ON: YSS Senbu - Enlisted Mess Deck

Though many members of the Senbu were away, the ship was far from quiet. It takes a lot of work to restore a warship sized repair ship back to working order, especially after the condition it was left in. It was shaping up quite well though now that it was day two, mostly thanks to the efforts of the YSS Senbu's never-underestimated engineering units. Even the heroes of the 3rd sacrificed a vacation that would put the one the Pride Wing was on to shame, just because of their desire to return their glorious Anri to its previous brilliance. Though it was not work all around the clock, they did take some leisurely breaks; after all... they were heroes, right?

It was one of those breaks just now; most of the 3rd and many others of the enlisted were filling up the mess deck with the lunch hour. The normal crowd was replaced with more engineers and new pilots who were moved in over the vacation, settling into the ship before its return to duty.

"Man, I never thought I'd be doing so much on my first day on the ship..." Suzaku said, brushing a hand through his black hair as he entered into the mess deck to get a bite to eat before going back to it. "But I don't really mind, I like the work," he mused to himself as he continued on his way, his hands behind his head as he was walking along. He was still in the clothing he'd worn when he first boarded ship and it was a bit burnt in areas from his work.

Mayuki was cheerful, sitting across the first man the Neko had ran into since she was assigned to the Senbu. She ate at a quick pace, at large quantities that she would later eat less of while in transit as she would otherwise feel guilty about eating the great burden of food supplies that would normally feed the soldiers. "Meh, this work is kindergarten stuff! I can't wait till we go out to space and do some real repair work!" the Neko replied during a pause to grab another bowl to feast down on it with her pair of chopsticks.

"That's good, Suzu!" a cheerful cute little voice said from behind him. The petite yellow blonde Neko who had been working with him most of the day bounced in her step as she walked up beside him with her tray in hand. She was Ittô Hei Momoto Chiyoko, the 3rd Unit's own little sweetheart. She had told him to call her Chi-chan, nothing else or she'd have to punish the lower ranking soldier for disobeying orders, though she was quite playful about it. That was the same time she had given him his nickname. She then paced past him and slipped into the seat across from Mayuki, greeting her with a polite bow as she joined her.

"Eh heh... Yeah, it is good...." Suzaku said to Chiyoko and glanced over at Mayuki and shook his head a bit. "Well... that's why were here isn't it?" he asked the fellow engineer with a short laugh.

Of course, not too far behind the other engineers was their team chief, Chui Inoue Rina, who sauntered in with her tool belt ready and a smirk on her face. She seemed to have a knowing tone to her voice, too. "Well now, you'd better be that ready if you're so willing to take on heavier jobs, ne? Anyway, how're the noodles today?"

Mayuki peered over her bowl that she paused mid-bite to see Chiyoko sit down. There was something about the senior that boiled Mayuki's soul to the core, like that of a rival. However, she was very different upon meeting the pilot, even went as far to swallow her food and say, "Very good today, the Sprites know their stuff. Hey, sit down with us if you have the time."

Suzaku would simply grab a couple apples to eat, casually juggling them for a moment as he did. He glanced over at the rival engineers and blinked his grey eyes a bit before shrugging and holding an apple in his mouth as he went to go take a seat nearby but not actually with them. "I don't know, Chief, you'll have to try them out for yourself," Katsuragi said to Inoue.

Rina smiled broadly—as if it were tradition on the ship, she was just as cozy with the crew as, say, the ship's captain was with her 'pet squadron,' or as the XO with them as well... And she sat down, "Well then, I guess I shall!" And she flagged down a sprite to get her her own noodles.

"Mn~ mn~ mn~ mnnn~," Chikako hummed to herself happily as she made her way to the mess deck, all the while trying to remind herself that she was going to be second-in-command to her commanding officer's pet project, whatever she had meant by that. There were so many faces on the Senbu, and certainly she couldn't possibly consider a wing of rookies to be somehow more valuable, could she? She needed food that would work out her neurosis, maybe pork or beef, noodles to fill her up and something sweet to close the deal. And afterwards... a bath.

Suzaku watched them for a moment and playfully whistled at the chief as she walked past. He meant it purely as a compliment though.

After arriving at Aries, medical duties had become significantly lighter for Mai. Occasionally, she had to check on the status of Senbu crewmembers for proprieties sake, but for the most part it was very hands off. Thus, Mai found herself doing what little she could, and eventually the Neko found herself in the mess wandering aimlessly with a tray full of food in hand.

Rina looked at Suzaku and winked, for at least a second, before sticking her tongue out. "Funny, funny." Then, from there, she got her hands on a bowl of noodles, which she began greedily devouring.

