Re: [Interlude] Compartmentalized
Waiting on an elevator... it was vaguely calming to the nerves, in that it was very, very familiar. Izual remembered his life as a Plebeian, on a starship with a largely Patrician crew. It hadn't agreed with him, really, and yet he'd survived, thrived, and risen through the loose ranks of Elysia's military anyway.
"Ah, the Elysia of today is not where I was born. Indeed, I would go so far as to say most Elysians alive today were born on Geshrintall... what is now called Yamatai... whether they're old enough to remember or not." Izual shook his head slowly. "Elysia Novus is beautiful, especially the city of Empyrean. But it is simply a reservation, a place of exile for a beaten people too prideful to make amends for the past. We are not creatures of war, much as the Senators wish it were otherwise."
Izual paused. "I can teach you whatever you'd wish to know about Elysia. The language, the poetry. The customs. The social contract. The history. It is not a happy story, but the past need not be to have valuable lessons."
