Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Ah, it's just a feelin' on my part." said Asher, shrugging. "Y'know, tha' whole' 'wantin' your hands in Ayama's bowels so y'can wear her insides like a belt.' Oh, and there's also tha' whole, 'eagerness t'spill blood.' Personally, I find that sort'a personality attractive, but thass' juss' me."

"Honestly? I'm juss' wonderin' where it comes from." asked Asher, a genuine twinge of curiosity in his voice.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Nyton grinned, almost ecstatic at the turn of events. Apparently he had been convincing enough because Amaya followed through exactly how he had been coached to lead her. The screen before him allowed him to see the chaos and it was thrilling to see the enemy receive such a nasty surprise. It stirred the warrior soul in him to see the actual NH-23 Kotori, their canned goods, destroy her foes with such efficiency. It was so satisfying to his stirred bloodlust that while she was going on a rampage aboard the Dominion it made him wonder if maybe he had fallen in love. Then he saw Kotori, his Kotori this time, appear and he couldn't decide which one he loved more. Her orchestration of such a magnificent deception had been so beautiful in it's application of the very basics that he swore he could feel a stirring in his loins. Or maybe it was just the adrenaline rush from the battle.

Either way Nyton used the strength he had gathered, along with the recovery offered by the hemosynthetic fluid, to stand up. Quickly but definitely not gracefully he made his way to the Tactical Console. "Roger that your highness!" he energetically replied. He sat down, glanced quickly to see if his spare cybernetic eye in a box had survived the destruction along with the connection to his Fast Time link, and picked up where Miyoko had left off.

Torpedo loading arms moved quickly to load up two AS-7-1-TA torpedoes since the enemy was still too close to use the more powerful AS-7-1-AM ones. Along with the torpedoes he uncovered the positron turrets and prepared the main cannon for pulse mode. He quickly double checked the weapon pods for any losses caused by the damage they had taken as well as get an idea on power levels available.

"Freeman-Juni, how much power do we have for weapons?"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Tom was walking swiftly back to the subdeck, parting ways with a very confused but relieved Ichigo. There would certainly be a lot of explaining to do, but that would have to come after they finished.

A volumetric window tracked with him as he walked.

"Ship power is at normal levels," Tom began his report to the bridge for all to hear. "Capacitor power at 16% but rising rapidly. We're fine on that front. Armor's another matter. No breaches yet, but we're banged up all over. The outer layer is rent, inner layer stable but we can't take many more hits if you want us flying in good shape. Temperatures could be better, but we're running low on coolant. Repair pods on standby but we need time to get them out."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

The battle on-board the Dominion's bridge was still ongoing and one of the nekovalkyrja flew into view. She was hovering in reverse, firing at something behind the camera before a blood-speckled Kotori caught up with a prodigious flying leap to make an overhead slash of the double-pronged sword. The blades cracked through a collarbone top sink down to the lower ribs before the NH-23 Kotori freed one hand from the handle to slam her enemy into the head with her fist violently enough to turn the targeted area into so much gore.

Panting and smarting from a few energy pistol wounds, the NH-23 tore the aetheric saber-rifle out of its latest victim and quickly approached the console Amaya formerly occupied.

"Status?" the yukata-clothed Kotori on Miharu's bridge asked.

"Amaya slipped away," the original Kotori said. "I've set the linked ships into maintenance mode. The gate's shields and defense systems are offline. The Mishhu gunship and the Vampire are down for good, but the Nozomis have MEGAMIs too and might override it in a minute."

"Thank you," the real Taisa nodded gratefully at her older counterpart. "Amaya has either a Kylie or a Lion shuttle. Try to stop her before she can leave."

The NH-23 nodded and left to bend next to the broken Black Mindy and trip open its leg compartment to filch from it a battery for her weapon. She then flew for the exit.

On Miharu's bridge, Kotori minimized the comm window and said:

"Yukari, increase our pitch angle by ninety degree and go into reverse with thrusters only until we are 50 000 kilometers from the enemy vessels."

Counting on Yukari to have Miharu turn her nose up and go into reverse thrust, Kotori looked to Nyton. "Nyton, keep the energized armor offline and transfer 80% of our shield power to charge capacitors. Kindly disable Dominion's psi amplifiers while we back off, but don't destroy her."

That would keep the shield up to protect against teleportations, but allow the capacitors a much faster recharge. Kotori then turned to Miyoko. "Miyoko, use our graviton beams on all the targets in front of us as we back away and cluster them within a 2 kilometer radius, with their belly facing our nose. Also, give Dominion a good shove to keep it out of that zone."

