Planet Tami - Edge of Origin's Industrial Complex - Early Morning

It had only been a few minutes since the system's star cast its light on that side of the planet. The Industrial complex looked abandoned, but mostly intact despite being invaded by the NMX and then retaken by the Yamataians. Most of the buildings were standing and looking abandoned, and despite the battle damage that they showed their robustness kept them upright. Despite this, a more careful observer would notice that the place was anything but; signs of recent occupation were visible there by the trained eye as the Iron Ferret did a brief pass over the complex, Trash had been neatly piled outside the buildings, and pathways were discernible amongst the rubble.

The place looked much more utilitarian than the one they had been on Delsauria, and it was also significantly bigger. The buildings were squatter and more square, with little or no windows and packed tightly, but large enough to allow the vehicles to transport their cargo to a medium-sized landing pad on the middle of it. The pad itself was a hexagon surface suspended a good thirty feet off the ground (10 meters) by the massive metal struts that supported it, with two large cargo elevators on opposite sides of it. The elevators connected to the landing area by a short bridge, allowing for both vehicles and personnel to access the pad. The surface area easily allowed for a few Iron Ferrets to dock on it, despite one part of it having collapsed below, but the ship just flew onwards and towards one of the edges of the complex.

The small Jinsoku cleared off the complex, flying over the trees as it started slowing down. It eventually stopped over a clearing that was barely large enough to contain it, and at a reasonable distance of the place they were supposed to be visiting. The ship's engines humm quietened down a few octaves, and the hull stopped vibrating as it touched down on the hard dirt of the forest.

"We're here, folks. I'll keep the Iron Ferret nearby in case you need some firepower, but I would rather not attract any attention from the cats by causing too much noise," came Jacob's voice on the comms, and the Iron Ferret's loading ramp slid open to reveal the terrain of the forest outside to the bounty hunters that were waiting on the main halway. If it wasn't for the ship's inertia dampeners, they would've been thrown off their feet by the maneuver. As soon as it opened, the humidity from the forest started creeping inside the ship, coating the surface of the walls and floor with droplets of water.

Despite its engines being idling, the Jinsoku was anything but. The point defense turrets veered left and right as Jacob and Helric looked for any target that would present themselves from their spot on the ship's bridge. "Folks, the complex is half a click to your east. Get in there and try to secure that LZ for us, so I can pick you up if we need to leave in a hurry," The Iron Ferret's pilot said.

Outside, the forest was surprisingly quiet, there were no sounds of wildlife as someone could expect from that kind of terrain and vegetation. The trees were sparsely separated fom each other, which also wouldn't give the bounty hunters any trouble of moving on foot towards their objective.

Iron Ferret Interior, just inside the loading ramp

The brunette new recruit stood amongst the other bounty hunters, steadying herself with a hand on the adjacent bulkhead against the vibrations and jerking motions of the ship as it came to a low hover above the ground and set down. She stood much shorter than most of the others, and were it not for her exposed feminine (if rather intimidating) facial features and long, tightly-pulled-back ponytail tucked into the back of her collar, the bulky, formidable looking brown-and-green suit of armor she wore concealed most of her distinguishing features as a woman. Clasped on a set of hooks to her back, a long rifle crisscrossed from her hip to the opposite shoulder at a diagonal, and clinging to her utility belt was a silver pistol, the hilt of a knuckle-guarded combat knife, and several spare magazines of ammunition. The intense, metallic gray eyes set beneath thin and upswept eyebrows scanned the narrow view of the outside that she had as the ramp opened with a piercing, emotionless stare, panning back and forth slowly while she waited for the dustoff order from the team's leader.

Tannozako stood, near the ramp of the Iron Ferret, looking out over the derelict Origin facility. It was a sad sight to see, but Tannozako had no connection to the facility; It had been abandoned before she was created, or her model even designed. She was wearing a Green tank top, a pair of short denim shorts, and a pair of hiking boots. Stuffed in her back pockets, very obvious because of the less then entirely modest nature of the clothing, were her two small pistols, though, in her right hand she carried a narrow black case, her usual suitcase stowed somewhere on the ship for safekeeping. She had yet to reveal the contents of the case, but held it close as if it were very valuable or useful.

