Winter-Night Lights Pavilion

After a hiatus following mobilization for the war the year before, the Winter-Nights celebration was holding the opening night, to run through the rest of the holiday season, through New Year's Day. The skyscrapers surrounding the immense park were all decorated with volumetrics. There were some that simply used their shape to beam light along blacked out windows. The building housing the local Shimizu Zaibatsu office on the upper floors sat at one end of the park, behind the stage setup for entertainment and announcements. That building in particular featured lights dancing up and down the outside of the building, which did not stop the company from setting up two separate lounges on the top two floors, with a balcony and courtyard featuring prominently as half of the top floor. They even decorated the landing pad facing away from the party, where a company shuttle with a security and medical team waited, just in case the crews at the first aid tent in the celebration proper needed backup, or a fast evac to the nearest hospital.

There were some changes from the first Solstice celebration. The most obvious were the expansion of the feasting hall to accommodate a bigger kitchen, an indoor stage, volumetric projectors, and more space for the number of guests expected. The snow was a bit easier to manage that year compared to the absolute blizzard in YE 44. The standards on the hall included banners from the three houses: Ketsurui, Motoyoshi, and Shimizu. The latter two cooperated on the event, with Shimizu taking the lead. This was not reflected in the decoration, as each were represented equally. The main stage that year had been set up with a shell about the back half, both to protect the VIPs up there with the built-in defenses that the company hid, but also to keep them out of sitting still in the wind without a way to heat them up. Folding heated chairs, what will they think of next?

Imperial family members, and other notable families were invited in advance, with specific space left for representatives of the government. It was an open invitation to celebrate with the rest of the planet, if they were not too busy. Flag officers and notable COs were also invited to sit there, even if it meant that they might see the backside of an act or two (with a performance from Miyako, for example).

Priority places for the chairs in front of the stage on the ground was given to uniformed or costumed members of the Star Army, and their families. There were already a good amount of ship-specific booths set up around the that year, including some spares in case a crew willing to stay at the booth showed up for the party. The servers inside wore or projected their preferred costume, typically winter animals, sweaters, skirts and thick leggings, all to different levels of festive. There were reminders of the common heritage Yamataians represented inside, leaning heavily into the older Norse-like decoration, as all the permanent buildings of the celebration were. The temporary stalls and buildings were decorated or projected with their decorations however they had deemed fit.

The skating rink made a return that year, only shifted away from the expanded feasting hall a bit more. To ease congestion the ice sculpting competition was being held in the western part of the park. The massive bash was set to begin with the lighting of the Norse spruce near the hall, so having the competition there would have caused problems again. The tree had only grown in the past two years, it was a particularly fast-growing conifer. The workers from the Tokyo Brewing Company and the guests inside had a good view of the tree, and all window spots were going fast! With the holiday spirits in so much demand the time before, more had been shipped in to handle just how much drunk fun revelers were going to get into.

A new addition to the sky lounge was a family-friendly lounge facing the rest of the city lights away from the celebration. Facing the celebration, with the balcony was the Ice Palace. The reason it was called that had not been revealed yet, lost in the mix. Only staff knew the plans. The lounge catered specifically to adults, with open bars, private places, pits, alcoves at windows, and various other party items they might require to unwind and blow off steam. Just in case they needed to get away from the incredible crowds down below, or celebrate in a less raucous way without freezing their buns off.

Shimizu-Motoyoshi Akina sat in the second row of chairs on the stage, watching as the countdown to the opening brought the throngs of people out to celebrate and socialize. She had decided to give her daughter a chance to be the master of ceremonies this year, and she had come with the crew that could be spared leave from the YSS Teisenjou.

Miu, a serving cabinet member, was dressed in something as garish and loud as the year she had flown the gift fleet to the Empress. It surprised no one. Shimizu-Motoyoshi Miu checked with the stage manager while wearing what could only be described as a fluffy bunny outfit. As if she had something against pants in the cold, she wore a fur-lined skirt in white with a gold, sparkly trim around the hem. Her top was something akin to a corset, with a shirt that only came up below her shoulders on the sides. What she was actually dressed as was a bunny with reindeer horns. Horns? For whatever reason. They had lights and garland decorated in them, to keep them relatively light. The platform heels she wore had only a slight incline, more to make her appear taller and draw attention to the fact lights flashed from the sides in a subtle dance each time she took a step. A cute choker made of faux fur and a bell jingled as she waved to some of the people seated up on the stage with her. The manager lifted her brow silently when she saw the mistletoe on the end of the Princess' fluffy blue tail.

Music rang out around the entire park, and screens projected for visitors watching from places or buildings they could not see the stage from, including up above. Miu walked out as soon as the lights went down, and when applause (muffled often by mittens and gloves) rang out, the lights were brought back up and she bowed from the center of the stage as drones began to hover at a decent distance from her to record different angles.

"Hello Yamatai! I am Shimizu-Motoyoshi Miu, and I am dressed as this year's mascot! If you want to submit one for next year, visit the Shimizu recruitment tent! I'm so happy to see we have more people out than last time, and the weather is behaving for now, but stay bundled up anyway!" She swayed slightly, and continued to speak to the crowd with a smooth warmth that felt as if she were trying to speak to each person specifically.

"It has been a hard couple years for everyone, and we are happy to welcome our off-world guests from around the sector! Thank you so much for coming to celebrate with us, if you observe Yul as we do here, how they do it in Nepleslia, or not at all, I am so glad you have come, all the same. Tonight, as a bonus for showing up, anyone who signs up is eligible to win a brand-new Misha-Class Explorer, courtesy of the Yugumo Corporation. Thanks for that! Moorage and maintenance are covered for ten years, and it can be crewed or used solo. Visit the Yugumo tent to look at specs, and other fun things they've been up to since the last time. You can also enjoy their simulations courtesy of the highest speed KiNet Some are pretty exciting, and some are silly. Which will you get?"

