Some design scratchwork...

Kheyzat Miir

Name
Kheyzat Miir have two names – a personal or “heart” name, used among family, friends, and close circles, and a much grander public or “face” name, used among strangers, enemies, and formal relations. The heart name is always much shorter and simpler than the face name, consisting of a single two to three syllable word, whereas face names can often extend to fifteen or even twenty syllables.

Names are constructed from a finite number of syllables in the Kheyzat Miir language, noted below. Male names often end with ‘id’, while female names often end with ‘ye’ or ‘in’.

General Information

Species
Kheyzat Miir are a relatively humanoid species that reside on an arid world they call as Nasidh Miir. Survival is the rule of the day, and centuries of life on Nasidh Miir have hardened the Kheyzat Miir greatly – they are well-adapted to surviving (and thriving) with minimal food and water, they deal well with extreme temperatures, their sensory perceptions are evolved to work well in the difficult terrain.

Gender
Kheyzat Miir have three (or four) genders – male, female, and an ‘incubator’ gender called khelh. The male and female provide genetic material in the mating process, the khelh serves as an incubator. Gender division is relatively equal between males and females, at about 47% each, with khelh making up roughly 5% of the population. A genetic curiosity in the Kheyzat Miir, nearly 1% of the population has no clear gender. These are called jaeylh, and they are often treated as second class citizens. Lucky jaeylh may find work as personal servants.

Family
Concepts of family have virtually no importance in Kheyzat Miir society. Most Kheyzat Miir know nothing about their ancestry, children are raised communally, and the mating process has little emotion attached to it – it is rather a compulsion the Kheyzat Miir feel on occasion, much like a cat going into heat.

Employer
Kheyzat Miir are usually self-employed or in indentured servitude to a very successful individual. Warriors might be considered employed by their particular faction. As a technicality, any Kheyzat Miir could be considered employed by the Council of Eight (the eight God-Emperors of Nasidh Miir), though the Council of Eight rarely if ever interferes with the workings of the world around them.

Rank
Rank is a concept almost completely alien to the Kheyzat Miir – one is either superior or inferior to you, judged on an individual basis, and shall be treated as such.

Current Assignment

Physical Characteristics

Height
Male Kheyzat Miir range from 175 cm (5’10”) to 195 cm (6’6”) in height.
Female Kheyzat Miir range from 170 cm (5’8”) to 200 cm (6’8”) in height.
Khelh Kheyzat Miir range from 165 cm (5’6”) to 180 cm (6’0”) in height.
Jaeylh Kheyzat Miir range from 165 cm (5’6”) to 198 cm (6’7”) in height.
Weight
Male, Female and Khelh Kheyzat Miir range from 70 kg (154 lbs) to 120 kg (264 lbs) in weight.
Jaeylh Kheyzat Miir range from 55 kg (121 lbs) to 75 kg (165 lbs) in weight.

Measurements/Bra Size
While one could measure the hips, waist, bust of a Kheyzat Miir, the measurements would not be very telling from a human standpoint. While females have mammary glands and produce milk, they do not have breasts like humans – instead, four nipples emerge on the chest area.

Build and Skin Color
Males, females, and khelh tend to be tall, strongly built, and appear almost gangly from a human perspective. Legs are extremely long, and jointed twice – the lower joint bends backwards, like the hind leg of a goat. As Kheyzat Miir tend to stand in a somewhat relaxed stance, their visible height is usually about 4-6 inches shorter than their actual height. Arms are marginally longer than a proportionally built human, though they are jointed in a more ‘normal’ manner. Kheyzat Miir are built very evenly, with the shoulders and hips always of similar width.

The above traits also apply to jaeylh, though jaeylh tend to be much thinner, appearing gaunt and rickety.

Kheyzat Miir have very smooth, dry skin, somewhat akin to glazed porcellain in texture. There is little variance in color: pale, sandy brown is the norm, with only slight fluxuations occuring in tone.

Facial Features and Eye Color
Kheyzat Miir almost never show their faces to others for cultural reasons, which will be discussed later, so they take on a significantly less important role in society than most. Aside from the eyes, virtually nothing is ever seen.

