I propose we eliminate HS, KS, and DA in favor of UC, Universal Credit. Basically, we have these various forms of currency but their variation serves no purpose and only confuses new players. Let's standardize things.

A UC would be equal to 1 KS/HS so prices wouldn't need to be changed much. UC would be mostly electronic but it might be fun to come up with paper versions, too, maybe with SARP historical stuff/people on the bills.

Kind of how the dollar is the international currency in a way now (despite its flagging capability)? I can understand that. Instead of using an existing national currency, create a new one and set the exchange rate for it.

That feels like an extra step, and not just a little meaningless ... but I can see how it might help the civilian RP aspects some.

Still, Derran and Chris are right. There's no real capitalism in SARP because we're not focusing on corporations to make profits or anything. We use them to make new things for our setting. I'd really only back it up for the possible RP it could create on a corporate level โ€” how are corporations are now isn't broken, so retconning wouldn't fix anything. But making it an RP opportunity would be worthwhile, I think.

Having a Universal Credit means we also get to have a universal price list and put a single price next to all listed items. As pointed out by one of the new people, we could really use that.

What stops us from just making one that mixes DA, KS and other currencies? They all exchange, right?

It makes no sense to exchange things and confuse new people with a mixed list. Right now, exchange rates are all but meaningless, and having them vary from time to time would make things even worse. A standard currency for the whole RP is the only sensible way to proceed.

A universal standard for currency would be great, but i can only see it working in one of two ways, regardless of method of implementation:

1) Empires co-operating on diplomatic/economic levels to institute the change...

2) An independant organisation enforces usage of the currency upon the Empires. This would require significant economic or military force...

This is one of those cases where you have to choose between OOC ease of use or IC realism, unless you retcon, which is also a bad idea for other reasons...

I don't think this is a really good idea ICly since the environment for it does not exist. I don't see what the big deal is- really, to change the initials used. The various nations are trying to build their national economies and their currency, if you unify their currency so it's all the same monetarily- what's the point in trying to improve when everything is the same? I think it's a better story when there is a goal and a purpose for growth.

We're all adults here, if we all wanted to play the same game there would still only be one faction. It's part of the learning curve for all new players.
At this moment, I don't like the idea of universal currency in either venue real or fiction.

I do not recommend this submission for approval- there is nothing ICly to back this and if this does happen, there should be some sort of actually roleplay involved.
