Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

@Miharu:

Transferring front shield power to the rear brute forced recovery of their rear shield quadrant at the expense of the front... but it was enough to accomplish Yukari's purpose of both protecting Miharu and breaking off the Koyryu's graviton beam.

All Yukari's deft maneuver required was a blast of the ventral maneuvering thrusters to have her vessel climb by a hundred meters while feathering the ship's forward thrust to be slightly less than Koyryu's until Miharu was right on top of it. The shield bubbles of both ships crackled azure from their proximity.

The attacks all happened within an eyeblink. Miyoko's graviton beams proved absolutely ineffective against the Koyryu's shields. Extra focus on magnetic resonance also paid little dividend seeing the bridge's physical position on the enemy gunship was already painfully obvious. While Koyryu's weapon pods splashed ineffectual attacks on Miharu's ventral shield, Nyton made his riposte with the ventral turrets.

He missed. With no good way to get a better lead on the ship's very erratic maneuvers both particle shots turned into near misses. Koyryu seemed to flinch and gave up on its attacks, instead cautiously shied in the shadow of Miharu's port gravimetric wing, using it as cover against most of the turrets.

Yukari could picture the other pilot being on the defensive. The Koyryu's main gun was fully charged but she needed a good opening to take advantage of it - going after Miharu's weakened front shields would be too much of a long shot given the speeds they were already going at... so, Koyryu bided its time.

Oiwa and Tamamo sped after Miharu at 0.75c, slowly catching up, with their own weapons also fully charged. Once they were 200 000 kilometers away they split up, Oiwa climbing and Tamamo descending, to put 50 000 kilometers between themselves.

From what Miyoko could tell, communication jamming was still in effect, cutting them off from the Black Knights onboard Amaya's Gate. However, instead of the jamming coming from all three ships, now it only seemed to be Koyryu that maintained that effect. Chances were Oiwa and Tamamo had given up on that in order to maintain their sensor feed.

@Amaya's Gate:

Kai scooted around to find partial cover behind another console that he felt was much less suspicious. Kyou's missiles exploded back in their corridor but unfortunately gave no hint as to the whereabouts of their Black Mindy opponent. All of the Black Knights, save Nimura whom was revealed by the smoking remains of her fusion thruster pack, were still and hidden.

The Black Mindy seemed in no hurry to show itself again. It was not attacking Nimura, and seemed quite willing to be patient (as the defender, Mani probably had that luxury anyways). The Mishhumachina was a whole other matter, as it raised its tentacles and fired as the prone armored sprite.

Nimura's Daisy half-rolled, half-flew up to avoid the flurry of attacks while she jettisoned the remains of her thruster pack. Her armor became glassy transparent and she stealthed once again before she made for a gravimetric-assisted leap over the consoles. "Engaging Mishhumachina!"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Asher sat in cover quietly, observing the faint trails of aether go by from his position. He seemed rather comfortable, awaiting for his orders. The fact that the Mindy could leap out with it's magically-resistant teleporter at any second, didn't seem to put him on edge. Neither did the idea of the Mishhumachina advancing from the other direction. He tilted his head one way, and then other, his neck audibly cracking, but the source of it not very visible to outside eyes.

"So uh, we gunna' bait out this Black Mindy, or we gunna' sit 'ere n'let Green'n'trigga'happy ova' there shoot to it's heart's content?" Asher chimed shifting the weight of his rifle in his hands, then looked back up at the random blaster fire. "Seems like it don't have much idea where we're at."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

You are sharp, Koyryu, but we are blessed.

Yukari saw Oiwa and Tamamo headed toward them double-time. Their split suggested they might not care if they destroyed Koyryu in the process of obliterating their mutual enemy.

No time to avoid the other two, but there was time to frustrate them. "Heisho, long-range comm jamming!"

"Taii, prepare main gun! Fire on signal!"

The Sakuras had not tried to overcome Miharu's reversing of their interdiction. Though she'd manipulated a ship's direction with CDD microjumps, this was going to be something different.

Taking a small breath, Yukari closed her eyes and saw through the ship. Tried to feel the ship, will the ship to do what she needed.

Instead of using maneuvering thrusters that would make her prey skittish, she flashjumped to point the ship's nose directly at Koyryu, having also rolled 90 degrees to present Oiwa and Tamamo with the thinnest profile she could. The gravimetric engines were off; the shields were shoved to the bow.

"FIRE!"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Tom considered Hinoto's advice and Yukari's orders. Both the gravimetric drive and the PSC were essential for different reasons. Both were working, but the drive was running hot, implying a chance of major problems down the road.

But Yukari had given him a direct order, and the reasoning behind that had to be clear: lose the PSC, lose the ship to some brunt psionic attack that would overwhelm the crew.

