RP Fall of Himiko Ch.1: Desperation

Planet Himiko
Dingy Storage Facility

Menelik had already been walking to the main door of the storage facility when the woman stormed in... and beyond training his guns on her (and off her, once things were explained), he admitted felt a bit sheepish. Not for threatening the prancing, self absorbed fop, though. He felt bad because, well.

"Ah suppose dat yer car getting wrecked was mah fault, miss." He said in his twangy drawl, nodding his head to her without offering a hand- he didn't trust this third rate civilian armorsuit as far as he could throw it, and didn't want to crush her hand with the grip. "Mah apologies. Now, Miss Masumi, while y'all are in that there tank, ah suppose ah'll be keeping up and keeping y'all covered?"

YSS Nishitama, Military Sector

Matsuvo made his way to where his Mindy 4 was. This suit had been with him from his first posting on the Kaiyo, through his service on the Eucharis, and since then it had sat in storage, while he ran errands around Nishimata. Strange though it was, after months of tedium, he was almost glad to see it again. The curves and sharp points of the armor, and the bristling weapons load. It was as he had last left it, the way he had taken it out for the solo mission he had undertaken just before the Eucharis was decommissioned.

That mission had been a shitshow, but it had been on a smaller scale. This was looking to be a much bigger mess. He suited up, and then traipsed back to where the rest of the unlikely group of allies was. "It's been a while, but this suit should hold up fine. It kept me alive during the Eucharis' last mission, it should do okay now."

YSS Dawn Hammer, Bridge

The bridge crew worked hard trying to maintain course as air slipping past the shields and pushing its way into the belly of the crumpled hull. Power levels, though much too high, were stable until an alert chimed, an automated engineering report informing of a massive drop in coolant pressure.

Looking to Kaede, “it’s not my call to make, but it might be time to order the crew to abandon ship.”

YSS Dawn Hammer, Reactor Bay

“Honestly, this is a complete guess. The Aether is best described as a ‘ubiquitous sea

of energy’ and a reactor basically opens a portal to that dimension,” he explained to Hiroshiko as the bomb slowly formed, “right now the the ‘portal’ is fully open, so what we need to do is disconnect the reactor from the aether. And that’s where the subspace detonators come, they cause distortions in subspace and should break the link. Just one squeeze of this here remote and pop- no more aether... I’m Dirjon, by the wa-“

His words were cut short as Reaper explosively reappeared, hurling the engineer into a bulkhead and he remote clattering to the floor where he once stood.

Both Moriah and Magenta instinctively raised their arms and opened fire with their forearm weapons. Reaper swiftly danced a gymnastic routine as his subarm weapons fired back. In a moment the reactor bay had become a battleground. Seeing her inability to land solid hits Magenta fired up her aether thrusters and charged the Elysian, only to be kicked into an idle forklift.

Moriah had greater success as she grappled from behind, though the much bigger opponent would have none of it. His powerful, mechanized wings caught her by the arms and flipped her overhead as he spun about. The glow of her wing thrusters was the only warning of the disaster to follow as a beam of white hot aether cleaved through the zesuaium armor plating bisecting the soldier perfectly in half. As the thrusters fired each half of Moriah soared different directions into the coolant lines leading to and from the reactor.

Frost covered the floor and walls as noxious fumes of ammonia and other similarly dangerous, heavy gasses burst into the atmosphere. “Moriah!” cried Magenta as she again charged the winged menace. Reaper staged his scythe in preparation to counter only to find himself in an armlock Dirjon grappled to his swinging arm. Magenta’s pointed knee punctured shield and metal plating as it spiked into the man’s chest and carried him as they both slammed into the reactors durandium plating.

“Lucky shot, kid,” Reaper’s helmet speaker announced over the cacophonous racket of the dying reactor. Grabbing her stabbing leg he pulled her out and slammed her into the floor, indenting her into the alloy flooring.

Not risking a shot from his PEW missing and hitting the already unstable reactor Dirjon rushed toward the intruder with a blade of plasma ignited from his wrist weapon, thrusting for the neck. Reaper ducked swinging his scythe but only striking the zesuaium shield and being knocked aside by the fast reacting Daisy.

