RP: 5th Fleet [Chapter One] Reinforcements

The squad was swiftly shepherded into the vehicle, though April took a position atop the armored carrier instead of within it. However, before he stepped in, Kai grabbed Fieke's armor by the arm, and flipped up his Daisy's visor, exposing a pair of concerned, questioning eyes.

"I might be mistaken, but we did not ask for you to come with us. My silence hasn't been idle, and I've been speaking to my superiors. They've decided to allow you to remain with us. Just don't get in our way, and if I tell you to evacuate, you comply immediately, or I may be forced to shoot you for interfering with our operations, understood?"

Fieke turned scarlet upon realizing that she was not in fact supposed to be where she was and all the subsequent possibilities that little revelation could have on her future employment with OriSec – after all, it wouldn't look great to receive a promotion and then immediately screw up what little duties she had. The Abwehran opened her mouth and almost started to make an awkward, stumbling attempt to in somehow explain herself when Kai just went stiff on her.

Fieke was a Nightwalker. She had been bred up by militarism and it greatly tinged her outlook on life. She had carried around a sword on her hip for almost every moment of her adult life for crying out loud. So when he threatened to shoot her if she interfered it didn't sit well at all with the young Corporal.

Screw whatever his superiors told him, he's just personally being an ass. Fieke bristled, embarrassment quickly being swallowed up by sheer bullheadedness as she violently pulled off her PA's helmet to look the Juni in the eyes.

“I really can't believe you, if that's how you feel you should just shoot me now!” Fieke yelled as she tucked her helmet safely under one arm and pulled back her other just short of having a gloved hand tap Kai on the chest. “You're surrounded by this -” The Abwehran didn't even pause to elaborate, the scene the squad had just been introduced clearly standing for itself. “- leading an undermanned squad and you want to stuff me into some kind of field journalist role? Hell, we're both even using the same rifle – I have the equipment, I was raised on training! Use what you got or go through with that schwachsinnig threat of yours”

The Abwehran rocked back on her heels and glared at Kai, muttering 'Dummkopf' under her breath as she did so.

Kai remained cool, nearly unblinking at Fieke's outburst. "I never elaborated under what circumstances I would order you to evacuate." Kai replied simply, unperturbed. He had been through enough that a Nightwalker throwing what amounted to a hissy fit did not phase him at all. He simply flipped his visor back down, the crudely painted grin concealing whatever expression he might currently have.

"If you are done yelling, would you please kindly replace your helmet and board the Personnel carrier," was all he had to say after that.

The OriSec Corporal's stupid, maniac grin was somewhat disturbing looking as she let out what was mostly likely a mix between a snarl and a chuckle and then vigorously slammed her helmet back into place. "With pleasure Ittô Juni!" Fieke's voice practically sang out as she turned and trotted towards the wheeled vehicle waiting upon the squad

The Abwehran was whistling to herself - politely within the confines of her helmet once more - obviously having heard exactly what she had wanted to hear.

If one had been able to see into Kai's helmet, they would have noticed a momentarily quirked eyebrow. But, once Fieke had boarded the APC, the Juni banged the doors shut and joined the other senior squad members on the roof. Without any further ado, aside from a few bangs on the hull to let the driver know they were ready, the vehicle started up and sped off, its wheels kicking up a cloud of dust and stones before it settled into a more tame pace, rocking and swaying as it went, jostling and bumping as it found its wheels rolling over bumps in the hastily beaten path toward the front.

Within about ten minutes, however, the vehicle slowed down once more and came to a stop as the turret atop it began firing, along with the three soldiers on top. It skidded do a halt, and the back door opened.

"Everyone, out! Cover to your left, keep low, we're going in hot!" The Juni's voice could be heard over the squad comms, and as the squad emerged, they would see their superiors already having dismounted and headed toward what was currently serving as cover- The wreck of a Yusou lay in pieces, blown in half but scattering sections large enough to hide behind around the area. A couple hundred yards away, they could see flashes of light as an unknown force assailed the squad that was currently pinned down among the wreckage.

Aside from the wreckage, and their own APC, there wasn't much around, they were on one side of a low, narrow depression with a dry stream at its bottom, and on the opposite ridge their opponents were dug in and firing as hard as they could, working to halt the Fifth's advance toward the large bubble-like city several kilometers away, which was holding its own private war against the fleet itself. Indeed, the shield-bubble was the most prominent thing anywhere nearby, but they couldn't get to it without first breaking through the forces in front.