Miu paused and waited for the applause to die down again, and held her hand out, "So, who is ready to get things hopping?" She asked, turning in profile to the crowd so she could make sure they saw her tail twitch after she hopped a few times. One hand stretched up towards the heavens and she looked over her shoulder to the buildings, "Oh, I almost forgot. So many of you are here, I think we have the magic to do...this!" Fun gold and blue sparkles shot from her hands, and swept into a zephyr of visible wind carrying stylized snowflakes. When they hit the building looming over the stage, the volumetric projectors really turned on, and it looked like the entire structure from the bottom up was turning into a building made from ice one might expect to see in a fantasy simulation. The nearby towers started after, so that the central building glittered from the top, a red and green light blinked, sparkled, and turned gold before shooting from the highest of the spires all the way down to the top of the prodigious tree near the great hall.

As the light touched the top, a star lit, followed by all of the colorful lights strewn over the branches. They caught fluffy tinsel and ornaments the size of melons depicting various worlds, sourced from their schools, as well as the same from ships that won a contest to have theirs represented on the tree, from the fleet. Moving away from the tree and the feasting hall, smaller trees lit up. Each was represented of one of Yamatai's settled worlds. Their designs varied wildly based on what they had chosen to represent their systems, and the Norians were of course, invited to make one as well.

The crowd reacted with excited clamor, cries out in more than a few languages for joy, and the clapping reached the peak while music began to play. It was brassy and bright, and it made Miu sway a little bit while she waited for the energy of the crowds to dissipate. Once there was just enough quiet to be heard, she bowed again, "Thank you for coming! Drink your fill, eat your feast, and make some new friends! Happy Winter-Nights, everyone!"

The Solstice party began in earnest, as the 'magic' settled upon the entire little town set up for the event, making it feel and look like some kind of snowy, enchanted forest.

Motoyoshi-Shimizu Itazura

Motoyoshi-Shimizu Itazura danced through the throngs of participants that gathered. The skirt of her emerald green little solstice dress flounced about accompanied by a bell jingling with each movement. As if she was not feeling sassy enough her outfit only contributed to things, the shiny gold bell on her green collar drew attention to the daring neckline of her top. "Mom!" Itazura communicated wirelessly to Akina and waved a bit as she hopped with excitement. A light tapping sound could barely be heard as she quickly shuffled up the stairs in her matching green boots, a green bow tied some of her hair up out of her face.

Miu's outfit caught her attention, it made her giggle at the adorable quality of the entire ensemble. Itazura winked towards her sibling, not knowing if Miu had seen her or not. Then she walked towards the second row with a bounce in her step and a mischievous look in her eyes. She plopped her rump down in a seat next to Akina which made her bell jingle again. Softly she leaned her head onto her mother's shoulder briefly before sitting up straight with a little wiggle. When Miu asked who was ready to get things hopping, Itazura came up with a evil little idea that she'd do when her sister's speech finished.

The magical display of sparkles made her hop in her seat, "Oh!" she shouted in surprise. Magical visuals only continued to unfurl from there as the entire structure looming over the stage turned into what appeared to be a building made of ice. It didn't stop there as the more displays lit up across her field of view, she snuggled up to her mom once more resting her head on Akina's shoulder as the trees lit up. Once the lighting displays completed she sat up straight and clapped as her sister gave a final bit of her speech. "Happy Winter-Nights Mom" Itazura said mischievously as she briefly sat innocently on Akina's lap giving her mother a little kiss on the cheek. "What are we going to do next hmm?" she inquired. If Akina had other plans, Itazura intended to disappear into the crowds to meet some new friends. Maybe a cute norian male or anyone else that caught her eye.

Winter-Night Lights Pavilion

Akatski smiled as she finally arrived at the Winter-Night Lights Pavilion during the Year-End Festival in Downtown Kyoto, on Planet Yamatai. The city was alive with the dazzling brilliance of multicolored lights reflecting off a fresh blanket of snow. She had wisely bundled herself in a thick coat, scarf, and gloves to stave off the biting chill of the evening air. Her breath puffed visibly in the cold as she stepped forward, her boots crunching rhythmically on the snow beneath her. Her heart raced in excitement—now, all she needed to do was locate her family.

The stage ahead drew her attention immediately. There, in the center of the festivities, her eldest sister, Miu, stood in the spotlight. Akatski’s steps slowed as her eyes fixed on her sister, taking in her dazzling outfit. Miu was dressed in what could only be described as an enchanting bunny-reindeer hybrid costume. The fur-lined white skirt, trimmed with sparkling gold, shimmered softly under the stage lights. Her top was an elegant corset paired with a chic, off-shoulder shirt that bared just enough skin to hint at playful sophistication.

But the centerpiece of Miu's ensemble was the pair of antlers perched atop her head, adorned with twinkling lights and delicate garlands. They wobbled slightly when she moved, enhancing the illusion of lively charm. Her platform heels flashed with subtle lights at every step, making her appear taller and more commanding. Around her neck, a faux-fur choker with a small jingling bell added a touch of festive whimsy. Akatski couldn’t help but notice the mistletoe attached to the fluffy blue tail swaying behind her sister—a mischievous addition that Miu seemed to wear with pride.

Akatski couldn’t help but grin as she listened, her eyes sparkling with admiration. Miu had an undeniable charisma, and the way she spoke made it feel as though she was connecting with each person in the crowd individually.

Akatski giggled quietly at her sister’s antics, but her amusement turned into awe as Miu performed a grand flourish. Gold and blue sparkles shot from her hands, swirling into a magical wind that danced with stylized snowflakes. The sparkles collided with the buildings surrounding the stage, activating volumetric projectors that transformed the structures into shimmering towers of ice, like something out of a winter fairy tale.

The central building glittered brightly, its highest spire shooting a streak of gold light down towards the massive tree near the great hall. The star atop the tree lit up, followed by colorful lights illuminating the branches, catching the tinsel and oversized ornaments that represented various worlds in the sector. Smaller trees, each representing one of Yamatai’s settled worlds, lit up in turn, each adorned uniquely to reflect its system’s culture.

Akatski’s breath caught as she took in the breathtaking display. Her awe was momentarily broken when she spotted her mother, Akina, sitting down with another of her sisters, Itazura on her lap. A mischievous grin spread across Akatski’s face. Quietly, she crouched down, her gloved hands scooping up two handfuls of snow. In moments, she had formed two perfectly round snowballs. With the precision her Nekovalkyrja heritage afforded her, Akatski lobbed the snowballs toward her unsuspecting targets. but by then Akatski was standing innocently upright, her hands clasped behind her back as though nothing had happened. Her body shook with silent laughter, her mischievous delight barely contained as she watched for her mother and sister’s reaction.

