RP: YSS Genesis [Episode 3] Frozen Wranglers

Kai

Retired Staff
It was quite a good thing that the YSS Genesis had its own internal gravity generation, because otherwise the g-forces from the sudden acceleration as it exited its hangar would likely have turned the crew into a lovely paste. For the engineering crew, they would notice a sudden increase in noise, heat, and vibrations, but, aside from that single faulty pipe (which had thankfully not ruptured during takeoff) everything was working marvelously. By the time Yoko and Amethyst arrived at their destination, they would find the pipe already taken out of use, as the thruster it fed was not currently needed, making their job that much easier.

For the rest of the crew whom had a nice view of what was going on outside, it was only mere moments from the departure to the arrival at the Genesis' designated testing ground. Already, it seemed to have passed its first test, as there didn't seem to be any leaks or major faults, the ship had not exploded, and all the crew on board were perfectly alive and well.

"Well, that seems to have gone smoothly" Rikou cheerfully pointed out, seeming to enjoy the feeling of being in command. "Helm, please proceed to tests eight through fifteen" the young Neko ordered, once again referring to Seth, whom, again, only nodded his confirmation that she was performing properly. Rikou quietly giggled at this accomplishment of her own, placing her hands together happily.
"Well, Masami, everything appears to be proceeding correctly. I think I can handle the bridge on my own, so, could you please make a round of the Ship and make sure that everything is going properly?"

************

"Well," Sierra began looking at her datapad once more for confirmation, "it seems that our first task once the initial tests are done will involve acquiring something large from the asteroid belt nearby, and we will need a Power Armor team ready to attach it to the ship for transport, so, could I ask you to form a team of Armor pilots who are ready to do some EVA work?" The apparently busy Junior Executive hammered away at her datapad again for a moment before looking up at Shinon again. "Oh, right, I will brief you and your team fully once you've assembled them, I'd like to meet you all down in the hangar in about fifteen minutes, if that's okay?"

Mako watched the screen with raptured interest, her new home was now moving through the stars. Well at least heading for the stars. She looked up from to screen to see that most of the folks she was sitting with had moved on, so with a few smiles and good byes she headed off to her cabin to get a little nap in before anything important that she would be needed for came up.

Yoko's heavy breathing was, somehow, not overwhelmed by the myriad of sounds emanating from the ship's engines and untold subsystems. "Ha! Finally...finally got you...hea..." she panted, finally letting go of the heavy section of plasma conduit. The two women had pushed and pulled the thing through the maintenance tunnel to the noise of screeching metal and grinding gratings. And somehow, the plasma conduit was unscratched.

Thank the metamaterial-what'sits in the coating.

After spending a moment to catch her breath, the engineer wiped her brow before explaining the next steps. "Ok, we just gotta unseal the section of pipe by unscrewing the rings holding them togetha, then work the pipe clamp leavahs - watch youa toes though, yaknow?" she called out to the other engineer with her.

"It'll drop like a rock if youa not careful!"

"Roger that ma'am that won't be problem." Shinon replied and had to forced herself to not bow to Sierra. She was glad she will finally have some purpose. Not to mention she will get to test her team. Shinon turned away and walked to table where Mako sat. Mako already left though. Shinon sighed and took out her communicator. She opened line to Kin Nakamura.

"Nakamura-heisho. We got a little EVA mission to do." She called him. "Get whole Power Armour team in the hangar please. Ten minutes." This was going to be fun.

Blue-haired yamatain started running to catch Mako. "Tani-hei... ehh I mean Tani-san, hangar ten minutes. Suit up we got work to do!" She said to her subordinate.

Shinon made haste as she walked to her room to get into her work uniform, grab her NSP and get into the hangar. She wondered what will they pick up. It probably won't be that big if Impulse-clad PA team would be enough to get it.

Turning and almost toppling over Mako smiled "Yes Ma'am I'll be right there let me grab my pistol," Bowing quickly she raced to her room. digging through her stuff she grabbed her NSP and race down to the hanger to start donning her Armored Suit.

Once she finished getting it on she moved around the hanger bay to get used to it, it just wasn't the same as the Mindy's that she learned in. When the Ten minutes were up she stood to and waited for the rest of the PA team to show.