She then used one forearm to brush away the debris from over her command console then activated the tachyon communication array, tapping in S-A-L-M-O-N as the passcode before sending a pulse to each of the hidden Urikos. The twelve bombers shed their CFS stealth. "Uriko drones ready for attack run."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Nyton took note of Tom's update on the ship's power systems while continuing to prepare the ship. Upon hearing Kotori's orders he immediately set to comply. "Roger that Taisa. Power redirected to capacitors." he reported while adjusting the armor and shield settings to do so. He then set the main cannon to beam mode and targeted the Dominion's psionic amplifier array. "Opening fire on the array now." he announced before initiating a series of surgical strikes on the psionic array, slicing off the emitters carefully and trashing the base from which they emerged while trying to avoid causing too much damage to the enemy ship.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Can do," Miyoko responded to the order. The ships were much easier to move now that they weren't resisting, though getting them to stop moving was a bit more of a problem. Ship X accelerates at Y meters per second squared along vector Z. What velocity must Ship A have for the two to collide and not go hurtling off into space? Of course, they didn't need to be perfectly still, but she still did her best to make them into a stationary target.

Miyoko knew she'd probably feel guilty later for assisting in the demise of the ships' relatively helpless personnel. While it was hard of her to think of any of them as simply misguided at this point, Amaya did seem entirely too reasonable for the architect of a planned galactic genocide. She may have stuck with Eve through all of her evils, but knowing all of the dark secrets about the Empire that she did now, she didn't feel entirely clean, herself. War, Miyoko decided sagely, pretty much bites the big one.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

That was definitely a relief. The Taisa was all right and the second (or would it be first) Kotori had played a very good infilitrator. Once the others began their counterattack upon the disabled enemy vessels, Masako switched channels to her Wing Communications. And boy was it lively.

Upon changing channels, Masako had been bombarded by Asher and Tsuya ranting about not having anything to do. A lot of it was just releasing frustration, but then Asher seemed to 'change' attitudes in the middle of the conversation. She couldn't help but allow a giggle to erupt from her lips. These two seemed to be getting along nicely compared to earlier. That was good. The Warrant Officer couldn't have comrades having bad feelings about each other.

Switching to a private channel, Masako contacted Kai. "Nakamura-heisho," she began before pausing for a moment. "How are you holding up?" she asked curiously. After all, this would be Kai's first command in a sense.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Yukari had to be a little touchy with the ship, but she pitched it at the called-for angle and fired several bursts from the thrusters to get it at a good speed, on its way for 50,000 kilometers from the original position.

It felt good to just be flying again.

The ship soon reached the waypoint Yukari had set at 50,000 kilometers; she nailed it with just a meter over, an imprecision she attributed to the distraction of her back. The wound, thankfully, was slowly healing.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"I'm fine. A little on the bored side." the Yamataian answered to his immediate superior. "I was going to stop Westwood-hei and Yamadai-hei, but they seem to have calmed down."

Kai stretched a bit in his armor, yawning. He had no clue what had gone on outside, he just knew that they seemed to no longer be fighting the enemy. "Will we be launching soon?" the Heisho asked.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Miharu was now 50 000 kilometers away from the five Nozomi scouts, the remaining Vampire patrol vessel and Xianthrafruglu gunship - all the vessels had been bunched together, their unprotected ventral side bared to the Himiko-class's forward arc weapons.

Dominion was drifting further beyond, lazily spinning into space. As he got a good view on the ventral side of the pylons Nyton used the main gun to send out a dazzling ray which nastily stitched rents into the hardware required to have Dominion's prized psionic amplifiers function.

Kotori took in a bracing breath - time was growing short. "Yukari, open Hoshi's bay doors and give the green light to the Black Knights."

"Miyoko, compute an optimal spread pattern for the 1 mile radius explosions of the Uriko's W2711 torpedoes over all enemy vessels other than Dominion and assign each of the bombers targets accordingly. Also, now that Dominion has been separated from the lot, please drag her in within 5 kilometers of us."

Kotori eyed one of her displays which showed that diminishing shield strength and keeping the energized armor offline had allowed for the weapon capacitors to fill up in record time. "Nyton, focus on the ship's Miyoko clustered together. I want them all destroyed, but prioritize crippling blows on as many targets as possible first. All weapons, fire at will."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

As her unobstructed view of the starfield, and all the targets in it, started to light up, Yukari activated the bay doors for Hoshi.