Rikugun Base Ukmirt, Ukmirt A-2
75th Legion HQ

The last year for Mikael had been busy with his academic and leadership coursework at the Rikugun University. When he was assigned as the commander of the 1st Ryodan of the 75th Legion, now with the 1st Expeditionary Area Army, he thought he would have at least some time for leave. But that was not to be when he was handing the training schedule by his executive officer immediately after the Change of Command Ceremony at Rikugun Base Ukmirt. At the current rate of things, it looked like he was never going to escape the steamy planet or those annoying Ukmirt Ganders seeming to mock him every time one of them got in his way during a run.

Fort Victory: Basic Expeditionary Training (1 month)
Fort Ready: Advanced Expeditionary Training (2 months)
Fort Tokyo: Joint Exercises (2 months)

Transporting and coordinating the 1st Ryodan to move to Fort Victory for its month long basic expeditionary training was a lot more painful than he expected. The deployment of the current Ryodan of the 239th and 249th Legions on deployment status in the 46th and 48th Legion Command Groups had taken a lot more resources available to the Rikugun with their fleet elements being incomplete. Unable to travel together with their equipment, the vast majority of the Ryodan used PAINT to travel to Kyoto, leaving a 4 day gap between when all the personnel will arrive and when their equipment will be completely on-station. So Mikael authorized a 4 day extension to the 3 day liberty restricted to Kyoto was already going to authorize and luckily occured at the same time as the Winter-Night Solstice celebration.

Mikael, dressed in full dress uniform, sat down at the area reserved for uniform SAoY servicemembers along with the rest of his command team minus Joto Heisho Tetsuya Yuka acting as his unofficial Senior Enlisted Advisor. She was busy managing the enlisted staff managing one of the spare booths reserved for crews to represent their ships. While they certainly were not a ship, it seemed like an excellent opportunity to represent the 75th Legion, the 1st Expeditionary Area Army, and Star Army Rikugun as a whole.

He watched as the show and light display progressed the trees for the Fujiko Region caught his attention. The Fujiko tree was a striking construction of reinforced metallic branches arranged to resemble industrial scaffolding, no doubt a reference to the industrial nature of the tundra world. Rufusland was an imposing sculpture of jagged volcanic rock, its angular branches mimicking the rugged formations of the planet’s submerged volcanic islands. He wasn't the least bit surprised about Ukmirt's tree was dominated by wide, leaf-covered branches that celebrate its abundant flora. Though there was a lack of Koerlandese motifs like the ten symbols of longevity commonly seen in art and traditional clothing.

When it was over, the massive man rose from his seat and looked around.

Katsuko

Katsuko stood near the stage a cup of hot chocolate in her hands. Yamatai was an expected destination, but as always her life was full of surprises. For the year-end festival, she wore a sleek, long-sleeve kimono jacket in deep midnight blue, subtly patterned with silver icicles that shimmered under the festival lights. Beneath this, she had on a high-collared, silky blouse in rich violet, paired with fitted black trousers that tucked into knee high boots with delicate embroidery reminiscent of frost patterns. Her blue hair had been pulled up into an elegant, high ponytail, secured with a silver band that complemented the icy theme.

She finished her drink and set it down on the table designated for festival staff to place items they didn't want to carry around. Ascending the stage steps, Katsuko "put on her happy face" and took a seat next to Akina, Miu, and Itazura. "You look lovely tonight, girls," she complimented their daughters as music filled the air and revelers shouted with joy. Katsuko was ready to welcome the end of the year, which had been the second consecutive one she preferred to forget. She cherished the moments with Akina and the girls, yet she couldn't help but wonder about the whereabouts of the rest of her clan. Taro had declined the invitation, choosing to visit Jiyuu, true to his word as always. Reaching out with her left hand, she grasped Akina's hand, intertwining their fingers. ("You did a lovely job planning all of this, love. I hope we don't have to sit up here all night; I want to explore,") she whispered. Katsuko didn't want to spend the entire evening on stage, under the constant gaze of the crowd.

Since the Battle of Becurn, she and Akina didn't have much time together. With multiple building projects with the fleet she had been consumed. It was nice to finally have some down time to enjoy and hopefully change that deficit of time. The snowballs that Akatski threw went whizzing past. The first two missed, the third got her right on the right shoulder. The game was on, but Katsuko was a patient schemer and already had a 'snow' plan for her daughter and she laughed and brushed the snow off.

Kaoru and Sorin

As usual, Kaoru outside of the Star Army, went completely popstar, she wore a shimmering, sky-blue metallic bodysuit, accented with frosted pink sequins and featuring a daring V-neckline to showcase her 'assets'. This is paired with a glossy black military-inspired cropped jacket, adding a touch of authoritative chic. Her hair was styled in loose, cascading waves with frosted pink tips that complement the sequins of her outfit - starkly different from her usual duty appearance. Her look further enhanced with thigh-high glossy pink boots with a glossy sheen and minimal jewelry, including a star pendant choker and matching earrings that Sorin had bought her. She had already had three shows since her leave started, two in Tokyo and one in Kyoto.

Her and her fiancée Sorin walked arm-in arm along the path toward the stage, he was wearing a tailored black velvet blazer with subtle, dark blue pattern along the lapels that caught the light with a subtle shimmer. Underneath, and obviously chosen by Kaoru he wore a midnight blue silk shirt complemented his blue eyes, and was tucked into tailored black trousers and polished black dress-style winter boots. A very non-Norian look for him, which he didn't seem to mind.

Kaoru stopped and looked at the stage, "Why don't we go inside and have a beer?" she said as she tugged him towards where the Tokyo Brewing Company had setup. Sorin let out a bit of a laugh as she tugged him along, he said, "Ah I see, you still aren't talking to your mom. Lets get the beer, but eventually you two are going to need to bury that hatchet." He didn't go on, just by the look she gave him he knew it was time for him to shut up. Last thing they needed was a rumor in the tabloids about a nekovalkyrja popstar slugging her norian fiancée in the face. Kaoru knew he was right, but she didn't need to admit it. She had already planned the encounter - ignoring everything they had disagreed on and talking about the most mundane topics she could think of.