As the reactor bay reached dangerously low temperatures the fight devolved into something of a petty fistfight ending in Dirjon being thrown against the same forklift Magenta had hit with enough force to hear a sickeningly wet snap over the chaos. Reaper dragged his scyth, searing the floor as he stepped toward Dirjon who lay slumped against the small vehicle. As he raised his deadly blade for an overconfident execution a full salvo of flares and subspace missiles erupted from Dirjon’s countermeasure pods, swarming the Elysian as the downed combat engineer drew his Armor Service Pistol and emptied all 50 rounds into the fireworks show.

As the smoke settled against the gaseous haze the fearsome Reaper was gone, traces of blood remaining. Dirjon didn’t know much about his situation besides the cold, and yet also the heat. The reactor was smoking, and his body was freezing the cold seeping straight to his bones even through the armor.

He could only hope Hiroshiko had the good sense to have fled the bay before being overtaken by the gunfire or cryogenic fluids and gasses that had now surrounded him and entombed in his armor, now too cold for the nanomuscle to function. One by one subsystems we’re going off-line and all he could do was watch, even as the transparent durandium beneath the armored faceplate of his helmet iced over.

Through the glaze he could see Magenta struggling to stand, her M2-4 naturally more resistant to the cold but obviously succumbing to the cryogenically chilled atmosphere. With one heavy foot over another she defiantly forced the spherical bomb into her arms and plodded on towards the breached coolant pipe closest to the reactor. After pressing hard against the distressed pipe the osmiridium ball fit perfectly into the unaffected section, rolling into the core of the reactor.

With the payload delivered Magenta kept fighting pressing onwards toward Dirjon now but falling short as she fell to her knees. Her nanomuscle had finally frozen, even through the nonconducting zesu plating. He reached out to her with his telepathy but received back only her fear, anger, and desperation in response. Being Dirjon’s third death he responded with only his hope, knowing they’d be brought back from death, if only in his mind.

As his consciousness no drifted quickly away Dirjon sent out his last telepathic broadcast as far and wide as he could muster addressed specifically to Hiroshiko...

“Detonate.”

YSS Nishitama, Military Sector

“Do it, Rikun- but SAINT-up anything classified,” Candon instructed as he stepped off the armor rack checking the aether sidearm on his hip and the two ASBRs stored behind his head on their shoulder mounts, “Rohan, I’ll tell Alpha what we’re doing. Your ladies need you at the helm.”

With a brief, armor-clad handshake Rojon departed to lead the operation, heading into the waiting Type 31 Dropship.

Addressing Rikun and Matsuvo, Candon now took a more professional tone, “alright, here’s what we’re doing. Any minute now the enemy cruisers will make it over the city. Their attention will be towards the ground. Our job is to hit them from above. We’ll be swatting fighters, shuttles, anything that’ll give our troops on the ground a hard time. Our idea is to lob a ton of subspace missiles over the area, teleport in, make a mess, and then get out. I recommend having a capacitor so you can make a quick teleport out before it crashes. Afterwards we regroup with the regular forces.”

At this time yet another cadence started and the century began boarding the dropship.

Planet Himiko, Storage Facility

As the group at the storage facility finished preparations the two battered cruisers hovered high in the skies above, shuttles descending along with small golden specs scattering throughout the city. The Rikugun base was under heavy assault artillery, missiles, and beam weapons flashing under the afternoon sun as the rumbles of explosions echoed throughout the city.

From the passenger seat of Anju’s convertible Masumi took command of the ad-hoc convoy.

“Alena, Thad, take point in the tank and remember to turn on the shield generator,” she directed, “it’s just a pair of Daisy barrier shields on the front so make sure you face whatever is shooting at you. That’s a 35mm machine gun- it’s basically a small cannon.”

“Anju, If we find anything too big for the tank I need you to get me into a position where I can launch a rocket. We only have four so we need to make them count,” she continued, “Menelik, you’re our rearguard, if they hit the car we might not be able to kill the heavy stuff.”

“Our first stop is west-north to another supply house, we’re taking a right out of the facility and a left at the intersection heading west for 9 klicks. Roll out when ready.”

YSS Dawn Hammer, Reactor Bay

Hiroshiko very much had the right sense to flee from the Angel of Death when he materialized once again amongst them. Thankfully her fight or flight response had not completely taken over in time for her to draw her NSP and dive to take a hold of the detonator.

With it safely in one hand and Daisy helmet still on, she fired pointless heavy shots at the Elysian as she used her inertia abilities to propel herself towards the lower deck and into the maze of maintenance conduits.

