Their Role in Our Society and the Results Of Them
Started by: Savant Hammersmith 021A-BV87
I start this discussion with some background for all newcomers.
We are a race of pacifists. War is not our forte or desire. Yet War is the way of Life in this galaxy. We need to only look at a mirror to see that our tradition of pacifism has been corrupted.
In a moment of weakness and vulnerability, we sought aid from the Mishhu. Rightly or wrongly, our people were slaughtered by a race equally genocidal and we are reduced to a ghost of our former glory. Thousands of us are scattered throughout the galaxy. We are as directionless as the Blue Nebula where so many of us seek shelter.
Piracy has been on the rise around Port Hope and Null & Void. Nepleslia's promise to safeguard us has proven true. Their mighty fleets traverse our homes and safeguard our people. Yet War looms ever closer. We are not the only responsibility for Nepleslia and what shall happen when a time comes that they cannot spare the fleets to protect us? What will happen when we are once again protected by words and not fleets?
Dare we rely upon the Wired Rovers? The IWL? Dare we associate ourselves with our splintered kin who have earned the ire of the genocidal cats and risk a repetition of the Genocide?
The Art of Never Again says No. The Art of Never Again tells us to defend and fight. The Cult of War tells us that we must forge our own sword and gun, to stand up for ourselves without relying on the mighty Nepleslia. Yet our tradition of pacifism says that we are safest when we do not interfere with others' conflicts.
That is the mire into which we find ourselves.
I say - Let this experiment of armed Freespacers happen. We are not children who must be protected. We have the ability to defend ourselves and I say that if another Genocide were to occur, the only question was why we allowed it to happen.
Brothers and Sisters, we may not seek conflict. But War and Conflict will find their own way to us and the only ones who will suffer if we are unprepared are ourselves. I urge all of you to lay aside your doubts for a moment and observe what our allies, the Nepleslians, and our brave kinsmen who serve beside them do. Let the experiment happen and let us see the results before we cast judgment.

This experiment itself is a betrayal of our principle of pacifism! We are not a threat to anyone! By arming ourselves, we become the threat we seek to avoid becoming! What matters to Yamatai is who has guns! Anyone armed is a threat to them.
We must not become another armed camp in a galaxy of armed camps!

Our goals are the same. Our methods differ. I and my companions seek the destruction of Yamatai, to take the fight to their homes, to make them suffer as our people have done so. The Cult of War seeks a mere defense force to safeguard those who reside within our people's space. The Wired Rovers and the IWL will not associate itself with those efforts but we will watch it with great interest.
I promise our people this: another Genocide will never happen. Yamatai will burn before that happens.