"Whoever said I was joking?" Suzaku asked, looking sheepish and chuckled a bit, glancing away for a moment.

"I apologize for my rudeness, my name is Yoshito Mayuki, feel free to call me Mayuki-chan if you prefer," Mayuki said to the pilot after finishing a bowl after the pilot sat down, while she had a good set of bowls piled up, she still flagged down for more. At the presence of the pilot, however, she began to eat in a more civilized fashion, this time it being curry udon on her plate.

Rina looked up and got a smugger, knowing tone in her voice, looking over at Suzaku. "I did!" But she did look over and around, trying to gaze at the various people wandering about."

Suzaku gave her a smug smile and grinned slyly and went back to eating his apples. "Yeah, you keep thinking that there, sexy," he purred to her.

To which Rina waved a hand dismissively, as if to say “Okay, I'm done with this conversation."

"Round one to me." Suzaku smirked to himself and leaned back quietly to relax.

"Jeez, how unprofessional." Chikako grimaced, glancing at the exchange between the two, before sitting down with her plate. She had settled on a plate of stir fried noodles with small strips of beef and diced vegetables, likely made when there was an excess of noodles that day. Not that she particularly cared. It was food, after all.

Feeling ignored, Mayuki continued on her next bowl of curry noodles. She had wanted to make friends with the pilot, but it seemed Suzaku was taking all the attention, which started to form her own opinion about him. I better do something soon before this becomes a harem... she bemused in thought.

His fun over, Suzaku would reach into a pocket and produce a data pad and access a few files, bringing up a volumetric display of a standard Mindy armor and displaying statistics for it. Alongside that would come a schematic for a small globe that was glowing a soft blue hue at it's core. "Hrm..." he said, studying the information as he took a bite of fruit. "Hmm?" He glanced up to Mayuki, getting the feeling that she was thinking something about him, judging by the look she'd cast his way.

Mayuki was finally done with her food and was about to reach for her drink when she noticed Suzaku's look. She then said in reply to it, "Hey have you checked out the new armor yet? I heard some new Mindys were available or something. If we do got ‘em, we should check them out." Then, she began to drink her soda after saying what was on her mind.

Actually Mayuki... I'm looking at one right now," Suzaku said with a light smile. "I've been carousing Mindy models for a while, thinking about the modifications that can be made without hampering the performance of the machine itself." he said.

She had a funny face, temporarily in the thought of, Damn he's ahead of me. Mayuki quickly calmed herself however and stated, "To be expected from an armor mechanic specialist, I'm envious that you get to introduce the new power armors, while I'm needed elsewhere."

"But you're still important in what and where you work," Suzaku said, trying to lighten her up and shrugged a bit. "I've been trying to piece together an armor design specifically for us engineers, geared more toward defense and repair while in the heat of battle. I had an idea to create a kind of nanogel that’s preprogrammed for specific suits, but so far it's just a work-in-progress," he said with a sigh and flicked an apple core into the trash before starting on a new one.

Rina was, for the most part, eating to herself. She did perk her ears up at the mention of the engineering armor, thinking a bit about that...

Mai had been looking around for a place to sit when she spotted one across from Suzaku who happened to have a Mindy model up. After walking over to the table, she set her tray down. "Are you a pilot?" Mai asked as she sat down and gazed at the hologram.

"Hmm? Oh, no, I’m a technician who specializes in the armors," Suzaku said and brushed a hand through his dark hair, brushing his messy bangs out of his eyes. "I'm Katsuragi Suzaku, I don't believe we've met."

"Not that I would ever want to be in combat, really, fighting is for the pilots..." her voice trailed off as she just remembered that one was sitting with them. "With due respect," she added politely then continued her point, "I hardly would consider we will be out in space fixing something while a in a middle of a fire fight." Then she greeted the newcomer in her polite way, "Hello, my name is Yoshito Mayuki, you can call me Mayuki-chan if you like."

Rina picked up on the new arrival, and after a second, responded as well. "Inoue Rina, ranking officer of this little bunch." After that, though, she noticed what Mayuki was saying. And she but could grin. "Well. That depends on just how crazy the command staff gets, now doesn't it? I've done my share of in-battle EVA repairs on the Shuryuu... Don't be surprised if the Senbu will need it eventually...

"All the more reason to have an armor specifically for that, Mayuki..." Suzaku said to her pointedly, casting a grey-eyed glance to her, showing he was serious about what he was talking about.

And the conversations did continue for a while longer, but the events of the day went on with more and more work. But it was not all for vain—the Senbu was gradually returning to her former glory and after a new coat of paint and shine she'd be just like new for the command when they got back!