Liam stood by the other hunters on the ramp of the Iron Ferret. He was wearing his leather jacket and had his pistol in it's concealed holster. Under his jacket, he wore his blue t-shirt, visor, cargo pants and combat boots. He fiddled with his visor's electronics as he waited for the order to move out.

Irene looked like a SWAT reject - Urban camo BDUs under her Everyday armor and boots that were sold with buzzwords, like "used by a famous special forces unit!" or with some unpronounceable material lining the soles, supposedly for comfort. Her beloved Model 79 was strapped to her thigh. This time, she had her IBR strapped to her back, alongside the Room Cleaner. If it was uncomfortable (actually, it kinda was), it didn't show - opting to gaze out at the slum, her gaze neutral.

Outside the Iron Ferret's Loading Ramp

It wasn't long before Helric unstrapped himself from the cockpit and joined the other hunters at the bottom of the ramp, crushing dry leaves and branches under the heavy boots that he wore. He was wearing the usual duster over the Styrling Everyday vest., with baggy pants below that, supported by a simple rigger's belt. The belt on his waistline brimmed with the .45 pistol's holster and several ammo pouches, while a matte black rifle hung in front of his chest almost vertically from a 1-point-sling. All in all, he seemed to have completely shrugged off the injuries he had received on Delsauria. "Jacob thought I would do more good here," he said in a friendly manner as if he owned them some sort of explanation, and then shrugged.

Being so close after the dawn of the system's star, the air in the forest was still chilly, and visibility was impaired because of the mist caused by the moisture that still clung to the air, added with the fraction of the sunlight that seeped through the thick canopy overhead. To further the gloomy nature of the forest was also the fact that, besides the ship's idling engine, the entire place was silent, unlike someone would expect. This fact seemingly was not unnoticed by Helric, who squinted as he looked around the area, hefting the assault rifle.

"Come on, no sense in standing around here. Stay alert," he said, motioning with his left hand for them to follow.

Without hesitation, Tannozako followed behind Helric. She seemed almost nonchalant, seeming to be entirely unworried. The case in her hand swung gently, synching with her stride as she went. The Bounty hunter scanned her surroundings, definitely noticing the lack of sounds aside from the Iron Ferret itself. perhaps the ship had scared off the wildlife, but some creatures were known not to care, especially near some place that had once been a hub of noise and chaos such as the abandoned factory.

Of course, it had been a while since said facility had been in use.

Upon hearing the order to follow, Kira lifted her suit's helmet over her head and lowered it onto the collar, giving it a single twist to lock it in place. A few wireframe images materialized in her field of vision as the suit's HUD automatically ran its diagnostics, and quickly displayed "OK" in multiple locations before the images vanished, replaced by minimalistic status displays around the periphery of her field of view. Reaching over her shoulder, she unslung the rifle from her back and cradled it against her shoulder, following in step behind Helric, looking around at the surrounding misty forest as they descended to the ground. The entire scene was unsettling to say the least; a wooded area shrouded in fog, not a sound to be heard, even the planet's sunlight unable to effectively pierce through the gloom. While she maintained her all-business facade, deep down she was wondering what she'd gotten herself into. Even though nothing had actually happened yet, she couldn't shake the feeling that her time with the NPF in no way could have prepared her for what she dreaded might be hiding beyond the mist.

"Any idea what we might be up against?" she asked through her suit's voice modulator, giving her normally rich, pleasant alto voice a bit of a harsh mechanical edge.

Irene fought off the urge to shudder as the full force of the forest's chill pierced her fatigues, keeping an even pace behind the group, IBR in her hands. She felt much more at home with the stench and sounds of Funky City, but a job was a job, and it was high time her IBR got some love, anyway.

Besides, it'd just be like fighting gangsters through city fog on Nepelsia, except it didn't smell.

