Sif was quick to address both Aya and Anzu as the AGPC rocked and swayed as it rumbled along.
"The vast majority of tracked combat vehicles in Yamatai's inventory are Tankettes - if we are guarding them, we will fail no matter what, and the bulk of the combat work will fall on us," she dryly spoke, a hint of amusement building in her voice as she did so. The short, miniature little Neko was getting to something, but was being roundabout. "They have no shields, with armor and firepower only marginally better than you or I," Sif explained. "But. If it is one of the provisional models, we're all going to have a lot of fun."
They could all feel her little grin.
After her words and the excitement of battle, boredom set in however. Aside from the sound of the vehicle itself bouncing around, there wasn't much of anything going on, though occasionally a resounding boom could be heard from the distance, peppering the vehicle crew's gossiping of new models already on the way. However, just before the point at which a brain will melt from an overload of monotony, the Ro skidded to a halt, its wheels making a distinctive crunching sound as it slowed to a halt in a patch of gravel. The rear doors flung themselves open, and Nakamura-Juni motioned for everyone to vacate the vehicle.
Outside, their charge was waiting. the Oni was an impressive vehicle. The tank's size was imposing, and it was covered in more armor than an entire platoon of Daisies put together. Its main gun made anything the armors carried look like pop guns, and it exuded a presence of strength and stamina that would leave many breathless. And yet, despite all this, it was vulnerable. As large and imposing as it was, it was relatively slow in comparison and could not react as swiftly as an armor. Despite all of its power, the thing was likely to be overwhelmed by smaller enemies in close quarters.
Which was why Squad 13 was here - to protect it from those smaller enemies, and allow it to bring its power to the battlefield where it could be used.
As they neared, the tank's turret was animatedly looking around with it's cannon, the massive gun being rapidly brought to and fro as the turret swung with alarming speed as it kept. It's gunner inside kept a vigilant watch on the street in front of it. One that was desperately needed - the previous group of power armors were all laying behind cover, their miserable forms partially melted by energy weapon fire, punctured by 50mm cannon. The less fortunate ones were left unattended to, rent apart by what looked like what had been wicked blades. Only a few were still undamaged enough to actively provide some means of close quarters protection or tend to the wounded.
A single Daisy with a deep gash cut into her forearm shield waved them over into cover.
"About time! The advanced stalled as soon as we took too many casualties," she started to explain to Nakamura and Sif. "Obviously, the tank can't keep pushing unless someone's watching its ass and scouting forward a little, but the Ika have all been tearing at us every chance they got. They know that once we're out of the pic - " The tank's cannon boomed as a speck of fire blossomed far off in the distance, its coaxial autocannon briefly hammering away at some unseen target. "Ugh," she sighed, continuing where she left off. " - once we're out of the picture, the tank's up for grabs if it doesn't just scram. Which it will. Which means we'll be pushed back here at this grid," the helmeted woman spoke, her own troops either walking or being carried off into the Donkeys they rode in on.
"So...yeah. You're all tentacled - they got Rippers in the area." At that, she limped off, dumping the responsibility on Squad 13.
The big baby boomed again.
"Understood" Kai replied simply to the other squad's CO. "Why don't you and your leftovers take up the rear, my squad will cover the front and sides, to give you a break." The tall Juni motioned for his squad to follow, moving closer to the tank as he opened up a link with its crew, and thn issued orders to the squad.
"Anzu, Fieke, I want you on the tank to provide direct support. Aya, Damien, you seem to work well together, take the front, I want a lead of fifteen meters minimum. Sif, April, and I will guard the sides. Zozo, I need you to stick with the Ro and help these wounded- We have enough medical training here to take care of ourselves."
With the orders given, Kai and April walked to their positions and waited for everyone else to be ready to move out, and Zoroaster trotted off to help the squad, the Elysian seeming pleased to be helping people rather than fighting.
