[Prologue] From the Ashes

"Got you loud and clear here in the lead car." Sera drew her pistol and wedged it between the front seats so she could get to it easily when buckled up. She adjusted the seat and the wheel. She was ready to roll, She knew how to drive in these missions, but sadly it was rare that she got to.. "How do you think this is going to play out, Trudy?"

Trudy blinked at Sera, thinking of a proper response before answering matter of factly, "Well form how I see it there are two potential outcomes. One, its an easy ride with little to no interference the proverbial cake walk if you will. Outcome number two to put it bluntly, all hell breaks loose and were stuck guarding our guy in the middle of a riot." Her focus returned to the front of the car as she finished answering Sera's question, checking her pistol again to make sure everything was in working order. As she did the routine functions check she spoke up again "Those are just the two extreme ends of what could happen mind you, I just hope it ends up being more toward option one, I really don't feel like having to deal with angry protesters today."

"Well At least I can't say you are pessimistic, what about your gut feeling about it?" Sera looked at her partner, she truly hoped that the agent had gut feelings, and not strictly by the book. She was getting antsy to get moving. As she sat there she make a few quick draws of her pistol, to make sure it drew from between the seats quickly and smoothly. ""I hope we get moving soon. Well while we wait I guess I should get to know you, we might be partners for awhile, did I see you arrive to the station on a bike? I have T-32 airbike myself. I love the thing, though I have been thinking about modding it up a bit. you ever work on your bike?"

"My gut?" Trudy said staring at Sera with a look of curiosity and intrigue "Well personally I think were going to do fine, most citizens seem to be peaceful by nature but there's always the odd few trying to cause some mischief and that's why were here to make sure it doesn't happen." She said somewhat getting carried away in her answer. "As for the bike, yes I did arrive here on it, and also yes I do work on it but mostly to keep it tuned up, its actually a bit fun for me reminds me of being back home in Ralt a bit."

Rear car

Araiah nodded as everyone reported. She looked at Andrea who seemed to be ready to get on the move. "Okay folks move out!" Araiah commanded through the radio. Somehow she was getting somewhat bad feeling about this task. There was no point worrying about that though as she just had to get trough it and do her best.

The Limo

In the limo Mayor Satoshi Takeda smiled at the young policeman sitting across the limo. "Oh a chief inspector!" Satoshi proclaimed with a wide smile. The man seemed like his emotions were quite honest. "I would not imagine I deserve so much attention for YNP. Thank you again my friend."

The bodyguard lowered the window of the cabin and poked her head in. She waved at Shizu to come closer and then whispered to the neko. Shizu then nodded, but did not say anything so it probably was not anything important.

"What do you think about our current situation Tamayomo-kun?" Mr. Mayor asked the young policeman.

Meanwhile the engine of the limousine started. It growled showing that a wild beast had a nest under the hood. Limo lifted itself of the ground.

The police cars did the same as Carver and Sera started the engine. Of course they will travel by the ground, but at least the drive or rather fly will be comfy. In these times, air travel was limited in Kyoto, due to security. At least in the central parts of the town.

With that the convoy took off. Sera easily followed the navigation path sent by the bubbly limo driver. The streets were almost empty as it the traffic was limited. Again they had to drive through several checkpoints, but it went without incident.

Trudi meanwhile noticed that a white hover-van found its way behind them. At first it would not be anything special, but after few turns it was quite possible that it was following them.

Trudy eyed the white hover van through the hover cars side mirros, watching it following them through the twist and turns of the city. After the fifth turn with the van still behind them she grabbed the cars radio to message the lead car.

"We don't have any extra security following us do we? We've had a white hover van trailing us for the past few miles."

As she waited for a reply she readied her pistol, before turning to Sera. "Things may be getting interesting here in a minute."

"Seems So." Sera muttered as she kept an eye on both the road ahead and the van behind. "Can you ask the boss if there is a back up route or are we going to try to push through on the prescribed path?"

"I am unsure as to the precise nature of our opposition." Sashi admitted. He was a little ashamed of himself at this point. The mayor seemed to focus on how he was formerly a Chief Inspector, and not how he had come to be dropped down to a simple, 'Agent'. The mayor also failed to realize the their unit, Unit Four, had a poor reputation amongst the other units.

"But, eh..." Sashi pressed himself up against the back of the seat so he could peer out the rear window and to the vehicle behind him. He gave a solemn wave to the two girls riding trail before turning back with a firm, "I've been trained to handle every possible outcome!"

As Sashi was waving back, happily all he got was a finger from the driver of the other car. As he knew it was the sour nepleslian woman. She was promptly hit in the shoulder by the neko on the passenger seat. Lieutenant Araiah.

Mayor luckily could not see that really. He was still smiling, but Sashi could see mayor tap his knee. Was he being nervous? Who knew.

"Every outcome?" Mayor said happily. "That is very good to hear. I am in your hands my friend."

Meanwhile the girl in the front car could see that the van was really trailing them. The front window was slightly tinted, but that was normal thing. Most people wanted privacy these days. White was also the most average colour you could see on vehicles. It could either be made that so it would look un-suspicous, or it was just a normal van.

"Hmmm..." came response over radio from Araiah. "Any idea how to deal with this? The bodyguard says she had not extra protection arranged. We are all. We still have about 8 kilometres before we arrive. We could stop the van, but it would make stopping and making us a target. Let's make this into a little test. What would you have me do?"

Sashi could of course hear the conversation as well.

