Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

@Miyoko:

"Hoshi's CIES ready to take over. Shutting down," Miharu's voice announced in its scratchy voice.

Miyoko heard the hum and gentle whirrs of the quantum computer gradually fade as peripherals went offline one after the other. Finally, it was only the central processing unit that was left.

"See you later," Miharu's AI added, and then the computer quieted, the shutdown sequence complete.

@Tom:

"Stored shots isn't a problem - that's all in the remaining capacitor bank," Ichigo said, as went ahead to service the main gun, practically plugging the plug on it.

A few tense moments passed as the heat sinks and heat radiators - still glowing red - wilted from the heat saturating them, slowly bending under their weight as they were close to their melting point. With Tom having cut off coolant feed to the unit, the conduits around it stopped acting up.

They had averted a potential crisis... but the main gun as it was had been so warped from its overheating that it was practically destroyed. Tom could take a week or two to fix it piecemeal, but at this point if he at all had the supplies it would probably be less trouble to just remove it and build a new one in its place.

@Nao:

The ventral unit's EM containment indications were someway less stable, arrows indicators twitching across the green-yellow zone. After some finger tapping on the dials failed to solve the potential problem, Nao got on the job herself.

Using the nearby rudimentary button, lever, sliders and nubs console nearby (rudimentary in comparison to glassy touchscreens or hovering volumetric displays... but they were also the least prone to electronic failure thanks to their simplicity) she manually readjusted the electromagnetic fields of the container back into the green zone.

* * *

@Kyou and Asher:

Removing their capacitors to have them individually recharged was not such a great idea. With the machinery they had on hand, what they could do was replug their power armors on thier armor racks in order to see them recharged, but they had nothing to plug in and individually recharge the capacitors alone on hand.

* * *

"Tom, you might want to send people after this coolant leak," Kotori suggested to her chief engineer. From her vantage, there were two thick greenish trails of coolant that were leaking out from the ship from where Miharu had been struck at the starboard capacitor bank.

At that moment, Takumi blossomed into a expanding ball of plasma fire. Briefly, the radiance of the explosion whitewashed over Miharu, but then it faded away, with a cloud of gasses and spreading debris the remaining vestiges of Eve's command cruiser. The rejoined Miharu, now over 100 000 kilometers distant, seemed safe enough from the explosion, only suffering for it with a slight jostle.

On the bridge, Takumi's tactical indicator turned gray. Mara whooped victoriously, pumping both arms up, while Hinoto made a more demure sigh in relief.

Kotori looked at what lingered from Eve's destroyed vessel, not sure of how to feel about her victory against her nemesis, the criminal she had been hunting down for the previous four years. Much of her drive in even obtaining command of Miharu had been to get vengeance on Black Spiral and the Daughters of Eve by extension. Now that she had effectively defeated Eve, her vessel effectively singlehandedly crushing her organization, she was in a position where she and her crew had accomplished something no one before had managed to do. She-

Hold on! she thought to herself in alarm, her eyes widening at the spreading cloud of gases and debris. They had been more than 5 kilometers away when Takumi exploded. With Surtur's amplifiers inactive there was no way she might've had the range to collect Eve when she died in the explosion, and Kotori had no seizure similar to when her NH-23 original had also expired.

The Taisa grinded her teeth together in frustration. In our haste to get to safety, I wasn't close enough to put a term to Eve once and for all. We've been cheated out of that victory. She turned Surtur around and had it walk across Miharu's dorsal armor, seething. So much work to then just have Yui's archnemesis slip through her fingers. I had her, damn it!

If Miharu's shields had only still been active, they probably could've afforded lingering close and ensuring Eve's destruction. Miharu had not attained a truly decisive victory in regards to the Gate seeing how they still had Melisson to deal with. With Eve's financial information still only known by Miharu, if they never left the Blue Rift Expanse, Eve would eventually rebuild her assets.

When Surtur reached the lip of the hull breach that had opened up the wardroom to space, her eyes widened - her anger turning into incredulous disbelief.

Down at the place which had once been the observation deck stood another Akuma - identified as the Ev-M1-1B Akuma "Vermillion". Its wings matched the schematics of the teleporter wing-attachments they had discovered in the Bowhordia core, explaining why they had not seen its arrival coming. Flanking it were two Black Mindy power armors. One bearing two distinctive saber-rifles, and the other an aether submachinegun.

