Re: [Mission 7.1] Universe at War - Battle of Nataria

"Thank you," Shizu said over their communications link, "Straight to the Cargo bay, now. The main passageway should be open now."

The Taii followed the two of them out. It felt as though they had been in this starship for too long, already. So much time spent cutting through blast doors, and then crawling through maintenance tunnels. And then there were these bugs. What were they? What were they doing here? She glanced at some of the insects that were crawling around inside the passageway - this was a mystery that she could have pursued if only there had been that little bit of extra time to check the logs.

But orders were orders. The Captain yelling, was the Captain yelling. She would have to pursue her curiousity, later.

What the hell had happened to the Eucharis, anyway?

Re: [Mission 7.1] Universe at War - Battle of Nataria

Out of instinct Tasuku locked the engineering console with a quick keystroke as he turned to leave the bridge.

He was in a hurry, without a thought he was using the armor systems to fly down each of the corridors as fast as he could manage.
He quickly came up on the discarded wings of his power armor, I'm not losing these... he said as he reached them, and in a second they had been slung over his shoulders and had automatically reattached themselves.

An idea came to him as raced through the corridors carrying the engineering logs of the Paradise in his armor, a perfectly good ship shouldn't slagged or left to the Mishhu... just maybe...
"Taii, would it be possible for you to command the Paradise to fold away from the Mishhu forces as soon as we've made it to the Fox?" Tasuku asked, though it was more of a suggestion.

Re: [Mission 7.1] Universe at War - Battle of Nataria

After securing the two bridge stations he was using, Sune made his way to the bridge entrance. He paused just for a second to look at the bridge, then headed back to the Cargo bay. He used his Mindy to propel him down the the main passageway. Much better than trying to crawl through maintenance conduits in power armor. What triggered the hatches though? I wonder if it was the bugs that caused the blast doors to shut. Lots of questions, but sadly no time for answers. Perhaps the sensor logs will reveal something. he thought. He made his way over to the shuttle. He glanced at the doors that sealed them in. Hopefully those will open, or this will be a short trip. he mused.

Re: [Mission 7.1] Universe at War - Battle of Nataria

Pineapple had the shuttle running. "Ready when you are," she told the rest of the away team.

Re: [Mission 7.1] Universe at War - Battle of Nataria

"Aye - give the Paradise the signal to open the hangar door, and take us out."

Shizu sat back into the first drop seat, nearest the pilot's house of the shuttlecraft, and looked back at the away team that had clambored in after her. She took a quick headcount to make sure that they were all present, then she tapped on the divider between the pilot's house and the drop area. The loading doors closed. The Away Team was, once again, Going Away.

She had not replied to Tasuku while they had been moving through the passages. She had not replied to him when they had entered the shuttle bay. She had not replied to him when she had given the silent order to load up.

But, as they settled in for what was probably going to be a very bumpy ride, she did muse over the open com. channel, as if speculating;

"We should be able to operate the Paradise remotely from the bridge of the Eucharis, with this card. I will make the Captain and her Executive aware of the option."

Re: [Mission 7.1] Universe at War - Battle of Nataria

Sune took a seat near the rear of the shuttle. That they heard from the Eucharis meant that she at least was still in operation, although no telling what her condition was. When he heard Shizu comment on Takusu's suggestion say that she would make the Taisa aware of the option he thought. Well, I wonder where I heard that suggestion before... It does not matter at this point.

He instead decided to instruct the AIES to search the sensor logs from the Paradise for an indication of when the bugs got on board. After a few minutes he made note that the bugs arrived shortly after the attack on Nataria began. He also noted the rate of reproduction, and that it leveled off about thirty minutes after they fist go on board. Interesting data, but with the opportunity to examine some specimens hard to determine their purpose.

Re: [Mission 7.1] Universe at War - Battle of Nataria

Once everyone was aboard, Pineapple slammed the throttle, sending the Golden Apple shooting out of the Paradise like a cannon ball. Then, with a sudden change in direction, she navigated a jagged course back to the waiting Eucharis, which opened a brief window in the shields, allowing the shuttle to get inside, where it could dock. They were barely in the bay when the Eucharis went to warp, changing its position. Every few seconds, the ship would move again to a new random position.

Hanako unlocked the blast shutters so the away team could get to their stations, and waited on the bridge for Hamada to report for the card key.

Re: [Mission 7.1] Universe at War - Battle of Nataria

Sune exited the Golden Apple once the door could be safely opened. He walked over towards the decon station, once he entered it he initiated the process. First ensuring that his Mindy was clear of foreign objects and contaminents. While the process was underway he established a link to Charisma, and transferred the sensor logs from the Paradise, along with his analysis. Once it was safe for him to exit the power armor, he did so and then donned one of the available AMES. Once he has the suit sealed, he quickly stowed his power armor onto one of the racks in the bay, and then crossed over to the Medbay to check how things were going with Konoka.

Re: [Mission 7.1] Universe at War - Battle of Nataria

Hamada stepped into the bridge.

She was still in her power armor. When she entered, she removed her helmet and held it beneath her arm. Carefully, she pulled her hair free from the helmet and body of the suit. Rather than changing out of it, she had simply gone through the decon room, dropped off her Aether saber, and marched straight to the bridge. A proper uniform could wait. The card was important.

The Taii offered it to the Taisa.

