RP: Reactivated Reactivated M4: Firebase Assault

Nara watched with as much awe as her focus on the situation at hand would allow, which was not much at all. Yet the simple beauty of their enemies' blood brought about by cooperative savagery brought her some measure of satisfaction. It seemed that they worked fairly well as a team, brining brutal fatality for those that were deemed unworthy of life. Auli'i's handling of the slug-like abomination brought a grin to her helmet-covered face.

Moments after the explosions Nara was flattened against the wall by Morris. While she was grateful for the protection, she made a surprised groan upon impact. "Not exactly how I pictured getting pushed up against a wall," she thought in the moments between getting flattened against it and Morris careening shield first into the door. As soon as the door flew inward she readied her rifle with the barrel downward, flicking it up once cleared through the door and out of risk of hitting her teammates. She ran scans to detect enemy life forms, really anything that did not match that of their crew. As she moved towards the right checking for signs of life, there was one unfortunate soul that still had breath.

Quickly Nara slipped out one of her niranium daggers, severing what was was left of its neck. She watched unphased as life left the creature's eyes, with not even a flinch or remorse. Battle was not pretty and it was in her best interest to make sure they had no chance of recovering to come after them later. It brought her some measure of peace as she cleaned her blade before slipping it back into its hidden sheath. After clearing her self-assigned part of the room she checked her scans, nothing yet, though her eyes caught what might have been another corridor. Quickly she slipped behind the others and posed up next to Mike, behind Morris as she kept watch on the opposite side of the space Mike was watching.

Morris scanned the entrance, wary of encountering another enemy after their barracks got demolished. "Surprised no one noticed that." He commented, before signaling them to move forward, or would have had yet another round of artillery not hit the base-the whole structure shook as the massive 205mm shell hammered into it-one of them hit a little too close to home; demolishing the hall and nearly sending the big man sprawling. Debris pelted his armor and shield as Sandraker's dim light shone through the now darkened room.

("Control, this is Onyx 1-1; watch your fire, we've got yeomen in the facility!") The big man snarled into his comms, forgetting proper radio procedure in his annoyance. ("Sorry Onyx 1-1, squad requested a fire mission, over and out.") Of course. "Alright, let's move." He kept his annoyance to a minimum. Part of the corridor had collapsed, but from what he could tell, aside from the tracer fire lighting up the night sky was that it turned to the right.

There was really no commentary necessary in retort to Morris' observation that Nara wanted to provide. On his signal to move forward she went to move forward, however the structure shaking made her stumble a bit. Her armor was pelted by debris as well along with a fine coating of dust. Nara just shook her head, "Knuckleheads," she thought. Thankfully Morris had said something about it, her annoyance sated by how he dealt with the issue.

Quickly she righted herself, falling into formation once more joining Morris in proceeding down the corridor. As they went she ran more scans, of the facility. She kept her eyes peeled for surprise entrances or cretin that lurked within. She decided to start a tally of liquor shots to take if they survived this.

Mike looked out the hole in the rubble for a moment, shaking her head. "What I wouldn't give for clear air and clean sniping."

Casually, she shifted to keep her body on the interior wall, just inside the cover of Morris's shield, her shotgun primed as she considered just how to attach her new knife to the bayonet lug.

The Valhallan tilted his head in thought. He knew the Iron Company and competitiveness went hand in hand like ale and roasted meats, but surely the other squad couldn't have been so jealous of their progress and kill count so as to call in friendly fire upon them? Had Susan not been struggling with working off the last of his concussion, it might have made more sense to conclude that whoever fired the artillery was just inept. But he was, so he made a private vow to find out which squad had been so jealous as to act with such cowardice towards his squad. They at least could have tried to ambush them by themselves instead of using artillery to get in a cheap shot. Cowards, the lot of them!

"Gonna pull their heads right off'a their necks..." the yeoman started singing softly to himself. "Make that blood flow like fountains..." He nodded in time to the music that he was imagining to go along with the words. "Send 'em all to the Ancestors..." He trailed off as Morris ordered them to move out, adding the last line under his breath. "And send their bones on home!"

Feeling buoyed by the recitation of the nursery rhyme, Susan hefted his plasma rifle and resisted the cheerful urge to whistle as he followed the rest of the squad.

