RP: YSS Kaiyō Mission 31: Wakusei

As soon as the battlepods made their appearance, William's mech began to belt out explosive rounds into the sky. "Way ahead of you." He replied to Hoshi and Aiko. Tracers lit up the sky as the captain performed a repeat of his earlier fireworks show. "I'll try and swat them down. Hopefully the stragglers will fly low to avoid my fire. That will make it easier for you all to take them down." He informed the rest of the mech team.

While she was approaching the battlepod formation, Sif had to seriously consider how she could reliably fight them as she currently was unarmed. Was her mech even fast enough to catch the smaller crafts? With the massive shift of perspective between her normal body and this gigantic behemoth, it was difficult to contrast speed, despite how long she had been using the machine. As such, she paid very close attention to the tiny targets which looked just about the size of a small cat compared to the Shieldless Maiden.

No, perhaps she was overthinking this. Crashing into the crafts would do significantly more damage to them than the armored frontline mech, and even then, she could stand to lose very limb so long as the core and her thrusters remained intact. Not like she needed to hold onto things anymore. However, impacts from aether weaponry were still a danger to her if left unopposed. One such opposition came from a battlepod that dived to avoid the flak from William's fire. "I got this one splitting off."

Sif shielded herself as if she was trying to block out the sun, peering through her mecha's fingers to track the craft before her other hand swung out to backhand the battlepod as if she was attempting to swat away a balloon.

"Ryokai. To think they would destroy the colony out of spite." replied Rio sourly over the comms as she watched Hoshi pass by in their respective swapped mecha. It was then that Rio realized that she had not seen Hoshi retrieve her mecha's dropped ballistic rifle. Rio quickly descended to where it had been dropped and retrieved it. Swapping the long rifle of Hoshi's machine to the shoulder that still retained it's armored wing and mount, she gave her own rifle a quick check over before syncing it to the borrowed mecha's fire control system.

With the stock of her rifle wedged into the armpit of the machine to brace it, Rio took back off towards the fight in the sky. Placing herself where she could support both William and Sif, Rio set the FCS back to it's automatic setting, allowing the rather aggressive computer to take control of both rifles while she focused on avoiding incoming fire. Now with two weapons the computer began to engage multiple targets, firing the aether long rifle at battlepods farther out and higher up while the ballistic rifle engaged battlepods evading William's flak barrages.

After stopping in mid-air following the squad's destructive victory, Molli was ready to lean back into her seat and take a moment to breathe, and perhaps soothe her pounding headache. Then additional targets blipped onto the screen, and the young soldier let out a frustrated huff. "Never ends wiv these idjits..." she grumbled to herself as the mecha's controls were gripped tightly once more. Aiko and Sif were already soaring high to meet the battlepods, and Molli's frame burned a trail right after them. Dodging long arms fire was simple in a machine that controlled like a dream, and the drills that Aiko ran for months served Molli well. Aetherfire seared close, but never impacted the spiralling starship-shaped frame, and 'ere long, Molli was surrounded by a veritable orchard of targets.

Sword in hand, Molli sought to emulate Aiko's tactics, if not her immaculate swordsmanship. Soaring from pod to pod, she set about cleaving vital components that would set the pods off course to the desert, or each other. Built for speed as her mecha was, Molli couldn't hope to cleave any of them apart, nor punch them away.

Whizzing out, William's explosive tracers pushed down on the enemies that Rio was able to take out while double fisting rifles. Combined, her more comfortable ballistic weapon shot out while the longer range sniper rifle charged up, creating a maelstrom from her handhelds. As one split off, Sif disallowed their flight with a practiced precision unbefitting her low rank. Picking off the fruits of Molli's labors in the grove of enemies, Hoshi set to work eliminating those Molli disadvantaged with her soaring strikes while Aiko continued to assist with bursts of rounds as she flew behind and around the grouping like a crimson comet.

Whatever the minuscule cluster of battlepods had been attempting to do, it was thwarted quickly and effortlessly by the team of mecha. Though battleworn and in differing states of disrepair, the Kaiyo crewmen had been fighting for more than an hour by now and were more than warmed up.

Hoshi huffed out breathlessly, "I appreciate you crewmen, those new to the ship and those with it since her maiden voyages. Good work out here today. Even if you completely obliterated your weapon, wrecked your mecha, or lost your shield, you did not lose your way or bend to the enemy." She looked up then, at the Mishhuvurthyar starships being torn into by the giant Izanagi. The blooming destruction in space was dazzling, but she looked down to the embers of the empty city outside of Urtullan's iridescent domed colony. "Let us hope our efforts were not in vain and the people of Urtullan do not aid the Mishhuvurthyar further. For now, I do want to emphasize my appreciation. Let's fly back to the ship. Aratani can scan the surface to be sure of our mission's total success in eliminating these new Killthyar machines from future battlegrounds, not just this one."