"This is the card," she said, glancing to the forward display with a somewhat reflective look, "The fleet in stasis is yours. The Paradise - the ship we found it on - is fully operational. If you can arm its ordinance and put it to warp from this bridge, I see no reason why we could not use it."

Her eyes came back to rest on the captain. They were quite unreadable.

"Are you quite alright, Ketsurui-Taisa?"

Re: [Mission 7.1] Universe at War - Battle of Nataria

Hanako avoided the question for now.

"Paradise will not accept our remote commands because it no longer has the key card required to accept them," Taisa Hanako said, looking down at the card now in her hand. After a moment of contemplation, she inserted it into a slot at the rear of the bridge; the captain's own station had been destroyed when Hanako blasted the bug on it. It took only a moment for her to issue the mental commands needed. Hundreds of thousands of the forsaken old warbirds responded. With a heavy heart, Hanako sent the final order.

"Nika, Ramiro, please get us out of here," Hanako said, not wanting to witness any more of the destruction than she had to. It made her feel sick.

The Taisa then turned to her Second Officer. "Good work, Hamada."

Re: [Mission 7.1] Universe at War - Battle of Nataria

Misaki stood up, and bowed towards the front of the bridge, saying goodbye to the ships with respect.

"You heard her. Get us out of here. When we're clear of the theater of battle, send the message to command, and get us a sitrep on the other ships. I want to know how they're doing. I'm glad you were successful, Taii." The Chusa added, before turning the intercom on.

Sighing inside her MINDY, the NH-27 felt somehow more anxious than when their fate was uncertain. What she held back was catching up with her at the certainty there would be nothing more for them to do, nothing more they could have done to save those ships, her sympathy to their AI systems was a palpable lump in her throat.

They had done it, the cost was not something Misaki was proud of, but it was done.

Re: [Mission 7.1] Universe at War - Battle of Nataria

The Taii held the captain's gaze for a few moments longer. There was perhaps a hint of concern in her peculiar stare as she matched the captain's eyes. She glanced afterwards to the executive, and the Taii lingered on her for a few moments, too, with the same expression. But her thoughts, if she had any, she kept to herself.

Then she bowed, slightly. The floor became her focus. A few green strands of hair fell to veil her face.

"Thank you, Ketsurui-Taisa."

She stood from the bow and turned for the door with the obvious intention of leaving the bridge - presumably to change out of her armor.

--------

Space was still, more or less, empty.

Somewhere out there, a Mishhuvurthan warbird was lurking, watching the ministrations of the single Plumeria with interest. Someone on its bridge must have been amused by it.

Their stealth flickered.

Their torpedoes tore through the as-of-yet-undetonated ships in stasis like bullets through crepe paper, tracing the path of the Eucharis as it hopped from one place to another.

It was worth noting that, for no immediately explainable reason, the Anti-FTL fields in the area around Nataria had dropped.

Re: [Mission 7.1] Universe at War - Battle of Nataria

Ramiro didn't need to be told twice. Once the boarding team had been on its way he had his finger hovering above the button to activate the fold drives. This way they wouldn't be in the middle of it all when it started to go fourth of july on them. He punched the button and the ship, bathed in blue, took off towards Yamatai.

Re: [Mission 7.1] Universe at War - Battle of Nataria

Everything happened swiftly; The return of the Golden Apple, Misaki handed the passcard to Hanako, Hanako made a decision and ordered the warp out.

Ramiro acknowledged and sent the ship into hyperspace outrunning the torpedoes that suddenly appeared and came after them.

All the while, Nika was monitoring the ship's system carefully, coordinating with Junko closely on power distribution. Even now in hyperspace, power still needed to be regulated to prevent any overload and such. Still, they had fled the battlefield, which released much of the stress.

Right now, they really have to worry about those bugs... praying hard that the latters did not chew on any violate hardwares...

Re: [Mission 7.1] Universe at War - Battle of Nataria

Once in the bay he approached Konoka. "Miyazawa-Hei, do you have any living samples of the Mishhu insects available? I want to do a detailed analysis to try and determine what their purpose is."

Re: [Mission 7.1] Universe at War - Battle of Nataria

"Oh, Jalen-Hei, good, you're here. I'm glad you're OK." smiled Konoka a bit wearily. "Ho fish...Yep, I've got a live sample. Watch it....it's BREEDING in there...ick. Be careful to keep it contained....I've been running an analysis...all I know is that they're fast-breeding, silicon-eating buggers. I've never come across anything like them.....Any ideas, hmm, Jalen-Hei?" She grimaced, shuddering as she forked over the sample gingerly. Thos weird Mishu-bug-silicon-eater-THINGS creeped her out. It was bad enough they'd nearly swarmed and eaten up the ship, but Konoka had had to spend some quality time with the bug-thingies watching them squirm and breed and chirp during her analysis. and it was seriously freaking her out.

She sighed, yawning. She was tired, worried, and creeped out. She'd love to just slack off and take a nap. However, she had a job to do, and it was important. Focusing on what needed to be done, Konoka tried to think positive. Positive, right...OK. Sune was alright, so she was less worried. Most of the bugs were fried like burnt takoyaki....which reminded Konoka that she was also hungry. And besides, she was helping people.

That put it into perspective, and, sighing, Konoka returned to her work, knowing it would be stupid to complain, after all, this was her favorite job.