Maintenance Conduit

Gaining some distance into the ship's bowels. She stopped for a moment and started to recollect herself. Why does that stupid bird keep coming at the worse times? Why could she not figure out what he had done to the reactor? Why was she so worthless to do anything against it or for the ship?

"Detonate"

That simple word stopped her path of self-criticism. She might not have felt much of the cold bitting pain Dirjon was going through, but she knew that was the word of a dying man. She looked down at the detonator and flipped the safety off.

"Thank you Dirjon." She said in a futile attempt to communicate back to him as she hit the trigger of the detonator.

"Bridge, Mizumitsu-hei. The teleporting Elysian has returned. Ulvson-hei and his team were last fighting him, but I fear the worse." She said through secure channels as she listening for the explosion and monitoring the engineering feed of the reactor.

If she did not, she would start moving back towards the bay, constantly hitting the trigger.

Planet Himiko, Storage Facility

Thad was sticking out the hatch of the tank swinging his sword around. He was either playing around or legit trying to see how far he could reach if they got close enough to use it. "Hear you loud and clear Masumi. We shall lead the charge." As he finished speaking he pointed his sword facing forward. "Let us be off to glory and victory." He again was swinging his sword around like a mad man.

Anju was a little startled by how things had suddenly progressed from talking to these people to suddenly being in her car. She'd pointed out that she thought Menelik was a rather polite individual, going so far as to say that to the man. The Sund Wakir woman simply nodded in response to Masumi, granted she had her means of ripping some poor bastard Kuvexian suit apart. With a shake of the head, the convertible thrummed as she hit the accelerator as her car did a one-eighty. The vehicle whirred as it sped toward their destination even as in the background the battle at the planet's fort went on.

Poor bastards, they were going to lose no matter how many they managed to take down. A twist of distaste played on the assassin's lips. Next time she would emphatically tell the corporate reps she worked for to fuck off. She wasn't getting paid enough for this. And if she did survive? Well, she was going to put in for hazard pay.

Even so, the day on Himiko was splendid, warm, nary a cloud in the sky and the wind whipped over the car. It was enough for her to take off her helmet and enjoy it, but things being the way they are... instead, Anju pulled forth the big revolver and began fiddling with it. Using her knees to keep them driving straight, her nimble fingers worked deftly at their assigned task. Unloading two of the bullets in the revolver and replacing them with an individual crimson and violet set of bullets. The spent cartridge was tossed out and replaced with another bright red bullet.

The hand cannon's cylinder snapped shut as she kept it on her lap. Hands back on the wheel lest the woman in the passenger seat begin bitching about her driving skills. Ahh... what she wouldn't give to go back and enjoy the night before again. To forget the fact a full-on invasion was happening. She flicked on the radio, knowing full well there'd be no music but updates or simple broadcast alerts over the radiowaves. Granted, Anju desired to listen in on the Yamataian battlenet.

"Can you get me into the Yamataian's battlenet, hear what is going on?" the blacksuit-clad woman said aloud. She then looked over to Masumi. " It might help matters on our end."

Alena finished loading the tank with the supplies she thought they would need, and signaled to Thad to start the tank moving. She hopped up ontop, and slid into the Gunner's position, putting on a remarkable display of flexibility in doing so. She grinned as she took the controls, "This was one toy we never had on Essia."

Menelik was sure that he was going to die here, at least if things kept going as they were. He was absolutely, positively dead- his body just didn't know it yet. Still, orders were orders, and Masumi was more likely than anyone to reign in the idiot who would get them killed than anyone.

So the heavy Zytone began following the tank, a few paces behind it as Menelik scanned the surroundings and rear- and sky, especially- to look out for any more ambushes by the Kuvexians.

Rikun rolled her eyes a little as Candon told her to SAINT-ify her communications as if she didn't do that already. She sighed and began to make sure her suit was outfitted as she was told to with the extra capacitor, the right countermeasures, and everything she needed otherwise, but for the moment she just waited to see if her sister was going to return her message.

Establishing Connection: OK!
Proxy Network Connection: Green
Connection Status: Green
Recipient: Shichou, Rikun

There was no reply at first, however, text scrolled through and embedded itself in Rikun's mind.

