Rejected Character Muse Leal

OsakanOne

Retired Member
Name: Muse Leal

General Information

Species: Helashio
Gender: Male
Age: 23

Family / Creators: The late Janu and Sakanz Leal

Employer: Orcchestra: Lorath Royal House
Occupation: 5th level physicist (Lorath Equivalent of a doctorate) Rank: none
Current Assignment: Pseudo CEO of the LAZ (Lorath Active Variable ("Z") Research Foundation, AKA Lazara Precision Systems

Physical Characteristics

Height: 5'7"
Weight: 135lb

Build and Skin color:
An athletic build though it is not particularly pronounced. Curves not usually associated with males about the hips, buttocks, shoulders and overall stance. Not obvious through typical attire.
Skin is a mild complexion, a soft pinkish color. Clean and exceedingly well kept. Body hair is sparse and thin, closer to fur than hair. Facial hair non-existant.

Facial Features and Eye color:
Eyes: baro-sensitive coloring (fair grey in warmer/lower pressures, brown to black in higher pressures/colder temperatures). Often closed or narrow. Eyebrows often raised involuntarily as a neuro-reaction from years of use with a slave control collar, usually goes un-noticed.

Facial features:
Fair and androgynous. The term handsome is preferred.

Hair color and Style:
Medium comb-over/parting (ending just past his chin), tied back into a short shoulder-length pony-tail or loose and allowed to flow to shoulder length. Thick if wet. Usually a dark brown or dyed a gray.

Distinguishing Features:
A scar set into Muse's scalp little larger than two or three hairs across is usually hidden by the medium length comb-over and upon his left arm, level with the collar-bone is an emblem or tattoo. Speaking of either will merit anything between a change in topic, null response or physical aggression.

Psychological characteristics:

Muse comes across as calm and level-headed with a mild pleasant personality, often polite to a fault. He has a deep love for his work and is capable of losing himself within it and because of this, he can come across as shrewd and sometimes anal.

Muse has something of a dislike for violence, he has little trouble executing it himself and despite appearing ernest, passive and often submissive the majority of the time, Muse's real intentions remain hidden and often hidden away from those around him.

He will often lose himself in his work and is driven by a deeply en-grained desire to decipher all things. Ironically, he has taken very little time to decipher himself emotionally, using work as a distraction from an uncomfortable subject area.

Likes: Knowing his place, distractions, puzzles, rare or quirky things, flying or moving quickly, carefully crafted things.

Dislikes: The tedious, the senseless, the boring and the pointless. Restriction without purpose. Rushed and poorly crafted objects. Slave control collars. The Lorath Psionics house.

Goals: The respect of the scientific community, to achieve the ambitions of his 'mother' (owner), Dr. Janu Leal

History:

[DATE] [EVENT]

YE-06 - Conceived.
YE-14 - Subject is taken in entourage by Dr. Janu Leal
YE-23 - Sakanz Leal pronounced deceased in urban incident
YE-28 - Owner status terminated: Dr. Janu Leal deceased

After being brought to the Leal family as a slave and entrouage (assistant) to Dr. Janu Leal, a Lor born 5th level scientist who's knowledge spanned a wide range of subjects, Muse was granted a name.
Supposedly, the particular name was granted not for his timid nature but unusual curiosity for a Heleshio.
These were qualities Janu found endearing and he was both an interesting test subject and an emotional distraction for the feelings of her dead son.

Muse was noted to have something of an obsession for racing or flight of any kind and would spend hours listening to stories or observing the skies of Lor, despite never being able to fly or ride himself which quickly chilled the obsession back into a minor interest until he grew older and the oppertunity was granted.

Dr. Janu became quite attached to Muse. Treatment would bounce between student, assistant, son, companion and pet almost seamlessly though as this went onwards, Dr. Janu became something of a recluse in the fear of what the scientific community might think of her.

After receiving knowledge that she was terminally ill, Dr. Janu became relentless in her teaching and expected Muse to continue her legacy despite the obscenity of teaching to a Heleshio.

Following Janu's death, it was announced in Dr. Janu's will that Muse was to inherit both her and Sakanz' assets and within months, Muse announced the invention of the high-resolution graviton coil which elected great interest within the Lorath Military.

Acting as a conglomeration and front of development for assets which would be exchanged with other entities beyond the Lorath House, the Lazara Foundation (known beyond the house as Lazara Precision technologies) was created in order to boost the assets of Orcchestra. The reputable name of Leal's works and the obedience of Muse are vital in the control of this entity as a capital experiment.

Skills:

Science - Muse has a doctrine-level understanding of applied particle physics, thermodynamics and newtonian physics. [1]

Mathamatics - Muse's understanding of the physical world extends deep into probability, computer/logic science and quantum mechanics though a full understanding of the latter two subjects is still under work. [1]

Humanities - Muse has a keen interest in philosophy and can comfortably debate and apply a range of philosophical topics including those of science, logic, probability and the metaphysical with something of a bias towards what would be eastern philosophy, after much discussion with Dr. Janu.
Despite his interests and deep knowledge, he holds no qualifications in this area or practical knowledge of using this skill. [1]

Leadership - From living around Janu, Muse has learned to behave in an authoritative and responsible manner. Before reaching a conclusion, Muse will break down a situation into it's constituents and work strategically in decisions of importance. [1]

Domestic - Having worked as both a domestic slave and companion, Muse is very familiar with a wide range of recipies, cooking techniques and able to easily clean and repair domestic objects. [1]

Entertainment - Acting as a companion for Janu Leal, Muse was trained from a young age to please a woman and provide emotional companionship alongside thorough experience in the bedroom. [1]

Vehicles - Muse has an unusually keen interest and ideal in what makes a perfect product and can be seen as a connoisseur of a wide range of machinery. Despite not being especially skilled, Muse is competent with cars, mecha and hovercraft and has a genuine love for the cockpit and drivers' seat alike. Muse also understands the lingo associated with each though can sometimes be caught on the wrong foot. [1]

But ... the Helashio aren't related to humans. They don't come from the same place. They don't have the same culture.

