I decided to finally submit this occupation for the Star Army of Yamatai. I would have submitted it and another earlier, but felt it was way too barebone. But with Rawolfe interested in doing something with news stories, it seemed like the best time to fill in the rest as things progress.

So I present 1 of possibly 2 new occupations... the dreaded journalist!

This suggestion has been implemented. Votes are no longer accepted.
If you look at the article there's an actual journalist occupation and also a public relations one too.

I suppose they could be split into different articles.

Ah, I see that. If the existing professions without articles are going to be folded into this, maybe current canon can be reflected in this article. So public affairs would have a minimum rank of Shoi and a career code of 02B, while the Combat Historian/Journalist has to be a Nito Heisho and classified 02D.

Honestly, I hate journalist for an occupation name, but it was the name on the wanted article. So I didn't change it. Public Affairs or something similar would be a better name, but I can see where the confusion is coming from. Affairs is more general in the presenting information the government wants to be known. Relations is more specific in representing/maintaining the "branding" of an organization/government. English >.<

Ok, just so I can possibly unconfuse myself right now... this is what we are sticking with?

Minimum ranks
02B Public Relations Liason: Shoi
02D Combat Historian: Nito Heisho
16C Combat Camera Specialist: Santo Hei
16P Public Affairs Specialist (can be led by a PRL if they are assigned to a PR unit. Can write up/make the media components): Santo Hei

I think we should just change Public Affairs to Writer.

Public Affairs is what they call the role in the Army. It's not an MOS, just a position at a high enough echelon. Communications-related terms can get confusing with commo ops occupations... hmm...

It is a MOS actually, 46Q. It served as an initial basis for what I had written. Which is the problem as they are both journalists and spokespersons at high enough levels as they are the link between the Army and the "Press".

How about Media Specialist/Media Operations Specialist? Writer is a bit too specific.

Public Affairs Specialists are actual soldiers though. When I was an Army contract journalist, I was part of Public Affairs, but under different rules than the PAD soldiers.

If trying to avoid the typical "public affairs" as well as encompass many types of media, maybe say "Army Media Specialist"? Drive home the "ARMY" in Star Army.