Kotori didn't have to guess whom they were. At this juncture, Meni and Mani - respawned, or originals if those guarding Amaya had been clones - could only be escorting one person.

If one cheek had not been covered with a large, crusty scab, Kotori might've grinned. Here she had been, frustrated over missing her opportunity to finish Eve once and all all, and then 'poof', Eve dropped in right on her lap. Was it luck? Or was this an instance where the saying 'be careful of what you wish for' applied?

Seeing a mechanical bestial face and helmeted heads look up at her, the Taisa figured she had no more time to muse around the issue. First, she needed to stall for time to warn Nyton and give him time to mobilize the Black Knights: she opened a wide-band communication channel. "Criminal Eve, by the authority of the Star Army I place you under arrest. Cease hostilities, call off your subordinates, and surrender now!"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Man, this shit juss' keeps gettin' betta'!" said Asher in a gleeful way. The Malifarian bounced up on the rack, securing himself and allowing the armor to lock in and power the capacitors. His head bounced up and down as he was locked in placed, as if he were listening to some song. "Shit if they want us that bad, they cn'just come'n get it. I got nuff'foot t'kick all their asses."

He felt the Miharu shake lightly from the distant Takumi's explosion, Asher's head-bouncing stopped for a moment as he looked around. Then, only a few seconds after stopping, his head started bouncing again.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Following suit, plugging her suit in, and running diagnostic to make sure nothing had been damaged in her forays, Kyou snorted. "If you're so eager, we could always toss you out in front of us when they show up. Let them know you want a decent fight. I'm sure they'd oblige you." As her diagnostics reported no damage to systems, she breathed out a sigh of relief. At this point, it would be devastating to take damage, with as crippled as they were.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Kai quietly thanked Nimura for her help, and then got about installing the Actuator. as it wasn't an exact fit, it took a little worming and working to get the piece in, but finally it clicked securely into place, and soon afterward the hardwired electrical connections were also together, a quick solder from a tool from the kit permanently bonding the piece into the suit. It made miniscule twitches as the suit's AIES began communicating with it, checking it for proper operation, and Kai grinned.

The Yamataian next grabbed the the Knee plate he had 'requisitioned' from one of the nearby M10's, and fitted it to the mounts on the Daisy, using the KZ magnetic bolt clamp to tighten and secure the specialized fasteners made just for these armors. With that taken care of, the Yamataian dragged the armor to a rack, propping it up then opening it, he was about to get in when he realized he was naked under the robe, and his armor did not require him to be. He looked around the bay and found-neatly folded near this very armor rack, His own uniform. He tried not to think about it, but quickly changed into the uniform, and then furtively mounted the daisy.

As the armor closed around him, he realized he did not have a helmet, the original one being marred with a bloody hole in the faceplate. "Nimura, if you could help me find a secure place to store that old helmet, I would be very grateful." Kai asked, motioning to the one his previous self had died in, before he 'borrowed' the Helmet from the same M10 that he had been removing parts from earlier.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Holy shit, banana eyes." declared Asher, stopping his head bobbing for a moment to look directly at Kyou. He threw a finger in her direction as if he had something trully important to say. It was an almost comical sight as he had himself secured, while flinging his objectionary arm around. "That is the best idea you've had all day." The Malifarian waved over at Nyton, trying to get his attention, "Ey! Clayboss! Can we do that?"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

The Takumi's final death throes registered on Nyton's uplink. It made him more nervous as he was anticipating the entrance of Melisson to the scene. Asher's enthusiasm made him roll his eyes as he listened to the banter. Reaching for a charged capacitor off the parts shelf he wondered when Hoshi would update him on the status of his suit.

"Criminal Eve, by the authority of the Star Army I place you under arrest. Cease hostilities, call off your subordinates, and surrender now!"

For a split second Nyton felt shock as he patched through to Surtur's data feed. What he saw sent him rushing into action. "Black Knights suit up immediately! Three highly dangerous bogeys aboard!" he shouted while sending the data feed to the others who could pick it up.