So he decided to delegate, pointing his finger to Nao who was awaiting her next order.

"Nao, please see to the port gravimetric engine and see what can be done to keep it operating at maximum efficiency. Don't tell anyone of what you saw here. We don't need a demoralized crew right now!"

The tension of combat was once again all-consuming, with the engineer secretly bracing himself for the next impact even while he ran to check on the PSC.

Miharu's little ants were running about, trying to keep their hive together.

-----

@Rin
Rin squeaked at the drop hit her nose. She dabbed her finger into it to see... red, her eyes going wide at the sight. "Ah! E- Eiko, stop squirming! It'll only make it worse!" The helper was getting quite urgent now too, what with the bleeding and all.

"Etto, can you pull yourself further up? If you can, I can try to slide the siding back into place so you can get past... I think." That would be the ideal solution, as far as Rin could see. Then again, there wasn't much of a solution she could think of at all beyond that.

"I can't MOVE anywhere, sister!" Eiko replied with frustration while trying to hold still. "It's hard enough holding myself up so I don't get impaled on this blasted sharp...thing! Can't you cut it out or lube it up or something?!"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Taii, prepare main gun! Fire on signal!"

Hearing this Nyton moved fast to try and set up the turrets to target the Tamamo and Oiwa to prevent them from approaching unimpeded. With that set though he noticed Miyoko was attempting to jam the uplink between the two ships. Then the world shifted.

Instinct took over as the ship jumped and presented Nyton with a new perspective. Seeing the enemy ship directly in front of him the Nepleslian tightened a shot group right for the enemy's bridge and immediately opened fire.

As a five round burst of energy from the main canon's pulse mode was released, Nyton quickly spared his right hand to quickly tap out commands for the fresh AM torpedo he had loaded. Using muscle memory in lieu of not having a screen to work with he tightened up the payload to detonate in the direction of the enemy like before and set it to fire off as soon as the jamming from Miyoko's console was sent. If the Oiwa's connection could be disrupted then their sensors would be out and WARMS may not be able to detect a torpedo enroute to them. Even if the Tamamo intervened it would at least stymie their attacks so they could finish killing off the Koyryu grab some ground to steal the initiative.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Yes sir." The sprite spoke. Nao's simple answer pretty much covered everything Tom had ordered. She quickly left, and gave Nyton's body a berth as she did so; she wouldn't be saying a word about it to anyone either at Tom's command. She probably wouldn't have anyways. Despite the space she gave his broken vessel, Nao couldn't help but notice the damage on the body. Was it an NSP? It probably was. Even though the idea of Nyton's handsome, toned body being blasted apart was demoralizing, and seeing it in reality was even more so. In order to make up for this, Nao tucked that bit of unpleasantness away by suddenly taking pride in the NSP by her side. 'It's a hand-cannon.' She thought, pointing out the obvious to herself. Nao smiled as she walked down the corridors and towards the port gravimetric engine.

The Sprite briskly entered the room and steeled herself; Nao was now at work. Her hands and eyes quickly fell onto the nearby console and got to work at investigating the less than optimal conditions.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"R- right! Sorry...." As Rin continued to think about the situation, it looked more and more like she had to take a more brute force approach to solve this. She slid back out then rummaged through her toolkit. Out of said toolkit, the lavender-haired sprite pulled out... a knife. Basically a box cutter, but with a mono-molecular edge.

Knife in hand, Rin slid back into the shaft, positioned so that she was sitting and could bring her arm up to cut the piece of siding off. Of course this had a rather awkward side effect. Her head was rather shoved into Eiko's rear, eliciting a blush from Rin. "Sorry. Um, if you want you can put some of your weight onto my shoulders," she apologized, as she carefully tried to saw away at the piece of siding.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

With Nyton's shots not providing the hoped-for damage to the Koyryu's shields, the graviton beams were worthless. Miyoko turned them off, biding her time until they could get a grip on it. For the Oiwa and Tamamo, she activated the ship's battered communications array, trying to disrupt communication between the two as thoroughly as she could. At the same time, she set the MEGAMI to work checking the enemy's jamming for any patterns she could use to filter out the interference and put them back in contact with the armor wing.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

@Miharu:

Nyton's five argent bolts struck true. Each of the aether pulses had Koyryu's shields to contend with, but even then they visited tremendous harm to the enemy gunship.

Koyryu's navigator's twitch-based reflex maneuver to try and dodge the attack saved the bridge from direct attack, though the hull breach created over the starboard escape pods would likely be troublesome.

The second and third hit landed on Koyryu's flank: the second creating a rent in the armor and the third plowing in to deal damage to the computer room and main gun power systems.