Forces that were now throwing fire their way.

Damien was anxious as always. Combat excited and frightened him at the same time. He had learned that this feeling was normal and had accepted it. Still he was concerned about the amount of carnage they had seen on the way in. So many causalities... "Just don't become one of them" Damien told himself. As spiritual as Damien was, he wasn't in any real hurry to meet his maker.

As the transport slowed, Damien knew that they were close. He took one final deep breath and exhaled. As the ramp dropped and Damien heard the order to move, he was instantly running on instinct and training. He sprinted out the transport with his comrades, staying low and sweeping his sector. The enemy was already firing on them before they got out of the transport.

"Hell of a welcome" Damien thought as he swung around his rifle. He looked for the nearest piece of cover he could fine and lined up his rifle towards the enemy. He took a couple shots at the enemy line to cover his squad as they moved around him. "COVERING!" he said over comms as he fired his rifle. However Damien piddly fire was nothing compared to the torrent coming towards them. Still it was something and at least he wasn't going to die without firing his rifle.

Aya allowed herself to be shepherded into the Ro, doing her best to ignore the blood and hemosynth. Anzu's comment made her feel better, though, and she managed to get in a reply of "I doubt that!" as she sat down. The Neko looked questioningly outside as she caught snatches of Kai and Fieke's conversation, but she did not dare let her curiousity get the better of her.

It appeared that although the Type 34 did offer a fairly jumpy ride, it wasn't quite as bad as the Yusou they came in on (which Aya was thankful for). The ride was also a gratefully short one too, as the Ro halted and engaged the enemy.

Upon hearing the Juni's orders, Aya streaked out of the APC like a missile, hugging the ground as close as she dared without slowing herself down. Darting toward her own piece of cover, it felt to her as though time had slowed down to an almost treacle-like pace, even though things were happening much more rapidly than that. At least she had managed to get into the right spot. As she brought up her own LASR to help Damien gain some semblance of suppressive fire, she exclaimed, "I'm in position!"

So this was combat. Not some facsimile, but reality, sharp, vivid and electrifying. Aya felt scared, elated, and detached all at the same time. She didn't know how much of a difference two of them firing at the enemy would make, but hopefully it would buy everyone else some time to use a more permanent solution.

Anzu snickered to herself at the argument going on outside the transport, enjoying the free show. She quietly enjoyed the bumpy ride, only letting out an annoyed grunt when it came to a sudden halt. "So this is where all the fun is, eh?" The Neko perked up and readied herself, letting the excited newbies lead the way before popping out of the transport.

She turned to face whatever was firing at them as she hopped out of the APC, lifting her shield in front of her. Simo pulled her legs in a bit, almost curling into a ball behind the giant hunk of metal, flying herself backwards towards cover. She let her armor's 'skin' sensors guide her path, zooming her main view towards the distant enemies. Anzu fired her LASR as she zipped backwards towards the scattered wreckage, not really concerned about hitting anything in particular, just aiming towards whatever was shooting at them.

Once she'd found somewhere relatively safe to stop for a moment, she'd let her armor's sensors continue scanning to the sides and rear for a better position. Simo kept her LASR ready, but most of her attention was focused on her zoomed view, hunting for something worth aiming at.

The moment the autocannon on the squad's vehicle started to boom, attention began to shift in their direction, even as they poured out of the rear hatch and took cover.

Massed particle beam fire lanced out at the group, but the rapid staccato of fire from Damien and Aya was already starting to force the heads of their unidentified assailants down. This let Anzu move into cover with ease - only a few lances of energy were aimed at her, sharply bending away as her defensive fields swatted them aside with minimal drain. Despite the inaccuracy, her own random fire from the LASR in her hand quickly added to her squadmates' and the APC's. Craters were smashed into the earth as the 25mm gun boomed, the vehicle reversing course to pull itself out of combat - it was here to drop the squad off, not fight!

"This first encounter should be a relatively easy one," a voice remarked in their ears. Sif went on speaking, completely out of sight. "The weapons currently being massed on your position is individually known as the Impaler, a cheap, mass produced particle beam weapon." Her voice was calm and unconcerned at this point, but a hint of something else was present - amusement. "The rifle is primarily issued to unpowered infantry sporting light armor, and therefore should be the bulk of the enemy facing us," the older Nekovalkyrja pointed out to them.