Kin immediately responded to Shinon's message with a lazy-sounding "Yes Ma'am", but despite the sound of the response, by the time Shinon had arrived in the PA bay to change into the Impulse assigned to her, Already most of the PA team had been assembled and were likewise donning Power armor. Kazako, Sinclair, and Nova-heis were all present, Kin was nearly fully suited, and Shiori entered just behind the Shoi. Mako's mad dash had made her early, but it was not long before the rest of the PA team had showed up next to the overeager Santo Hei, likewise waiting for further instructions.

When Shinon approached, Kin asked her "Ma'am, do you know anything about our mission aside from it being EVA work? Excuse me for saying, but I'm not sure why a Power Armor team is needed for testing a starship, aside from security reasons. Do you think there's already been some threat to the ship?"

Aboard the Bridge, Rikou's console received a notification that a shuttle was approaching; it appeared to be a Star Army shuttle, rather than one of the Origin shuttles. Indeed, a moment later, another notification popped up, informing her it was a Kuma shuttle which had been assigned to the Genesis; the roster showed it to be carrying only a pilot, some medical supplies, and hygiene products for the crew- Mundane items that hadn't received a high enough priority to make it through sector Seven- These were all fine, except the Pilot- As the shuttle was assigned to the ship, that meant the pilot was a member of their crew.

"Masami, could you head down to the hangar to greet the Shuttle? And please fetch the head of Security. I think I would like to guide them in, if that is permissible." The second inquiry was directed at Seth, whom again simply nodded, confirming that she was in her rights to do so.

"Kuma shuttle, this is YSS Genesis, Please state your destination and cargo."
The young princess spoke to her console, sending an audio-visual hail to the shuttle's pilot.

Kuma Shuttle

Sitting in the cockpit was a silky white skinned NH-29 Neko named Lina Yusentia, the girl was glancing at her controls, watching her speed and ensuring that she wasn't approuching the ship that was ahead of her to fast.

She was surprised, the original intent was to wait for the ship to either get back to base or dock at the closest station, instead she was ordered to load up a shuttle with supplies and transport them to the Genesis.

Thus here she was, in space, near her next duty station with a shuttle full of juicy supplies and her mind pondering if there were any raiders or pirates - or worse - NMX nearby.

As she listened to the message, she checked the shuttles hold to ensure that the message she would send would be correct. Once she was sure of the cargo, she responded.

Code:
"Destination is the YSS Genesis. My cargo is comprised of Medical and Hyginic supplies intended for the ship."

As the Neko waited for a response, her ears twitched slightly in anticipation for her new journey and hoping that this journey doesn't end like her previous one...

"It'll drop like a rock if youa not careful!"

Amethyst whiped her forehead with her sleeve and simply nodded, grinned then set to work on the pipe.
Nudged up close to it so that she'd easily catch the weight with her full strength.

As the section came loose from it's thread and rings, Amethyst was still grinning and quiet, the noise did not bother her, nor being up close and cramped in a buncha tunnels.

"Just like a heart... so close you can feel it beating" she said quietly to herself after which the pipe slid out of the last bit of ring.
Quickly Amethyst pressed her shoulder underneath her end, supporting it with her two hands as well. "Gotcha!"

Shinon walked into hangar and saw that her team was already there suiting up. That was good, they were supposed to be there sooner then Shinon herself. Almost made her little proud. Proper SAoY soldiers. When Kin approached her, she gave him a nod of greetings, listening to his questions.

"All I know is, that it will be something large from asteroid bell, we will fly by and that we will be attaching it to ship most likely. Miss Merkur will be here in few minutes to brief us." Shinon explained what she know about this little mission to Kin. "Other than that it will be good practice for us. We need to get used to Impulse units and working together."

"As for why we are on the ship," she said, looking young man in his eyes. He was Heisho, that meant that he either knew people or had a lot of experience and earned his rank. Shinon is going to need someone like him. "As you know this prototypal ship, being launched for its test. It will most likely have some new technology. Also Origin has technology almost as advanced as we do, and this was joint-project. This ship has to extremely advanced. Now if I were NMX overlord and I would hear about this, I would want this shipt, but since this ship is flying in far from enemy lines, I would have to sneak in to get it. To do it I would have to either use one small ship that has chance of getting it, or using parasites and infiltrate Yamataian or Nepleslian vessel and that get us. If they know about this ship that is. We are all trained Yamataian soldiers and as this is Yamataian ship we will be guarding it with our lives. I do not know if there is already threat to this ship, but if there is one we need to be ready. Does that answer your question Nakamure-heisho?" She answered in lengthy way with smile.

