Siren System -- The jointly run mining system of Siren was today the site of an important meeting between top officials of Peacekeeper Heavy Industries and a delegation from the Lorath Matriarchy. These largely closed door negotiations were called at the express initiative of the Jiyuuian senator and acting CEO of PHI, Mochizuki Shiori, who, upon seeing the need for increased security of newly acquired industrial assets and improving notably tense border zone safety, reached out to her Lorath counterparts with the concept of creating a 'Joint Task Force.'
This proposed security force would be formed of former United Outer Colonies fleet assets that survived the invasion, currently laying in a mothballed state in the Surplus Starship Depot storage yards, but which could quickly be re-equipped by the company and turned to active service once more. Crewed by ex-Peacekeepers, they would be able to quickly respond to local crisis, perform escort duty and anti-piracy patrols, as well as planetary and humanitarian operations... all without the inherent political risks of directly deploying Star Army of Yamatai or LSDF assets in situations where it would inflame tensions or otherwise was not feasible to do so.
Deliberations continued for the better part of the day, but in the end the senator appeared confident at a televised press conference where she formally announced the formation of what would be known as Joint Task Force Kaguya. Transfers would begin in phases, starting first with 10 Ayana-class Escorts. Later, the addition of 5 Zahl-class cruisers, 20 Raptor-class Expeditionary ships, and 10 Nir-class colony vessels would bolster the group's numbers substantially and allow for more varied operations.
Of particular note was the Lorath's sudden addition of 20 Ionoche Light Carriers to the already impressive lineup of ships. The delegates made it very clear that this was a gesture of DATASS treaty goodwill towards the YSE, who in the past had constantly demanded that all existing ship hulls of this type once produced by Motoyoshi Fleet Yards be returned to the Star Army of Yamatai. However, considering the hundreds that are still in their possession, it will admittedly be a long time before the black-winged neighbors fully concede to such demands. For now, though, a great face-saving diplomatic victory was secured in what has always been a tense relationship between the two nations.
Still, with great power always comes great responsibility -- namely that the Matriarchy benefactors made it very clear that these ships were to be utilized foremost for border guard duty and military escort for the United Manufacturing Cooperative facilities that were left on the Yamatai side of the formerly united UOC cluster. Senator Mochizuki however won the concession that the Joint Task Force will have a degree of Star Army oversight, and can be called upon in an emergency to bolster Tenth Fleet assets through DATASS treaty mutual defense provisions.
The first of the 10 planned Ayana-class Escorts, aptly named the UCS Kaguya, is scheduled to be delivered at the beginning of YE 38 and recommissioned at Motoyoshi Fleet Yards HQ on Jiyuu III. A lavish dedication and launch ceremony is planned in the near future.