Or do they?

Whoa. Whoa whoa whoa.

First of all, fix the weight. Nine pounds is damn near impossible.

Second, what is this "Entourage" period you're talking about? The Lorath got one sample of airbike racing. One. And it was Yosef's airbike, which I'm sure didn't exist in the mind of the Lorath at that time.

Third ... the history just loses me. The Lazarus family must be Lorath, right? If so, please say so. If not, explain what they are and how they discovered Lor. Because otherwise, this makes no sense at all.

Last, but not least, is the skill set -- why are you letting science take three slots? It can take up only one, if you want.

9lb was a placeholder. I don't understand weight in terms of people.

Entourage was a term I discussed with Tomoe. It means when a Heleshio is under ownership: Said Heleshio is binded as an entourage to the owners.
Is there a better term?

The airbiking thing needs resolving but he generally has a keen interest in anything capable of flight or any real speed.

The family are Lorath.

And yikes! I thought each major dicipline counted as its own skill!

Thanks Doshii!

Okay, okay. I would drop the airbike reference, and everything should work on my end. The history makes sense as long as that part isn't in there.

He wins points for writing 'Helashio' right.

However, the Helashio are supposed to be - at best - considered barely-sentient servants by the Lorath and - at worst - furniture.

The Helashio at one point forced the Lorath under the earth. From there, the Lorath had millenias to nurse their hate of their sister sentient race and when they came back, they decided that defeat was not enough - their vengeance had to go beyond... they had to subjugate them to the point of stripping most of their sentience.

The Lorath take rather keenly the issue of the Helashio needing to be ruthlessly enslaved and pretty much having no personal life or learning anything at all (which extends to science) so they can never have the opportunity to be a threat to the Lorath people. The Lorath even instilled a sense of guilt and a sense of collective "This is our penance for our crimes and we must pay for it and we do so gladly" (which I think is mind conditioned because I can't believe any sane Helashio wouldn't hate the gut of their arrogant Lorath masters barring exceptions).

The Lorath were really unhappy about Yamatai forcing them into a contract which obliged them to free the Helashio after the next 8 years since no slave could remain so after 8 years of service in the YSE. They went from arguments like "they still deserve to be punished for robbing us of our skies" to "if we release hem, they won't be able to fend for themselves anymore".

All that said, the Helashio aren't exactly good as player characters.

Kotori, I've taken this into consideration.

He is effectively a servant though an educated one because his owner decided to teach him out of boredom as an experiment to see what he could comprehend.

Any unusual "boosts" are due in part from the test subject side of things.

I've discussed the character thuroughly with Tomoe and Tiff and they seem to like the idea.

He's decided into a position of power because he is effectively under the Orcchestra's thumb, he's educated by a reputable scientist and he has the knowledge nessesary to understand what anyone working within the Lazarus Foundation ("The foundation", perhaps) are talking about and probably correct them.

I'm going to have to agree with the dubious (Terran) origins of the names used as well. The Lorath seriously touted having nothing to do with humankind...

That didn't stop them from having animals on their world which are mysteriously named after animals on Earth (Wolves, for example), but I still believe that it is one of the biggest elements which crimps down the believability and the originality of the Lorath/Helashio species.

Then again, you keep writing the name right - which rarely happens - so, I still congratulate you for that.

Kotori, if the names are a hassle, I don't mind changing Janus but I insist Lazarus as a name remain, even if the spelling is altered.

With the Lorath not being related at all to Earth. *rolls eyes*

Which would include not having apple orchards or wolves too. Or at least make slight cosmetical alterations on them and name them differently to be more original.

'Muse' is a word, I'd say that arguing over it is pointless.

Honestly I believe this is just nitpicking, personally, and completely unnecessary.

Dont really like it. First off the Llamnel household would never let someone teach a Helashio simply out of "Bordom" Nor would they allow it in a family which they could tell was in morning for a family member. (The house would know it due to the fact that the Llamnel household takes care of all burial rights.)

Ontop of that the Helashio would either be stripped dry of thier sentience if the previous owner had died off. Or worse, they would kill off the Helashio due to the danger it poses to teaching the rest of the race.

His extent of knowledge also would not be so great. Along with a need for permission, there would be regular check-ups on the Helashio's progress, so the stuff like

Muse has a keen interest in philosophy and can comfortably debate and apply a range of philosophical topics including those of science, logic, probability and the metaphysical with something of a bias towards what would be eastern philosophy, after much discussion with Dr. Janu.
Despite his interests and deep knowledge, he holds no qualifications in this area or practical knowledge of using this skill. [1]

Mathamatics - Muse's understanding of the physical world extends deep into probability, computer/logic science and quantum mechanics though a full understanding of the latter two subjects is still under work. [1]

would not be as elaborate as they are now. There is a lot of revision to do, sorry. Like Fred said, Helashio are not really meant to be playable outside of pets like the one already around.

And befre you come up with the argument of the other Helashio that is around, The Lorath do not like to get to many knowledgable Helashio around. The less fully sentient Helashio, the better.
