Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Miyoko stepped back onto the bridge, carrying her plate in both hands. It would have to leave the bridge shortly, since having an unsecured object that big around when the ship was going to probably take more hits and be jostled in every direction wasn't the best idea. She'd planned to share the onigiri among the bridge staff, but she found that everybody but Kotori had left.

The sensor specialist dipped a careful bow to the two officers as she stepped onto the bridge, careful to keep her plate level as she did so. Not wanting to interrupt, she stood to the side and finished off her first victim.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Nyton's patience was wearing thinner but he maintained himself for just a bit longer. "Heisho if there is no immediate danger then just make an appointment for immediately after the battle. Otherwise we have a battle to win." he said before reaching for his shirt.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Tom said:
For Rin, who was waiting patiently by her CFS unit, there was the problem of ruptured pipes which spewed out hot steam whose presence was starting to make itself known as it coursed along the floor. The sprite was safe in her suit for now, but a quick scan would reveal potential for the pipe to rupture in two completely, sending torrents of compressed, heated air directly on top of the poor sprite unless she do something.

That, probably, wouldn't be too good for her health, nor the health of her CFS unit.
Rin gulped. Not good. Her mind immediately went abuzz with possibilities, though there really weren't very many, at least on how to fix it. First, she had to cut off the flow to the broken pipes. Then, she would have to somehow patch it up with a good enough seal that it wouldn't break again, hopefully, at least during the battle, but while also doing it fast enough so that not too much pressure would build up and cause even more problems. Or, cutting off the flow too long could also lead to problems with whatever these pipes were feeding. Fantastic.

With the plan in her head, the lavender-haired sprite looked for a way to shut it off: a switch, a valve, anything. If all else failed, she could at least contact Miharu about it.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Kyou brought her forearms together as quickly as possible when she saw the NH-18 coming towards her, and decided to follow the suggestion given to her to the letter. That said, she fired up both of her forearm projectors, aimed as much as she could get them towards the creature. "I could use some help with this if you get the chance guys."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

As Nyton voiced his concern for time, Sanjuro gave a short, slightly aggravated sigh as he reached for a set of surgical tools. He knew what was going on outside of the ship... and making the call to keep the Nepleslian there to operate could mean a failure of the mission as a whole. Still, Sanjuro was hesitant to immediately release him; the threat of the alloy entering his bloodstream was real enough to cause concern, but perhaps the doctor was simply using his condition as a distraction. Despite all of his fears of fighting and death, Sanjuro did not take joy in the fact that he needed such circumstances to simply function.

"... if the fragments in your body remain there too long, it's possible that they will move further into your body and cause more serious wounds," Sanjuro explained with his back turned to the Taii. "I do realize the urgency we are facing. The operation will not be a quick one, although if treated now I can assure a complete recovery. An hour later... I am not so sure."

"It is your decision to make, Claymere-Taii."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Crunch time boy. What do you do now?

Nyton had heard that phrase many times whenever he was put on the spot of a difficult decision. Having been experienced with invasive surgery before he knew that recovery time for such things would not be brief. He would likely be incapacitated for the rest of the battle. On the other hand if he didn't he risked the pieces of metal invading his blood stream. He was no trained physician but he knew how dangerous it was for foreign bodies to enter the blood stream. And if one of those pieces reached his heart then he could die. Extremely painful death even.

Or he could go into surgery now and risk being removed from the mission and possibly any contribution he would make to the mission. The ramifications of which would be far reaching so it seemed obvious what the logical choice would be. But here was the moment, the defining moment. It was significantly different from risking his life in combat. There seemed to be a feeling of 'finality' to it that made him pause. What should he do? What would his grandfather do?

Oh yeah I remember this one mission I had. I was sent to rescue one of our operatives who was tracking a Geshrintali scientist that had defected to the Reds. The UEA had specified this mission was important so they sent in their best guy. Old Sam was good but he got caught and I was picked to find him. After I found him though I learned that this scientist had been the one who was developin' all these new weapons for the Reds. It was some crazy new nanomachinery that was real cutting edge stuff for it's day. Anyways I actually managed to find the scientist but when I tried to capture him he infected me with the nanomachines. I knew that if treated quickly I'd be alright but my chances would go down if I chased after him. So I thought of something my dad would ask me when I was growing up: 'Crunch time boy. What do you do?' Well those words rang true that day and I knew what I had to do. I chased after that son of a bitch. In the end I was okay but it was close. It ain't easy being the one to make that decision at that moment but someday boy, I know you'll make the right choice. You'll make me proud son.