Personally he'd like to be back home, but Morris didn't voice his sentiment-just like he'd ignored. "Alright, let's move." He wasn't keen on going back the way they came so the best way was forward. Soon enough they came to the end of the hall-and yet another steel door-and beyond he thought he could hear the sound of machinery over the fighting outside. Giving it a slight nudge-he was treated to the, albeit limited, sight of what seemed to be a large vehicle bay-the large overhead lights illuminating the floor as various combat vehicles were being made ready-being overseen by one of the tentacle gribblies-the sudden attack had likely caught them off guard and now they were scrambling to get them operational. The door they were emerging from was just out of the way enough that they weren't immediately spotted; hidden behind some large crates-so Morris took the opportunity to get a better look, signaling the squad to follow.

Hunching as low as his large form would allow he signaled for them to follow-peeking behind the crates-he heard it before he saw it-some kind of PA storage unit being unlocked and the racks being dragged out by a pair of nekos-mostly consisting of those weird spikey armors they'd saw at the first base they'd encountered mixed in with the odd yam and nep armor-he thought he saw some other models he didn't recognize and "Oh hell." He shifted his gaze to the next bay as he saw an ammunition rack filled with those damnable spider mines being brought in--almost bug-like in appearance with quad housing that either had tracks or wheels he didn't know. But he saw the launchers and the Nekos loading them-explained what was laying them. Not to mention the two mechs in the next bay over-they seemed to share a similar design to the vehicle, only with scything claws, reverse jointed legs, and what seemed to be a pair of...horns-with strange glowing bits towards the top and a pair of guns below. He also noted the large curving protrusion but was unsure of what purpose it served. They were currently being loaded up with mines as well...if they got those things out, it'd be an even tougher fight than they already had.

NMX Tank Closed.webpmishustompycolored.webp

"Alright," Morris said, watching the NMX troopers work, before turning back to the squad, "They haven't got any armor support outside save for whatever was already on patrol, and we've got a chance to keep it that way-might not be the only bay, but it's a start." He pointed to the tanks and mechs. "Mike, I want you to try and knock out those tanks, Susan hit the mechs-Nara hit the PA if you can-if not get the gribbly-should be enough to disrupt them." If they didn't have an officer, if they could actually hit them fast enough, if, if, if..."Auli'i with me-hit targets of opportunity-we'll open up with detpacks first then strike hard and fast." He prepped his satchel charge...and sent it sailing-it landed just shy of the group of neko with the ammo cart, and detonated with a deafening boom-the blast wave sending several flying and causing the ammo cart to the PA rack and sending some of its contents to the floor; sadly it didn't go boom. "MOVE, NOW!" He roared, bringing his combat shield to bear and firing a few pulses as the Gribbly tried to coordinate its troops-a scatted disorganized mess as they drew various weapons-mostly pistols and the odd rifle with some going for the vehicles. "STOP EM! NOW!" They got those online and they were all dead...

Auli’I smirks as she heard Morris radio in that they were inside. “yeah apreciate it if you don’t bring down the building on us fucking Knuckleheads” She murmered to herself as she followed the group, though inwardly she was pleased she was covered. dust in fur was horrible to deal with. She hated getting wet too. The fox refocused herself as she followed and blinked. “the fuck they are making, and holy fuck is that creature disturbing to look at” she thought as she noted the explosives. While watching the Gribblies burn and die would be enjoyable to watch, she knew it wouldn’t be wise to shoot. Auli’I listened to Morris give his orders. “copy that” she said as she remained with him. She didn’t like the idea of getting separated. She gave a grown of derision as she saw it what Morris threw didn’t explode, and fired as she was ordered and moving to make sure the gribblies didn’t survive.

Mike smiled as she nodded, waiting for the boom and Morris's order before she launched herself over the railing, her shotgun's muzzle leading as she began unloading. She didn't have time for her usual mayhem inducing sabotage, but she could at least have some fun.

Normally, finding a bay like this, she would have aimed guns and wired starters to short batteries or wired starters to detonate ammunition stores or wired main weapon triggers into start buttons for late fireworks. A process Auli'i was especially well suited for. But that would take time she didn't have, yet. Right now, she was busy tossing grenades into open hatches and hip firing her shotgun at anything that moved.