"Black Knights, clear for launch. Black Knights, clear for launch. Chiharu protect you, Black Knights."

The armor teams were a go.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Nyton received his orders and accepted them eagerly. Time to reap their plan's harvest of death. "Initiating counterattack, your highness." he said as he began to target the enemy ship vulnerable points. Using the data from Miyoko's sensors to adjust according to how she positioned them together, he added that to his firing pattern. All positron turrets lanced out to strike the CFS systems and engines of the enemy ships to render them defenseless and incapable of moving. As the turrets fired a non-stop barrage he switched the main cannon to pulse mode. Carefully targeting it he then began to fire upon those ships already crippled by the ensuing turret fire in order to finish them off with the devastating power of the aether cannon.

"Heisho keep an eye on the Dominion's shuttle bays. I need to be ready to intercept Amaya if she manages to escape." Nyton said, willing to use a torpedo if necessary to eliminate her.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Miyoko powered up the gravimetric projectors again, then used them to drag the Dominion up alongside the Miharu. A little guesswork and a little help from the MEGAMI later, and she'd made a dispersal plan for the torpedoes that would ensure plenty of pain for each ship. She transmitted it to the bombers and moved on to her next task.

"Heisho keep an eye on the Dominion's shuttle bays. I need to be ready to intercept Amaya if she manages to escape." Nyton said

In response, she trained the Miharu's gravimetric, scalar field, and subspace sensors on the Dominion's bays. If she tried getting out with a CDD, CFS, or gravimetric drive, she'd show up... and if her choices were a Lion or a Kylie, she didn't have many other ways to go about it. She just prayed that the battered sensors could pick it up if the woman tried escaping with stealth.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Kai said:
"Will we be launching soon?"

Ironically enough, Masako received the good news before she could answer the NCO.

Doshii said:
"Black Knights, clear for launch. Black Knights, clear for launch. Chiharu protect you, Black Knights."

"It seems like we just got the green light," she informed Kai before switching channels to inform the shuttle pilots. "We've been cleared to leave. Plot us a course to the gate, best possible speed." she ordered before switching to the Wing Channel.

"All right everybody, we've just been given the green light. The Taisa seems to have put the hurt on their defense fleet, so we should have a clear run for the gate. Let's show these Daughters of Eve their folly in picking a fight with us, shall we?" she informed her subordinates before switching her channel once more to the bridge.

"We're under way now, Shosa. Just make sure we have a place to come back to, ne?" she reported with a determined smile.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Yukari's face appeared in the corner of Masako's HUD, eyes bright behind her translucent blue visor.

"Roger, Juni," she said, expression between deadpan and strictly professional. "We shall keep the lamp on for you."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

The two-pronged zesuaium sword scythed through the air, whistling into empty air as Kotori's latest opponent yanked herself out of the way at the very last second before firing her NSP at the NH-23.

Both were torso hits. Not bad ones, considering the torso part of the uniform was moderately resistant to such attacks, but it made Kotori go "Tch!" as she recoiled - this was the third nekovalkyrja she faced that flung itself in the way to stall her from getting to the shuttlebay - Amaya's apparent destination.

Kotori's enemy, a NH-27, attempted to stay at range but she overtook it, giving another swipe of her sword that lopped the weapon's hand off. However, her foe showed stolid fortitude and even as she let out a screech of pain she dived into close quarters, making fancy inertialess acrobatics to attempt a grapple in Kotori's back; legs used to grapple her at the waist and the remaining hand snatching out a combat knife with the likely goal of stabbing it through the nape of the neck and into Kotori's brain.

They were too close for the saber-rifle to be of any use. Gritting her teeth, Kotori sent her opponent and herself careening in the air in a mad gyroscopic whirl, intentionally using the whipping of her long hair in the other's face as a diversion to hide her right leg folding up with her left hand snatching her own TA-14 diamond-edged knife. Thanks to the skin vision in her now more exposed neck she drove the knife over her shoulder, scoring a vicious hit in the meat of the other neko's remaining hand and stopping it cold mid-swing.

Their gyrating tumble ended abruptly when Kotori had them ram into the nearby bulkhead with her opponents serving as a cushion. Bones snapped, but even in her croak of pain her opponent didn't let up, battle tentacles ripping out from the sides of her garments, tipped with copper bladed points.

They never had the time to strike. With the impact on the wall having suddenly loosed the hold the NH-27 neko had on her Kotori tapped into her anti-gravity control to spin around and cleave through her opponent with her deadlier twin-pronged weapon. She as her shocked opponent was falling in two halves, Kotori's greater proficiency with Sora-Mai was again shown as she reversed the momentum of her swing and made a swift backhand which sheared through the NH-27's head.

