DEFCON Everybody Dies
Slum would probably be an overstatement for the state of this particular stretch of urban decay, the various scents of humanity mingling in a pungent odor that hung in the humid wet air. Everything was still moist after a brief downpour less then an hour ago, it made the Nepleslian standing in front of a particular door with a small glowing bulb above it annoyed. A small ember danced off the edge of his lips as he took another long drag off of the coffin nail as his eyes glanced off into the shadows, always watching for something out of place.. something that didn't belong.
There weren't many left in Tokyo after all the turmoil and war that Jiyuu had been through. The few that remained were but shadows of the soldiers and colonists they'd once been, surviving only for the promise of another day's sustenance. Outlaws called it home now, too, finding comfort in the once-glorious mega city that nobody remembered and its dregs nobody wanted to save.
High above the Nepleslian, a warrior stepped along the shattered edge what had once been an apartment block, its entire east facing obliterated by some Star Army or NMX super weapon. Her clothing made little contrast with the twisted city scape save for a strip of soiled crimson hanging bright under her dark grey cloak. Her presence did little to disturb the world around her, and she moved through the wrecked building as if she were another one of its desecrated, dead fixtures.
There was a third player in this story, a lone figure.. wrapped in the strange shimmering form of a thermoptic cloak. His slow, step by step pace allowing illusion to maintain it's appearance as he approached the sentry. A light clack getting his attention as the now doomed door guard turned toward the strange patch of air, squinting his eyes. The man watched somewhat stunned as the air itself seemed to move... then a flash... a dull thud that lightly echoed off the walls but quickly faded. The sound of a shell casing bouncing off the ground as a wet thud followed. Slowly.. the figure stepped into the light, the almost reaper like figure partially visible partially hidden as two more muffled shots obliterated the small pad lock that barred his entrance.