Code:
You are lucky I am back in YSE Space. This might be only time I will be able to do this.
the response was terse, blunt and all Tai.

What followed gave the mental impression of an open mic ready to be used followed by what appeared to be an attempt to establish a secure connection to the Star Army offices. Offices that could take over and see the news Rikun may tell them and all the flak that would come with it.

Kaede was silent for several seconds. Fear? No. Shock, or surprise? No. His chiseled face had transcended the hardness of stone in anger, as he desperately fought the very atmosphere of the planet itself, the Sharie his avatar in defiance. The only thing that broke him from the trance-focus was the spoken words of the armored Chujo.

“It’s not my call to make, but it might be time to order the crew to abandon ship.”

The commanding officer's emerald eyes closed calmly. He raised his head from its lowered position.

"You're right. Nothing the crew could do would help us now, and their lives should not be spent so falsely."

"All Hands, this is Shosa Sutoikku Kaede. You know our situation. Abandon ship."

His lips pressed together into a firm, invisible line. In front of him, his wife was successfully fighting tears as she triggered the abandon ship alarm, and then checked her console's readout again. She made her own command, as she was trusted to: "Bridge team: hold tight and make sure you're strapped in. We don't have the time to reach any lifepods before we land."

Even with the power being out - again - there was enough of a reserve to keep parts of the ship operational. Both the commanding and executive officers focused everything the ship had into amplifying the shield generator; whenever, however the reactor would meltdown, it would be contained to the immediate area of the ship. The Dawn Hammer's hull would absorb most of the blast - but it was much, much more durable and capable of withstanding such a blast than the city ever would be.

Matsuvo was boarding the shuttle with the rest of the group from the military sector. Whatever the coming battle would bring, he was equipped to meet it. "After this, what next?" He asked Candon, "Do we have any sort of plan?"

YSS Dawn Hammer, Bridge

I didn’t take long for escape pods and shuttles to begin departing the Dawn Hammer. In the distance the mountain began to take the form of a grain of rice.

YSS Dawn Hammer, Hallway to the Reactor Bay

Alarms blared throughout the halls, the mangled pathways drowned in red emergency lighting. With only dead bodies for company, Hiroshiko would need to remember well the layout of the ship should she hope to escape the doomed ship.

YSS Nishitama, Military Sector

Matsuvo asked the answer was given as a telepathic dossier swept over the crowd of troops. The maneuver fleshed out in detail. The soldiers began filing into the dropship with the final opportunity to review the task of falling, launching subspace missiles, and teleporting through the holes made in the shields of enemy vehicles.

Planet Himiko, Leaving Storage Facility

The small caravan pulled out with the tankette in the lead. Without clearing even a kilometers distance the battle in the sky had finally made it to the ground. Their warning came in the form of a golden shuttle passing overhead, anyone with military experience knew they’d been spotted.

Masumi took charge, “Thad, turn left and get into the garage of the office building, it’s zesu reinforced! Point the nose to cover the entrance!”

“Anju, get around the tank and enter the garage first, we might need the car for a quick getaway! Menelik, we’ll need defensive positions, see if you can move the cement barricades dividing lanes in the street!”

YSS Dawn Hammer, Hallway to the Reactor Bay

Despite her best efforts, it seemed that she has utterly failed as a technician. Still hefting the premium repair kit in its bad and the detonator in the other one, she was left with two choices: head for the nearest escape pods and live with her failure or stay standing exactly where she was and die with the ship. For the briefest of moments, she was considering the latter. But then she noticed a Type 41 Star Army Rifle lying next to a fallen Neko and that triggered something within her.

"What, you quitting on me kiddo? No child of mine quits! Now pick up that rifle and move out!" Hiroshiko's imagining of Mikael Harris' voice suddenly pops up in her mind.

"Eeek!" Was the only sound that came out of her as she then scrambled to pick up the rifle. She also picked up and magazines there and along the way as she just kept saying "Yes sir!" to the nearest escape pod according to the ship's standard schematics she kept in her mind. It would be a strange sight if anyone was around to see.

Anju's convertible had been at the rear of the tankette. While missing the opportunity to see the incoming shuttle, the Sund Wakir woman gave a curt nod to Masumi's order, the car swerved past the plodding war machine taking the first position. Tthose in the car would see the miniature tank now in the background. Anju remained silent as she navigated past abandoned vehicles, though she took a moment to look as they passed. It was almost startling at how empty the streets seemed of life, there were vehicles of course, but hardly a soul to drive or ride in them.

