RP: 21st Fighter Sq [Mission 7.2] Operation Payback - Fighter Launch

When the larger blasts of the capitol ships started flying, Yaeko immediately started banking and swerving around them as they came.

"Just like simulation training," she called out as she moved closer to the larger ship. The entire way she fired at whatever unfortunate battle pods came into her line of sight, but between the swerving it mostly turned into a 'pray-and-spray'.

Errowyn and her wingman sudden manuever on the Battle Pods, catching them unawares, had a clean run at the designated targeted NMX Battleship. Only target for her and her wingman was the Battlecruiser filling the view. Running tight against the ship, making it very hard to be hit, aimed and fired aether cannon fire at the Battlecruiser's guns and missile launch ports as they headed for their target. Seeing it come into view, quickly locked the Anti-ship missiles on it and fired a deadly salvo towards the NMX battleship's targeting arrays and communications section.

Her wingman followed suit, firing at the same places she fired at to ensure destruction of the weapon systems she had fired upon, leaving behind a trail smoldering wreckage for the rest of the Fighting Diamonds to expand on without worry of being fired upon. Seeing the targets where she fired her anti-ship missiles at, added more destructive Anti-ship missile where she cracked the protective shell of the more delicate innards.

Errowyn jerked the controls of her Kawarime as a flash of energy nearly blinded her from friendly fire, sending her Kawarime out of control. Instinctively or accidently, extended her landing legs for a sweet rollout along the side of the NMX Battleship.

Wingman watch with trepidation as Hellcat's Kawarime collided with the side of the NMX Battleship as it turned into amazement when it zipped along the side of the ship as if she had landed on a runway instead of an enemy battleship.

Errowyn gritted her teeth, closing her eyes and "seeing" through her SPINE interface as her physical sight was nothing but an after image of bright light spot.. Depressed the firing trigger and keeping it depressed to clear a path for her run along the side of the Battleship, hopefully, clearing a path free of obsticles.

The Diamonds followed Yaeko's example and fired their cannons when possible, but concentrated on getting through the enemy fire in one piece. However, there were numerous battlepods that were taken out by them.

The Emeralds in the six position was better suited to taking out any battlepods that tried menacing the Diamonds.

On the Squadron's IFF Hellcat's signal became intermittent. The last reliable position had it heading to the hull of the Battleship in a collision vector. The evidence of her rash rush to the ship was clear in the explosion on the battleship, and several secondary ones.

However, her wingman Kenshin's fighter was still being picked up and seemed to be flying parallel to the hull.

The Diamonds were reaching the designated fire point.

-------------------------

Hellcat's Kawarime streaked across the hull of the battleship, her cannons blasting anything directly in front of her, but other minor obstacles struck the fighter. The Kawarime's wings sliced through a number of small electronic poles , jarring the fighter and its occupant. There were multiple impact reports on the HUD for structural.

0053 finally started clearing the hull due to the curvature of the warship hull. Unfortunately the main landing gears struck a protrusion and were sheared off.

Anne remained more to the back with her Teisatsu, just shooting few potshots at the Battleship from afar. She was no proper combat pilot and her role here was to support others. Which she did. Both her Wavefronts modules were on full power. One jamming enemy comms, while other tried to confuse their targeting. Anne remained more to the back so she had time to calibrate the wavefront modules as needed.

Errowyn gritted her teeth, keeping an "eye" on the HUD display and feeling like she was being shaken as she rolled along, taking advantage. Then suddenly lost of hydrualics light flashed across her view. By then she was clearing of the NMX battleship's hull.

Her hands flew across the controls, retracting the landing gear. "feeling" then settling into place, began to reroute what was left her hydraulic to flight control, taking not the loss of the landing legs on her Kawarime.

~~so much for the three point landings~~ Thought flew through her mind as she struggled with her Kawarime, joining up with her wingman as she took stock of her armenents still left at her disposal. Aether cannons were showing abit hot from the continous firing. Missile load was down to the lighter anti-fighter class missiles.

"Wingman, Target destroyed?" Errowyn sent a tight beamed tranmission to him.

"Double whammy as you ordered, Hellcat. You cracked the shell, I scrambled the innards," He replied with abit of cheer and excitement lacing his voice. "I dont think Command is gonna like the new paintjob you gave your Kawarime though."

"I'm a bit sluggish on flight control and can see only internal." Errowyn smirked to herself.

