The defense theater outside of Aries Starbase

The giant maw of the YSS Senbu's main repair bay opened wide as it approached its fallen ally. But before it could take the downed Plumeria-class ship, the YSS Colichemarde in its protective embrace, it had to deploy the ships currently docked inside. Out from the glorious red Anri floated out the two Nozomi-class scouts, the YSS Makka and the YSS Tategami. Both moved out around the downed ship, taking up defensive positions and becoming the rally point for a squadron of Mindys each. The Gold was with the Makka and Vermillion grouped up in formation around the Tategami. It looked like this objective would go smoothly, but a problem did arise—what was left of the attacking nine Mindys changed facing from the Pride Squadron and zipped off towards the open doors of the Senbu so close by.

“Oh like hell you're going to do that!” Masako shouted at the Mindys, knowing they didn't hear her and attempted to lock onto them and began to give chase so she'd have a better chance. In a few seconds, she'd release a full volley of missiles to try and destroy them before they got there and fired her left forearm projector in the form of a charged beam.

Kuriko quickly reoriented herself as she took in the new situation. "We have to take the armors out before they reach the ship. Fire at will!" Kuriko ordered before targeting the Mindys and opening fire.

"Wha... aw crap I'm out!?" Masako said when her AIES informed her that she was out if missiles. "Oh crap I guess I wasted them all already," she sighed. She'd instead compliment her charged beam with submachine gun spray from the weapon in her right hand.

Sakaki had shifted herself to fire a volley of aether with her blade gun. “Perhaps I should have remained melee after all,” she stated to herself mostly. We must stop those Mindys; if they get inside they could do a lot of damage.

"Senbu, they got away from us and are heading for the open bay doors!" Masako thought to alert their Op and the bridge incase they didn't notice it just yet. "Sakaki, funny thing about that weapon... it can be used for melee too," Masako reminded her close comrade telepathically.

“Masako, I have already lost one weapon in that manner, I do not wish to lose another,” replied Sakaki, concentrating on keeping her aim steady with the aid of Tsukihime's target assist.

One Mindy, which had flanked Masako earlier, had a lead on the group. It streaked off gaining considerable space on the Pride Squadron and its own group. It was first into a cloud of defensive fire from the Anri's point defense weapons. But the other eight were in an optimal range increment for the Pride; their combined spray connected with a few, leaving scorched Mindys and one clipped in the shoulder by Masako's charged blast of aether. It looked like the whole apparatus around the upper arm was destroyed by the shot. That unit was sent off course, but two of the remaining seven jolted forward and flipped their facing, they boosted back towards the Pride Squad, each with engaged forearm shields and firing an opening hail of forearm aether spray.

"Well shit, that got their attention. There's one getting away from them. It's probably their leader, I'd wager, and they're acting as a rear guard," Masako hypothesized and shifted her left forearm projector into a shield and used it to defend against the incoming attacks she couldn't evade with the AIES aid. The busty Neko would open fire upon them with the machine gun, aiming to get under them and frowned when her shots bounced off. "Hmm," she grunted and decided to stealth her Mindy and activate the hologram generating system to create one where she was that seemed to be defending. The real Masako would try to circle up and above them to fire downward upon them but needed a moment to get into position and hoped her stealth decoy would work.

“Well then, Masako, you may be correct after all,” Sakaki said as she charged her weapon's blade and boosted forward with her left arm as shield and her right prepared to swing down on the first Mindy that crossed paths with her.

"Don't even try to get past me!" Chikako barked, charging up her saber-rifle and activating her teleport pack. She immediately closed the distance between herself and the enemy unit, bringing her rifle's bayonet up diagonally into the direction of its torso and boosting forwards. Although it would probably be a mistake to use the teleportation pack so early in the battle, she reasoned that contingencies are only kept when we really don't need them. "Keep our defense tighter!" she said loudly over communications, launching volley of missiles at an incoming group.

Kuriko accelerated to meet the charge past the two armors. "Masako, Chikako, engage the two armors," Kuriko ordered. "Sakaki you're with me. We gotta stop the rest from getting to the Senbu." Kuriko activated her forearm shields to deflect the incoming hail of aether fire.

"Tasia, we have a request for support from the YSS Azuma, an Irim-class Gunship four AU from our location on the end of the defense line," one of the twins alerted the Captain. "They've taken heavy damage and are still under fire from a group of short range fighters and armor," the other one filled in more information. "The only other Anri in the defense force is towards our left flank, and currently repairing another ship." Then the first one finished and looked up awaiting instructions on what they should do.