Trudy mulled over her options for dealing with the trailing van, rubbing her chin as she thought. On one hand if they did stop the van they would know for sure what was the vans motive was, on the other hand however, it could risk the security of the rest of the escort by creating a gap for something else to infiltrate in. Weighing the options in her head she turned to Sera,

"What do you think? I'm a bit torn with my decision at the moment."

"Can we move the rear car further back and create a larger gap between us?" Sashi asked into his radio, now turned away completely from the Mayor. His eyes scanned the scene beyond the trunk of the limo.

"And even if we can't get any back-up, could we at least access traffic data from the municipal system?" He asked, pressing further, "To get an ID on the vehicle?"

After squinting to the white van for the necessary time to seem adequately suspicious, Sashi pressed back a stray lock of blonde hair and turned back to the Mayor.

"Sir, you may want to sit on the floor until we get this sorted out." Sashi instructed, "Not that there's anything to be worried about quite yet-- Just better to be safe than sorry."

Sera looked at her partner, "What do I think?," She thought for a moment, and considered the answers that she hear over the comms already. "Well I would tighten the group of cars a bit, then we pick up a little speed. I don't think the original route is viable anymore, Maybe we make a few extra turns to get around and sidetrack the path, but what ever we do we should do it soon, before the white van can get any friends involved."

Araiah smiled. Those were not bad responses at all. Sashi mentioned especially important things. So did Sera. Araiah knew what she was going to do and already did it, while she listened to them. Carver next to her did not say anything and just focused on the driving.

"Good plans," Araiah said over the comms. "Yes Sashi, like you said. 'IF we could not get any back-up'. But luckily we are members of YNP and we are in the biggest city of Yamatai. Of course we can get back up. Sera as soon as you see another police car coming from behind us speed up. Our collegues will stop the van, while we dissappear. If the van does not stop we know we are in trouble."

It did not take more then few minutes before a Zephyr in black and white with lights on its roof came behind them. Sera sped up and the convoy started going faster.

Mayor looked a bit nervous in the limo, but he did not go the ground. He could not look cowardly, so he just sat back, as if he tried to merge with his seat and be the smallest possible thing in the world.

The van also sped up to catch up and as soon as it did, the Zephyr behind it turned its lights on and let single siren call out. Van went the same speed before it took the side and stopped. Zephyr stopped in front of it.

SI4 could not see anymore as they drove off. It seemed that the van was not full of bandits after all. It did not take long and the comm-link came alive again.

"I got call from collueges." Araiah said. "Those guys were news-reporters. They waited by the town hall and went behind us. Now they have a speeding ticket to deal with."

Lead car

Sera started laughing as the tension melted off. "Fething Paparazzi." She kept an eye out for any strange cars ahead of them. "Well back to the preplanned route then?"

She still wasn't sure about staying on the route, but it wasn't her call.

With a sigh of relief Trudy lowered her pistol and relaxed into her seat.

"Well good thing we didn't fire on them eh? I mean I don't mind being on tv but not for shooting up a bunch of reporters." She said with a bit of humor in her voice, "Ill just be glad once this day is over."

"Me too." Sashi joined in with, now relaxing into his seat, "I would very much prefer to be investigating something, collecting evidence, and putting together a case. While I've been trained for this... it's not exactly my favorite part of the job."

After letting the words float in the air for a moment, Sashi adjusted his uniform a bit and told the mayor dismissively, "That said, it's an honor to be guarding someone of such importance, sir."

"No crap, I would have hated the fact my little sister coming home after her classes and found out her older sister massacred some innocent reporters." She continued to drive the vehicle along the prescribed route.

There were a few concerns that she had about what might be waiting around the next turn.

"Oh you have a younger sister? How old is she?" Trudy said trying to make some small talk, figuring it would make the trip go by a bit faster or at least let the calm down abit after the almost engagement. "I'm a younger sister myself, big sis lives up in Ralt."

"Oh? yha well Beeka is 18, she lives with me, since the Battle for Yamatai. our home town was destroyed, the only reason she survived, was the fact she was up visiting me in Koto. she really has taken it rough, but I think she is doing a little better."

She turned down the next block. keeping on hand on the wheel and the other down on her NSP wedged between the seats.

The group was making good was through the outer parts, the less and less cars were flowing around. People were not really too much to do and not many places to go to. No one went shopping, because they were all getting food-cubes. After Battle of Yamatai things and food was scarce and people were not happy. That was why the mayor was doing what he was doing.

Sera looked at the NSP prepared in the car when she caught a movement in the corner of her eye. Suddenly from the alley flew a Kouteki bus. It flew straight into their Classico car ramming it against a wall. Both Ser and Trudi were squashed inside the car, steel pressing at them.

Luckily they were in powered armour, without those they would be dead most likely. The armour protected them though. Trudi sitting in the passenger seat could see the Limo ramming into the bus, not being able to completly stop.

Sashi was thrown around in the limo as they hit into something. There was no chance for him to actually see what. The mayor was thrown forward, but Shisu caught him, before he could hit anything.

"AAAAAHHH!" Mayor screamed out in surprise! "What is going on!"

Then both Sashi and girls in front car could hear gunfire. Sashi could also hear something fall on top of the limo's roof. Everyone could hear Araiah calling for reinforcements and Andrea swearing.

Limo suddnely started moving up again, but not by its own power. Meanwhile Trudi could see a man in very padded armour inside a bus, her was holding a shotgun. He aimed it at Trudi's head and fired. The shot ricocheted from her helmet as if nothing happened, but it threw her back into the car.

In front of Sera jumped a man. He has a balaclava on his face and an energy rifle. He started firing, but her armour absorbed the fire.