Outside Origin Complex - Forest

The Rifleman turned his head sideways to look at Kira and shrugged. "They wouldn't send us here if they didn't expect trouble," he said, panning his rifle left and right as he turned to face the forest. "Just remember that the squids owned this place for some a while before the cats kicked them out. Now, watch your flanks" he added, making a circling motion over his head and continuing to move on. Every couple of steps would bring the sound of dry branches or leaves being crushed underfoot, which was only amplified by the voidness of sound that they found themselves in. Despite the carefulness, Helric still managed to move at a reasonable pace, making a straight course towards the complex when they didn't have to detour around a thick cluster of trees.

The first sign of trouble occurred when the perimeter wall was visible.

Helric raised a closed fist sharply, sinking down to a crouch after the loud sound of a branch eachoed throughout the forest they were in. It wasn't the same one as when they broke the thin ones underfoot, but something much thicker, which only made him wonder the mass of the thing that caused it. "Eyes open," he said on the comms, signaling for the person on the rear to go ahead as he moved behind a tree, pointing with two fingers towards where the noise had come from.

The moment Helric's fist commanded them to pause, Kira reacted immediately, following his lead and dropping into a low squat of her own, her rifle butt cradled firmly in her shoulder. Moving as silently as she could to the nearest tree for cover, several paces away from Helric, she lifted the barrel and aimed around the trunk in the direction of the sound. With a steady, practiced motion, she switched on the multi-spectrum scope atop her weapon and peered through it the best she could through her helmet's faceplate, scanning slowly through the different EM bands for any sign of company. She kept her breathing slow and quiet, even though it was already muted by her suit, more in order to keep her wits about her and her hands steady than out of any hope of making herself any less noticable. Inside, her worry was growing.

Tannozako crouched down, putting herself near a tree for cover, and opened the black case. Inside it was a Civilian Type 33 Rifle, with the more gray body and wooden stock and grips. The case featured all three modules and a pair of magazines, as well as some extra boxes of bullets. Swiftly, Tannozako removed the A module that was on the rifle and switched it to the long-range B module, closing the case and readying the rifle for use.

Outside Origin Complex - Forest

There was a brown blur of movement as something burst out from its hiding spot behind the trunk, going straight at Kira and then veering to the side once it spotted her, it was clear to see by then that it had been just a deer; further down, Helric stared down the sights of his rifle, following it. He couldn't help but let out a sigh, slowly taking his finger off the trigger, he could feel himself 'deflate' once he saw that it had been nothing. "God damn," he said over the comms after not finding anything witty to say, lowering his weapon soon afterwards. "Let's keep moving," he added, moving out of his spot to continue leading the way towards the tall perimeter wall.

The complex's wall had been built to keep the wildlife and vegetation away, but after it had switched owners two times, the latter was slowly reclaiming it. Several vines snaked along the grey surface of the wall, almost reaching the top, while several cracks and impact craters dotted what wasn't covered by the vines. Even though the walls were quite tall, almost fifteen feet in height, the group could still see the hexagonal plate of the landing pad over it and further down inside the complex. There wasn't any entrance visible from where they were, since they had approached from the concealment of the forest, but as soon as they arrived there Helric was already crouching down and rummaging through his pack.

"Watch my back while I get this ready," the bounty hunter said, letting the assault rifle hang by its strap against his side.

A chopped-off squeak came from Kira's direction as she jumped, started at the sudden appearance of the animal, and reflexively squeezed the trigger on her rifle to within a fraction of an inch of firing before she caught herself. As the animal darted away, she exhaled sharply, her heart racing and pounding hard in her chest so hard that she could feel it in her temples and behind her eyes. "Shit," she muttered under her breath, lowering the rifle slightly and silently shaking her head at herself for being so easily startled. She thought that her years in law enforcement would have adequately prepared her for such a situation, but for some reason this kind of tension was completely different than what she was used to. She felt like a skittish rookie all over again. Once she had collected her nerves, she obediently rose from her hiding place, keeping her rifle butt pressed against her shoulder as she followed Helric, ready to raise it again at a moment's notice.