Seeing as they were facing armored opponents Nyton swapped his LASR for a plasma rifle and tucked the capacitor into a storage hatch as he ran out to the others. "Do we have any subspace missiles left!? Eve is currently piloting an Akuma along with another round of Mani and Meni! We need to move out and support the Taisa now!" he ordered while going over everyone's load outs. He tried to plot out the best route to engage them from while figuring out what he had available to fight with. "Whose ready to follow me out? The Taisa needs backup now and I need whoever is ready to go. The rest can follow up while stealthed to try and take them by surprise."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Nao's lips moved as she spoke quietly. "Good night Miharu." The moment of silence hung in the air as Nao stood before the console. It's yellow and red lights remind her of just what she had to do. A deep breath, and then Nao's hands moved quickly, deftly over the console. Something in the back of her mind started to bother her. Pain was slowly starting to seep back into her arms and legs and back. Even her fingers felt stiff despite their fluid movements. The electromagnetic fields on the anit-matter containment stabilized as she finished, chancing a glance a the pain medication injector by her side. Nao looked up the ladder; the exit seemed so far away now.

Code:
Tom,

The ventral unit's magnetic field readings were off, but have been stabilized. I am proceeding to exit the maintenance shaft; awaiting further orders.

Nao looked up at the ladder, and took another deep breath. She started climbing, one tense and pained handlebar at a time; she wanted to stubbornly save the medication for later. What good was she if she couldn't function without it anyways?

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

The demon. Why would she not die?

Yukari's eyes came away from the main screen as Miharu shut down and Hoshi replaced her. The chatter on the armor's comm was clear enough, so Yukari did not need to draw up a picture. Data was fed directly from Kotori's special armor anyway.

"Saito-Juni, hasten your work, please. Eve is on the vessel and Kotori is confronting her and two Mindy armors. Freeman-Juni, keep your personnel focused on repairs." Nyton was already talking to his team.

The Shosa looked to the bridge door. She, through Hoshi, activated the force field barriers at the entrances to the bridge.

Keep them focused, do not let them bore down on considering Eve's presence, she thought.

"Mara-san, what is the status of Melisson's flagship?"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Kyou's head jerked around at Nyton's words, hands already moving to replace her helmet. She checked her charge, and grimaced. Her best shot was to plan on teleporting out of there at some point, to grab new capacitors, because hers weren't all of the way there yet. Nonetheless, she disconnected, and resealed her suit, grabbing her plasma rifle. "Sir, I'm ready to go now, or I can teleport to your coordinates once you're there, either way."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Nyton looked over his resources again and started piecing together a plan. "No, Gunshin, Westwood, stay plugged and get those teleporters charged. Those could make the difference in this fight. Nakamura, finish getting your suit ready and move out with them. You three will be the second wave so approach stealthed and attack at the best moment while the enemy is occupied."

"Kurohoshi, Nimura, you're with me. We will fly out from the launch bay and outside the ship to join the Taisa. Once we arrive we will focus on defending the Taisa and occupying Meni and Mani until the second wave arrives. That will be our opportunity to take the initiative and go on the offensive. After initial contact Gunshin and Westwood will go visible and engage with saber rifles while Kurohoshi and Nimura stealth out and take a supporting role via opportunity shots on the enemy. Nakamura's role will stay the same in stealth support." Nyton laid out as he explained the operation.

"Situation will warrant partners after we engage. If everyone understands then let's move out. Kurohoshi, first wave is waiting on you." he said with finality and a motion towards the exit.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Ey Kuro-Juni! Might wanna' opt for a thicker helmet wit' some neck armor! Tha' Spiral's been lovin' y'head t'day! N'I mean they been lovin' it t'death!" laughed Asher, his limbs moving around with his torso remaining static. It was obvious that he was trying to hide a greater mirth, and he wasn't able to hold it for long. "Hell! You should juss' leave y'head here! You'll triple y'chances! Ha ha ha ha!"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Kyou sighed, reaching out to plug her armor back in with one hand and slapping Asher in the back of the head with the other. "Shaddup. She still outranks you, even if you find her amusing." She sighed, checking her capacitor levels. "Plus if you're worried, we just have to get there and protect them faster, so get ready."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"You know what they say about third time's the charm, Westwood. Just don't get too excited and blow the second wave's approach." Nyton quickly interjected.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Masako was already pulling off the Daisy's helmet when Asher decided to crack a joke. Glancing over her shoulder, the Warrant Officer gave the man a raised eyebrow before snorting slightly in amusement. "Morbid as ever," she commented. Practically ripping off her bathrobe, the small Neko used her inertial flight to plant herself into the Armor's fleshy core.

