otherwise it would not be perceived). Why can't a powerful psion expand this to affect larger bodies of matter, say a rock lying on the ground? Why can't even a weak psion use this to move very small, light objects?

-Since we seem to have violated the sci-fi convention that only organic minds cause psionics, what is the point of having organics using them period? A machine will not ever tire and could withstand stresses that would liquefy the organic brain.

On the balancing factor thing I would think a good IC explanation would be that the use of psionics is tiring and can cause damage to the user if they over draw themselves. For example a simple communique over a few hundred km wouldn't be much of a problem for most individuals, they could send hundreds of them without getting tired what so ever. If, on the other hand they where trying to mentally coordinate a entire fleet ranging out thousands or tens of thousands of km they would get tired very fast. Finally if, say, someone tried to mentally attack too many people at once (or with too strong of a attack) they might face cerebral hemorrhaging and the like.

On a last here (I realize this is not the intent of this thread, but it needs to be expanded upn), as several have said, how is psionics any less realistic then other things in this setting?

=120 meter long scout ships have shields that produce more power than 350 Suns every second.

=Weapons exist that output more energy in a single shot than exists in more than 10% of the b[entire universe!!![/b] (this energy release would, btw, create a black hole so large it would swallow the know universe; twice over in fact).

=Sensor systems (the WARMS system it was I believe) explicitly violate corner stone theories of reality (the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle in this case).

=Matter can formed from temporal energy (what the hell is "temporal energy"? time *is*, it doesn't have energy).

=It is possible to create materials (yarvex) that blatantly ignore every law and theory for how matter behaves.

How is psionics *any* different than these things? If anything it is less objectionable. (/endrant)

As usual, I'm going to have to say that I'm not entirely sure. It may have been stated already, but I believe the reason that psionic attacks would not be allowed is for game balance issues.

I'm sure you've probably stated some of the reasons psionics are being reduced, simply because of the being a lack of real medium and understanding for them as they are generally considered higher level DnD Nerd or alternative magic for some modern RP settings.

I can answer the ADN question though. The name pretty much explains it all. Alpha Delta wave Neutralizer. Much like the Bose sound cancellation stuff it sends out alpha and delta waves to cancel out the alpha and delta waves produced by and outside of the brain which are the cause of psionics.

I guess that also quasi-answers the 'is there a carrier wave/particle' question as well. I believe it is implied that the alpha and delta waves are sent out from the brain and whatnot.

I know magic and this sort of psionics seems to have roughly vanished from the wiki/RP's "face", but just how much of psionics and information on what is/isn't allowed in relation to it still exists? I mean, I know there are some species/groups that imitate it (such as the hovering/telekinesis abilities) so it'd be nice to see a revival of this on what is/isn't allowed and just how much of psionics are available to the various (current) races.

Thinking about the Brolt, any psionic ability would basically make them a wizard... since they're medieval. Probably similar with that other group of noble-bearing antagonists that got made. The one I should know the name of because I talked to the creator of 'em about possible shenanigans.