With a quick "Affirmative, One." of affirmation, the yeoman nodded at Morris' orders, and mentally prepared himself. If Susan was going to do damage to the mechs, it was time to test just how much boom his modified plasma rifle could put out. He flicked the dial on the side to link all four of the weapons together, hoping that this wasn't going to backfire horribly on him in the near future. Hopefully, if the volley gun did decide to go critical, Susan would have enough warning to yeet it as an improvised explosive.

When Morris' satchel charge went off with explosive results, Susan triggered the plasma rifle to it's first stage, priming the firing chambers. He followed the sergeant out of their hiding place behind the large crates, his eyes moving over to the mechs in the next bay. Lining up on the second of the mechs, Susan roared as he fully pulled the trigger, firing all four plasma rifles at once and tracking over to the nearer mech for the follow-up shot.

Nara moved along with their formation down the hall as steathily as her healing injuries would allow. Hey at least this time she hadn't passed out right? Small blessings. Mike's statement was right on the money, though she was too focused to offer any meaningful reaction. Thankfully her armor had protected her from inhaling any of the tainted air. As they moved she heard this strange, yet delightful song. Something about making blood flow like fountains, she liked it. Had they not been on duty, she might've been inclined to enjoying the entertainment.

Combat noises outside facilitated a pleasant ambiance of violent white noise for their current predicament. Nara dropped into a low crouching position following behind Morris. The sight of his large form hunching low would've been almost comical had it not been for what she saw from their peekaboo spot. Her eyes looked over the naughty little kittens at work. She paid detailed attention as Morris doled out orders for the team. After it detonated she got set to go. "Here we go," she thought to herself as she nodded, bringing her plasma rifle to ready and wove through the chaos towards the PA rack.

On the way over she popped off plasma shots on critical points for any PA she passed and whatever NMX found themself in her path, careful to avoid directs hits on any unexploded ammunition that had crashed nearby. After she had passed through hitting everyone she went for overkill, her drones flew over placing a mini plasma grenade at the center of the PA before returning to her. Then she hightailed it away from PA to help with whatever was left of the gribbly. Her plasma rifle aimed and fire squarely at any points that would limit its mobility to try brining it down, especially if it appeared to be for communicating with troops.

Several things happened at once; Susan's plasma shot was right on the money; all four beams connected with powered down unit-smashing through its armor with a boom of a destabilizing bean as the stray arcs caught-unfortunately, the volley gun chose this exact moment to vent superheated gas from the emergency port as the coolant system struggled to keep the gun from exploding, the junior's armor growing uncomfortably hot as the outer layer of monoplate began to warp and slag in some places-compramisign its overall integrity. Thankfully his helmet held and neither his oxygen or plasma fuel caught fire, though his armor would need extensive repair and refit before it could be considered combat-worthy again.

Mike's own antics saw the deaths of several nekos-the buckshot tearing through them as they sought cover-her grenades flushing out several more as the shrapnel peppered them and their overseer-shredding the light uniforms they wore-several more scrambled for armor and vehicles-with a few managing to reach it before Nara's plasma grenade went off-slagging most of the armors within and boiling their occupants alive; with Morris and Auli'i's combined fire picking off the few that had made it. The icing on the cake was the Gribbily-it surged forward-tentacle outstretched as one sprayed some kind of brown fluid that bubbled and hissed as it hit Morris's combat shield-Nara's plasma bolts tore through it, practically causing it to explode and melt as the water within its body explosively vaporized.

That was final straw-having been caught off guard by the ferocity sudden attack, the shock of so many of their comrades lost in such a brutal fashion, and loss of their leader, the NMX nekos broke, some throwing down their weapons as they fled, while a few tried to regroup; or would have had the massive garage door not suddenly been caved inwards as the massive forms of a pair of Myrmidons forced their way in, combined with at least a half-cohort taking up firing positions either around whatever cover they could find or behind shield-touting troopers. Morris whooped as they advanced. ("Watch your fire-we're on the other end of the hanger!") Morris radioed, before signaling to the others!

("Cohort's broken through-let's go!") Morris signaled for the squad to follow, linking up with their fellows...

When Nara received Morris' signal, she got into formation behind him. The majestic display of a gribbly explosively vaporizing brought a smile to face, though it was covered by a helmet. It seemed they had succeeded, but it wasn't over till it was over and making assumptions never helped anyone. Given that, she did not get her hopes up while she waited for the others to form up.