Finally, the last two struck at the gunship's starboard nacelle, causing it to burst in flakes of armor and warped inner working that even went so far as to bounce of Miharu's shields. The end of Koyryu's starboard pylon was now a splintered stump of ragged superstructural supports and severed power cabling that sparked impotently.

As Koyryu's was sent spinning out of control past Miharu, Nyton's anti-matter torpedo streaked out and within an eyeblink doubled-back to hammer itself at Oiwa's shields. Miyoko's attempt at jamming had been successful, but Oiwa still had her shields up to ensure her survival. It still sustained grievous harm, though: it's shields failed and a large part of its armor on the hull's port side and the matching pylon withered away to reveal white-hot internal supports and wide hull breaches; the Oiwa's main gun became a withered ruin of its former self.

Tamamo hurtled itself forward toward Miharu with a vengeance, discharging its main gun in an attempt to engulf Miharu in a cone of aetheric destruction.

Koyryu painstakingly regained control of its trajectory, though the gunship seemed in poor position to initiate a riposte... instead, it boosted power to its shields and reinforced its wounded side.

As for Oiwa, the damage from the torpedo proved more troublesome past the initial hit: one of the lower deck explosively decompressed, rattling the light gunship. All it could manage was to blindly reverse thrust with its maneuvering thrusters.

Finally, Miyoko detected an additional ship contact on long range sensors. It's size, displacement mass, speed of 18 750c and IFF signature identified it as the S.S. Takumi, a Takumi-class command cruiser. The vessel was on an intercept course and its estimated time of arrival was 312 seconds.

@Nao:

Nao's inspection of the monitoring console's logs showed that the fin-shaped part of the gravimetric array had been struck with a positron discharge. There was only surface damage to the armor and that didn't impair the propulsion system. On the other hand, the very active use of the unit, along with the activation of the energized barrier system and the lingering heat impact of the positron bolt had left the struck area left the unit running hot.

Normally, Miharu's coolant lines in the region would've shunted out the waste heat, but the weapon discharge and operation of energized armor was above specifications.

Fortunately, it wasn't a problem yet - the unit was still running within safety levels, but that would last only for a minute or two more depending on how the ship fared. Then, they'd be forced to either shut the unit down to let it cool, or flush it their ever-smaller supply of coolant.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"I don't think we have much choice at this point." Kyou paused, and peered back into the hallway then towards the misshumachina. "We can't fight both at the same, and the Mindy hasn't done anything devastating since we headed this way, so I think we take out the machina and then try and catch the fucker in the Mindy."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Nimura! Wait for backup! You can't take it alone!" Kai yelled at the sprite over the comms, knowing it probably wouldn't work; He didn't want to see the sprite dead, but he knew that jumping up to help her would only expose him to the Black Mindy; His only hope now was that she would draw out the Powered armor and allow the armor team to attack her.

"We need to put a leash on her or something!" Kai growled to himself, unhappy with the current situation, stuck between an invisible rock and a trigger-happy hard place.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

@Rin

"Eeep!" Eiko squealed lightly in embarrassment as Rin's head jammed between her legs. "N-no problem, sister!"

Awkwardly, the sprite pulled her legs up just barely high enough to position her shins on Rin's shoulders. Even with the increase in weight, the change in position provided more space for the sprite to get to work.

Rin's efforts to cut the Yamataium panel went... slowly. Luckily, there wasn't any Yarvex covering to contend with in the crawlspace, but Rin had to saw and push with extreme force, so much so that her breath became ragged and her hands sore, her knuckles whitening and tight from the strain.

For her part, Eiko stayed as still as she could, not wanting to distract her rescuer.

Then, finally, Rin sawed completely through the panel and it fell, skidding right in front of Rin's nose to land at her feet with a loud rattling noise.

@Miharu's Subdeck

Tom took command at the main console next to Yuzuki and went about surveying the status of the nebulous PSC. There wasn't necessarily one 'thing' to fix when it came to this system, but rather an entire intricate network of wires, systems and points which acted in unity to protect the entire ship.

The engineer imagined a gigantic wire fishing net which covered the ship. His job was to make sure there weren't any holes in that net.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Masako gritted her teeth as that little plan backfired. She honestly had no intention of being bogged down in this area for long and taking on the Mishhumachina would only leave them open to attacks from the Mindy. "Negative Nimura, we're doubling back. Let this thing fire as much as it wants, but we have no time for this. We've lost contact with Miharu and that could spell disaster." she replied as she began to move via inertial flight.