Nyton sighed and finished buttoning his jacket. No mission will ever compare to the one of living up to your expectations grandfather. he thought as he nodded to the doctor. "Very well then. I will see you after the mission, Heisho. Try to stay alive until then."

With that Nyton walked out of the medical center. He set a timer on his internal memory system to begin counting down of one hour according to the doctor's predicted concern. With that set he put the matter in the back of his mind and focused on what had to be done. First he decided to return to his room and retrieve for himself a new uniform. No sense in running around one that was torn up. It didn't feel right. He wasn't hungry anyways so he balanced the time for food with changing. After he was done he uncased his GP-12 and slung it around his chest. With the grenade launcher loaded he figured it would be useful in case there were anymore unwelcome guests.

Business done in his room, Nyton was as prompt as he could be, he then decided that there were other matters he could attend before returning to the bridge. First he stopped by Kotori's room which he expected to be locked so he stopped and addressed the ship.

"Miharu, I am here to retrieve a uniform and undergarments to deliver to the Taisa upon my return to the bridge. Could you please open the door and allow me access?" Nyton requested.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

@Miharu's Bridge:

Kotori gave Tom a confident nod. "I apologize for the scare." She then spied Miyoko as she came in and added: "Heisho, I appreciate your need for a snack, but you should get your wounds looked at and your hands cleaned."

* * *

@Nyton:

"Nope," Miharu glibly replied. "Besides, I'm confident the Taisa is wearing what she wants already."

* * *

@Rin:

Miharu sent Rin a minimap of the compartment she was in, with a label on the valve she was looking for. It was just outside the door of the wing pod she was in, above the base of the capacitor. She'd have to float up to reach it.

@Kurohoshi Team:

Crackling flames with the a tang of electricity spread across the evacuating nekovalkyrja technicians, just as Tsuya's own grenades landed within the nekomachina formation.

Wails rose above the roars of flames as the technicians failed around, stunned and flailing around from having caught of fire. The nekomachinas reeled from under the twin explosions and found their bodyarmors ruined, with their metallic skin and muscles charred on the surface. The far edges of the room, where zesuaium bulkheads protected the module where the power supply was, flared into a lightshow as a protective barrier screen protected it from the explosions.

Suddenly, all the flames were extinguished. Suzuran, Eve's youngling, stood panting hard, with arms spread on her sides and fists closed. Singed and her clothes smoldering, she snarled at the invaders briefly - just as Nimura destroyed one of the nekomachina with a headshot - and she turned to help up one of her badly burnt subordinates. "Out! Out and get the blastdoor down!"

The eleven remaining nekomachinas pounced about the chamber to find machinery for cover and starting raining suppressive fire at the three Daisy armors in the doorway with staccato bursts of their LASRs.

Meanwhile, through the haze of smoke Masako's drones saw that one of the burnt nekos had gone past the exit and slapped on a console on the other side. A blast shutter swiftly came down and was halfway closed when Suzuran and her wounded companion got through.

Masako had the time to make two observations:

First, the power reactor seemed armored with very thick zesuaium armor. With the energy barrier on top of that, it would probably take a lot of firepower to get through. Her AIES' analysis had the reactor and shield registered as ship-grade.

Second, if the blastdoor came down, it would also take a lot of firepower to get through it and regain access to the utility corridor leading to this segment's main control room. That meant either wasting a lot of ammunition on taking it down, or being forced back into the main corridor to find another accessway deeper into this segment's vital locations.

With a burst of gravimetric speed while covered by her teammates , it might be possible to get through the doorway before it closed, but only a snap decision from Masako would make this possible - the second or two of lag time in giving the order to the others would be too long.

@Nakamura Team:

Discharging both her forearm weapons at the heavy setting sent bruising concussive shockwaves through Kyou's armor, but luckily her armor's barrier system protected her from the brunt of it. Her barrier had been depleted by half, but thanks to that, the NH-18 that had been trying to cut her into pieces with eight chainsaw-like appendage was explosively pried off her.

The gray mass spread out into a more amorphous blob that smacked wetly on the floor, spreading widely into the main corridor. Slowly it started gathering itself together.

Kai failed and struggled to get a bead on the NH-18 after him, but with his head being twisted off and his opponent wrestling him around both his forearm heavy pulse and plasma rifle missed wide.