“Hai Shifuda-heisho, as you command,” stated Sakaki continuing her charge, but rather than slashing through, she would speed past them then switch her gun back to aether mode and continue attempting to hit things at long range.

Masako would orbit above them and begin to open fire from her stealthed position with her forearm projector in charged beam bursts alternating with submachine gun fire to try and take them out from overhead where their shields weren't. She was working hard to keep her allies out of the line of fire as she did as well, not an easy task with how things were going at all.

Shizuka tore her eyes from the screen and back to her tactical display, which was one of the elliptical volumetric screens floating in her vision. She glanced over her list, checking her options and resources. She glanced over it once more time; it was hard to keep her mind straight—she relied on her Neko nature to keep her emotions from taking over. She still couldn't believe what was happening right now, it became hard to concentrate. She shook her head and breathed a few steadying breaths. That's when she came up to the list of fighters they had. They were engaged variously all over the field, but one of the squads of the 101st Tactical Strike Wing looked close enough to zip to the help of the Azuma.

"We'll have one of our squadrons move out to try and gain control of their situation, have the Makka start to move to support it but have those fighters move now so we can keep them in one piece while we finish up here!" Shizuka ordered, and then gripped tighter around the august command's rail. Through her SPINE uplink, the Taisa opened up short range communications with the flight lead she needed to get in touch with, "Jessica-Chui, I have a ship under attack a few clicks from here, the data should be on your HUD. They need support heavily, get in there and make sure that ship doesn't sink—understood?!"

When the Hayabusa squadron under Chui Jessica Smyth received Shizuka’s order, it peeled off its pursuit of several enemy Mindy, blasting them with final bursts from their rapid fire weaponry as they followed their commander’s lead. “Sure thing, Taisa. Vector, locked in,” Jessica confirmed, rolling her fighter over the hull of a friendly Ayame with her wingmates not far behind. “Set weapons systems in attack position,” she said as they cleared friendly hulls and dove into a plane of crossfire. “We’re in for some chop!” The squadron weaved in and out of debris and combatants alike, making attacks of opportunity as they passed. When the Azuma grew large before the incoming unit as enemy armors and fightercraft swarmed around it, Jessica opened fire with a volley of rapid-fire turrets and one missile from her fighter’s under-wing hardpoints. “Weapons free, fire at will,” she said calmly as she made the commands to fire.

The enemy unit that Chikako charged brought its shield down and then up under her blade, deflecting the stab. Then with its other hand, it tried to open a point-blank burst of aether into Chikako's exposed chest. It was happening so fluidly that she could probably see the attack coming after the deflection, but how fast she reacted to it was the deciding factor here. But while that one was engaged, the other braked hard and spun on a spot, in an inhuman turn and fired off a fully charged aether blast at Kuriko's back after she moved past the unit.

Kuriko's AIES lit up alerting her of the incoming fire. Without a second thought, Kuriko whipped around and slammed her two forearm shields together in an attempt to absorb the incoming shot while still maintaining the momentum from moving toward the Senbu.

"My aim truly sucks," Masako cursed herself and boosted downward, shifting her shield to a sword mode and shot toward the one firing upon Kuriko and slash or stab it in the shoulder or arm.

"Taii! The enemies are attempting to make their way into the MRB!" Ageha reported on the bridge. "Thank you, Sakiyurai-hei," she replied to Masako as she watched the battle unfold on her console.

"Aaargh!" Chikako barked, rolling out as she activated her right-hand barrier system to dodge and deflect the attack, before delivering a left hand smash with the Zesuaium-lined shield that still adorned her Mindy. She took the hit, her block missing a little and causing the Aether blast to cut across the armor on her right torso, exposing the homesynthetic insert underneath but not hitting deep enough to attack her directly. Grunting again, she prepped another barrage of missiles to destroy the Mindy at point-blank if her counterattack succeeded.

Kuriko's quick turn and defensive action was good enough to block the attack and both of her shields flickered with the repulse. The aether was absorbed and Kuriko was safe from the blast, but that's where her luck ended—a stray beam from the Senbu's point defense struck her back unit and the teleportation module exploded in a glimmering array of colors in a sudden discharge of the stored temporal energy. The abnormality devoured the Mindy, and then Kuriko suddenly disappeared from sensor range.