Hands firmly on the wheel, the convertible continued its thrumming of the engine and the momentary silence in the car at that moment. Thinking of her odds of surviving this quickly deteriorating situation hurt her head and made it race in turn. Shaking her head to try and rid herself of such things at that moment, Anju's hands tightened on the steering wheel as she thought of just how shitty of a situation she was in.

Of course, Menelik got to work as soon as the orders had been snapped out to him. The Nepleslian stayed quiet beyond an "Aye", the hefty form of the Zytone moving with the deft, if clunky, movements of someone used to working in power armor. The heavy concrete barriers, reinforced with metal, were easy enough to move.

Soon enough, Menelik had set up not just one, but two lines of barriers: a forward set, with gaps arranged to funnel anyone stupid enough to come in on foot into killing fields of fire; and a fighting position with barriers and rubble stacked just tall enough to cover the tankette and the zytone while still allowing them to fire over it.

In the front of the command center, Arria sighed angrily and double-checked her straps. It was impossible to do her main job now, since the power was practically out.

Kaede nodded solemnly as he received the reports of the escape pods and shuttles disembarking from the Dawn Hammer's hull, balancing his focus between the status of his crew and the dropping power level. They should be able to hold out through the impact - at least enough to prevent the reactor's explosion from scarring the planet's surface. The ship itself, however, is likely to be torn apart by the impact and explosion...

YSS Dawn Hammer, Bridge

Flames continued licking the bridge cameras as the hulking form dropped, the crew performing magnificently under the pressure of a potentially lethal impact pressing coming up to meet them. Warnings began to illuminate screens as pieces of the battered hull began to break off, fire bursting in through the new openings and turning outermost halls of the once glorious veteran ship to slag.
Onward the ship fell toward its destination.

YSS Dawn Hammer, Hallway to the Reactor Bay

The chaotic squeal of the hull bending and unnaturally stretching echoed throughout the halls as Hiroshiko dashed for the nearest row of escape pods. Panels fell from the ceiling and walls of the corridors as she ran, small fires filling the air with the sickening aroma of burning silicone under the glow of only red emergency lighting.

Finally coming to the pods she would find a lone infantrywoman in a severely damaged M2-2D waving her in.

“C’mon, We’re it! Get in!” she yelled over the commotion of the interior tearing itself to pieces, pulling the engineer into the pod. As Hiroshiko strapped in the soldier activated the ejection sequence just as the deafening roar of fire swept over the hatch, closing only just in time.

Hiroshiko’s stomach would drop as the pod exploded out from within the armored hull with a harsh BANG. The air showed no mercy as it pulled the small capsule every direction, the pod tumbled end over end for what felt like forever before the automated guidance systems regained control of their decent. The plotted course aligned their trajectory to the water a few klicks from the military base, yet without rescue that wouldn’t do.

Quick thinking from the infantry neko, the woman who clearly knew what she was doing remotely assumed manual control pointing the pod toward land and prepared the thruster for another burn. She knew that the more time they spent falling was more time the enemy would have to swat their pod. “Brace yourself, this landing will be rough!”

Type 31 Dropship, departing YSS Nishitama

The cadence of nearly 100 women tightly packed into the dropship would have been deafening had their helmets not been soundproof. Over a private channel Candon gave slightly different instructions to the newly formed Alpha squad.

“Guys, I am not a leader and I’m being hunted by people that might very seriously be too much for me to handle, but it appears that they want to take me alive, so I have an advantage here but I wouldn’t be able to focus on commanding this mission if I tried. I don’t need to remind you of what these people are capable of so of one of them attack me I need you to focus on this aerial assault and destroy as much enemy air support as possible. I’ll lead those nasty ones away and keep them busy until Rohan regroups his century with the Rikugun,” he ordered, though not as their superior but rather as their peer, “Oh, and in the off chance I get separated see if you can make contact with my wife, Oshiro Masumi and tell her I need Spectre. She’ll know what I’m talking about.”

Yellow warning lights flashed and a klaxon blared a warning as the air was pumped out of the troop compartment, it’s awful squelching slowly fading out as the pressure inches closer and closer to zero. A white fog momentarily rushed out from between the opening bay doors as the remainder of the atmosphere was released.