Her wingman easily caught up and did a visual survey of her outside of her ship. "under carriage of your wings are abit shredded as along your forward wing edge. Hydraulic markings on your hull near the landing struts."

"What's the rest of the team doing?" Errowyn asked, smacking a console to clear up the haze it was producing on her scanners.

"Making their run with the Emeralds dealing with the Battlepods, keeping them off our backs for now." He replied and continuing, "just got basic fighter to fighter load on missiles, Aether cannon still fully operational." He paused, then continued, "you gonna return back to mothership?"

Errowyn wanted to stay with the group, but with her Kawarime the way it was, made a hard decision, "You want to stay or escort me back?" bracing herself for the return flight back to the Hietan through the field of loose destructive energy and missiles flying all over the place between the two fleets.

"I'm your wingman, I go where ever ya go, Hellcat," Calmly as if this was a walk in the park.

Yaeko's scowled as she noticed Errowyn's fighter headed towards the enemy hull.

"Hellcat! I ordered the squadron into formation damn it!" Just then she saw the IFF stop broadcasting.

"Shit!" she said under her breath before flipping her comm back on.

"Murasaki, make sure she's alright and then get her back into formation. The rest of you, stay on target."

Yaeko continued to move forward and dodge the oncoming shots until she broke past their firing line. Pausing for a second to allow everyone else to catch up she initiated fire with her cannons and launched her aether torpedo.

"Missiles away diamonds!" She called out as she banked to her right in order to loop around back and help out the Emeralds.

Elisto kept a firm grip on his flight stick, weaving in and out of the fire and flanking Yaeko's fighter, watching for any battlepods and occasionally engaging the wavefront gen to jam any incoming missiles.

When he cleared the line, he engaged the targetting module and sent the targetting data to the rest of the squadron. Then, he hit the firing controls for his torpedos.

The Battleship was severely wounded by the assault. There were multiple rents in the hull and secondary explosions wracked the stricken craft.

After the Diamonds following Yaeko had turned back towards the Heitan, the tactical systems started showing a series of red dots. Tactically quickly identified them as a eight battle pods that had just came from behind the battleship. Three of them split of and started flying an intercept trajectory heading towards the damaged 0053. The rest of the group unleashed a volley of four missiles each after the Diamonds.

"Damn it," Yaeko said with a sigh as she started observing the patterns of the incoming battlepods.

"Scrapyard, keep jamming. Diamonds, turn around again, we're going for Hellcat. The battlepods on her are first priority."

As she said this she banked her Kawarime around and pointed it right at the three batlepods that had broken off. Streaking forward at full speed, she began firing her cannons the moment they were in range.

"Ah, Hellcat... Hunter's starting to sound a bit pissed. I think we better do as she says and get back into formation before she come tears us a new one." Kenshin said softly, his voice lightly tinged with amusement.

"Hellcat, I'm picking up three bandit's closing in on us. Look alive." The minkan announced with a frown, as he nosed his fighter back toward's the rest of the squadron. He began taking small evasive actions whilst continuing back towards the rest of the 21st squadron's Kawarime fighters -- bobbing his fighter-craft too-and-fro so as not to allow their pursuers an easy shot.

Errowyn growled in responce, smacking the side of her Kawarime, knowing she had bitten off more than she could chew, but determined to come out on top.

"Aye Aye!" She growled out, replying to her wingman, seeing the three Battle Pods heading their way as she began her evasive manuevers to link up with the rest of the squadron. Pouring on the speed she could tweek out of the kawarime.

Elisto spun his fighter to avoid enemy fire, he was constantly jamming the area and changing the jamming frequency so that the NMX wouldn't zero in on him, although he knew it was just a matter of time before one of the tin-cans got smart.

When his craft was in range he pulled the trigger and began to fire his crafts cannons at the Battlepods. Lining up, and leading his shots in order to score a kill.

As Errowyn did her best to avoid enemy fire, she was finding it difficult some of the exterior damage had apparently taken out some of the maneuvering thrusters, also her shields were not completly intact, she had weak points that the enemy if they detected would go after. So she had to compensate with the crafts other systems.

Kenshin was having better luck since the battlepods seemed intent on taking out the wounded craft. One of them fired three missiles in his direction thought.

Elisto managed to hit the lead battlepod, not enough to destroy it but it was cut enough that it let the other two move to the front.

Akemi and Kayou followed Yaeko targeting and firing when they had a solution. Spray and pray would not work, not with friendlies in the mix.

A moment later three groups of three battlepods burst onto the scene using their FTL to close in on the squadron. As soon as they emerged they released multiple missiles.