Things were looking bad for Kai, but fortunately Asher was in the right position to help him. With Kyou's explosive recovery and the sluggishness of his own opponent, Asher unleashed enough plasma flame to incinerate his own target while he concentrated fire on Kai's assailant, firing two pulses at the base of the nanomachine construct.

Kai's lost 25 percent off his barrier, but the NH-18 splashed around him.

Now, the two NH-18s were busy recovering, reassembling themselves. One was with Kyou in the main corridor, and another was with Kai and Asher inside the power reactor chamber.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Continue firing, the small Warrant Officer ordered telepathically as she used her inertial flight to dash forward towards the closing blast doors. Cycling her grenade launcher's ammunition as she did, Masako flew low to get through the closing doors and launched an incendiary round at the first humanoid shape she saw.

In hindsight, it probably wasn't wise to separate herself from her team, but she couldn't allow them to be delayed by blast doors. If she could get to the control room, they could control this entire section. That was an advantage worth the risk.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Less' burn these bitches." Asher growled as he let loose another five seconds of Flamethrower fire on the the NH-18 in the room with Kai and himself.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Stymied by Miharu, once again, Nyton shook his head. "Then the Taisa must be thinking ahead." he muttered.

"Fine then. No sense in tarrying any longer." Nyton said, turning away and heading back to the bridge. While he walked he thought he could feel the chunks of metal shifting in him but resigned it to his imagination.

Upon returning to the bridge Nyton took note of all those present. "Freeman-Juni, as usual you have your work cut out for you." he stated with a hint of mirth as he looked at the engineer preparing to work.

"Your highness, I am fit to continue performing my duties." he then said to Kotori before walking over and returning to his station. As he sat down he then looked over at Miyoko.

"Saito-Heisho, I must say that I have appreciated your assistance in the battle and commend your efforts. Your execution of the last enemy ship was also quite noteworthy." Nyton then mentioned to her before resuming his use of the station.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Kotori flattened her ears back. "Taii, didn't I tell you to get your wounds attended to, or at the very least cleaned up?"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Tsuya made a small sound of unhappiness as she watched Masako dive underneath the lowering blast door. Now she and Nimura were on their own, against a slavering horde of enemies - what chance could they stand?

Still, though, she kept her rifle up, giving each of the fried nekomachina a couple of shots, figuring that would be enough to down the heavily-wounded things.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Nyton turned to face Kotori. "You did Taisa and I got cleaned up. The hemosynth fluid I was given earlier did it's job." he replied touching on his side. That was when he realized that there was something else still sticking in his back. Several other things. That was when Nyton realized that he was still running his Pain Control memory loops so hard that he had stifled all of his minor injuries to nothing. As soon as he turned them down the slight stinging sensation began to make it's presence known to him.

Standing up Nyton then began to depart the bridge, silently cursing his absent mindedness in the matter. Plus his fresh uniform was probably dirty again as a result. "I will go take care of these right away." he said before leaving for the medical center yet again. He really did not want to get into any discussion with Sanjuro about his condition again so he went to the other medical center. Since his injuries were minor one of the sprites there should be able to help clean them.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

@Kurohoshi Team:

Tsuya kept exchanging shots with the nekomachina. Unfortunately, they had cover and she didn't: she only managed to destroy one with a chest hit and disable another by destroying its shoulder before she had taken enough hits for her barrier to collapse.

Nimura, for her part, had returned to chamber's doorway and used it as partial cover. The sprite took two other nekomachinas out with headshots (one was nice... but three in a row was getting pretty darn impressive) and was about to take another out when an ill timed hit on her Daisy's barrier spoiled her shot, which turned out missing high.

"Yamada, hide behind cover and give your barrier some time to recover," Nimura sent telepathically to her grey-skinned teammate.

* * *

Masako had to break sharply to avoid getting caught in the deflagration of her grenade - her barrier would likely protect her, but no sense in taking damage if she could avoid it.

Screams greeted her attack, but the flames were again soon snuffed out. Three lifeless smoking corpses were on the ground, with five other singed nekos flying off through the smoke-filled corridor.

Standing in front of Masako, not four meters away, was Suzuran, with her Type 28 submachinegun at the ready. "Fuck you, imperial bitches!" She yelled as she opened fire at the Juni's Daisy.