Through the radio chatter came a statement liable to inspire loneliness in any soldier familiar to the art of space warfare,
Be advised, this is the YSS Nishitama preparing to fold. Repeat, Nishitama is departing the system,” came the admiral’s aged, burly voice sounded over the ‘air’, “good luck and Godspeed, dear allies. May the gods be with you.

In a moment the last capital ship in orbit, their best chance of escape was gone. Still, there was no time to feel despair as the flashing yellow lights turned a solid green.

The “go, go, go!” of sergeants ushering troops out the door now reigned king as the tightly packed century poured out of the bay into the void, falling into the planets gravity like an orbital carpet bombing.

Leading the pack were Daisys lining up with their shields in a way to resist the atmospheric friction for the rest of the small army. All was good until the first aurora lit the sky in an electromagnetic rainbow. The Mindys piled in behind the Daisys even as comms and navigation were lost. The trained group know from their practice runs, full power to shields and forget about propulsion. The troopers played the part of a precisely aimed bomb as they relaxed and enjoyed the ride. Falling was the easy part, even as the flames of a burning atmosphere encircled the party.

Only minutes later the cluster loomed over the battlefield. The fighting had spread from an intense bombardment of the base to total urban warfare as firefights occupied nearly every street. This team, however, was hunting air support. As the fighters, shuttles, and bombers came into view hundreds of subspace missiles poured from the countermeasure pods of the formation.

Simultaneously The Reaper flashed into existence cleaving through six of the soldiers making a beeline for Candon, or rather, Torēsu who knew immediately.

“I’ll lead him off, take out those flyers or we’re all dead!” he yelled, barrel-rolling out of formation, Reaper in hot pursuit leaving the century to do their job.

Planet Himiko, Office Tower Parking Lot

There wasn’t a moment to lose as a dozen Rixxicor began firing down from the 1st story balcony of the building across the street with plasma rifles while a dozen more began assaulting the entrance from positions on the ground led by a pair of armored Graxlat firing plasma machine guns. As the two groups exchanged fire neither party gained nor lost ground.

The sound of raging battle grew from beyond merely their own firefight. No one could have known what would happen next. With a mighty CRASH glass and stone fell onto the ground of Rixxicor, killing at least 10.

Planet Himiko, Office Tower across the street

Firmly embedded in the superstructure of the build across from the parking garage was the Type 30 escape pod, lucky to have been stuck between the zesu supports as opposed to a direct collision. Regardless, after the massive impact, blunted by the inertial dampener, Hiroshiko would open her eyes to see the interior crumpled inwards though luckily not enough to cause harm to the occupants. The pod had done its job, but with a firefight only five floors below and fires starting on around the floor she was far from safety.

From her vantage she would be able to see a group of 30 Rixxicor passing the street leading to the entrance, among them a pair of rocket launchers obviously up to no good.

Planet Himiko, Office

Thad followed the orders of Masumi without question. He did his part parking the tankette in the garage of the office building. The sides of the tank grinding against one wall as he full forced side slid the tank into the opening. The front of the tank facing out of the building, barrel facing down field. He was ready to light up anything foe and moving with this bad boy.

"I am in position." He called out as he popped out of the top of the tank. His sword was once again swinging in the air ready to do some damage. In his mind his sword would bring the justice, the tank would bring the rain.

His sight narrowed as he took focus on the forces fighting out in front of him. The tank barrel moved slightly and let rip a round of hugs. Target was the balcony across the street. Thad watched as an escape pod smashed into the building. He knew if friendlies be on board that his next mission was already set in motion...

Some Office Building's Garage

Anju, still driving swerved her vehicle past an abandoned car as the office building loomed ahead. The sounds of gunfire off in the distance didn't seem to be helping matters. However, she managed to swing into the garage with the thrumming of the electric engine and low screech of tires on concrete. Looking to her left, then her right, Anju looked to the woman who seemed to be in charge. She'd finished her job after all. Though she drove around so that all they'd have to do is hop in and go should the need arise.

The solid feel of her revolver on her lap brought some comfort. Regardless, she lamented the fact the rest of her kit was still in the pricey hotel suite. Stifling a curse, the Iromakuanhe allowed her fingers to curl about the weapon as she looked dead ahead.

"We're here, now what?" Anju asked as she kept her eyes on the entrance they'd come in from.