Cheol

Senator Cheol Eitan, representing Tsenlan in the Yamatai Imperial Senate and newly appointed Taisho of the Star Army's Transuniversal Operations, presented himself with an air of refined professionalism at the festival. He wore a deep navy blue, military-style jacket, finely tailored to enhance his stature and adorned with intricate silver embroidery that symbolized his affiliations with both Ysi and Tsenlan. This was paired with a white dress shirt and a dark gray silk tie, adding a touch of classic elegance. His trousers, in matching navy, were precisely cut, and his outfit was completed with highly polished black leather boots.

Following his interview with Hanako, Cheol had been on Ronica at the Mayame Officer School, undergoing courses to facilitate his transition from the MERN to the Star Army. This educational endeavor was part of his broader integration into Yamataian society, a process that proved smoother for him than for many other Norians. Having been adopted into the Eitan Ysi, Cheol navigated his new cultural situation with relative ease, though he had not been fully immersed in the Ysi's business or inner circles while growing up.

Cheol seem Mikael standing in full uniform, and he went down and stood beside him and asked "Enjoying the festival?"

Aelya, Vasati, & Vulre

After a whirlwind year of tumultuous stress filled chaos, one of Aelya's favorite events kicked off. Though given the amount of stress and sorrow she had been under, she'd originally had no intentions of going. To her going would be a luxury, one she did not have. However, Chanyeol was having none of that nonsense. He had planned in advance for this particular shenanigan. Chanyeol had ordered a knee-length solstice party dress, with long sleeves and a deep v-neck in colors he knew she would love, dark purple and black. Hells he had even roped Vasati in on it, he had Vasati pick out the boots that went with it. Of her own accord, she got Aelya a matching black peacoat that was fashionable, yet would not cause heat issues.

Vulre had also been let in on the mischiefas well, getting Aelya from Lo'ken to the Pavilion under the guise of a meeting at the palace. Vasati had even verified this made up story when Aelya got suspicious and started asking questions. When Aelya got in her private transport she knew something was up. Vasati met her, practically shoved the bags into her arms and said, "Just do it, its for your own good." Vulre then turned Aelya around and said, "Don't worry you'll be safe. There's nothing suspicious going on, just trust me." Aelya raised an eyebrow this was not her usual transport either, it was a shuttle, the kind you took when going to say, Planet Yamatai. "Uh-huh," she whispered quietly to herself as she climbed into the private transport.

Aelya & Chanyeol

The two cohorts in Chanyeol's plan went with Aelya to make sure she did not try to weasel out of it. They knew she needed this one night to have some semblance of normalcy. Aelya side eyed them the entire time she changed as the shuttle took them from Tsenlan to Kyoto. When the shuttle landed Chanyeol awaited her outside of the shuttle's docking area. Aelya's eyes widened when she saw him standing there in a crisp black suit jacket and trousers that matched the black in her dress. The dress shirt was a dark purple with a black silk tie, the purple in his dress shirt also happened to match her dress. To finish things off, he wore polished black boots.

Aelya's eyes lit up with genuine excitement for the first time in several months. Chanyeol walked over to meet her, offering her his arm. She side eyed him with a little smirk as she looped her arm through his. Their walk to the pavilion flew by, Aelya slowly relaxing with each step in the cool night air.

Chanyeol intertwined his fingers with Aelya's, leading her to a good viewpoint for the kick-off speech. It was just behind the priority places reserved for the Star Army members, but on the opposite side from where Cheol and Mikael were. Aelya was happy, yet reserved as she watched Miu's speech that kicked off the festivities. When it was over the light show caught her by surprise and made her hop. "Oh! Oh its beautiful." she whispered as the Norians' tree lit in a elegant display of Tsenlan's colors.

Once the display wrapped up, Chanyeol leaned to whisper in her ear "I'm glad you came." Aelya threw him a loving look that conveyed her gratitude and appreciation. "I don't know how you put up with me," she responded. "Oh its a delicate balance of nailing down which personality you're in for the," he paused as she whacked him on the arm and he chuckled. "Ai jyhli o ( I love you), that's why. Now, lets go get something to drink and enjoy the festivities." "Ai jyhli o sai ( I love you to), smart ass," she said shaking her head as a genuine smile graced her lips. "I am glad you feel the same way," Chanyeol threw her a loving yet teasing look then walked arm in arm with her to get a drink.

Mikael looked over towards Cheol when he heard the question. The Mutari Nepleslian quickly recognized who he was talking to and how out of depth he was. But such comes with the mantle of leadership he readily accepted when Taisho Mizumitsu threw it at him with a high rate of speed due to Empress Himiko's gift for him. Mikael already had a stiff posture in order to maintain a professional bearing while wearing his uniform, but there was a noticeable increase in stiffness of his augmented body.

"Yes I am, Senator. It is a rare opportunity to celebrate the end of the year with new and interesting individuals." Mikael said diplomatically. While he wasn't the one to brown nose, he also didn't want to potentially ruin his good name by doing or saying something stupid.

Cheol

Cheol smiled at what Mikael said, and then said, "It is amazing when you look at this around us, to consider the fact we're at war with the Mishhuvurthyar. Yamatai is always so peaceful, almost like a paradise. We have the Star Army with soldiers like you to thank for it." he added. Due to the fact his particular branch of the Star Army 'didn't exist', he didn't expect Mikael to know his rank or anything else, he expected at some point Yui or Hanako would provide him with a cover story - for now he was content to just carry himself as a politician and citizen for the holidays.

"Yamatai has some interesting people for sure, these events seem to attract those from all over," he commented, his warm breath leaving an icy vapor in the air. While the weather may of been cold for some, for him this was more the type of weather he would hope for in a vacation destination. Most of the other Norians didn't even wear jackets to the festival. "Where are you stationed?" he asked out of curiosity.

He spotted Aeyla and her entourage headed in for a drink. Chanyeol appeared to have things "under control" so he didn't leave Mikael to catch up with the group. He merely vespered her, //"Tia Aest, it is good you could make it. I will find you later. I hope you are enjoying the festival." He could not help but wonder how Chanyeol had lured her away from her never ending work to attend. Many of their people were at the festival, the remainder celebrated on Tsenlan or wherever else they celebrated.

