(OOC/Recruitment) Corporate Espionage

Thanks for the vote of confidence.

Remember, if you've got characters, toss them up in here or the character forum so we can all get a good look-see at them.

A look ahead (sample missions for the campaign):

The orders were simple and unassuming; a multi-division meeting for specific personnel to discuss discipline issues to be held in the third meeting room down in the hall in the Setsuna Administrative Offices.

Of course, had anyone who shouldn't be recieving the e-mails bothered to check, they would have noticed that there was no 'third meeting room' at the Administrative Office.

It was a call to action from the desk of the Director for Security Concerns...

Getting to the meeting, you'd almost wish it was in a posh room. Just some chairs for the thirty odd souls gathered, a jerry-rigged projector, and an old test hangar held in Setsuna's name on a barren world inhabited only by desert creatures and the foolish. The heat only intensified the cloying odor of lubricating grease left over from when the hangar had seen regular use as the black uniformed man stepped up to the side of the projection screen.

He didn't really have a name, not one that you could call him by anyway. To you, he was simply 'Director' and you were 'Operative'. No names, no faces. Balaclavas and black fatigues set the standard for wear, distinguished from each other only by the team patches on the upper right arm.

"Congratulations and welcome to the newest members of our ever-growing family." The Director said, his voice clearly modified by a device underneath his concealing headwear. "Unfortunately, we won't have time for introductions and a party. We've got a job to do."

The projector spring to life, displaying the image of a planet; barren, the barest hint of an atmosphere and with an unremarkable ring of ice and rock.

"This is planet Artemsia 725, on the rim of the Lonely Expanse not terribly far from Nataria. It's the site of some covert mining activities, R&A labs, you know the sort. As of 1300 hours galactic standard time, six hours ago, we lost contact with Artemsia 725."

More images cycled through the projector, shots from the orbit of the planet close enough to see the curvature of the world. Rocks and refracted light in the images betray the picture's source as somewhere in the planet's ring. A dozen or so images of Artemesia 725 pass by before the Director stops at one displaying dark shapes silhouetted against the system's sun.

"Tactical has analyzed the shapes in this image, taken by a Keyhole satellite we kept just barely on the plane of the ring for situations like this. They're decommisioned ex-military vessels, mostly small armed transports," The Director moved to highlight a few of the silhouettes, "With an escort we estimate to be gunship class or slightly above. Modifications on the hull and the general power curvature as sensed suggest pirate activity."

"Teams, I don't imagine I have to lay down the implications of discovery of our activities in the Artemesia system. Situational Analysis has drafted up three main missions which must be achieved to successfully contain this situation."

"First, we'll need a team to infiltrate the pirate fleet. Insertion will be through long-range boarding pods launched from the gunship 'Deep River', which will hold position opposite the pirate fleet using the planet's gravity well and electromagnetic emissions to hide itself. Tactical's analysis has shown that their only long-distance communication capable ship is the large gunship-class seen here, designated as Comm/G-1. Disruption of communications and the ship's fire control through destruction of the equipment or demolition of the vessel is the objective, ultimately the disposal of the task is left to you on the field. Once this is done, 'Deep River' will move into position and suppress the remaining small vessels and serve as extraction."

Another image, this one showing a campy wireframe image of the Deep River orbiting the planet and releasing drop pods.

"Another task we need completed is to send a team to the mining facilities in sector A-278, in the polar regions of the planet. Keyhole has shown pirate extraction of ores in this area. This is purely a cleaner mission; you are authorized to use deadly force. Show them we don't appreciate the theft of our materials. Insertion will be via single-use orbital insertion pod; expect stiff resistance from hostiles in the area and confined quarters in the tunnels."

More images, this time high-angle shots of a small, fairly urban looking complex under a dome. Along with the image plays a repetative series or beeps, some long and some short.

"Lastly, we have reason to believe that the Research and Application labs and main complex are still intact on the planet and that the researchers therein are still alive and being held against their will. What you're hearing is a looped Morse feedback shunted through a weather satellite uplink to Keyhole by an inside man. In case your code is a little rusty, it reads 'Research uncompromised. Variable unchanged.' The team going on this mission has an important series of tasks all to their own: rescue the hostages if any, neutralize all hostiles, and minimize the damage to the facility. We're testing the prototype power armor Setsuna is developing at that facility, so let's keep the collateral damage down."

Shutting off the projector, the Director nods to the gathered.

"Right then, you have your orders. Operation Trident commences in four hours upon Deep River's arrival on system. Good hunting."

And at this point, the PC's as a team select which mission option they'd like to complete. The other missions will be undertaken by NPC teams, whose success affects the PC's mission and vice-versa.

Wes said he'd be willing to. Diver didn't explicitly say that Wes would play them all. I was wondering if Diver was going to play the opposing force, because that's how Wes has been doing things as GM for a while, but it sort of acts like a script instead of random RP. If you plan on fighting pirate groups, I'd think that it'd be more interesting if you waited until Rine set up his pirate group, which would require RP. Of course, you can RP yourself while you're waiting. This is just a suggestion, I think it would make for more interesting RP, but it's obviously your call.

The option to include Rine in this arc later on is certainly most appealing to me and in fact served as the basis of inspiration for the sample. I hope he's interested in a little cross-action.

As far as opposing forces go, I wouldn't mind Wes playing them but I should be able to run them as well since I wouldn't be playing an actual character operating on the team level. My involvement in this, apart from planning the scenarios and whatnot, will just be as talking head NPC's and voices on the radio.

If I may throw in my two cents, I think that until Rine gets the Pirate RP up and running smooth, what would be cool is a sort of 'recruiting' time from this corporation...A little scouting around the galaxy to find the best individuals for the task force, and then do some RPs with them training and getting to know each other...I am saying this, because right now, the Fenyaro people have no way of getting off world, unless someone comes by, and Chris and Myself have characters we created on Fenyar, for this plot...Like I said, just my two cents.

That's cool, Diver. I was just worried that you might be setting the opposing force up to lose from the beginning, which wouldn't be too bad for an introduction, but makes long-term RP boring and redundant. When you're playing against other player characters, it's more fun for everyone involved.

James' suggestion is a very good one: not only will it make for good RP, but it will keep me and the other people who care about training and all that happy, because it will prevent people from making "elite" characters to begin with when they might not know how to actually play one.

I need to set up a little program to alert me whenever someone mentions my name in a post.

Anyway, I would be willing to do a little cross-action between rp's anytime, after all, pirates may end up facing any of the ships that we have roleplaying besides npcs and planetary forces.