Yoko grinned back at the engineer at her remark.

"Yea, but if it beats too hard oa fast, we go kaboom!" the head engineer replied. As her side of the clamps came undone, she did her best to catch the heavy, heavy object and slow it's fall, dropping it down onto the floor decks without denting or otherwise damaging anything. She then began shoving the expired plasma conduit away. "Same times, if it stops, wea goin nowhere and might choke in a few houas, yaknow? It's a balance kinda thing," She added, resetting the base of the clamps so that they would act as a kind of shelf they could lift up and place the new conduit on.

"Ok, on threes, we lift it, oh kay? One...two...THREE!"

"Confirmed, Kuma shuttle. You have permission to continue on your course, please be advised that shuttles enter the front of this craft, we will be opening the door for you in a moment."

With that, the Captain of the Genesis gave the order to open the hangar bay, and a very slight noise could be heard from the bowels of the ship as the loading ramp, which served as the hangar door, descended, opening the hangar bay to space. before it had even opened, the doorway had been covered by an electromagnetic containment field, which would allow the shuttle to pass through, without letting out the atmosphere.

************

"Mister Gruelik, I believe your presence is required in the hangar" a sudden voice from the ceiling called to Rued; it was that of the ship. "There is a shuttle coming in for landing soon, and we need you to inspect it."

*************

Spencer's datapad would suddenly vibrate, alerting him that a message had been received. the message, sent by the ship's computer, was simple text.
Code:
Shuttle incoming with medical supplies. Please find physician and coordinate the inventory with them, once the shuttle has passed security clearance.

Evelyn, as well, would find herself receiving a similar message:
Code:
Shuttle incoming with medical supplies. Please find quartermaster and coordinate the inventory with them, once the shuttle has passed security clearance.

************

"That will suffice for the moment." Kin answered to Shinon, bowing slightly. He made a gesture as if to adjust a pair of glasses, but, finding them not there, he chuckled softly to himself, and then stood at attention. "We are now ready for whatever work we have been assigned, then, I believe" the Heisho looked in turn at each of the pilots, whom all nodded in agreement, finally of all his gaze stopped on Mako, waiting for her agreement or disagreement.

Whether he got it or not, their mission finally came to them, in the form of a redheaded woman, Sierra, most of them would recognize her as. "Oh, good, you're all here!" she noted, seeming glad of the fact. "Now could we scoot to one side a bit? there's a shuttle coming in!" It was clear to the assembled PA team that Sierra had become rather excited at all the hubub and busyness going on aboard the Genesis, and she was ready to give her orders. Once the assembled had moved a bit, she turned to Shinon.

"Alright, it seems that our first mission comes from Origin. As you may or may not know, the dead planet Dawn station currently orbits is being terraformed. One of the Key ingredients is, of course, water. So, once we've received the incoming shuttle, and passed all the tests, we will be traveling to the asteroid belt and finding ourselves a comet! It's your job to head to the comet, and anchor it to the Genesis, so that we can drag it into a decaying orbit, to eventually crash into the planet and introduce that most useful of elements back to its surface. any questions?"

"Finally," he grunted, getting on his feet. A brisk walk got him to the elevators. Feeling lethargic, he was going to opt for the stairs instead but found the ship utterly lacking. "Ship, I'm pretty sure lack of stairwells qualifies as a safety hazard. Life-threatening I believe is the word the prosecution would use." The elevator softly chimed its presence.

The hangar itself was already heavily populated by the military's workhorses as well as Rüd's supreme authority on the ship: Sierra Merkur. Were she not in the middle of what he judged a briefing by the sounds of it, Rüd would have greeted her. As it stood, he simply turned his attention to the inbound medicine mule. It was his job to ensure that not only were all the goods accounted for, but that nothing else was being smuggled in.

Mako nodded in agreement. She was ready to go out and try this all out. A the Sierra laid out the plan, she was kind of disappointed with it. she was hoping for combat. But her job was to follow orders, and those orders were to herd space water then that is what she'll do. After Sierra finished with her brief Mako looked to Shinon for the exact plan.

"Okay everyone scoot over to the wall and make space for the shuttle," Shinon ordered her teams, when she finished putting her armour on.

A comet? What a joke. It must have meant that this ship had no proper anchor system, not that Shinon would know if any other ships tends to have things as that. Shinon would imagine so, but she was infantrywoman not a ship officer so she could not know. Her specialty were guns and armours not ships.

