If they are played by a GM in a plot they are in (eg Cassefin) they qualify as NPCs.

Re: 2011 AWARDS NOMINATIONS

Clarifications from SARPtalk 22:

We've recently opened nominations for the 2011 Sarpy Awards, allowing all members submit nominations for up to 81 awards. You do not have to post your nominations publicly. You can PM them to me. You are allowed to nominate yourself. You are allowed to nominate more than one name or post for each award. You do not have to submit a nomination for all awards. And you do not have to submit all your nominations at one time. The nominations are due by November 20, 2011. Shortly after that, we will open voting for the rest of the year and give out awards for the new year. Also, if you're an artist interested in helping us with award graphics, let me know.

ROLEPLAY THREADS
I couldn't think of anything, so this part will mostly just spam Silic moments.

67. Best One-Liner Post

https://stararmy.com/roleplay/viewtopic.php?f=114&t=5787&start=260

Silic followed a little behind Ira, taking care to match his footprints, shotgun ready. “Lets get medieval on this future-tech.”

68. Best Death Scene

A second black haired Neko appeared along side of Silic, "Welcome... ahh... are you okay?" she said her concern clearly visible.

Silic looked up at the Neko, grinning slightly in embarrassment, he looked absolutely horrid. “I might need a hand up.” he admitted, climbing shakily out of his seat. As he stood on the frame of the aircraft and straightened he stopped, “Oh, gravity works...” he commented before the helmet slipped from his fingers, contents sloshing inside before tipping over the edge and down.

Silic swayed for a second, and then silently followed the former contents of the helmet, ending with a wet thud on the hangar floor. He stayed concious long enough to make a sound of deep disgust, and then fell still.

69. Best Combat Scene

https://stararmy.com/roleplay/viewtopic.php?f=114&t=5787&start=190

Silic heard the dull thud as something hit the ground behind him, he turned and saw the dark cylinder. “Uh...”

Ira saw the grenade land, and out of pure instinct he jumped from his sitting position, and followed it. Landing face first into the dirt he grabbed the explosive device, and sent it right back where it had come from. Ira then flipped over onto his belly and duck and covered.

It was not a very good throw at all. It was a desperate attempt to keep the thing from blasting both Ira and Silic to pieces. Instead the Grenade landed in the vehicle Silic was initially checking on.

Silic watched to flight of the grenade as it started dropping back down. “Wait!” he shouted, reaching towards his car uselessly “Not the Dirteh!”

The grenade landed in the back of the LUT with an audible clunk followed by a blast as the grenade detonated. Followed by two almost simultaneous blasts as the grenades in Silic's backpack detonated. The LUT rocked back and forth and bounced from the concussion of the blast and vanished in a cloud of smoke.

Silic's outstretched hand slowly balled into a fist and fell to his side, his face hidden behind his visor . “Sir,” he growled loudly, slowly turning towards Ira “I'm really sorry about this.” and sent the fist straight into Ira's gut hard enough to wind him.

That done, he turned around and screamed “Bastards!” towards the other side of the stream, before firing again “You have until I reach the other side o' dis stream before I just kill you all!”

Ira curled up and let out a shocked little noise as Silic's punch did its damage. SIlic made the mistake of turning around leaving Ira to recover.

Ira hopped up onto his feet(still managing to keep his head down) and glared at Silic as the man screamed loudly at the enemy. Ira would place the back of his heel across the side of Silic's head, courtesy of a full force round house kick.

Ira did not know what the penalty for striking an officer in the Star Army of Yamatai was. But he was not going to let getting struck go unanswered. Plus Silic was unstable as it seemed. It was time to incapacitate him.

Silic felt the impact against the back of his helmet and staggered forward out of control, tripping and rolling down the bank. Weapon tumbling with him, he disappeared into the stream with a clumsy splash, the last sight of him was his boots sinking down into the water. His weapon balanced at the edge of the water on its barrel for a second, as though wondering if this was really a good idea, before tipping slowly forwards and following its master to the depths. It seemed to have been Silic's luck to land in a hole in the otherwise rather shallow stream.

70. Best Love Scene

https://stararmy.com/roleplay/viewtopic.php?f=114&t=5787

"HEY!" She gave a tug on the boot. "WAKE UH--" forgetting her own enhanced strength, the dozing figure on the wing was jerked out of their perch and only had time to let out a startled snort before the return flight to earth departed. Lynn had time to pull a very surprised face as the dark shape fell on top of her, the two of them landing in a pile on the tarmac.

She ended up on her back with the recent snoozer laying across her waist, face down.