As she approached the complex in formation with the others, she craned her neck up to peer at the wall surrounding the landing pad. Given that she had been spooked by a deer of all things, now she wasn't sure if she was ready to face whatever lay hidden back there. But there was nothing to be done about that now, and she wasn't about to shirk her duties because of butterflies in her tummy. Helric's command snapped her out of her ruminations, and with a smart nod she quickly moved with a purpose past him across the uneven ground, hopping over an outcropping just next to the wall. Squatting down below the rock and pressing herself as low as she could so that she was concealed behind the rocks, she propped the barrel of her weapon on a convenient notch in the stone cover and settled in, watching one of Helric's flanks for any threats while he did whatever it was he was doing.

Tannozako was something analagous to relieved when the sound turned out to only be a deer. Truth be told, she hadn't had much experience on planets or anywhere with proper wilderness, and so found the reature fascinating as it streaked by, scared out of its wits more than anything else. Briefly the Mimicom followed it with her eyes before turning back and following Helric to the wall. She had by now strapped the case around her back and was carrying the rifle at ease, confident that she would be able to bring it to bear in time if her attention was needed. Silently, she watched as Helric readied himself for something, calculating whether or not she could simply jump the wall, or perhaps free-climb up some of the vines and pockmarks in the wall. After a time, she simply decided it was not worth it, and figured Helric had a better idea.

Last to exit the ship was the captain herself, who figured that she sat on her tail for far too long. She was dressed in her stylishly auburn Muur armour and held a Styrling auto 12 in her hands. On her belt there was another mag for the shotgun, 10 mm cover ops pistol and her chain'knife. Just to make sure, she also had her recurve bow over her back along with quiver full of arrows. Just in case she needed to be really silent.

Kendra headed on to catch up with the rest of the group. "Helric I will reach you guys in a bit," Kendra said in her comms to the man. "You keep leading, I will hang back a bit and cover you guys."

Origin Complex

In a few moments, the bounty hunter had tied one end of the rope against a 4-point grappling hook. Helric got back on his feet, spinning the contraption he just made and after a few moments threw it over the concrete wall, watching as it disappeared over it. There was a barely audible clang from the other side as metal collided against concrete, prompting him to pull at the rope until it was stretched taut. He gave it a few tugs to make sure that the four-pointed hook was firmly lodged against the concrete before he started to climb, each feet alternating against the slight slope of the wall as he hoisted himself up.

Soon, Helric was on top of the wall, easily crouching on the top of it, and motioned for the other bounty hunters to follow before going down. while the slope was too steep to climb without assistance, it made it easy to go down as he simply slid along it, landing on the cracked surface inside the walls.

What greeted him, and the bounty hunters that followed was the complete state of disrepair that the facility was in; although most of the buildings were still standing, barely all of them had their walls collapsed, leaving their ground floors open to the elements. The concrete floor was pitted and cracked, and a 'blanket' of dry leaves covered it, cut off in some places in what could only be pathways formed by too much movement. "We're definitely not alone here," Helric said on the comms, already with his rifle at the ready as he made way for the other hunters. He briefly scanned the buildings, then set his eye on the landing pad.

"Let's secure that LZ in case we need to bail out quickly," he said once everyone had arrived, pointing towards the pad.

Outside the iron Ferret

"Understood, Kendra. Everything seems clear so far," Helric's answer came through the radio. True to his word, the clearing surrounding the Iron Ferret seemed very quiet, eerily so as there weren't even the smallest signs of the local fauna, while a thin mist wafted out from the open cargo ramp of the small freighter. It seemed that only the empty forest stared back at the Separa'Shan.