A NH-27, even split in two, could survive. A NH-27 beheaded could survive. But a NH-27 with her head chopped through and the brain destroyed would not.

Almost there. She took off again and finally reached the decon compartment that lead into the shuttlebay. Cautiously floating amongst the lockers she noticed the hastily discarded remains of an AMES suit on the bench. A predatory smile formed on her face as she went further and then inched the tip of one hand through the changing room's exit to take a skinvision peek into the Dominion's cramped shuttlebay... and saw a lightly clothed Amaya removing the helmet from the single remaining armor in the 4 holding frames, a modified Kylie M3 power armor.

Kotori flung her weapon up to target Amaya. She had been using the aether saber-rifle as a two-handed sword so far because each weapon's fire control system was locked out to prevent any enemy from turning it against an ally, but she had just recently managed to disable that failsafe. Her finger squeezed the trigger on the weapon and the prongs crackled, releasing a stream of pulses towards their target.

Intense heat wafted from the weapon, instantly scalding Kotori's exposed skin. The NH-23 hissed in pain but her aim did not falter, with the intermittent beam of her weapon savaging through the open cavity of the Kylie power armor and into the backing of the insert - the power armor's dorsal section had no armor to speak off in the insides of it, so in nearly an eyeblink Kotori had destroyed it, ruining the armor.

But the attack's intended target, Amaya, had hurriedly thrown herself away - as if in the last split second Amaya had a premonition and acted on it, saving her life. It didn't save the Nepleslian woman to be singed by the assault and she turned toward Kotori, her teeth grit in a grimace of mixed fear and anger.

"Meni, Mani!" Amaya called, and two Black Mindy power armors ghosted into sight in front of the nepleslian woman, one armed with two saber-rifles and the other armed with a machinegun-style aether weapon. Kotori sucked in a sharp breath and dove for cover back inside the decon room as both armors opened fire.

* * *

"Red 1 and Red 2, taking off," Sanri announced, and as soon as the armored shutters had opened she pushed the Cougar out and made a smart spin toward the gate before putting the STL engines into overdrive, with Mara's Fox in her tail.

Strobes of dazzling light flashed into the cockpit of the shuttles as Miharu opened fire with its directed energy weapon arsenal - the hits it scored spreading over the disabled enemy formation. The hull of enemy ships crackled and blistered under the cobalt-colored bolts of lighting the the turreted particle cannons released, or rent more widely under the radiant onslaught of powerful aetheric pulses.

A dozen of globular white explosions then appeared in the midst of the enemy vessels, the lot of then turning them into dark silhouettes. Two of those silhouettes, that of the SMX gunship and the vampire patrol vessel, withered away into nothingness, while the Nozomi scouts somehow endured, if just barely thanks to their zesuaium armor.

* * *

The Urikos had swooped in, released their payload and then swiftly left the vicinity to escort the shuttles. Miyoko's sensors readings of the remaining targets became distorted, making it difficult to confirm anything but the Watcher and Phramplemulrp having been put out of their misery.

Kotori also did not wait. "Nyton, stop using the main gun," after five pulses she did not want to have it overheat even if energy for it was presently plentiful. "Small craft are clear - you have permission to use transphasic torpedoes."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Nyton gave a subdued smile while the unleashed firepower wreaked havoc upon the enemy ships. It was enjoyable to see his enemies perish and it satisfied a primal desire of his, cultivated after years of bloodshed on Nepleslia. It was an edge he knew well having constantly visited it and his cool reasoning maintained him.

The main cannon only had six shots before depleting the capacitors so when he was told to cease firing with them he was only one shy of his limit. The Urikos had fired off their payload and while the blast was still in effect he had been given clearance to use their torpedoes. While Miyoko's sensors were being distorted Nyton did his best without the Fast Time interface to target the area where the enemy ships had been clustered. With a quick command both torpedoes were locked and fired off. Nyton quickly reloaded with two more transphasic torpedoes.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Nnnngh!"

The illusion that the durandium bulkhead behind which Kotori had hidden was dispelled when it took a cherry-red glow from the heat of multiple aetheric attacks until finally one beam sheared through, passing by Kotori's right leg. The near miss had been enough to have the flesh on her right thigh warp from a burn.

She couldn't just stay there... and yet, she couldn't spontaneously figure out a trick or battle tactic that would handily defeat two Black Mindy armor save fighting them while not getting hit a single time - one direct aether hit, even weakened by the locale, would disintegrate her.