Yoshiro had just arrived at the year end celebration after his mission. It had been hard to see and help the refugees but he weathered that storm well. He was a soldier after all and he hoped that the refugees were doing well. He was with his brother, sister and mother for ice skating rink and to be honest, he felt good about what he had done for the refugees but he felt like he could do more, like he could fight whoever hurt the innocent civilians who couldn't even fight back.

Yoshiro bit back those feelings that ate at him and he ice skated with his brother and sister. After a few laps around the rink, his mother brought them hot chocolate. "How's that hot chocolate?" His mother asked. Yoshiro and his siblings answered with a coordinated thumbs up and continued sipping their drinks. After leaving his brother and sister with his mother, he went to explore the festival.

Yoshiro was walking around the festival eating some yakisoba and watching people as he wandered the festival. He was thinking about how the child he took care of was doing though. He was happy with being a caretaker as well as being a good soldier. He was reminded of being a good example to his brother and sister. He wanted to show other kids that they could inspire others without having to join the military when they were older. He was going to get a burger and once he did he sat down with the burger to rest as he ate.

Zaven and Sakuka stepped forth to the rather amazingly set up city of Kyoto with their little baby. They wished to finally get back to doing what they liked before they were both were on the same ship and found each other and things moved and they were quite a sight when they were out and around. Now though it was more to just parents as their child grew or was rendered unfortunately without one or both of his parents at times. Zaven was a good pilot and always helped where he needed to because that was how he was raised and wanted to ensure he was doing his best,

Sakuka was absolutely gorgeous and Zaven let off a bit with his old style that he had because of how he went through a rather hard time in his life, and how he moved forward to help those that needed him. "How about we make a move to grab a bite before we go see those that have costumes what do you say?" He asked her with a smile on his face, remembering how they had first met after a mission where they both just gave time to each other until they just gave into their own time. After he had helped with missions that were about how the ship and those that were close to him were attacked. Missions that Zaven was given and had to leave for a while, facing situations where he had mistakes and also gave into anger once or twice...

All in all he was now just...different as Sakuka brought forth a rather fantastic child and Zaven had missed the birth due to where he was at the time. Not even a video could be viewed until he was back into the room he stayed while on the ship. They shared him now and it was excellent as the lights caused the child to look and be quiet, then the music caused him to slightly dance as he was kept warm with Sakuka carrying him. It was a great moment and he did not know who all that they would see.

Mikael's face darkened for a moment when the mention of the Mishhu entered the conversation. Being a native of the sector, he never really though much about how peaceful Yamatai was in the present due to him remembering how turbulent the sector and even Yamatai was during the 2nd Mishhuvurthyvar War. His mind wandered for a moment as he relived the mission to Sbuhfaba when he was just a young infantryman on the YSS Eucharis. While he can't relieve the "smell" of the battle due to his first death, the last bits of data he transmitted before the shuttle was destroyed remain with him. As much as he wanted to blurt out his opinion on the Misshu right away, he would have to wait.

"That they do. With the majority species of the empire being what it is, it is hard to forget sometimes that there citizens and residents of other species within the greater empire." Mikael said, looking at the various individuals. He looked over towards Katsuko and nodded his head respectfully in the off chance she noticed him looking her way. He noted the Norians' attire and remembered the brief introduction on how to accommodate other species in your command. "The Norians being the most recent, but certainly will not be the last. I was there when the first refugees had arrived." he said before pausing. The Norian Arrival Humanitarian Assistance Medal on his chest being the proof of his words.

"To answer your question Senator, Rikugun Base Ukmirt. I am the commanding officer of the 75th Legion's 1st Ryodan, 1st Expeditionary Area Army." Mikael said before continuing. "Until we finally wipe the Mishhuvurthyar and their influence from existence, the war will truly never be over. We may have driven them from this sector, but we've only succeeded in displacing the threat, forcing it into someone else's backyard. That dustball Osman should have held no interest to them and yet they invaded it. And the fact that those fools on Fujiko and others were the ones to attempt to correct. I hear the Reds' fleet element abandoned their ground component because they were outmatched in actual combat effectiveness. But despite getting their asses handed to them, they made the effort and that cuts deep." Mikael said, his professional veneer cracking momentarily under the strain of his convictions.

Motoyoshi-Shimizu Itazura

An ice cold snowball hit her skin like a thousand shards of ice pinging against her chest. The shock caused Itazura to hop, winding up with her half on Katsuko's lap and half on Akina's lap. Simultaneously yelping as the broken snowball and its melting remnants ran down into her dress. For a moment she wondered who did it, then she spotted her sister Akatski. Itazura's jaw drop as brewing mischief lit her eyes. Once she figured out who had got her, she settled down a bit. That's when she realized her rump was in Katsuko's lap and her legs in Akina's lap. "Oh hi mom!" she exclaimed happily giving Katsuko a kiss on the cheek before bouncing off. "You two have fun," she said playfully with a little wink before zipping off to a nearby snow pile.

Swiftly she balled up some snow then grabbed Akatski's attention. "Hey sis!" she shouted before gently tossing the snowball at Akatski. "Hehehehehe," Itazura giggled before dashing out into the crowds running past Cheol and Mikael to avoid further snow ball onslaught. She sat down somewhere near a burger joint next to where a man was eating a burger, wondering if Akatski was going to find her. Little did she know, that the man at the other table was Yoshiro.

Aelya & Chanyeol

When Aelya received Cheol's vesper her hearts felt like they might skip a beat with excitement. "It is good you could make it as well Senator. I look forward to seeing you later. As for enjoyment, I certainly hope one of us is enjoying the festival" she responded through vesper gripping Chanyeol's arm just a little tighter as she tried to hide her growing joy with them both being present.

Chanyeol led her to a nearby vendor that appeared to serve a variety of beverages. Feeling a bit nostalgic he ordered a frozen cocoa for them both, the very same that he had done their last outing at a holiday event. Aelya stepped closer to Chanyeol, wrapping her arms around him in a tight hug. "Thank you," she whispered, her words muffled somewhat as she rested her head on his chest while they waited. "For you? Anything," he said in a playful loving tone wrapping his arms around Aelya and kissing the top of her head.