The AIES alerted Masako: her NH-17T enemy was trying to psionically force her way in. The suit's psionic defense could still hold for 32 seconds.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

The Type 28 SMG wouldn't do much to her Daisy and Masako didn't feel like waiting for the enemy to breach her psionic defenses. This had to end quickly so she could move on to the control room. Instead of evading, Masako charged straight through the hail of fire with her suit's engines instead of her inertial drive. Wordlessly, the Warrant Officer pulled her fist back and threw it forward to smash the NH-17T's head in with both her suit's power and speed. And just for added measure, the young Neko also engaged her Pulse Energy Weapon and let loose a torrent of fire with her punch.

Miyoko looked down at herself... after being blasted by one of the warheads and then working in the debris-filled bridge afterward, she'd certainly seen better days. Now that she had some idea of how badly she was beaten up, she was vaguely aware that a rush of endorphins was probably to blame for her upbeat mood recently... which meant that she was probably going to feel so bad that she'd wish she were dead once they faded.

She gave a soft laugh at Kotori's comment. "Suzuka-shosa's idea," she commented weakly and finished off her second rice ball, grubby hands be damned.

Blas said:

"Thank you. I'm a bit ashamed that I couldn't do more about... the Mindy..." Miyoko trailed off, realizing she was approaching some sensitive spots, but she did appreciate the compliment... if he found her performance praiseworthy, it probably meant that she'd done legitimately right, a nice change of pace for her in combat situations.

"I'll... go get checked out." Rather than leave the plate on the bridge, she chose to take it with her to the medlab... if nothing else, she could dispose of them there. Such was her condition as she followed Nyton off the bridge and to the Hoshi's medlab for treatment.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Tsuya made a frustrated noise as her shots mostly fizzled into the nekomachinas' cover. She took NImura's advice and retreated to a nearby bank of consoles, though, crouching behind them while she waited for her barrier to regenerate.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

As Asher's efforts made the NH-18 let go, Kai dropped back down to the ground, straightening his helmet so he could see clearly. It had almost gotten to the point where he was afraid, and he wondered what the hell was wrong with his suit's AIES that it could not draw a point blank bead on something with the forearm weapons.

For now, the Yamataian simply poured as much Plasma from his forearm weapons and plasma rifle as he could manage into the NH-18 on the ground. "As soon as this thing's dead, go help Gunshin-hei, Westwood-hei." Kai ordered, hoping there weren't more NH-18 pretending to be walls or something.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

@Kurohoshi Team:

While Tsuya's barrier recovered, Nimura again turned out of cover to shoot at the robotic nekos. She destroyed another, but seeing as she was the only target she took enough hits to nearly collapse her barrier.

The sprite quickly pivoted back behind the doorframe, her Daisy's paintjob now dented in several places. "Seven enemy nekomachinas remaining," she informed Tsuya.

* * *

Suzuran's attacks were like mere rain against the barrier of Masako's Daisy as the Juni charged in. Suzuran had her wits about her and ducked under Masako's forearm pulse attack and the punch.

Masako's fighting experience paid off, however. using inertial control to stop her momentum, she crashed her zesuaium shield over the crouched NH-17T like a club, flattening her to the floor before she stomped hard on her head with an armored foot. Crack.

The armor wing leader was deprived the chance to savor her victory or to contemplate her next move. Just as soon as she straightened up, she heard - felt! - a distinct SCHLICK noise.

In an instant, she realized the wrongness of it: it was a disturbing, phantom impression in the back of her head. Aside from that impression, her perceptions, her thoughts, became numb ebbing pulsing.

Plaintive confusion was all she could muster when she realized she was lying against the floor. Amidst the haze of red that had filled her vision, she thought she saw a glassy armored boot turn on her heel and then rise away.

Then she couldn't see. She couldn't think. She was dead.

* * *

Hinoto inhaled sharply as she saw the damage diagram of Masako's Daisy have its head turn black. She hadn't seen the enemy anymore than Masako had.

Briefly biting on her lower lip in an effort to regain her composure, she then opened communication with Tsuya and Nimura. "Yamada, Nimura... make a withdrawal and return to the hangar."

Opening up another channel, this time to the Nakamura team, Hinoto said: "Heisho, Kurohoshi is KIA. I'm putting you in charge of Yamada and Nimura."

Her voice threatened to break up. Hinoto bent her head, shoulders shaking. "Claymere-Taii," she sent telepathically to Nyton. "Kurohoshi-Juni was killed in action. I request permission initiate remote self-destruction on her M6 as well as order her revival."