The Nitô Hei in charge of watching the Pride Squadron on her console was shocked. Her squad leader just vanished from the display. She checked the sensor logs and saw there was some sort of temporal burst right before, an anomaly in the space-time continuum. "Shi—Shifuda-heisho?" Ageha asked cautiously, hoping that it was just some sort of error or a problem with Kuriko's Mindy. The other members of the Pride Squadron seemed to still be there, so she added on their open channel, "Are you guys alright? What happened to Shifuda-heisho?"

Sakaki kept barreling towards the enemy Mindy that were making their way to the Senbu when she heard the announcement, “Shif...” she paused then refocused. I shall worry about our commander later, I must get these before they reach the Senbu! “Nanjo-hei, I must focus on the enemy before they reach the Senbu. Find Shifuda-heisho for us!” She then resumed firing on the enemy while trying to keep them at least in firing range.

Like the heads up had said, the Azuma was under increasingly heavy fire from what looked like at least two, if not three squadrons of armor and various shuttles. But what came from the underside of the ship posed the greatest threat to the starfighters, a squad of Artemis Spacy Fighters with visual modifications came into view to engage Jessica's group. They looked serious, and hungry for a dogfight—the group opened up with a cloud of micro-missiles, ten per each of the eleven fighters.

The squadron of Hayabusa broke their formation as the myriad missiles, exhaust streaming out for kilometers behind them, sped towards their locked-on signatures. “Launch countermeasures and regroup!” Jessica commanded, letting loose a trail of bright chaff that would hopefully confuse many of the enemy’s rockets. The Chui brought her fighter about with those of her wingmen who could forming up on her lead. “Azuma,” she said over an open communications line, “We’re here to help you out, having set our sights on you—and until you’re outta here no one else will do. Try and make your way out of harms way while we try an’ draw away the attention of these bastards!”

Masako's sudden charge was successful; the Mindy was caught off guard in the surprise explosion around its target which was Kuriko. Masako's attack was actually so sudden that the blade was unchallenged and cut right through half of the enemy suit. The Mindy ceased up and stopped moving, the machine's power signature faded and Masako's AIES tallied up another kill.

What was that?! Wait where did Kuriko go? If she was killed there'd be debris here from it, I think that hit randomly teleported her… somewhere or something. She thought and concentrated on the one trying to get to the Senbu. She'd charge up her aether beam again and tried to catch up to her with Sakaki. She'd spiral around to get her friend out of her firing line and try to snipe the enemy off with the beam followed by a burst of sub-machine gun fire.

"Ara!?" Ageha blinked and jerked back in surprise at Sakaki's response. B—but I can't see out there, she thought to herself, distressed as she poured over the logs and tried to figure out what happened to Kuriko. "Taii," she said weakly, cheeks flushing with embarrassment and having lost her squad leader. "Shifuda-heisho has vanished, sir," the ComOps reported, sighing, not able to believe at how badly she was failing in her duty at that moment. Instinctively she tried to touch her barrettes for comfort, but she felt only hair having forgotten removing them when the call to battle stations came through. She shivered and tensed up, taking a deep breath as she tried to focus herself.

Chikako's Mindy alerted her as well that it had no misses in reserves after that dizzying barrage they opened up with. But her attack with the physical shield caused the other Mindy to float backwards from the impact, but not for much distance before the inertia drive kicked in and righted the pilot. In that movement, its shoulder mounted gauss cannons flipped and fired in rapid succession for Chikako, but it was a moment after her attack which gave her ample time to evade.

The blonde Taii, sitting up-above the girls in charge of combat relay with their armor, was predisposed with assisting things the Gold Squad operator needed. But when Ageha had alerted him about the potential boarding party, he had stopped everything he was doing and brought up a new screen and tired to gain a visual on the situation. "Shizuka-taisa!" he yelled out, and he was not one to normally shout as loud as he did. "We have potential boarders moving into the MRB!"

The Lioness lifted her hands from the rail and twitched her head to look at a new volumetric display of what he was talking about. She waved her hand and the screens were gone, and the cord attached to her neck disconnected and fell to the floor. She ordered the twins to hold down the bridge while she suited up. Akira-taii turned back to the group, and with the news of disappearing Kuriko, he seemed to sink a little further into his chair in disbelief of the situation. "Alright, don't panic," he said to Ageha first and then called up a new panel. "I'm going to report this to the sensor operators; they'll look for the Heisho."