"Ow..." said the figure, red panels giving him away as the rather useless Vas-hei. "That's the second damn time..." he muttered to himself angrily. His faced turned towards Lynn as he gathered his surroundings. "Oh, hey Bright-Eyes."

The only thing Lynn could think of, right at that moment, was how calm Silic seemed to be while he layed across her like a GOOD acquaintance. Her eyes grew larger and more frightened as humiliation first set in, then fear, and finally panic. The combination of all three made the seed planted within all Nekovalkyrja flourish: Violence. Silic raised an eyebrow as her expression turned.

...

He stepped a little closer and leaned down to offer her a hand up, just far enough away that he might have a chance of surviving if she went feral.

Lynn looked at the hand, not sure of its purpose. An ear flicked. Her own hand went out cautiously to his, wondering if it was some special thing the nepleslian did. She tensed as the bigger Nepleslian grasped her wrist and pulled gently. Suddenly, she was up on her feet. The two stood close together, and Lynn hadn't let go of her hold on Silic's wrist. She could hear him breathing. This close she could see the indents on his face from the tarmac gained during impact.

"This is sort of the part where you let go." he said, smiling good-naturedly, eyebrows jumping above his sunglasses for a second.

Lynn blushed, and blurted out an apology before letting go. She took one step back, made a small, frightened noise with her throat and bolted away from Silic to disappear into the mist. She heard him call out in surprise, and then he disappeared too.

71. Most Humorous Scene

https://stararmy.com/roleplay/viewtopic.php?f=114&t=5787&start=70

With a slow breath, Lynn swung around and padded through the doorway with her NSP up and set on 'Pulse'. Lynn's foot made a soft 'tap' as it hit the ground. The entrance into the infirmary was behind her, the mist slipping in slowly.

"Silic? Where are you, you idiot?" She grumbled, looking around.

From deeper inside the CDRM came a burst of gunfire, followed by a pitched scream and series of crashes. Silic appeared from around a bank of hemosynth tanks running as fast as his legs could carry him, he slowed down long enough to throw a set of shelves behind him before charging straight towards the exit, and Lynn.

Lynn's eyes widened and the NSP came up so she could see down the sights. "What the hell is happeni --" She was cut off as Silic leaned down and scooped her over his shoulder, never stopping his insane speed. Behind him Lynn could make out a light shape slip past the hasty barrier with ease, and hone in on them.

As he exploded out of the prefab building he screamed at the top of his lungs "You see it?! Shoot it! Shoot it!!" Ignoring the continuing gunfight he carried Lynn straight between the two forces, still screaming. "Fucken shoot it! Damn!"

Lynn didn't hear him, too busy screaming in pure yamataian. "BAKA! BAKA! BAKA! BAKA!* FOOL! BAKA! NO! PUT ME DOWN!"

But without being told, she was already firing wildly at the trailing wild cat behind them that yowled its fury.

72. Most Disturbing Scene

https://stararmy.com/roleplay/viewtopic.php?f=114&t=5391&start=140

After Yaeko sped passed the unknowns she did a quick U-turn, followed by several missiles, all aimed at two or three different targets. She then sent a volley of laser fire at one of the fighters as she accelerated towards it. "You doing alright back there?"

“Mmhmm!” replied Silic, keeping his mouth firmly closed. Probably looking a little green.

...

Behind her, Yaeko would hear a small sound of reching and a slight hicblug from Silic, followed by a tiny splattering noise.

Yaeko sniffed a couple of times before turning around. "Did you do what I....OH MY GOD, you puked in my fighter!? UGH!!" She flipped her head forward as she heard a pinging noise. "Ow, pulled muscle," she yelped as she stretched her neck out. She flipped up the display for the sensors before cursing and yelling. "Damn! Incoming at 20LY and closing, ready the weapons, full power, prepare for some combat." She checked the direction of the incoming shuttle before shifting to put herself between their transport and the UFO.

“It's worse than you know...” replied Silic, sounding awfully calm for his situation as he eyed the little globules that had formed against the transparent face plate of his helmet apprehensively. Perhaps he meant the mess floating with him in his now claustrophobic helmet, or the view from his sensors. In either case he gulped loudly, returning to his job trying to find out as much as possible about this new contact, his right hand unconsciously brushing the outer surface of his face plate fruitlessly as he did so.

As Silic ran into the forest, tree branches tugged at his clothes. As he passed a large tree trunk, a think branch swung at him. It hit with force just beneath his neck and knocked him backwards onto the ground. After he hit the ground a Zen Armaments 10mm Submachine Pistol
appeared above him pointing at him. From his positioned in looked as if it was being held by a bush of some sort.