"Black Knights, fall back through the other corridor. We're going to find another way around." she ordered as she reached found a bit of cover near the non-tentacle blocked entrance.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

With dignity, Nao slowly stood back from the console and looked up to the Gravimetric Engine before her. 'There's hardly anything I can do at all.' Yes, they could use coolant, but that stuff was running short. She couldn't go and make more permanent repairs considering they were being shot at. And turning this one's performance down or perhaps redistributing the load onto the others was a big no; that would get them killed for certain. The sprite cast her eyes down onto the floor. 'Perhaps this will be the first of a series of failures?' Yes. Failure. She felt like she failed. Helpless, like a youngling, she couldn't really do a thing. Nao sent a message to Tom; it wasn't her place to use up their precious coolant or risk the ship.

Code:
Freeman-Juni? The port side Gravimetric Engine has about two to three minutes left before it overheats and exceeds safe operational perimeters. I can either redistribute it's work onto the other engines but increase strain in them, use up some of our dwindling coolant, or decrease output slightly to allow the system to cool down. With any of these options, we are at a disadvantage.

- Nao

With that sent, she glanced around the room. There. A panel was loose and hanging ajar, a few wires burned out and in need of replacement. Nao smiled. At least there was something she could do.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Rin let out a relieved, and exhausted, sigh, though she did wince at the loud sound. She made a mental note to herself to replace the siding later as she kicked and shoved with her feet the siding to get it out of the crawlspace.

"Nee, Eiko-chan. I'm done.... So, er, we... need to get out of here... and to the medical bay," Rin said between her tired breaths. Luckily, she was a neko, otherwise she'd probably be all hot and sweaty from the work. Well, she was still rather warm, but at least she wasn't smelly too.

Carefully stowing away the blade, the technician slowly lowered herself down to get out of the cramped shaft.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

@Amaya's Gate:

Nimura stopped her forward momentum at Kai's first shout, which proved fortuitous for her as the consoles she was about to fly over suddenly turned into monstrously large crab-like pincers that scissored the space she had been about to cross with a deadly-sounding snap.

Non-pulsed, Nimura (now completely stealthed) swiftly hovered back into the semi-relative safety of the corridor the rest of the Black Knights were. "Hai, Juni. Regrouping."

The consoles had since then turned into an odd hybrid between a giant slug topped with the aforementioned power armor-cutting pincer. They were slowly shuffling toward the Daisy armors, the points of each pincers twitching in the air in a manner similar to antennas. The AIES registered shrill clicking sounds on their audio pickup which they labeled as echolocation.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Echolocation... hey... uh..." Asher piped as he started to regroup with the rest of the squad. "Thass' that shit when they use sound t'pick y'up, right?" He kept his attention on the snapping pincers, pulling out his flamethrower, keeping it ready in case they came too close. While he would've been more than happy to make a flambe out of them, he was ordered to hold fire and regroup, and that's exactly what he did.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Kyou stayed quiet, but followed orders. If they were using echolocation, no reason to make it easier on them by talking in her opinion, though Asher apparently disagreed. Moving as quietly as she could in the PA, she made her way in the direction the Juni had indicated.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Yukari was thankful for the blinding white beam hurtling in the ship's direction. It was like a whitewash keeping her mind from staring, awed and terrified, at the behemoth lumbering toward Miharu across the starfield.

The Miharu made her dodge, pressing the CDD against the interdiction and the Blue Rift to make Miharu blink from where she was to where Yukari wanted her to be. The microjump probably stressed the unit, but with the gravimetric engines shut off on her command, it was the only propulsion Miharu had.

Yukari's jump planned to put the ship's bow pointed down directly at the Koyryu from about 40 kilometers away, heading in reverse at about .01 c — farther and faster than she wanted to be, but as best she could do from a dodging maneuver lacking better calculations. Such placement would give Nyton four turrets to use on Koyryu. The shields were angled toward Tamamo, but energized armor was turned off, thanks to the reports alerting Yukari about the heat situation.

"Taii, turrets on Koyryu!" she shouted. "Aim for the bridge or the starboard nacelle! Heisho, disable Oiwa via hacking!"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Miyoko's heart skipped a beat when she saw the new signature on the sensors. There she is... Whatever happened when Eve's ship--if she was indeed on there--got into range, she doubted she'd enjoy it. "Takumi is about five minutes out and closing," she announced as she busied herself with the sensors.

"On it," Miyoko replied to Yukari's order to hack the Oiwa, though her tone didn't sound particularly confident. Against the civilian ships, she'd had quite a substantial processing power advantage while hacking... now, though, she was going to be up against a MEGAMI. Not to mention that, with the Hoshi's CIES weakened, the ship would be less well-defended from counter-hacking while the Miharu was helping her.

Ganbarimashou, Miharu. With that, Miyoko started probing the ship's electronic weaknesses, looking for anything she could exploit to shut it down for even a second.
