I was surprised to learn that Star Army now has active Dutch roleplayers now (who just did this JP) so this is a suggestion to figure out how to add Dutch localization for Star Army.

The basic plan would be:;
  • Add language pack to the forum
  • Add language pack to the wiki
  • Add translation support to the wiki
  • Add automatic translation to the wiki, using either ChatGPT API or DeepL API, where existing wiki pages would be mirrored in other languages.
Doing the above would also allow us to easily other languages like Spanish in the future.

From different articles on the wiki:
This is an English-language server. Content which the moderators are unable to read will be deleted.
This wiki's language is English (United States). American spellings are preferred.
JP Tips: Do your best to use English (US) spelling.

I like that we don't stray outside of this wheelhouse (and language). It means we're not stretched too thin and everyone joining does so knowing we're writing in English and therefore can understand what everyone else is writing. We have a lot of ESL writers on the site that are strong and capable in the English language and even say that writing and reading in English on SARP helps build their skills in the language. Let's continue to do what we're good at the way we've been doing it.

I don't mind translating the JPs to English but thanks for this Wes.

Adding this won't stop other from challenging their English skills. But I can see this helping with those that want to engage but don't have the strongest command of the English language natively. So long as they know official business is done in English (like most countries with an official language).

I think it is a wonderful idea to make Star Army more inclusive!

Might be interesting. We can explore the language barrier issue if we do suddenly get a bunch of native-only speaking members but tbh I don't see it being a real big issue since when I think of the dutch Im not often struck with the companion thought of knowing a lot or ever hearing about them bordering on RP and this kind of writing as being overtly popular more than it is anywhere else..

Plus in my experience, while there are people who speak only one language out there, the rest of the world (especially Europe and the nordic countries) often have a staggering amount of english second-language speakers. And while this is a predominately english-speaking community we have kind of hampered its potential for growth in these times by continuing to narrow down who we allow in.

Join an Arma 2 group sometime and the amount of native finns and swedes for example in those groups would be noticeable!
