Uniform Updates for the Star Army of Yamatai

Sweater top for the exercise uniform? This would be worn with blue sweatpants that match the bottom part of the zipper hoodie.

I'm really excited I poked in here to see that new uniform. Mitsuko has missed her Type 30B ever since she lost it and had to upgrade. I think she'll be ordering one of those with the full-length skirt ASAP. My friend wanted to do a new picture of her, too, and this sounds like a great opportunity.

Here's new art of Natsumi in the Type 30C (Sweater) Duty Uniform:

Wow, that new art looks great! And the milsurp store is a good idea too; people would love to get the old guns I think.

On a side note, I recalled you mentioned wanting to do something like a plugsuit in the future?

Yeah. I'm looking to make a new version of the bodysuit that's also a sort of space skinsuit and has a more obviously sci-fi look to it. Something you can look at and immediately know "this is a space opera setting" and can become iconic like the ones in Space Battleship Yamato, Evangelion, and so on.

I think the top half of the Type 22 is a good place to start, that's kinda the iconic 'shape' I think of when I picture SA stuff. It kinda shows up in a lot of the other uniforms, too.

If you decide to pursue a new bodysuit Wes, I suggest making sure it's got a pretty solid role to play.

I'm thinking that having the bodysuit provide light environmental protection and a few minutes of air would be a good idea. While the AMES would be used for heavier EVA work, this would basically serve to keep a person alive for a bit in an emergency and be comfy any other time. For this reason, I think the Engineering Protective Jumpsuit is something to keep in mind as well I think. Though it didn't straight out look SAoY, it was still pleasing to the eye, was a good concept and had a solid role I think. Going on with this idea, you may even want to adopt a helmet design similar to the one used by Dio in "The Last Exile". It's hard to find an image, but it's basically a thin, transparent membrane that engulfs the head out of nowhere. I suggest this since it's aesthetically pleasing/looks nice while stowed away.

No bulk, no muss, no fuss.

The Jumpsuit was definitely the second thing I pictured for a new bodysuit thing. What about a Guardians of the Galaxy (or Monster Force, for something more obscure) mask/helmet that pops out of a smaller device? Like unfolds from a high collar/neck support behind the head, or something worn under the ear/around the jaw, or a visor or headband?

I'm a big fan of that idea, and have thought about making one, but it almost seemed too obvious of reference. Might be a good idea as a tie in to the new jumpsuit idea, though, as the helmet counterpart to the short term survival ability of the new bodysuit.

@paladinrpg - It's steampunk/dieselpunk done right. I hated the second season though. In that one, the MC was childishly naive and all that, but still got her way many times over. Meanwhile, all of that was beaten out of the first season's with a lead cored stick at every turn as 'reality ensued'. I just hate the fact that little girls in air-scooters survived flak bursting next to them, amongst many, many other things. Now that I'm done with that rant...

For an engineer on a ship that's being hammered, and assuming this idea is used, this would be life saving if she suddenly got sucked out into space like in those crew members in the opening fight against Nero in Star Trek. Even though a Neko can hold her breath in space for how long, it's not going to help her if she's knocked out cold, or is jostled into letting it out in one way or another. A fold-away helmet like the one in Guardians of the Galaxy, or even the ones in Dead Space used by Issac are great, but don't go well with Yamatai. Remember, "Tight is Right!" It's gotta look advanced, space age, and sexy all on top of being functional.

That's why I think a transparent membrane of some sort should pop out of the minimal collar of the bodysuit and engulf the head like a soap bubble. There's also the added benefit of being able to clearly see the person's face too.

I'm thinking about making a page for one or more models of boots issued by the Star Army of Yamatai, since the area is not very standardized at the moment, leaving artists unsure what they're supposed to look like. I was wondering if anyone had some examples they could suggest for a standard type of boot to be used with the Duty Uniform (Type 35 Class B Everyday and Type 30C "Sweater" types).

Also, I'm been increasingly considering some changes to the working uniform, mainly changing the colors to something more camouflage, such as olive drab, dark gray, army green, or khaki. Also the top would be changed to something like a combat shirt and we'd make available a ballistic vest with pouches on it. Basically enabling it to be used as a field uniform similar to the old one. Your feedback on this is appreciated.

Also, for the future skinsuits, please upload example images of what you have in mind. I'm starting to scope out artists to help design it.

The Star Army is never going to use stiletto heels or very high heels so forget about it. This is the military. Our attire needs to have a look that's professional, functional, and aesthetically pleasing at the same time.

on the topic of combat shirts I have something here that may look the part for our setting. Something to take inspiration from of course, I don't own it or anything.
