Darkness.

A beam of light shot forth from one arm of Yuri's Mindy suit. "Ryoko, Kelsey, get your lights turned on," she ordered.

Meanwhile, Yuri examined their surroundings. They appeared to be in another corridor, with a wall directly in front of them, and paths both to their left and to their right.

"This must be another shielding mechanism," said Yuri. "Hmm, what's this?" She shined her light directly in front of her.

A diagram was pasted onto the wall.

"Probably a map. Not really helpful though."

Tyler

Ryoko turned her light on and looked at what Yuri was. "It could be or it could be some kinda of warning, I remember seeing a symbol with a picture with a strike through it like this once." She said. "Lots of them on Nepleslia when I was there, we might want to be carefully." Ryoko said and shined her light around to see what else was there.

Ryoko could see that no one had been in the corridor for a long time. A thick layer of dust was on the floor, upon which their armored boots left footprints behind them. Two ancient cigarette butts were on the ground to their left, half-covered in dust. Otherwise, the corridor was reasonably clean. No signs of insects, fungi, or anything else that could be considered living, were to be found.

Yuri set the containment chamber on the ground. It felt light in her hands, thanks to the power armor that she was wearing. She took out her handheld scanner and deftly operated the controls. "The radiation is interfering with the scanner. I'm should be able to get the scanner to compensate for it…" She said. "Let's stay put in the mean time."

After a few minutes, Yuri's scanner beeped. "Ah, here we go." She held out the scanner so that Ryoko and Kelsey could see as well:

Tyler

Ryoko looked at the display and blinked thinking for a moment. "Looks like the hatch inside to the radiation source is on the other side of the area." She said and walked down the hallway a bit looking around carefully. "No signs of life so far. It is odd no fungi, no insects… anything." she said. "Must be radiation… it could've mutated anything in here though."

Yangfan

"I doubt that anything could have survived in here for long," commented Yuri, picking up the containment chamber again with one hand. "Come on, we have a job to do."

With Ryoko and Kelsey close behind her, Yuri made her way to the first inner hatch. She gestured at the door, signaling that it was someone else's turn to do the hard work of opening the rusty doors. Kelsey managed to find a handle on the hatch, and then slid the hatch aside. After all three Nekos and the containment chamber were on the other side of the hatch, Yuri closed the hatch behind them.

Again, they made their way down the corridor, back to the side of the room nearest to the original entrance. Only this time, they were on the other side of the lead wall they had originally seen. They could see the last hatch in front of them, and knew that the radiation source was behind that hatch.

Setting the containment chamber at her side, Yuri checked her scanner again. "The radiation level behind this hatch is pretty intense. We really shouldn't stay inside more than a few minutes… Okay, Ryoko, open the hatch when you're ready."

Tyler

Ryoko nodded, she was always ready for much of anything. She nodded and moved in front of the hatch and prepared to open it. "If it is that bad you're right we shouldn't stay in, are we prepared to be able to remove the source of it safely." She asked.

She shrugged in the Mindy suit and braced herself and opened the hatch with a hissing sound as the room pressurized. She stepped inside and blinked, the radiation WAS intense, she could practically feel it. "Alright we're inside, what's next?"

Yangfan

As the Nekos stepped inside, Yuri closed the hatch behind them again, to keep the outside from being more irradiated than they already were. The Nekos could see that the concrete dome that housed the radioactive rods had been breached.

"The control mechanisms that were supposed to retract that rod back into its protective slot must have been broken," said Yuri, pointing at the glowing green rod that extended out of its blue control chamber. "That's what causing all the radiation. Still, we should remove all five rods from the premises..."

With those words, Yuri set the containment chamber, which was more or less a lead coffin, on the ground, and opened it. The inside of the containment chamber was filled with a black, spongy material, probably to keep its expected contents from shifting around.

"Let's move the rods to this container, one at a time," ordered Yuri. "I'll go first so you can see how it is done."

Yuri moved over to the concrete dome and, reaching her hand inside, slowly pulled the extended rod, which was halfway loose anyway, out of the blue control chamber. She carefully walked back to the black containment chamber, and placed the rod inside. She then walked back to the concrete dome and reached for another rod. The rod was easily lifted out of the blue control chamber.

"The rods can be lifted up pretty easily," commented Yuri as she placed the second rod inside the containment chamber. "Now you guys try it."

Tyler

Ryoko nodded having watched Yuri do it and easily learned how. She walked over and gently removed a rod and carefully brought it back to the containment unit and gently set it inside. She went to get another and removed it with as much care as one would show a baby and added it to the collection in the containment unit, then backed off for Kelsey to get the last one. "A little nerve wracking but it is okay, what'll we do with these later?"

Yangfan

Yuri shrugged. "That's up to the Taisho and Celia… We might be able to reuse a little bit of it on the ship. The rest… I suppose there is always shooting them into a star or something."

Kelsey had extracted the last rod, and gently placed it inside the containment chamber.

Carefully, Yuri closed the lid of the containment chamber, so slowly that the heavy lid did not make the slightest sound as it made contact with the rest of the chamber. The locking mechanisms were engaged as Yuri pressed a button on the chamber. She then took out her scanner again and took some readings.

"Good. The chamber is blocking out almost all of the radiation... Now let's get out of here," said Yuri, lifting up the chamber to her side with both hands, and carrying it as one would a surfboard. "Ryoko, you go in the lead. Kelsey, follow behind me and make sure all the hatches are closed."

The Nekos made their way out of the irradiated room, with Ryoko opening each hatch, and Kelsey closing each hatch behind them as they went. By the time they were outside again, they were fairly tired despite their power armors.

Motoyama, the Nishizaki twins, and Goz were waiting for them outside.

"Good job, team," said Yuri as Kelsey slammed the doors to the irradiated room shut.

Tyler

Ryoko nodded as they exited Unicorn with the radiation rods. "Well hopefully that's the only thing we have to get out of that ship. I really creeped me out, it was like....completely dead inside, an old lonely feeling." She said in a mutter. "I keep thinking of the crew that served on that ship while she was in service. It must've been scary to be marooned in a strange place without hope of rescue from familiar faces..." Ryoko said through the mindy helmet.

Yangfan

"Still," replied Goz. "They managed to start anew here on Ohara. I'd like to think that they led meaningful and satisfying lives."

"You can take your armor off now, Ryoko," said Yuri as she set the containment chamber down momentarily to remove her own. Kelsey was putting her own armor back onto the rack. "Goz, we will be returning to our ship shortly. Thank you for the tour."

Ryoko took off her armor and carefully placed it back onto the rack.

"Thank you for all your help, Yuri," answered Goz. "Come back and visit any time."

After everyone had taken their armor off, the Star Army personnel exited the museum, with Yuri and Ryoko carrying the containment chamber and the Nishizaki twins carrying the rack of armors. They could see the limo and the jeep patiently waiting for them outside. The Nishizaki twins helped Yuri load the containment chamber and the armors into the limo, and then climbed into the jeep along with Kelsey. Yuri waved at Goz before entering the limo, with Motoyama getting inside after her. Ryoko was the last one to get on the limo, and closed the door after her. She waved at Goz after rolling down the tinted glass window.

Goz waved goodbye to the vehicles as they sped away from the square.

After an uneventful journey back to the airport, the Star Army personnel loaded their gear and the containment chamber onto the two shuttles waiting for them. By this time, the crowd had mostly dispersed. Only a several policemen and a few civilian Phods remained on the paved runways. The sun was setting, painting everything a shade of bright orange.

The Phods watched as the shuttles flew silently into the evening sky.