"Now that you have a base of fire established, some of you may wish to attempt a classical maneuver in warfare. Moving up and to the sides of the enemy, commonly known as 'flanking'. Should it be executed properly on their position at the ridge, both a better firing angle and visual confirmation will be acquired."

From the sound of her voice, it almost felt like she gave them the faintest of smiles.

Damien knew that his training was working when they received a half compliment from Sif. The mission seemed more like a tutorial but it was good, Damien needed a refresher under actual combat conditions. This seemed like a good place to start. As Damien blinked away at the targets, he began to think about what Sif said, about moving up. That would of course, be the next logical step in their plan.

Damien squeezed off a couple more bursts and dropped below cover. Looking across the line, everyone else appeared to be staying in place. Either that didn't understand Sif "order" which was a possibility considering how passive it was. Or they simply wanted to see if someone else would go and play sniper bait before them. Even the once enthusiastic Orisec person was quiet.

"Well I suppose I'll go" Damien thought to himself as he peaked from behind cover to look across the valley. He began to plan his move and say a small outcropping on the other side of the creekbed that might give him a good vantage point. And all he had to do was get there, through the possible mines and other surprises...

Damien sighed, making up his mind he would go. "I'd like to give it a go. Some backup and cover would be appreciated..." Damien said to the group, hoping someone would tag along with him. Perhaps through nervous energy or just wanting to get it over with, Damien didn't wait for a reply. He activated his active camo system and sprinted off down the line and to the right of the enemy position, trying to hug the ground as best he could as he sprinted forward. If he could clear the creekbed without getting gunned down, he might have a chance at to his vantage point... hopefully...

Zozo nodded slowly in response when Sif declined his request to help the injured soldiers that surrounded them. He knew she was correct that the medical supplies he carried were meant for their own squad, but it wasn't like he could just easily ignore what was going on around him. He could still feel the sounds of suffering and rattles of death echoing through his heart. Thankfully, the squad's ride arrived soon after, before he could break orders and run off to tend to the wounded anyways.

The Elsyian medic kept quiet during the ride, focusing on his objectives here as a person of peace, a medic, and as a soldier. A trickle of doubt gather at the edges of his mind. Could he bring himself to kill another being, even if they were monstrous creatures hell bent on domination? How many lives would he not be able to save? Would being here truly change anything at all? He quickly turned his mind towards the memento he always kept on his person. That little reminder that she was out there, fighting for her dreams of peace. Replaying the words she had spoken to him on that day soothed his troubled thoughts. This was no longer the time to question himself, for his sake, for the universe's sake... for her sake.

When the time came to engaged the opposing forces, Zozo quickly followed after his squad, keeping his head down as they made their way for cover. Once secure in a relatively safe position, he scanned the others for any injuries before readying his weapon.

"For a peaceful future." The Elysian soldier muttered as he pulled the trigger of his gun, spraying a series of apologies towards their attackers.

"I-" Zozo stopped, unsure how to respond after Damien offered to run out and flank the
Mishhuvurthyarn. He wanted to join Damien and watch his back, however as the medic it would be better for him to stay with the majority of the squad.

Anzu stowed her shield and LASR almost immediately upon reaching cover. Still zoomed in on the distant enemy, head swiveling as she tried to get a good look at them, she began preparing her coilgun. The bazooka was just the right tool for this job. Extending and loading it took a few moments, actions accomplished mechanically, long barrel resting atop the huge chunk of warped metal Simo was using as cover.

"Covering fire, coming up!" she happily chirped over communications to the group, as her sensors kept her alerted to where Damien was sneaking off to. A magazine of frangible rounds was loaded, as Anzu picked out a spot producing a good amount of enemy fire. "Nobody's going to be paying you any attention in just a second here..." She giggled as she fired over the creekbed and trench, hoping she'd land this first test shot right in a nest of squids. Simo probably wasn't quite that lucky, preparing to dig more firmly into cover if her first shot got her a bit too much attention, even as she considered where to aim a second shot.

“We're right behind you Yamatai.” Fieke told Damien without hesitation as she started to follow the charging rifleman who had taken the initiative. As she moved up past the rest of the group the Abwehran slipped one hand away from her weapon and rapped her knuckles against the shoulder of Zozo's PA. “C'mon then yah daredevil, no time for second guesses out here! Besides -” After tapping the Elysian, Fieke gestured with her free hand for him to go grab Aya too before returning her grip fully towards controlling her ASGR. “- it takes more than two to put the real terror into getting flanked! The other squad will make sure our marksman doesn't end up anywhere she wouldn't want to be.”