"Ready," she reported as she shoved the helmet over her head, checking its seals with a tug. Grabbing her plasma rifle, she checked its connection and allowed a small smile under her helmet. Masako then moved to join Nyton and Nimura.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Understood, Miyoko replied to Yukari. Relying on her repairs to resist Eve--That was a nice way to put a little pressure on. Once the MEGAMI was shut down, Miyoko hurried to start stripping it of the fried modules and swapping them out for their fresh counterparts. The whole thing made her want to kiss whoever decided to make the computer compartmentalized and easily field-reparable, since the same process would be taking hours if she needed to repair parts instead of replace them.

She was going to stink of ozone until she managed to get a shower, but with all that had happened today, how she smelled wasn't her biggest worry.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Asher threw a foot in Kyou's direction in response to her disciplinary jab. Since he was restrained, his leg couldn't go far, and unless she was right next to him, she'd likely dodge it easily.

"See? She thought it was funny." explained Asher to Kyou and everyone else listening. Though, he wasn't one to miss her removing the bathrobe and then hopping in her armor. It was obvious he was staring for the few short moments she was exposed. As soon as her body was armored, he turned back to Kyou, continuing with her as if someone had hit 'play' on him.

"You guys are all 'oh shit is bad, oh tha' Miharu looks like swiss cheese, oh a buncha people died'!" declared the Malifarian, whirling his arms around in exaggeration. "Why y'all gotta' focus so hard on tha' bad shit? I mean, Kuro-Juni's died twice, n'her tits are still perky, so tha' world cn'keep spinnin' rightly. Naka-boss over there took a bladed elbow to tha' face, but that face came back more woman-lookin' than eva', so he's fine too! Even tha' sprites that bit it so far are gunna' get revived! Hell, I'm tha' only one who's got anythin' t'worry about, n'I'm the most relaxed! Explain that shit t'me."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"You're insane with psychopathic tendencies but I won't hold that against you, Westwood." Nyton curtly replied to Asher as Masako locked her helmet on.

"Alright first wave, we're going in hot and heavy so be ready for anything. Form a defensive wedge in front of the Taisa and we'll cover each other until the second wave can make their strike. Nimura, Kurohoshi, on my flanks. Let's go!" Nyton shouted as he led them out. Constant uplink via AIES would inform them of the situation as they approached the now leveled wardroom section of the ship.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

That last comment by Asher only served to make the Warrant Officer grumble. What did her breasts have anything to do with being alive anyway? But that didn't matter as Masako took a deep breath to calm herself moments before she followed Nyton out.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Kai was thankfully too busy to hear Asher's comment about his face, as neither of the two things the Malifaran clone had said were all that pertinent to the current situation. It took him a few moments of inspecting the helmet, making sure it actually was compatible. Satisfied that it was, Kai dawdled on actually putting it on, thinking about what might have happened after the last time he had put the helmet on; the old bloody helmet showed him that he had obviously made a bad decision, and he had to prepare himself, make sure he was thinking clearly, and most of all, not afraid of the stupid helmet.

The Helmet clicked on, sealing with a slight hiss, and locked itself down. That done, Kai found himself a Plasma rifle, a LASR, and as many of the minimissiles as he could fit in the partially emptied racks on the armor. He added a number of Subspace detonating and countermeasure missiles, just to be sure that he had a good mix, and then tested his Thermoptic camouflage, finding it to work.

"Well, I'm ready to go when you two are." the Yamataian announced, propping his plasma rifle up ready to fight.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

The messages came in from Nao and Rin. They had done excellent work, and the engineer filed that away in the back of his mind for the debriefing, should they make it that far.

He acknowledged Kotori's message and sent a quick report to Yukari.

Shosa,

The main gun is damaged beyond repair. It is no longer functional. Redirecting ship resources.

Next came Rin and Nao.
Good work you two. I'm in the process of pinpointing the locations of the coolant leaks. Once I find them, I need you both to take care of them. Rin, flip the breakers on the remaining drives... they can remain on standby without using ship resources. I will handle that.

-Freeman-Juni

With the main gun shut down, Tom scoured Miharu's damage reports to find where the coolant was leaking from. If possible, he wanted to get a visual of the area as well, but he wasn't holding his breath for that.