A group of soldiers were exploring the venues together, laughing and thoroughly enjoying themselves. They all had on different color uniforms, showing that they all were of different occupations. But all five woman wore the same unit patch marking them as the Angels of Death. They were all heading for the ice-skating rink. Raijin and Tsuki already had their own skates but the others could rent a pair. They were planning to meet some of their other squad mates here. "You think they'll get her to come?" Asked Amane, a short blue haired neko and the only officer among them. "If anyone could convince her it would be Haruka and Michiru. They've know her the longest." Responded Aimi. She wore the black uniform of a SAINT operative which contrasted with her flowing golden hair. "It'll be good for her. She needs to get out and enjoy the celebration. It'll also be a way to show her we're all behind her." Tsuki said as her large white Elysium wings fluttered. Reika brushed her long, raven black hair out of her face and pointed. "There they are."

Coming towards them were three tall woman. One had blonde hair cut super short with a red uniform. The second had long wavy teal hair that matched her green uniform. The third wore a white uniform with three red chevrons on her sleeve. She was holding a staff with green wreath wrapped around it and two small bells at the top. Everyone knew that it wasn't an actual staff but volumetrics that hid Kuronosu, Setsunu's spear.

"So, did you have to drag her kicking and screaming?" Tsuki asked, making the other girls laugh. But the laughter fizzled out as Haruka and Michiru exchanged a look and Haruka raised the back of her hand to her mouth and then look at it. The kind of movement one might do if you were checking to see if your lip was still bleeding or not. "Screaming? No. But there was a good bit of kicking." Setsunu said. Her tone was friendly, but everyone could see how her purple eyes seemed dimmer as they sat on her beautiful dark skinned face. Raijin spoke up. "We know it's been a frustrating last few months." Setsunu's twin daughter's shuttle had been ambushed by the Mishhu. Everyone aboard had been killed but their bodies weren't recovered. It was believed that they had been taken prisoner but there were no clues as to where they were. Setsunu and Thomas, the Wakaba's Captain, had been devastated and consumed with finding them. But as the months grew, hope had begun to diminish.

Setsunu sighed and when she smiled it seemed genuine. "I really appreciate your all's effort to cheer me up. And you are correct. Getting out will do me some good. Lets go ice-skating. I know Raijin is just dying to get out there and run laps around the rest of us." Everyone laughed and headed to the ice rink.

Ice Rink
Trowa watched in amazement as his daughter zipped around the ice like a pro. Had she really grown up that much in so short a time? Was he missing out on his daughter growing up? It was one of the things he had to sacrifice in order to served in the Star Army and make sure that she could grow up in peace. He looked down at his son skating between him and his wife. A huge smile on his face as he held his parent's hands and glided across the ice. He looked at his wife, Estrella, and the big starburst tattoo over her eye. Trowa knew that she would prefer to have her husband at home more often but she understood. She kept herself busy between the kids and running her restaurant. For now, she was just savoring having her family all together. Estrella smiled as she looked over at another couple who had skated up and were holding her daughters hands.

"Higher Aunty Sandi! Higher!" Little Elanor Aeon squealed. Sanda and her husband Caffran swung Elanor Aeon up into the air between them. Her delighted laughter seemed to echo across the ice rink. "That's enough for now. Go show your papa that spin you showed me." As the little girl sped away Caffran skated closer to his wife. He cut hard on the ice, spinning Sanda around and pining her against the wall. Sanda's smile was quickly covered as they kissed. "Why don't you two get a room?" Estrella teased her sister as she skated by. Sanda and Caffran just looked at each other, neither able to stop smiling as they kissed again.

Sanda couldn't believe that this time last year Caffran had suddenly said that they should go ahead and get married. Sanda had sent a message to the Empress during the Empress' make a wish. Less than a week later, Sanda had a beautiful, lightning blue wedding dress and was married.

Finally, Sanda pushed Caffran away from her. "I'm getting hungry. Lets get something to eat."

The couple turned in their skates and moved away from the rink. Both were dressed in their class A uniforms. Sanda had insisted on wearing wearing her finest. She had so few opportunities to wear all of her awards. Sanda's chest was literally covered in ribbons. She had had quite a busy career so far in her few short years in the Star Army. Service, Rescue, Explorations. But the ones she was most proud of was the combat awards, especially her Yui's Blood medallion and the Order of the Blazing Sun.

Caffran held her close as they made their way through the crowds. Sanda had her head resting on his shoulder but she suddenly stood upright as she caught sight of someone. "Hey Solo!" She called to Zaven and Sakuka. They were her crewmates but had been on leave the last month or so having a baby. "Oh what an adorable little boy!" Sanda exclaimed as she moved over and took the baby in her arms. She then made a teasing face as she looked from the baby to his father. "I'm so sorry Zaven. It looks like he takes after you."

Cheol

Cheol listened intently, his expression a mix of resolve and disdain as he absorbed Mikael’s recounting of the war's horrors and the ongoing threats. Finally, he spoke, his voice steady but understanding. "Your experiences with the Mishhuvurthyvar are fascinating. I think you can safely say well appreciate what the Star Army has done, especially those from Tsenlan that are currently serving and can see that threat face to face . On behalf of Tsenlan, I thank you for the aid you extended to the refugees. Your actions have not only saved lives but have also sown seeds of hope amidst the scars of war. I am eternally grateful."

Pausing, Cheol’s gaze hardened as he considered the broader implications of their shared struggles. "The situation on Osman that you described ~ it’s unsettlingly reminiscent of the Craethel’s sudden shift in tactics during their incursion into Noria. Just when you believe you understand the enemy, they evolve, forcing us into relentless vigilance. The United Norian Imperium is entrenched in war, a testament to the unpredictable and brutal nature of these conflicts."

He sighed, a momentary lapse revealing his weariness. "It’s in these times, amid the chaos and the carnage of war, that one truly learns to appreciate the tranquility of peace and the simple joys we too often take for granted."

Katsuko

Katsuko let out a soft chuckle as bits of the snowball splattered against her, the sudden chill coaxing a burst of laughter from her. Carefully, she brushed the melting snow from the fabric of her kimono jacket, turning her attention to her daughter, Itazura, who had unexpectedly landed in her lap. With a warm smile lighting up her face, she affectionately greeted her.