"Oi' what did you do that for, we were only supposed to distract the Star Army people." a gruff deep voice called out.

A female voice chuckled, "Well I would say that this one is plenty distracted right now. Thought you'd be a hero soldier boy?"

Silic hit the ground with a dull “Ompf!”, he wiped the tears from his eyes and looked around, noticing the suspiciously armed rhododendron and chuckled nervously.

“I don't suppose I could interest anyone in a jelly baby?”

Yaeko's mind raced as she thought of how to get him down. Suddenly she though of something. "I hope this works." She pulled out her NSP and took careful aim. Taking a deep breath to steady herself, she fired several shots in the air, aimed at the branches that were caught in Silic's parachute. Her hope was that it would get him down but leave the chute in-tact enough to get him down safely.

Unfortunately Silic was pretty much right between Yaeko and the parachute, after the first few shots an a sizzle could be heard as a shot lightly scored an arm near the shoulder, the NSP destroyed surrounding branches with a burning smell and exploding sap, loose bark rained down with a few tiny droplets of blood. There was a creak as branches began to bend, then a loud snap sent Silic spinning and tumbling down.

He fell another ten feet before another he caught a large branch with his stomach, the creaking sound could have been from either bending wood or cracked ribs, Silic only uttering a small “Omph.” as air was pushed out out of his lungs. Slowly he slid around until he was falling again, only to be jerked to a sudden stop again, the parachute again arresting his fall among the branches above, still a 25 feet above Yaeko, his arms and legs dangling and rocking limply.

Looking down Ira would see a thin wire caught by the lacing on his boot. The wire was taught and seemed to stretch across the path to the encampment. He could not see what the wire was attached to at either end, perhaps just an alarm, or something a tad more rude....

“What?” said Silic, looking up at the sky, not hearing Ira as bullets started flying overhead. It was only when he bumped the other man over that he came back to his body. “What, sir?” then Yeako's message came through, “What?” By this point Silic looked very confused.

Ira had slowly removed his foot and stepped over the wire. The sounds of fun fire could be heard. It was at that point Silic sent Ira toppling over, and broke the wire. Ira covered him self up, but only found he still existed.

As Ira hit the ground, a deafening explosion erupted from the side of the trail, a shockwave and projectiles flew over his head shredding all the vegetation.

Silic was knocked backwards down the trail by the concussion wave of the blast, as he tumbled back down the path, he could hear the distinct ping, followed by an explosion and repeat. After the third explosion he came to a rest against the base of a large tree. The way before him was a mass of smoke, and vegetation settling down. It created a wall through which the hostiles could not see anything.

"Damn it all Ira hissed."

"Chui, what is the sit-rep?!" Ira said calling in over the coms.

Ira then decided since the old plan had gone to crap. Ira glared at Vas-Hei but could not say much more. "All right, Vas-Hei you are on point, old plan failed, I guess we are going to have to kill them all."

Ira then hopped to his feet, and started moving to flank the smuggler camp.

With a groan Silic managed to look down what was once the path just in time to hear the end of Iras' plan. “Great plan, sir. Love your work.” he replied woozily before his head fell back down and he tipped sideways in concussion induced pain, and probably something else, helmet bumping against the ground. “Ow...”

Well, let's see here...I don't really read much outside the plots I'm directly involved in, mostly due to lack of time and the truly MASSIVE plotship archives most of you all have built up! So, I give this list based on what I have heard or experienced myself, so many of these may not be up to par. They'll also seem kinda self-serving at times, but if Jimmy can do it, then so can I!

(I'm...half-kidding on that last part!)

A lot of these nominations will include notes, and what is said should be taken in jest before being taken seriously. I know it can be difficult telling the two apart, so use liberal applications of Hanlon's Razor if something strikes you wrong, and feel free to ask for clarification via PM or in IRC. Just sayin'.

Here goes...

