A bit like the derms in neuromancer.
Hard to believe nobody's taken the concept seriously for 40 years: It's perfect in every way for everyone except for the pharmaceutical company.

Either way, it looks promising.
I'm under the impression that color should be more to do with type and a four letter word telling you what it is. But if it's something like a release of "required to live" stuff, it makes sense to be aware.
Maybe you could indicate how much effective stuff is left in it with tone, vibrant color indicating it's good and black or white indicating it's exhausted.
EDIT:
If you sold these cheaply as painkillers (anything between asprin to morphine in function) and did so galactically, they would sell like hotcakes and every medical pack would benefit from a pack of painkillers that you could just give to a soldier and he'd know what to do with it.
Circumvents the need for injection gear and whatnot and is very very convenient.
