Nepleslia and its cultural state

You're right. This is major. But that's just it. It's major and affects a lot of characters and a GM. And not just those in the Neplesia forum but possibly even those who play Nepelians within the Star Army. Heck I've been tearing at my hair trying to find possible ways to tweak my character's background. Still nothing really concrete yet.

Okay, so, let's rewind a bit.

Why do player characters often end up actually having families which hold up to our standards (father, mother, children)? Why do some have those not be the absolutely rich ones, but also end up being in the middle classes? How would this reflect from the yamataians, whom actually have full families but are descended from Nepleslians? Why didn't the clone thing turn up being that obvious before?

Personally, I'm good with the way the Nepleslians were envisioned Wes back when you were in 1995. Thing is, however, that this was 11 years ago. Not all ideas endure the test of time intact and I think this is one of them. Open the windows to metaphorically give them a bit of fresh air, I say. They don't have to be remade, I'm saying you can just allow them to be fleshed out - probably in favor of what your players seem to prefer so as to uphold the interpretations they've made thus far.

It's better than just dashing those interpretations to the side or letting the nepleslians remain static. Give Tom and his people an opportunity to turn the Nepleslians a bit in the way they'd like while still holding true to their roots.

Really, the only thing that comes to a slight shock to me would be the clone population. However, I don't think it will change Nepleslian society as much as some might think, unless there are more details we're missing.

Unless all clones are marked in some manner, or if all clones are made after a single person, ala Star Wars clones, it would be difficult to actually discern a clone from a non-clone. I also don't see how a prejudice could form, besides from the usual high-class and low-class prejudice you see everything, since all Star Army soldiers are more or less expendable, clone or not.
Since Nepleslians have been cloning for such a long time, I would wager a guess that it really isn't that hot a topic anymore, since cloning is pretty much a central part of of the race. After hearing about a company that clones, a common Nepleslian isn't going to gasp "C-clones? Oh dear!" Clones have more or less become part of the society. However, I will admit, had I known about this before I made my character, things might've turned out different.

While we're on the subject, I'd also like to ask if anyone has any more information on the Green side of Nepleslia. I don't hear much about the Green side of Nepleslia, and that's a bit of a problem since that's currently the only side open to players.

From what I gathered from the wiki on the Reds (no entry for Greens)...
they're big on cloning, war, species diversity, imperialism, shipbuilding, and organized crime. They don't like restrictive laws (especial on weapons or self-defense) or species replacement (think Yamatai). They see the greens as new-age leftists who are wrongly putting themselves in charge of all of Nepleslia, and they especially hate the senate.

This leads me to believe the Greens not NOT big on cloning, are not as prone to war as the Reds, prefer species tolerance, prefer Empires and try to keep a common law established. Am I right to assume such things, and if I am not, it would be nice to have some light shed on it.

Well, not wanting any more bombshells dropped on me or the Nepleslian player base, I may as well have Wes answer this inquiry as well.

I remember reading somewhere that Nepleslia was supposed to be about the humans.

Oh. here it is.
Whereas with all your drones, you're trying to bypass the soul of Nepleslia: humans.

And then I remember, in the same thread, reading this, written by Wes.

Basically, Nepleslia should be:

* A haven for modern genre roleplayers
* A haven for human characters, where humans are common, not nekos
* Politically charged and always offering some conflict (reds vs greens, etc)
* Full of older, proven technology; Yamatai will always have a slight edge.
* Reliant on humans or humanoid robots
* Largely male-dominated
* Full of guns and military type characters
* Should eventually expand their empire to larger than Yamatai (whereas Yamatai will shrink)
* Ultra-American culture

I haven't read a single thing about clones, other than a passing comment in an YIM window about clone vats.

And this feudalistic society concept comes as a surprise, because that's pretty unamerican too.

Maybe Green Nepleslia should become a democracy?

You're talking as if clones and humans are different species - it's just a different way of reproduction.

Since the RP has focused on the green side, and the Greens haven't done a lot of cloning, I think we can safely assume the greens do a lot less of it than the Reds, who are using cloning and propoganda, and appealing to people's lower desires (booze, sex, drugs) to beef up their numbers.

Where Nepleslia once was is something I'm custodian of - but where it is going is up to you guys.

Okay, making the assumption that most Nepleslian characters have come from the Green side and haven't been all that much in contact with the cloning business - at least on family level - is something I believe would fix the retcon issue rather well.

At least it doesn't ruin the backgrounds of the characters and allow for Nepleslia to still be presented like Wes seem to prefer.

Question is, while we are on this subject: where to now?

By default, that means that the Greens would have to become more reliant on human-like machines (droids/cyborgs) to fill the numbers cloning does not.

Discussing genetics again: what exactly have we come to conclude about the super Y chromosome?

Politics: I was having Nepleslia lean towards a democracy anyway, but Davis right now is trying to clean up all the garbage and gain the people's trust through decisive and progressive action. There should be another Nepleslia thread sometime in the future addressing how things are getting for the better (It's been about 2 IC years since Davis has 'taken office' so to speak).

I think I'll be filling the senate's seats with players from the Alliance who also want to dabble in Nepleslian politics. We're gonna be gettin' some extra planets soon, and this would be a wonderful opportunity for the players to have a say in what happens to the empire (an effective player democracy).

Elisa: "I knew I shouldn't have gone to that convention with Dastravi."
Dastravi: "I thought it was your dream to be in a propaganda poster!"
Elisa: "Can it, you're not even fully canon yet."

Really lengthy and informative read. It's a good way to analyze Nepleslia. Specifically the important, significance, and the value that the Y Chromosome has/had. All the drama that seemed to spring up during the read aside, it's still really cool to see just how deeply just that Super Y affected the entirety of the Nepleslia conversation/mind-set at one point. Might be a good time to see it return...

Wink wink @Gunhand4171 wink wink.

Edit: I realized I used the same defined type of word three times in a row. Good job brain.