Finished with that the OriSec Corporal picked up her pace and lowered her profile more as she left the cover of the wreckage and was out in the open behind Damien. As Fieke got a better eye full of the entire stretch of trench she and the Yamataian were going to outmaneuver the Abwehran let out a low, long whistle and really hoped the others took her advice about coming to help out – or really even that the Elysian had understood her intent when she had pointed out Aya to him without actually saying a word of what she had meant.

With such worrisome but never-the-less fruitless thoughts in her head Fieke pushed more speed into her strides – making herself a more visible target in the act – in order to catch up with Damien so there would be at least two of them to deal with whatever response the squids' troopers had thought up for them.

Their rifles kicked in their hands as the little battle raged on.

Despite their advanced optics, both Zozo and Anzu could only see brief glimpses of the enemys' heads and strobe flashes as their energy weapons fired back in return. Neither of the duo could get a good, accurate shot in considering the somewhat longer bursts they were firing, but it did what they were aiming to do. Suppress. April and Kai added to their fire, further shoving the enemy into their trenches and bringing the pressure off of the beleaguered squad they came to save. Only the occasional beam landed close, hitting their cover or grazing their energy shields - a pair of beams had managed to tag Zozo, only slightly draining his shields while Anzu's cover was starting to glow red as it melted from repeated blows. Even then, heads were mostly kept down, only to briefly peek or take quick, poorly aimed shots as their teammates moved up.

Damien's stealth systems allowed him to easily approach the rocky outcropping, but it wasn't clear cut - a trio of Thrall infantry popped up from behind it with a belt fed autocannon and aimed - right through him and at Fieke a short ways away behind him. Squeezing the butterfly triggers, the thrall's gun's muzzle came to life as massive 35mm shells were spat out and smashed into Damien's shields, exploding.

The hammering blows against an invisible figure quickly began eating thorough the young man's energy shields. At the same time, they kicked up dirt, dust and smoke, revealing him - the trio of thralls screamed at the top of their lungs behind their ghastly helmets as the gunner kept on firing, the loaders rapidly bringing their Impalers to bear on the ghostly form in front of Damien in front of them!

Anzu's first shot rocketed across the ravine, slamming into the embankment. It kicked up a very large cloud of obscuring dust, but she couldn't see much beyond that.

"Sif, I'd prefer if you would not confuse the new soldiers," Kai muttered to his XO over a private channel as he turned his attention to the new group of enemies that were assailing Damien and Fieke down in the little ravine they were fighting across. Unfortunately, he couldn't see the Thralls very well with the rocks in the way, so he did the next best thing.

"Anzu, I need those rocks gone. The more shrapnel the better, since we want the enemies down there dead as well. Aya, I need you to go and help them, April will cover you. And Sif, get your tiny ass down here and help will you?" His task done for the moment, Kai shifted his attention back to the trench.

A breath. Hold it. Target sighted. The Yamataian pulled his trigger a single time, and it bucked. On the other side of the canyon, one of the Mishhu clones fell backward in a spray of blood. It wasn't alone- Several more fell along with it, the victims of skillful and lucky shots alike, but they were soon replaced. There seemed to be more troops behind the trench, or hiding within it.

She tsked to herself as the explosive anti-personnel round hit nothing but dirt, turning a chunk of earthy embankment into thick dust. Anzu was still considering her second shot when she heard Kai's orders. "Rocks blown up, lots of shrapnel? I got just the thing!" She fired off another round as her cover rapidly melted, aiming higher this time, although she wasn't sticking around to see the results.

Gathering her shield and weapons, she ducked into cover for a brief moment, activating her camo system while out of sight. Flying back and to the side into another bit of cover, Anzu hoped the camouflage and second explosive round would give her the brief window she needed to settle in at her new location.

The Neko flickered back into view after a, hopefully, uneventful little jaunt. Anzu unloaded her bazooka, popping in a fresh magazine. Settling back in, she turned her view to the rocks offending Kai. "Cover your ears!" Another giggle as she fired, the high-explosive thermite round ready to clear some room for Damien and Fieke. If they hadn't been silly enough to wind up within the blast radius, of course.