Not having any choice, she burst out of her cover flying at breakneck speed. As near blinding attack swept the air right behind her, she spied Amaya running for the Lion shuttle while the other duo covered up for her - but that was right across the shuttlebay.

Kotori would either need to cross the distance to the shuttle quickly, while being much easier to hit... or she could slow down to better aim with her unyieldly aether saber-rifle.

Fortunately, she got a lucky break: the Dominion's shuttlebay was similar to a KFY rapid launch bay with atmospheric-retaining forcefields, so when Nyton's transphasic aether torpedoes exploded, the explosions whitewashed everything in their radiance. Temporarily deprived of visual light and infrared sensors, both of Kotori's power armored enemies lost sight of her.

She seized that chance, and arrowed through the air where she remembered Amaya had been. Skinvision recovered before eyesight but she couldn't see Amaya anymore. taking the open shuttle hatch as a clue of the nepleslian woman's location, Kotori decided to stop Amaya's flight cold by depriving her of her means of transport.

Gritting her teeth, Kotori squeezed her weapon's trigger: flaring aether flared to life in a sword-like shape between the double-prongs and she brought its quintessent power to bear on the side of the shuttle, betting on both Mindy armors not attacking her for fear of hurting Amaya on a hit or a miss. In seconds, the attack ate through the hull before finally breaching through, ruining the shuttle by no longer making it spaceworthy.

With a cry, Amaya backpedaled out with her arms up protectively to shield her eyes from the heat. Whatever hesitation Kotori's opponents might've held about friendly fire evaporated with seeing Amaya away from the shuttle, and the shuttle ruined at that, and they opened fire. Kotori, smarting from pain, saw her only recourse to be an aerial somersault over the remains of the shuttle to use it as cover.

There was a hiss, but it did not come from her pained snarl: it came from her flesh, which was still sizzling from the fewseconds she had lighted her aetheric sword. Her clothing was smoldering in a couple of places, her flesh was scorched - her skinstealth and skinvision ruined, and her hands were now reduced to being blackened bird-like claws clutching the handle of the saber-rifle.

Unlike power armors, she wasn't heat resistant; and while she had nearly effortlessly regenerated the wounds she had received back when she had been impaled, her growing collection of burns was something she could not easily recover from, like most nekovalkyrja. Between her own weapon and the near misses of her enemies, she was slowly being cooked to death.

* * *

"ETA to Gate, 20 seconds," Sanri announced to Black Knight squadron. "Kurohoshi-Juni, which shuttle hangar should we use as our entry point?"

The way the ring-like gateway was currently sitting over the Blue Rift, there was one hangar at the bottom, and two above: one left and the other over to the right.

* * *

Nyton's torpedoes detonated in the midst of the remaining enemy vessels, the radius of the explosions nearly touching the Dominion so that it was sent drifting away.

Once the explosion abated, there were only two enemy silhouettes visible, and those were clearly derelict: surviving remains of the scoutships zesuaium-armored hull with much of the interior having been consumed by the transphasic aether explosions.

On sensors, all give Nozomi vessels had their named grayed out, with the final two flagged as navigational hazards to Yukari's console. Aside from the inert Dominion, Miyoko did not detect any other hostile ship in the vicinity.

As for the sensors Miyoko had focused over to Dominion, once the interference transphasic explosions had cleared up, she noticed that there was a lot of spontaneous-but-repetitive aetheric activity in the Dominion's lower decks.

"Report," the yukata-robed Taisa ordered.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Gazing at the Gateway, Masako made her decision quickly. "We're going through the top left hanger, Sanri-hei. But I suggest clearing the hanger with your Particle Cannons before landing. We need to make sure the area is clear before we land." the Armor Leader replied before switching to the Wing's channel.

"15 seconds to touch down, be ready for any counter attacks." Masako ordered as she readied her LASR and moved to sit closer to the hatch. After all, there was only one reason why she would get on the shuttle last and that was to be the first one off.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Asher, You wanna go first?" Kai suddenly asked the cloned hei, as they approached their job, finally. "You're probably most likely to survive in this scenario, anyway" the Heisho conceded, standing second in line so that he could get out quickly himself when the time came.

"You ready, Gunshin-Hei?" he asked the other in his Shuttle, as well. The tall Yamataian checked the Plasma rifle he was currently holding, making sure it was ready for when they exited and began fighting. He was glad to have a second, as well as the Gauss cannon.