"Hmm I wish we had Mindy armours or at least Daisies with space module." Shinon said after hearing the job. "But do now worry we will manage. What I wan to know is how big is this comet, what about the ice-shards usually flying around and of course if you want us to get to the surface on our own or if we will be using shuttle. I presume you will want us to attach some kind of anchor to the comet so we can haul it off."

Shinon really did not mind this job. It was to make a planet better, make it place where people can live one day. That was a good thing. She also looked at Kin to see his face and how he takes this mission.

Shuttle

The pilot gave a nod at the message rechecked her flight path to ensure that she was flying toward the Genesis's shuttle bay, and not toward an area where there was no shuttle bay.

She brought up the ships schematics using that which she had downloaded before heading here, the layout of the ship was present in her mind. At that very moment, she did several calculations and landing trejectories until she came to one that would suit her.

"Bringing her in," she muttered as she dipped below the ship slightly and began to moved into the shuttle bay. When she saw the shield, she readjusted her angle slightly, noticing that at her approuch she would've scrapped the top of the shuttle against the top of the bay, not something she wanted to do on her first day on the job.

As she brought the shuttle through the field, she couldn't help but be amazed at how large the bay was, there was so much room here that she had her pick of parking places. I'll park her over there.. she beamed and brought it down gently on the deck.

She waited for a moment while the ship settled down, and monitored the shuttles systems to ensure nothing goes wrong.

Spencer seemed to appear behind Rüd in a convenient manner, tapping away at his datapad. He'd come from the opposite side of the ship passing through the head on his way from the Armory.

"Garlic." He greeted nonchalantly with a tip of his hat, seemingly engrossed in his work, "Y'here for the shuttle, too?"

Masami nodded in response to Rikou's second request, not having decided how to handle the first one yet. She would definitely rather meet the person in charge of "security" in person than just over the ship's systems, at least at first, though, so the second request was simple indeed to decide upon. She turned to make her way off of the ship's bridge without another word, only a measured, smooth parting bow to Rikou as she went. When she arrived in the hangar, following the other crew member's who had been requested, she remained behind those earlier arrivals, remaining as unobtrusive as her rather distinctive garb would allow. She wanted a chance to observe without influencing, at least to begin with, since how the new arrival interacted with the crew would tell her something about them all.

Yoko said:
"It's a balance kinda thing,"
"Indeed it is, balance... and fl-Ooo" she huffed out as she lifted the conduit on three with controlled might.

"Ok, careful now... A single malfuctioning artery... can disrupt... an entire beating system, even slightly..." Amethyst paused and guided the conduit to it's clamps in sync with Yoko. As it locked into place she secured her side of the clamps, wiped her forehead and continued "even slightly, but sometimes that's just enough to bring the whole off kilter"

Amethyst settled back for a moment, sitting down and resting her arms in her lap. She took her time to look over her partner in conduit-replacing-crime.

"Are you Ne-... no... wait... how to ask this..." She paused for another moment "How do you identify, culturally speaking?..." Amethyst asked, then pondered on the question, and then the answer she would give it herself, if it were asked of her... This pondering took rather long, so she shrugged and looked curiously at Yoko "Unless we don't have time for chit chat, which we probably don't"

"Natürlich," came the rolling rumble of an answer. "I hope you'll take up any discrepancies or unusual deliveries with me. I'm supposed to ensure it's all proper and in its place as well, so you'll hear from me if anything is... inappropriate." With his head tilted in the Quartermaster's direction, the Abwehran caught sight of some unusual material on his periphery. Turning a little further, he recognized it as the fit and form of a Samurai- the Samurai he had challenged to a sparring match, no less. Having no business with her at current, the Nightwalker's gaze again settled on the landing shuttle.

Inside Shuttle

Lina grumbled to herself as she rechecked, double checked, and even triple checked, the manifest. She was physically checking the cargo to ensure it was all here, but also, to make sure nothing had been tampered with.

She might be new to this ship, and new to the crew, but she still had an obligation to ensure no harm came to them. She had failed in that department in her last duty station, something she regretted, but now she had to ensure that same thing it didn't happen again.

Looking down at one of the medical crates; she looked it over, then marked it off on the manifest. She was kneeling down beside it as the shuttle rear door began to slowly open. "Ok, that's it for the crates, everything appears in order there..." she muttered to herself and strolled on over to where the hygine supplies were presently laying and began to triple check them as well.