Damien figured his advance was going well. The enemy hadn't spotted him and it appeared as if he was going to make it up the hill unmolested. That was until he looked up and saw the barrel of an autocannon pointed in his direction. In the split second before the first round hit, Damien was unsure of how the enemy saw him. A quick glance at his HUD showed a friendly in tow. "They must be aiming at him" Damien thought as he saw the muzzle flash and felt the kinetic impact hit his shields.

Shocked, surprised and angry, Damien's brain raced as he thought of what to do as smoke and dust kicked up around him. By now the enemy had seen him, or at least his outline and was now firing everything that they had at him. He watched as his shield energy level began dropping. If he stayed here, he would certainly be torn to pieces. Damien's excited brain went into overdrive as he did the only thing he knew how to do... attack... It was going to be the longest 3 seconds of his life. Damien went into action, completely focused on his tasks he didn't even hear what Kai was saying over the radio.

Damien raised his physical shield to hopefully block any shots which got through his energy shield, raised his rifle and fired off a stream of gunfire at the rocky outcropping. They weren't aimed shots because Damien knew that he had to get the enemy down and himself out of the line of fire. He activated his thrusters and flew to the side and up, hoping the added speed would help him zig zag and get out of the line of fire and closer to the enemy.

It was a prayer, a small chance, but it was certainly better than sitting still. Damien could only hope that his idea to play hero wouldn't blow up in his face.

Aya felt a bit bolder as she noticed that things were going (relatively) well. At the very least, nobody had been forced out of commission yet. That was a plus in the young Nekovalkryja's book. However, they weren't out of the woods yet - far from it, as Damien got attacked by an autocannon. Kai's words were scarcely out of his mouth before Aya responded, "Right away!"

Taking aim and firing one last burst at the hostiles, Aya broke from cover and made a beeline for Damien's position, trusting in April to protect her from any Mishhu or Thralls who saw her as an easy target. Despite the danger, Aya smiled to herself. She was just itching for a chance to show the enemy what she was made of.

As Damien pulled himself out of the line of fire with no small amount of flash Fieke made use of the time the other soldier had spent as target dummy to line herself up and start an offensive charge against the thrall weapons team.

The Abwehran clenched her teeth behind her helmet. With the enemy troopers distracted Fieke hoped to get close enough that their main weapon wouldn't be able to do any significant damage to her armour before she was able to lay into them – and if by any stroke of luck she managed to keep her assault a surprise that would be quite wonderful.

Quickly scanning her target group as she ate up the ground between her and them the OriSec Corporal
adjusted her positioning so she would begin her assault on the enemy loader most removed from his two fellows. A quick blow from the stock of her ASGR between the thrall's neck and shoulder would remind the entire little group of enemies why there was a Powered in Powered Armour and then Fieke could pull her rifle in close and take the gunner and remaining loader with a short swivel and one burst of precise fire.

Hopefully.

Her arms tensing as she lifted her weapon in position for the attack she had in mind Fieke barreled onwards towards her targets.

Still safely covered Zozo continued to shoot a series of rounds aimlessly across the creekbed towards the dug in Mishhuvurthyar though the apologies that came with them had stopped. The Elysian had become too focused on the well being of his squad then to worried about what bad day laid on the other end of his rifle. He had barely even registered being struck once or twice, nor felt the whirl of the shield generators in his armor's wing sheaves compensating for the energy lost.

Periodically Zozo searched for each member of his squad before turning his thoughts towards the ones who broke out from cover in attempt to gain and advantage over the defending forces on the other side. From this position, he couldn't easily make out where Damien and Fieke currently were. It was only when Aya suddenly burst forth into the fray did he realize what was happening. It seemed his constant fretting had also caused him to miss most of their squad leader's transmission.

"By God's Will!" Zozo spewed a curse for once, frustrated over himself. Here he was, thinking he was ready to act the soldier only to be so distracted by worrisome thoughts. Quickly he reloaded his weapon regardless of what rounds still remained and popped out enough from cover to get a better view. Though from what few words he managed to catch from Kai's commands didn't include him, he decided to lend support anyways, particularly aiming for anything shooting at Aya.

Another explosion announced Anzu's departure from her old cover, which, combined with the covering fire from Kai, April, and Zozo, made the Mishhu in the trenches duck as Aya burst forward to assist Damien and Fieke. As soon as the markswoman found new cover and unleashed a third round from her Gauss bazooka, the rock outcropping partway up the ravine exploded in a burst of shrapnel- It took out the thralls whom were firing from that position, but also had the added effect of bowling over the now too-close Fieke. The Abwehran woman felt her armor lose its footing as it was blasted backward by shrapnel and overpressure, leaving the OriSec agent on her back at the bottom of the watershed.