"Hello, sweetheart," Katsuko's voice resonated with both amusement and deep affection. She tenderly kissed Itazura on the forehead, her silver eyes filled with maternal love. Watching Itazura scamper off with a playful wave, Katsuko's laughter filled the air again, her gaze catching sight of Akatski in the distance ~ a mental note made for a playful retaliation later for the snowball ambush.

As Itazura disappeared into the crowd, Katsuko's gaze shifted and caught Mikael's respectful nod. She responded with a nod of her own, an expression of mutual respect crossed her features. Her look conveyed a deep appreciation for his time spent with her fleet. She then leaned her head on Akina's shoulder still awaiting her answer regarding what they were going to do next.

Sorin and Kaoru

Amid the lively hum of the Tokyo Brewing Company, where the clinking of glasses mingled with low conversations, Sorin and Kaoru settled into a cozy corner of the bar. Each held a beer, and as they sipped, their discussion naturally flowed toward their impending wedding.

"How do you think we could fit our wedding into your Star Army schedule?" Sorin asked, his eyes alight with the thrill of planning their shared future. "Perhaps we could schedule something around your leaves?"

Kaoru paused, the fizz from her beer tickling her nose as she mulled over the idea. With a smile, she replied, "I've been considering that. What about a small, intimate ceremony soon? We could follow it up with a larger celebration later."

"That's a perfect idea," Sorin responded, his expression brightening. "We'll make it special, no matter what."

Kaoru's features softened, a sign she was still thinking more personal thoughts. " I really need to fix things with my mom, She's so stubborn, not just about my career but about us, about everything really" she confessed, her voice a blend of resolve and apprehension. "I want her to be part of our special day. Maybe just spending time with her will improve things."

Sorin covered her hand with his and provided a reassuring touch. "That sounds like a good plan."

Kaoru nodded, the look on her face thankful for his support. "We can head over to her when we are done our drinks," she agreed, made content by Sorin's words.

As they sipped their beers, Sorin turned the conversation toward a more uplifting subject, his eyes sparkling with admiration. "You know, watching you on stage at the last show, I couldn't help but feel awe-struck," he confessed, his voice softening. "You're not just performing; you're captivating everyone in front of that stage. It's absolutely amazing to see. You also looked sexy up there, in that purple and black little outfit of yours."

Kaoru blushed under the glow of his praise, her cheeks turned red with warmth. "That means so much to me, especially coming from you," she said, her voice filled with affection. "Feeling your support, seeing your face in the crowd ~ it lifts me up, makes every moment on stage even better." Someday she hoped that her group would be her main career.

Sorin leaned over and wrapped his arms around her. . "I'm always amazed at how you shine; Kaoru the Tasia, Kaoru the star of Midnight Infinity." Kaoru squeezed his hand, her eyes meeting his as the red started to fade from her cheeks.

Maybe a cute N orian male or anyone else that caught her eye.

Akina

"Sweetheart!" Akina chirped at her daughter, her smile was quick as Itazura came and found her, the first one since she sat down where everyone could see her. Akina wondered if she got her affectionate side from her or not as she wrapped her closest arm back around the other woman. The jingle of her bell almost brought a twinkling to her eyes, and she even let out a little squeak of surprise when she sat right into her lap. The senator kept her daughter close, and shot back with a few kisses to the cheek and even one to the temple. "Happy Winter-Nights, honey." She shot back finally, patting her daughter's side with the hand around her. The other mostly just teased her by playing with the hem of her dress. The two redheads made for quite the happy sight! Every once in a while, Akina even hummed a bar of a song, or gave the playful Neko in her lap another hug against her for good measure. It was a good night, and she was less cold, earning a nice glow from her cheeks as she gave her wife a little look over at her hiding spot. With so many eyes on them on the stage, she hoped her wife was the only one clocking the antics she and Itazura were up to.

Miu

Is that you, Akatski-chan? Miu thought to her sister. It wasn't even that she caught her out against the spotlights and everything going on, rather one of the security drones had pinged her as another VIP and her location in the crowd, and she picked up her name from that list. Have the best time tonight! She was not sure if she was going to see her or not, but the most important part until the drawing, and closing ceremony in a week and a half, she was mostly off the hook compared to the time she worked the Zaibatsu display. With the lights back to making patterns on the stage in various winter themes, she shuffled off to one side and began to talk to the same stage-manager, asking her how everything went down to sate her curiosity. Screwing up was okay with her, if you could fix it. The glittery middle sister poured into her costume was easily the most laid-back of her twin-sisters. Maybe I can get her to do something with mom, like with her violin, or that electric one? Mmm this year or next.

I'll get them.
She thought, not even thinking about if she'd be helping the next Winter-Nights. Yule was so fun for her.

Akina

"I wish I had thought of that." Akina commented on the array of lights slowly cycling, probably a programmable set sewn into the bottom hem of Itazura's skirt. Well, it would not be her only night at the festival, if she ended up sleeping the night at the tower behind them, that is, the palace. What work she had on-world could be done from there if she really needed to. The reality was is that she was prepared to go wherever Katsuko went.

Winter-Night Lights Pavilion

Akina

I'm so glad you came! Akina thought to Kaoru. Miu wasn't the only one cheating to keep tabs on the crowds for people she knew. She found it pretty easy to get a visual on her other daughter, and aded, You two are looking cute and saucy. Their working relationship had at least for her, made it easier to read Kaoru's moods, both professionally and otherwise. It was nice to have her aboard the Mazu with her, but if she didn't want to be there, she would not actually stop her from retiring. Despite how much trouble she had reconciling with a military life, Akina could vouch firsthand for her quality as an officer.

The admiral also just liked having her around, to boot. That did not mean she wasn't aware she probably would not come to see her until when she was with Katsuko until they had worked things out.

All of her reverie ended as Itazura slipped from her lap so quickly under the attempted barrage of snowballs that she had to rearrange her own skirt before looking for the source of the incoming. "It hit the tip of my ear!" She laughed, leaning over to help brush snow off of Katsuko as she made her return to her side. She was very invested in making her wife happy that night. That wasn't too different from normal, but the blue-haired wonder that was her wife had a very affectionate wife, emotionally and physically. She still felt her cheeks flush harder, and her pulse quicken a touch in excitement as she held her hand, which she squeezed right away, no chill, and began to rub with her thumb.