CHARACTER AWARDS NOMINATONS
1. Best Player Character, Male
-- The most annoying, trouble-making, self-confident, easy-going character I've seen besides possibly Luca (who I guess is an NPC, not a PC?)...Rico Sanroma. Co-nominating Kokuten Chiaki with him, for...*checks* yeah, pretty much the complete opposite reasons : )
2. Best Player Character, Female
-- The one I hear most about is Suku the Demon Medic (justkiddingdon'tkillme!). Is she a player character? I fear for her crew sometimes...how they end up repaired and not in worse condition is a miracle.
3. Best PC Portrayal of Their Race
-- Dream Zero Zero. I still miss the character and her player. Della seriously should be at least a co-Faction Manager of the Freespacers, if not the FM.
4. Best Display of Occupational Skill
-- Tweak, who at various times has demonstrated that she is undeniably an engineer at heart.
5. Most Charismatic PC
6. Most Interesting PC
-- Knowing more about my own PCs than any others definitely makes me biased here. Nel, though, for her potential.
7. Most Misunderstood PC
-- Morris. Just in the last episode alone, how many times were that guy's intentions or meanings mistaken? At least two times stick out in my mind, but there were definitely more.
8. Most Quirky PC
-- Morris, Nel, and Tweak. Everyone has their quirks, but those three have them in spades.
9. Most Original PC
-- Dream.
10. Most Deviant PC
-- Shadow.
11. Most Badass PC
-- Silic. That guy just keeps going, even though every time I hear about him, he sounds like he's the universe's punching bag.
12. Most Influential PC
13. Most Underestimated PC
-- Lenwe. He went from being a slave to running a sizable operation. Also, Carina. She's a kid, but she is going to be something important, judging by the way she's growing up.
14. Best Politician
15. Best Strategist
16. Best Seductress
17. Best Combatant
18. Best Good PC
19. Best Evil PC
20. Best Couple PC
-- Again, very biased: Tweak and Kokuten.
21. Most Unlikely Couple

NON-PLAYER CHARACTER AWARDS

22. Best Non-Player Character, Male
23. Best Non-Player Character, Female
24. Best NPC Portrayal of Their Race
-- Melisson.
25. Best Display of Occupational Skill By An NPC
26. Most Charismatic NPC
-- Robert Davis. The guy was voted the first leader of the DIoN for a reason, but it didn't hurt that he carried himself well, but also got along well with children (*remembers Carina's meeting with Davis*).
27. Most Interesting NPC
-- Kess. There's something going on there, but I can't seem to find time in-character to dig it up.
28. Most Misunderstood NPC
-- Melisson.
29. Most Quirky NPC
-- Lady Mistwalker.
30. Most Original NPC
-- The giant larval Muck Shambler from [Episode 2] Little Problems.
31. Most Deviant NPC
32. Most Badass NPC
33. Most Influencial NPC
--Ketsurui Yui. She still is a driving force in Yamataian and galactic policy even if she is no longer a PC.
34. Most Underestimated NPC
35. Best Politician NPC
-- Davis again. He had the calm and thought to handle interfactional relations while his nation was still young.
36. Best Strategist NPC
37. Best Seductress NPC
38. Best Combatant NPC
-- Captain Bell 2.0 was a challenge to fight. The fact that she was straight-up insane was just as much a detriment to her as it was an asset, though.
39. Best Good NPC
-- Troy. Couldn't think of anyone in particular that stood out, so I figured I'd fit her in the running somewhere : ) Not saying everyone is bad, just that they're all about the same level.
40. Best Evil NPC
-- Melisson. I haven't even read her storyline, but I've read her wiki and she fits the bill. Her reputation precedes her.
41. Best NPC Couple
-- George and Lenny. Unless you mean romantic couple, in which case...I got nothin'.

42. Friendliest Staff Member

46. Most Active Staff Member
47. Best Editor
-- Moonman's JP Editing Guide is still on my hard drive : )
48. Most Involving Game Master
-- Aendri and Jimmy are trying with the current Fort Ready class, and I think they're doing pretty well keeping everyone involved.
49. Most Inspiring Game Master
-- I've stuck with Moonman longer than any other.
50. Most Descriptive Game Master
51. Most Active Game Master

56. Best Location
-- In terms of originality...The Viscous Chicken. In terms of "I'd like to be there"...probably Neo Kohana. For the moment, it seems pretty safe.
57. Best Starship
-- I'm still partial toward the Traveler-class transport. As close to a Firefly-class as I could manage in this setting.
58. Best Planet
-- Neo Kohana, for the reason posted above.
59. Most Useful Item
Agreeing with Jimmy: A Towel. Beyond that: KINESIS : P Imagine that, though...a length of fabric is being rated beyond a nano-scale system that could create one.

