Part 3 of my Rangers breakdown. These are individuals specialised in running PA patrols off the ships on the edges of a Fleet, or a ship that's alone someplace. They are good at scouting, hazard recognition, flanking and delay. They're not so good at being on the frontline and rely more on being on the back and sides.

Edit: It's worth noting that this is the one that's most likely to see the most usage, as it applies to everyone who is currently a Ranger aboard a plotship, or any that will be in future!

On second thought, I pull my FM stamp from this, at least for the time being:

  • Could this just not be a qualifier for the Ranger? Creating a new MOS for it feels like bloat as well.
  • I'm not seeing why the scout attachments of fleets need to be zoned off into their own MOS.
 
It was under Ranger before but I decided to split it up because Ranger was just.. massive.. was doing far too many things. Space and ground survival, scouting and combat aren't similar at all. Someone who's trained in terrestrial raiding and stealth has nothing in common with someone doing fleet-based recon runs.

In terms of zoning off, I thought that we were looking to make the MOS list more detailed. In any case, you definitely need some kind of specialised training for doing the role of unsupported scouting, hazard recognition and delay tactics. I could make it a training certificaiton but the thing is that this is a required, standing task. So it makes the most sense that people are dedicated to the task and experienced at it.