Did she get hit in the knee with a snowball? Yes. Was the snow just melting and dripping down her leg? Also yes.

"Don't worry my love, just don't drop our daughter, and we'll be good. We have all the time this year." Akina leaned herself over to them both, kissed her wife sweetly on her lips, giving her a taste of her winterberry lipstick, and then pecked her daughter once more on the chin before she made her escape to get her revenge. "Yes, get whomever that was!" She definitely had an idea, based on the direction.

"We can go up the tower-, er palace, or just go walk around. If it gets too crowded we can always get a security detail for a small bubble of space." Akina did not mind talking with strangers, or people she knew for that matter, she just wanted her love to have less to worry about for the night. It was not as if they were not both getting strategic and tactical updates pushed to them through encrypted channels from Command, anyway.

"Did you get Akiko's message?"
One of their eldest, Miu's older sister, had sent her best from the Akina system, where the Tokyo and a chunk of the fleet were still stationed for the moment, giving succor to transdimensional refugees. She wondered how many videos she had made. Winter-Nights were important in her clan, but as long as she got at least a message from her children on New Year's, that was good enough for her. Anything more was going above and beyond as far as she saw things.

Miu

"Nice." Miu commented as she spied the sudden activity behind her, and laughing as the speakers made that the last thing she said. The crowd caught part of her easy laughter as it peeled from her at her family's antics. She looked to the manager with an, "Oops. It's not a security problem. We're just like that. Promise. Wait, people already know, huh?" She explained of her family, waving gently towards them as she fiddled with the top of her outfit, so she could settle into the top a bit more easily. This size was definitely the right call. Way more fun. I wonder if outfits should have a windchill factor on the tags for the season? She thought to herself absent-mindedly. Her mind was a very well-traveled thing going from seemingly unconnected topic to topic.

Akina

"That girl is going to get the ultimate snowjob, isn't she?" Akina asked Katsuko while hugging into her harder, like she might float into the sky. There was even some giggling as the mess of red hair filled her wife's vision from the embrace.

Yoshiro was getting up from the bench to tour the rest of the festival when he was hit with an errant snowball. He turned to see who did that as he was laughing, remembering his younger days after he decided that he was going to be a better child to his mother and father. "Who threw that?" He asked as he packed a snowball to throw back at whoever did this sneak attack on him but he had no anger in his voice because he was laughing, but he was going to join in a bit of fun with whoever started the snowball fight.

Itazura

After a few moments Itazura was certain that she had evaded any further surprise snowball attacks from Akatski, for now. Though she made a mental note to return to further antics with her mother later. This brief reprieve allowed her a few moments to mull over things as the array of lights cycled slowly near the hem of her dress' skirt. That was until someone at the table next to her started laughing. Itazura looked over to see that a man had started packing a snowball. Quickly she got off the bench, reached down to pack one of her own, hiding it behind her back. Itazura met his gaze as he looked around, thinking "What's one more snowball?" Then she spoke up, "Well that one wasn't me, but this one is!" she laughed a little as she playfully tossed the snowball at Yoshiro. It was nice to be joining in the fun with others.

Mikael

Mikael's eyebrow raised ever so slightly when the word Craethel was mentioned. He quickly did a mental search of his personal databases and found no matches to the word. He then set about using one of his personal virtual intelligences to start querying every Star Army and Yamataian database he had access to find something. But something about it made his curious side of his mind become very active, but he didn't want to look stupid in front of the senator.

"It is the duty of every member of the Star Army to assist those who are not enemies of the empire. Maybe even an enemy if it was beneficial to our cause... a big maybe." Mikael said in response. "The underestimation might have been due to something else, but that falls more into conjecture on my part than objective statement of reality. Osman was completely forgotten about until the FDC and the Interstellar Patrol reported it as such. Though perhaps we should enjoy the peace we have before returning to the war at hand, I have been away from the front lines for too long. Though who are these Craethel you speak of?"

Akatski grinned with devilish glee as her first two snowballs struck their intended targets with precision. She stifled a laugh as she wached Akina, and Itazura’s reaction. Her moment of triumph was short-lived, though, as her keen eyes spotted her other mother, Katsuko, arriving and settling beside Akina. Her grin grew wider—how could she resist adding Katsuko to her list of victims?

With practiced precision, Akatski quickly scooped up more snow and formed three new snowballs. The first was launched with pinpoint accuracy, catching Akina in the ear again. Before anyone could react, she sent the second one flying toward Katsuko, hitting her squarely on the shoulder. And the third? A particularly well-aimed throw landed perfectly in the folds of Itazura’s dress. The chaos that ensued was everything Akatski had hoped for.

Before she could relish her victory too long, she felt a familiar telepathic nudge from her eldest sister, Miu. Akatski’s grin softened into an affectionate smile as Miu’s voice filled her mind.

“You look adorable in that outfit, sis,” Akatski replied telepathically, her tone brimming with sincerity despite her playful mood. “And the lights and stuff? Absolutely stunning. Hey, are you off the hook for a bit? I want to include you in this fun, oh, and we need to take a picture together!”

before Akatski could hear Miu’s response, her name rang out from across the snowy field. She turned toward the sound of Itazura’s voice, only to be met with a face full of snow. The cold, wet impact startled her for a moment, but then her mischievous grin returned, wider than ever.

“Ooh, good throw!” she sent telepathically to Itazura, laughing as she wiped the snow from her face. But Akatski wasn’t one to let such a challenge go unanswered. She darted after her sister, scooping up snow as she ran and forming a quick snowball in her gloved hands. She spun on her heel and launched it with practiced ease.

Her aim, however, faltered slightly in her haste. Instead of hitting Itazura, the snowball struck a tall man nearby, squarely in the chest. Akatski froze for a moment, her golden eyes wide as she gauged his reaction. She gave him a sheepish grin and a small wave as Itazura also tossed one at him, which pleased her. “hey sis” Akatski said appearing upside down and give her a quick kiss on the cheek “burgers on me” she said before moving back to toss another at her sister and Yoshiro the man she’d hit.