Origin Complex - Outer Wall

Slinging her rifle onto her back again, Kira rose to her feet and moved quickly to the rope that Helric had left. Craning her helmeted head upwards, she swallowed the lump in her throat as she gazed at how high the wall looked from down here, and considered the fact that a single slip could cost her her legs, or even her life. Steeling her nerves, she grabbed hold of the cable with both of her hands, and took a deep breath as she placed the sole of one of her boots against the wall. With a grunt, she hoisted herself up, testing the security of the hook's hold on the other side, and began to scale the wall as quickly as she dared to go.

As her head peeked over the top, she scanned the damaged structures spread out beyond the wall, then swung one of her legs up and over the edge, straining slightly with the effort, and rolled over it. Climbing to her feet in a squatting position, she remained there for a moment, not daring to look behind her at the precipitous drop inches from her heels. Down the steep slope in front of her, she spotted Helric at the bottom, his rifle shouldered and scanning the area for threats. Knowing that the next person would be right behind her, she decided not to linger, and turned her foot sideways as she took one cautious step forward onto the slope, easing her weight onto it. When she didn't slip, she shuffled sideways gradually, easing her way down the sharp incline.

She was beginning to gain confidence in her footing by the time she made it just a bit further than a third of the way down the slope, when her next step didn't seem to grip the ground properly, and it slipped from beneath her. Flailing her arms in a desperate attempt to regain her balance, she teetered for a second before she went down onto her backside with a quiet yelp, sliding clumsily the rest of the way down.

Thankfully, she didn't tumble or roll, and simply skidded to a stop once she reached the bottom as if she had been riding a sled the majority of the way, her legs kicked out in front of her. She didn't realize she had held her breath when she pinched off the surprised shriek, and only exhaled in stark relief when her head started to pound from the momentary buildup of carbon dioxide. "Ugh," she muttered, picking herself up gingerly, looking over her shoulders at her backside the best she could, brushing the dirt and grit from her buttocks. Sheepishly she cleared her throat and trotted up to Helric, swinging her rifle back around to her shoulder once more, and nodded her understanding of their next task, hoping no one would comment on her buffoonery.

As quickly as she could, she scanned the buildings surrounding the landing pad for the best sniper perch she could safely get to.

Outside the iron Ferret

"All right, I am heading out to catch up with you guys," Kendra reported back. Hey eyes watched the surrounding forest and it gave her a bit of unease, especially since she did not hear any animals. Not even birds. Still this was not exactly normal planet after all. Kendra narrowed her eyes and then put her shotgun on the sling and took her bow in her hands. She wanted to be silent for now. The snake-women drow a single broad-head arrow and held it in her free hands ready to shoot anything that could attack her. With that she headed to catch up with rest of the group.

Origin Complex - Inside

Helric turned around, staring at Kira with a puzzled expression. The bounty hunter eventually stood up once everyone had crossed, still keeping his rifle at a ready-low stance and his finger off the trigger. "Alright, let's move out," he said at last, raising a finger and making a circular motion with it about his head. The other bounty hunters formed a makeshift wedge around him, leaving Kira to pick a spot to climb onto.

The tightly packed nature of the buildings made it hard for her to pick a single spot that would overlook the entire way to the landign pad, although the tallest one -a completely ruined and decrepit office building- had a set of external fire escape ladders that could give her the quickest way to the top. It wouldn't allow the bounty hunter to cover the landing plate on top of the pad, but it would allow her to overlook a good chunk of the way there. As her mind digested that information, Helric's distance to her increased.

"Radio check every few minutes, people," Helric said as if on cue, seemingly unfazed in leaving Kira behind.

Origin Complex - Outside

Kendra's movement went by safely, but not without incident as soon as the Iron Ferret disappeared from her view. As the Separa'Shan slithered through the forest, she could pick up sounds of something crushing the dry leaves that coated the forest floor underneath, as well as branches breaking; the sounds seemed far away, since she couldn't make out anything within the thin fog that surrounded her, but hearing it was easier because, much like the group before, the entire forest seemed devoid of any other noise except the wind, adding to the eerie atmosphere of her surroundings.

Eventually, the half-snake woman reached the wall of the complex, with the climbing ropes stil danging down from the top of the tall wall from where Helric had left it.