"Countermeasures!" Yaeko called out as she continued firing at the battlepods.

"Huh, what?" Came a voice from the back as Silic leaned up from his previous position with his head between his knees. It seemed like he still wasn't getting used to Yaeko's dog-fighting style. Fiddling around he activated the Countermeasure Pod and began targeting the incoming missiles.

"Elisto, keep jamming as long as you can, it's your only priority right now." Yaeko screamed before moving around maneuvering around. Looking around her and seeing that they were getting overrun she activated her mini-missile launcher, letting 40 of the 80 missiles fire off and rip the enemy battle pods to shreds.

That aught to keep them busy...if they live.

"Flares away." Silic replied tensely, gripping the side of the cockpit out of reflex, his life in Yaeko's hands as the fighter began discharging decoys.

Errowyn growled at the sluggish responces from her Kawarime, feeling the slight impacts. eyes looking over the damages her Kawarime was suffering and sustained in her bold run against the NMX Battleship, but she definitely scored along with her wingman and now the nine fates were against her.

She was definitely running, just skill in avoiding the worse of what the battlepods were throwing her way, leading them into Emerald Squadron.

Sparks and smoke filled the cockpit of the fighter from overloaded systems.

"Come on...you can do it..." Errowyn muttered to her ship as manuevered to avoid farther damage to her kawarime. Seeing the shield failure light flick from green to yellow with flickers of red from impacts from enemy fire. She rotated her aether cannon to fire underneath her and back towards the Battlepods.

She blinked as ghostly images of her fallen sisters from her batch, beckoning her to join them. "Noooooooooooooooooo!" She snarled over open airwaves of radio, "I've made it to far to fail now!" Shaking her head to clear the fuzziness from her head and focus on the job of surviving to get that tail chewing. Her squadron mates needed her more than her dead batch sisters.

Venting the noxious air directly to space made it look like her cockpit exploded.

The area around the 21st was a pyrotechnic dream or nightmare depending on your perspective. Missiles were detonating everywhere, some due to the jamming being created by Anne and Elisto. Others because they where striking shields or being shot down by defensive fire from the Kawarime.

Half the battlepods had been taken out by the desperate actions of the squadron, but supplies were dropping fast.

"Diamonds prepare to make run for the Heitan. Emeralds are clearing the road for you." came across the radio.

Six inbound Kawarime charged at the fracas, their cannons blazing and the last of the battlepods were destroyed. The Emeralds rotated their craft and kicked the engines into full thrust. "Hunter, your people can buy the first round at the Safety Valve once this operation is done." came from the lead of the 22nd.

The Emeralds Kawarime were chewed up and trailing smoke from damage, but still operating. The took up position behind the Diamonds with their Teisatsu providing additional coverage.

"Thanks 22nd," Yaeko responded into the radio. "You can count on that round, just help us get our injured home. Diamonds, full speed." Pushing full power to her engines, Yaeko sped forward towards the Heitan."

Errowyn purrred with relief as the last of the battlepods died, slowly bringing up the speed on her kawarime.

She accessed the damage of her kawarime and it didn't look pretty. It was downright nasty and the techs were gonna be very busy with her Kawarime.

=^= "Heitan, this is Hellcat. Requesting emergancy landing proceedures. Kararime heavily damaged with no landing legs. I'm fully operational." =^= Errowyn called ahead to Heitan abit subdued on squadron and Heitan shared frequencies.

Errowyn watched as another batch of lights turn red. At least the fight was over for her, unless there was a back-up Kararime for her to rejoin the battle with her Squadmates.

Kenshin snarled to himself as he rolled his fighter. The ship's inertia still carried him back toward's the Heitan, following in Hellcat's wake, but the nose of his fighter was pointed back towards the pursuing battlepods.

The pilot unleashed a bright, furious barrage of teal aether in the direction of the approaching hostiles that were fixated upon Hellcat -- trying desperately to keep his wingmate alive.

The anti-missile system in his countermeasure pod went active, trying to intercept incoming hostile misiles before they reached their targets. The minkan gritted his teeth, sweat beading down his face whilst is eyes were totally fixated upon his HUD.

Then came the cavalry; the six Kawarime fighter's of Emerald squadron swept in and blew the last of the pursuing battlepods into smithereens. The build-up of tension caused Kenshin to unleash a sharp sigh of relief, whilst he re-alligned his fighter to match the orientation of Hellcat.

"Damn... that was close."