Aya was thankfully far enough away to not be affected by the blast, and Damien's skyward break saved him from it as well, but, it presented its own problems. Though the Mishhu clones in the trench could not fire on the opposite ridge or down into the ravine, they could see Damien up in the sky, his shield displacing the dust and keeping him visible. Once again, he found himself under fire.

"Keep down, out of their view!" Damien heard over the comms. "Next time you need to escape, try strafing sideways, staying close to the ground. you're a sitting duck in the air," Kai instructed him, calmly.

Zozo, Aya, and April would be rewarded for Anzu's previous efforts. As the dust began to settle, two large holes could be seen going through the trench walls, and just behind them, dazed humanoid figures in armor that hadn't been quite killed by the blasts splayed limply along the back wall, ready for the taking.

Another voice rung out over the comms, April's this time. "Sir, it looks like we got ourselves a couple of openin's on the other side. You think we should?" she left the rest of her thoughts hanging, though it seemed that Kai understood, as he responded immediately.
"Once we're back in order, we'll take the weak points."

Heads turned and watched while rifles aimed as a sole power armor rose over the lip of the trench just high enough to be seen by dozens of troops at once.

Damien found himself flying right out of the frying pan and into the fire as several particle beams leaped up to greet him - multiple, flickering lances of energy slashed through the air at him, bending as the shields were pummeled. Sheer volume rapidly drained his shields down to nothing before a pair of feet stomped Damien right on the shoulders, sending him hurtling straight into the ground just a few meters away from the enemy trench.

But safely out of harm for the moment.

Whirring, scorching automatic fire swept across the trench tops, the small particle blasts sputtering out of the palm of a power armor standing beside him. Sif had leaped right up to where he was at and knocked him straight back into cover. There was something odd about her however - the normally stark white plates had become a dark angry red. Already however, she was walking away towards the Abwehran. When Sif spoke to him however, her voice bit into Damien with an unusual edge. "We don't usually fly in ground combat for a reason - you just get spotted that way," she explained, a hint of anger in her voice.

Reaching down with a free hand, the dainty red power armor easily hoisted Fieke, armor and all, right back onto her feet while still hosing down the trenches with the other. "We shall storm the trenches at Nakamura's mark," she ordered both Fieke and Damien, not suggesting any course of action to them this time.

It was painfully obvious she wasn't happy.

As Damien laid on the ground in temporary safety, he dropped his cloak so that he could check himself out to make sure he wasn't hit anywhere. His suit's medical suite kicked in to numb his pain. However there was nothing that could help numb the pain on his embarrassment. In his semi-panic he had thought about the wrong thing and ended up flying up into the sky instead of up the ravine. It was a costly and near fatal mistake. Considered Sif had to intervene Damien knew that he was in quite a bit of trouble.

As he listened to Kai give advice it was underscored by Sif rather scolding direction. This was not how Damien had planned on starting his first mission, nearly getting killed twice in 30 seconds wasn't the way to gain friends in his squad. Maybe he really was unlucky.

"Stop feeling sorry for yourself and get the fuck up!" Damien thought as he rolled over on his stomach going prone. He checked his magazine and saw the counter read 00. Apparently his aerial acrobatics has used up the last of his ammo. He reloaded his weapon and scanned for the of the squad.

"Sir, I'm ready to go when you are" he squad as he maneuvered himself closer to Sif and Fieke so that he would be in position to assault the trench when ordered. Damien certainly knew one thing, he wouldn't be so gung-ho to get things moving next time. He might not survive another mistake...

Anzu shook her head, although there wasn't anyone around to see it, as Fieke was sent tumbling by the shockwave her last shot had created. "Just like I said..." she grumbled to herself, unloading the thermite rounds now that the rest of her squad was advancing. She couldn't help another giggle as Damien was knocked out of harm's way by the shrimpy suit. The Yamataian didn't seem to have the skill - or luck - to back up his enthusiasm, so Simo would just have to hope he was the type that learned from their mistakes.

With a fresh magazine of armor piercing rounds loaded, Anzu was ready to watch her squadmates' backs as they made their push. The coilgun didn't have a high rate of fire with such a small magazine, so she'd have to pick her shots. Thankfully each round would probably slam through two armors before it even realized it had hit something, so careful aim into a packed trench would still make quite a dent.