67. Best One-Liner Post
68. Best Death Scene

69. Best Combat Scene
--
70. Best Love Scene
71. Most Humorous Scene
-- Morris' big misunderstanding moment (also nominated below).
72. Most Disturbing Scene
-- Of all? Probably something involving Shadow's Horrors. I never quite made it through that story arc. The worst I've been personally involved in was blowing up Tweak's hand with a grappling hook in "That Sinking Feeling" (see the following posts in the next link).
73. Best "Uh Oh" Moment
-- Bell doesn't quite reach minimum safe distance.
[Episode 8] That Sinking Feeling said:
As Tweak bounded away, Bell was also quick to recover. The Unique turned her slightly dented helmet back upwards and shot out her arm to grasp a hold of Tweak, missing by inches as the neko fled. With her targets heading towards the unfinished section of the room, Bell rose to a kneeling position and gritted her teeth back into a grin, poising herself to continue pursuit. As the Unique Captain pushed off with her good leg, however, she stumbled. Bell looked back at her leg with a strange stare, as though unable to contemplate why her leg wouldn't operate at full function aside from the obvious wound she had sustained earlier.

Bell brought her attention back as she watched Tweak pull something out of the server node in the center of the room. She couldn't help but let out a short laugh as she attempted to rise again. Bell managed to make it a few feet away from her small cluster of explosives before looking back at them, her laugh withering back into short bursts as her chest heaved with her breaths. The woman then glanced back as she watched Tweak and Claire aim to escape the explosion, muttering a single curse under her breath before the seven disk-like explosives detonated in unison.
-- Also, probably more deserving, Morris' big misunderstanding moment. (Read that entire page. He faceplants.)

She shook her head...that wasn't important right now. What had she wanted to talk to Kess about? Tears started forming in her eyes again, but she managed to keep them back. "I-I-I'm s-sorry. I j-just wanted t-t-to ask you...did I do well? On t-t-the mission. Did I do it right?" The neko glanced up at Kess from under the fringe of hair that protruded from beneath the hat. She'll be honest...Dream would be too, but she'd try to cover anything wrong with a good word...but I need to know the truth. Did I do it right?

At first, Kess looked like she might just explode from anger, her cheeks wracking themselves thin as she pressed her lips into a scowl. The Savtech held it in, however, visibly swallowing away her rage in order to answer the teary-eyed security neko. In the end, Kess found that she couldn’t answer Tweak…not right away. “…why the hell are you crying,” Kess said under her breath, crossing her arms and looking away from Tweak’s pitiful form…not that she was looking very well herself.

Why was she crying? Tweak swallowed. How could she say anything without chancing someone hearing her? As far as she could see or hear, no one was. But..."I found out someth-thing today that I wish I didn't. But I don't know if I want to forget it. If I should f-f-forget it." She looked up at Kess again. The projected image looked so tired...Tweak was tempted to ask what was wrong, to ask if she was bothering Kess. But she was scared that the answer might be yes, and she needed her previous question answered first.

“Yes, I know about the nekos,” Kess stated blankly. She paused for a moment after that, thinking off in her distant, Savtech-only world, not able to bring herself to look back at Tweak for the duration. “…it’s good to remember your successes…and your failures. That way you know to avoid repeating them.”

Tweak closed her eyes tightly. No, that wasn't what she was asking! "No, no..." She shook hear head. Frustration started building as she couldn't seem to figure out how to say what she wanted to. And why was Kess looking away? "Two different questions!" Were they? She was concerned over her performance in the mission because the nekos were stupid. Even though tactically they weren't stupid...not exactly. "They were programmed! I was programmed. I had to be." Tweak shook her head again. "Just look at me and tell me: Did I do well?" Her voice was getting louder the longer she spoke, but only in the sense that by the time the neko finished she was back at normal speaking volume after starting at a whisper.

”P…Programmed?” Kess snapped her stare back to Tweak, her face slowly contorting into a bizarre mixture of seething anger and sadness not exhibited before. “You think you have it bad? Huh?! Why don’t you try being born as a box, built to serve others and only able to talk to others through a volumetric screen! How’s that for goddamned programmed?!”

Kess’ image immediately splintered off, disappearing before Tweak and leaving her alone in the hallway.

75. Most Realistic Military Scene
76. Best Thread Title
-- The Epic Tale of Man and Toilet, by Doc Tomoe in the Cluster forum. (Subject matter: Not so epic.)
80. Most Historic RP Thread
The Genocide threads, specifically the thread that described the attacks on the Great Lighthouse. Now, hear me out...
Strictly speaking, from an objective standpoint, that thread and associated threads, are one of the most historically significant recent events (even if it has been nearly four years) because those attacks changed the entire course of Freespacer history, as well as their view of galactic politics. For good or bad, especially depending on the point of view you approach the whole incident from, the fallout from this incident affected nearly ever faction in the setting even today, many characters, and even had ripples OOCly, so there is much to say that the thread and the threads related to it are historically significant to the site.

Also, I'm not certain how Silic's name ended up in half of his categories. :-\