Kheyzat Miir have sharply angular facial features that, while vaguely humanoid, are quite alien from a human standpoint. Tight, drawn ‘lips’ cover decidedly carniverous teeth, with three sets of proper fangs spaced throughout. The ‘nose’ consists of slitted nostrils at the midpoint of the face, a series of fleshy membranes allowing the nostrils to flare or contract as necessary. Other species might mistake such flarings as a sign of emotion, though they are entirely utilitarian in purpose – the nostrils are contracted to prevent foreign material from being inhaled, and expanded during anaerobic activity. A Kheyzat Miir’s eyes are at once both the most and least humanoid of their facial features. Narrow and slitted (a defense mechanism against the frequent, devastating sandstorms of Nasidh Miir), the eyes have no visible white, being dominated instead by the iris, which appears exclusively in varying shades of gold, and the pupils. Visually, the pupils may be mistaken for a single cross-shaped pupil, this effect is created by the structure of the Kheyzat Miir eye – a horizontally slitted pupil lies behind a vertically slitted pupil in a multi-layered ocular structure, and both can dilate and contract independent the other.

Kheyzat Miir do not have facial or body hair.

Psychological Characteristics

Personality
The Kheyzat Miir are a deeply religious people, and it shows readily in their interaction. The eight standing members of the Council of Eight are viewed as Gods, and on those rare occasions that the Council of Eight makes a public statement, it is completely unheard of for a member of mainstream Kheyzat Miir society to ignore it. Generally, the religious bent of society is most shown in the sense of community. Although different clans are often at odds with eachother, Kheyzat Miir look out for eachother. A wounded opponent is taken in and cared for just as readily as a lost child. In spite of, or perhaps because of, the hardship inherent in life on Nasidh Miir, the Kheyzat Miir are extremely generous with eachother, rarely complain, and believe firmly in the value of hard work. Despite the clearly theocratic nature of the government, the society is itself a meritocracy. One is actively discouraged from spending time in fields which one doesn’t excel at – when the world is every bit as much a threat to your survival as your most bitter enemy, there is little time to spare on pointless ventures.

Despite the communal and very giving nature of the Kheyzat Miir, they are not a forgiving people. Grudges and blood-feuds are the most common sources of violence, and they are openly advocated by the Council of Eight – retribution against those who wrong you is espoused as among the greatest of all virtues, along with charity and generosity, respect, and hard work. The Council of Eight has been known to step in when a blood-feud goes to far, or threatens the productivity of a clan. Usually, however, such fights are limited to no more than four or five individuals, and they come to a quick and conclusive end.

Likes
This is variable by personality. Water, the most precious commodity in Kheyzat Miir society, is usually high on the list.
Dislikes
Again, this is variable by personality and clan history. Kheyzat Miir usually have a strong distrust, if not necessarily dislike, of new technology.
Goals
Kheyzat Miir may have any number of goals, but the typical lifework of a Kheyzat Miir is simply to contribute to the community and earn a place in the historical records kept by the Council of Eight (this is not quite akin to the human idea of ‘making history’ – all Kheyzat Miir who do well at their work and conduct themselves with honor and integrity are noted in the records).

History

A Kheyzat Miir’s background almost always comes from a tradesman upbringing. Early in life, prominent talents are identified, and from this, the individual is assigned to specific education. Those with exceptional physical abilities (strength, stamina, dexterity) and quick mental faculties are almost always assigned to a warrior life. Those who excel in their particular field may be noticed by clan leadership, and put into positions of greater importance, or the truly talented may even be scooped up to serve under the Council of Eight directly. This is considered the greatest honor any Kheyzat Miir can achieve. Any given individual is likely to have lived through at least one major feud between clans. Those raised as warriors are likely to have seen a large quantity of combat – against other clans, against the large predators of Nasidh Miir, and in the last several years against the small but growing and seemingly inextinguishable rebellion against the Council of Eight.

Conversely, a member of said rebellion is likely a talented individual whose achievements were snubbed, or the survivor of a blood feud who remains bitter over the ending.

Updated!

Any thoughts at all? I will most likely attempt to submit this as a new race at some point; I figure starting with a CCG page is as good a point as any.

I'd rather see some commentary before I start seriously detailing them, though. (Also, I need to worry about a second GM, since I'm fairly sure Ari doesn't count, but I'm not even going there yet.)
