Name: Arild Bard

Species: Yamataian
Gender: Male
Age: 45

Family: All dead in the plague.

Faction: Star Army of Yamatai
Occupation: Soldier.
Rank: Taisa
Current Assignment: None.

Physical Characteristics

Height: 6 feet 2 inches
Weight: 180 lb.
Measurement (Waist): 37 inches

Build and Skin Colour: Arild is a solidly built man with fair skin.
Face and Eye Colour: Hard, chiseled face with stern granite grey eyes.
Hair colour and Style: Grey hair with white streaks, close cropped.

Distinguishing Features: A single Norse rune on his upper left arm.

Psychological Characteristics

Personality: Arild is a very stern man, demanding respect and obedience; he expects his orders to be obeyed, and to be obeyed straight away. However he is not an unreasonable man and will listen to some-one's opinions and/or objections, if done in a polite manner, but insubordination infuriates him. He never loses his temper, but regards things in a cool, calculating fashion, without bringing emotion into it, planning in a clinical and surgical manner. He is not completely without emotion but he does not befriend easily: he lost too many people in the plague for friendship and joviality to come easily to him. However, what friends he has he treasures dearly and will do all he can to help them. A very ordered man, disorganisation inspires much disgruntlement from him.

Before his death he had a significant personality change as the impact of his 'failed' tenure of the Destiny hit him. He became less strict and more depressed, taking to drinking when off duty. He generally became far more approachable and friendly after being 'knocked off his perch' so to speak. It has yet to be seen at what stage his personality will be when (and if) it is recovered through ST backup.

Likes: Order, tactical games, cats, the Empire.
Dislikes: Disorder, anarchy, Elysians, waste, disobedience
Goals: Arild has few goals left. He has lived a long life in his eyes, and this assignment is the peak of his career. Currently his Goal is to explore space, expand the Yamataian Empire, and to keep his ship safe.

History

Arild was born 11 years before the founding of the Star Empire, to one of the few descendants of the Nordic colonists. He had only just joined what was the Space Military, and was on and extended mission, when the plague killed almost all of the people on the planet died. All of the people he had known, his family and friends, where dead. With this as a motivation he threw himself into the Elysian war, and climbed up the ranks, noted by his superiors for his cool efficiency.

Arild led a intense, but not glamorous career, fighting in countless battle through the various offences against the Elysians, always with his coolness, although a smile was known to grace the corners of his mouth after the destruction of an Elysian ship. In an unfortunate accident on one of his ships, his body was irreparably damaged, and he requested the transfer into a Yamataian body. He had made himself known throughout the wars, and when the position of being the captain of the Destiny became open, he applied for it, and through single-minded devotion managed to get the position.

Only a few days after being made the Captain of the Destiny he lost the role. Just as the ship was setting out to explore the unknown there was enormous rebellion of the primarily Nepleslian colonists who took over the ship and wrested control of it from Arild. Arild found himself cast off from his great position and instead placed on a Mersina class vessel with a mere sixteen crew. Due partially to lack of precise orders and lack of motivation in his part the 'Confidence' (a name he and the crew found ironic) floundered and he was reassigned, shortly after aiding the 5th fleet with a mutiny in which the Confidence found itself duelling against the far more powerful Irim, with the remaining crew being placed onto the Mikomi.

Arild meanwhile was assigned a Sakura class gunship named the 'Valiant', with a good crew and an NH-18 experimental weapon. Showing renewed enthesiasm over his role he disabled a Mishhu vessel, boarding it with a small team before releasing the NH-18. While coming under heavy fire and almost losing a member of his crew the NH-18 was critical success - before returning to its stasis-coffin it killed every Mishhu on the vessel. On the vessel the crew found a single surviving captive - an alien of unknown race who called himself of the 'Seelie'.

The Valiant decided to investigate the Mishhu raids on the Seelie's planet and upon arriving in system destroyed several Mishhu ships before sending most of the crew down on an away mission to investigate the Mishhu presence on the planet. Unfortunately while engaged in a running firefight with Mishhu on the surface the Valiant came under attack in orbit and was forced to retreat. The Valiant's crew were forced to take refuge in a cave system, eventually finding their way to the leader of a Seelie clan - also hiding in caves. Past this what happened is not known - but the entire crew was killed.

Now it is to be seen whether the Star Army of Yamatai will see the need to bring him back from one of his ST backups.

Skills:

Mathematics: Arild was never great at maths, but received basic mathematics training, to including up to algebra and trigonometry.

Knowledge: Arild has learned about the history of the Star Army and the Yamatai Star Empire, and has been around for most of it, and knows the past of his nation well. He keeps abreast of the current laws of the Yamatai Star Empire.

Starship Operations: Over the years Arildis has found it necessary to take over a number of positions if needed, and can get himself by succesfuly with navigating, being at the helm, and even the rudiments of astrometrics. He can get his ships from place to place safely.

Fighting and Physical: Most of Arilds career has been spent aboard a ship, although he has received hand-to-hand combat training, and has been studying it as an amateur for most of his life. He is able to fight in both Yamatai-like conditions and zero-gravity, and can use a variety of weapons with some degree of proficiency. Among other things he is trained in the use of energy pistols, energy rifles, grenades, knives and some power armour. He has always been in excellent physical condition for his age, fighting old age by keeping at peak condition even when in a human body, and his new body is without the problems that age had inflicted.

Communication: Arild is familiar with basic radio transmissions and can make transmissions to and receive transmissions from other characters through headsets, starship, power armour and shuttles in both combat and non-combat situations. He is fluent in English, a dialect of Norse, and through his long affiliation with Nekovalkyria, can make himself understood in Japanese. He can speak and write both correctly and efficiently in English and Nordic and can write reports, fill forms, issue orders under fire, etc. Due to his new Yamataian body he is now telepathic

Information Technology: Arild character is capable of operating any computer system that uses the Kessaku OS, found on all Star Army starships. He is proficient in entering and/or searching for information. He isn't an expert with computers, but his long career means he is proficient at least.

Leadership: Arild is a natural leader. His quiet yet strong voice is charismatic, and he inspires obedience. He is well versed in giving ‘pep talks', can orate to a good degree and is extremely good at commanding his ship and is able to recognise ambush points, create effective combat strategies and tactics, and analyse intelligence information. His personal charisma also leads him well to diplomacy.

Character approved. No problems.

I guess if you're the GM, or if they said that you could make a captain character, it's all right, but if that's not the case the history's terrible. It's cliche and makes the character into a war hero.

This bio is in severe need of updating.

In your history section.

"eventually finding their way to the leader of a a Seelie leader"

Fix that.
